At 5:30 pm the charter boated a 60lb yellowfin, the first this year in the daytime, on 60 lb fleuro leader. We thought we were destined for great things with such an early start but it was not to be. By midnight the water temp dropped three degrees to 70 and after we moved twice we finally managed to chunk two longfins before sunrise. The charter opted to again fish for mahi rather than troll and we boated a dozen mahi before heading for home with the 3 tuna and mahi on ice.

Trolling on the east wall produced a good bite of longfin and an occasional yellowfin but unfortunately the Dave Miguel charter from Lipinski Landscaping dropped more fish then they hooked on the troll going 3 for 7. However, they redeemed themselves at night picking 11 tuna including a longfin, a couple bluefin and the rest yellowfin. They also added a 100 pound mako and 90 pound sword for the evening and were on their way home at 7am with 14 tuna the mako and sword to their credit.

Information : 9/15 Inshore Tuna Trolling Had the Dean & DeLuca Brokerage Group from NY City out headed by Mike Shane Ocean a little choppy out of the ENE so we took a slow ride out towards Little Italy. Got about 8 miles off & the water was so pretty (75.2 degrees) we decieded to start trolling out. No sooner did we get 3 of 7 lines in we had a Bonito & a False Albie on. Released the Albie, got the Bobe in and put out the lines. Went about 50 ft. and loaded up 4 lines, same species plus one Skippy. To "cut to the chase" by 10 AM we had caught & released about 40 of these keepin only the Bonito's. We then started trolling to the Italy and up to Monster Ledge. Spent about 1 hr there and decieded to troll back to where we had all the action. By the way when we left for futher off the water changed to green and then blue near the Ledge with the temp going down to 71.3!. So back at the original bite we hooked up soon as we hit the "save" mark again. Almost time to head in so I started trolling towards the Barn. While about 1/4 miles inshore of Manasquan Ridge the poet flat line went of on the TLD 30. Fifteen minutes into the fight mate Darren gaffed a 44.90 lb. Wahoo! Oh the weight--well stopped at Hoffmans and Artie weighed it up on his digital scale. Needless to say the group had a fantastic trip and one hell of a surprise.Tell me how many Wahoo were ever caught and boated that close to Manasquan Inlet?

Information : We set out to fluke the river due to the warnings of 6-7 foot seas, but we stuck our noses out to check and found the ocean to be flat, so we took off for the sea girt reef. On one drift we hooked up 2 sea bass at once, so we short drifted the spot and for a couple of hours and pulled in sea bass, and triggerfish non stop. Also one keeper fluke and only one skate. When the cooler was full and we were out of bait we called it quits. The triggerfish put on quite a show, with several of them following each hooked fish to the surface. Rob and Tyler Harris of Wayne, and Dave Newman of Marlboro will eat well this week, and so I imagine will a lot of their friends and neighbors. I really felt like I knew what I was doing, for a change. A great day and a privlage to be on the water.

In addition we boated a few mahi. We sat at the dock from Sept. 5-9 due to the bad weather and should have stayed on land one more day as the Bob Mieskiewicz charter on Sept. 10-11 did not have a bite in the Hudson. Bait or Lure: Sprdr Bars/lures
Water Depth: 500 fathoms
Water Temp.: 74
Information : Capt Bernie Roth hosted the Rob Swartenberg charter from New City, NY for their second overnighter. On the first charter they wrestled with four bigeyes boating two to 140 lbs and were convinced it was a trip of a lifetime never to be repeated. They were wrong. At 4:30 pm on Thursday four more bigeyes crashed the spreader bars and lures and the three man charter and mate had their hands full. The first 135 lb tuna was boated in 20 minutes. One fish broke the line and another pulled the hook. The fourth fish would not come up despite three rounds of four fisherman on the give and take. After an hour plus a 190 lb bigeye was gaffed and in the boat. Trolling till dark produced a 70 lb yellowfin, two longfin and a mahi. Chunking produced a small swordfish which was released. Information : Been fishing the Channels the past few weeks. When conditions are good fishing is good. Had a few banner days in the past 2 weeks, then we also had some pretty slow days. Today the wind with the current had us flying on the first drift...2.4 knots. Had to leave the area for a few hours Went out to the East a bit, caught a few fish with some Sea bass, certainly nothing to brag about. Came back to the channels at the end of the tide, picked away at some decent size fish, high hooks had 3 fish each. Not great, but with the conditions we had all day it was good enough. Capt. Ron

Information : Capts. Phil Dulanie, and Justin Nighan amd Mike Zajac decided to give the Hudson Canyon another shot on Wednesday with the Jeff Hardimon charter from Philadelphia, PA. Arriving at the west wall the water was ugly so they picked up and headed off to the deep. Just before the 100-Square they put a longfin in the boat on the troll and another just before dark. Putting the boat on the drift for the chunk in 1000-1300 feet of water seemed to be the trick that night as they picked yellowfin all night long ending the evening going 9 for 12 on yellowfin with all but one small between 50-70 pounds. They also missed 2 makos that swam right up to the boat and lost a big fish after an hour battle. They headed home at first light. Most of the yellowfin took live squid.
