Fishing Reports
07/19/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Mary Lou Crew had a half day fluke trip with a bunch of young kids. We made
one drop and had three keepers and two seabass on two drifts and had to come in!!!
Sick crew members ended what was looking to be a good day!!!
07/11/09
Capt. Darren reports:
The Mary Lou Crew was out for one more shot at the sharks. Fishing in the
JCSA High Rollers Shark Tournament with a nice forecast and beautiful weather we
headed offshore. We made a quick stop at one spot but after sitting and drifting for
about a half hour I decided it did not look right. We moved further east and found
beautiful blue water with a ton of life so this is where we landed for the day!
After 3 hours with out a touch on any lines, the wind picked up a little and the
long line went off. The fish dumped 200 yards before I set up on it and had it
hooked up! We new this was the right one!!! After two more real good runs the fish
came to the boat like a puppy and 15 minutes later had a 198 pound mako in the boat
and headed for the scale. The fish ended up taking the largest mako prize and a
great end to our 2009 shark tournament season!!!
06/28/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Mary Lou Crew was back out for day two of Mako Mania and day three of Jersey
Coast. Again going back to the same area of the last two days due to really good
looking signs we had the lines in by 8am. At 9:30 we have our first hit and after a
short time a 100 pound mako next to the boat. We all decided to cut him free to
grow. The rest of the day we had several blue sharks except for one run on are long
rod with a whole blue fish. This with thought was the one!!! After taking more then
half the line on the 50vsw and a short fight, we bring him up and see its a dusky
shark!!! We gave it a good go and had more fun the ever but did not get the right
one for the scales!!! It hurt knowing that our first fish on Friday would have put
us on the board and into some money!!!
06/27/09
Capt. Darren reports:
The crew of the Mary Lou was out for day one of Mako Mania and day two of
Jersey Coast for another shot! We went right back to the same area where we had the
fish the day before. With no drift in flat seas it was not the greatest conditions
for Makos. At around 9:15am the close rod next to the boat gets hit and right next
to the boat a nice size Thresher eats the bait and the fight is on!!! After 50
minutes we have the fish hanging next to the boat! The rest of the day we only had
blue sharks and no Makos!! Back at the scale the fish was weighed at Hoffmans Marina
and we had 250 pound fish and a lot of shark steaks!!!
06/26/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Mary Lou Crew was out with the boys from the Saw Mill Gun Club for a shot at
the Jersey Coast Shark Tournament. With a nice forecast and ocean conditions we made
a 56 mile run to great looking shark water. We set up and the waiting began and boy
did this group stick it out. With not a bite all day it finally happened at 2:45pm!!
It was are first Mako! It turned out to be a small one around 80lbs that was cut
free. A few minutes later the rod goes off but the fish neverr takes the bait, we
reel it up and another Mako at around 150lbs follows our bait right to the boat.
After trying to get him to eat he finally takes a big bite of our bait next to the
boat but never gets the hook! We set the lines again and 5 minutes later he takes
the fillet!!! This time we have a solid hook in him and have him within 20 feet of
the boat and the fish rolls up the leader makes a run and breaks us off!!! Not
thinking this would be a fish for the winner board we get the lines back out and
have another big shark eat again this time thinking its the one it turns out to be a
275lb blue shark. Great end to the day! The hard part was finding out on the last
day that the fish we broke off would have put us on the board and we would have one
some money!!!!
06/13/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Mary Lou Crew was out for the Brett T. Bailey mako tournament. After running
and looking for some warm water, we settled in at our spot for the day. We sure did
catch sharks however the were not the kind we were after!! The blue sharks were
thick, so bad that we had to pull the lines out of the water and switch to sight
fishing. We could not get a bait in the water without having one on. At the end of
the day we lost count, and headed for home in nice sea conditions. Once again great
job done by Art Dellasalla on running a top notch tournament!!!
06/12/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Had George Gibson and crew out again for another shot at some stripe bass. We
started out on the troll but did not get a touch. We switched over to some live
bunker after a call from another boat. We hooked up on 6 big fish during the bite,
but the charter only managed to land 2 fish. Once the bite died we switched back to
trolling but the fished stopped biting. A decent half day trip considering all the
dropped fish!
06/11/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Mary Lou Crew was out for a day of sharking with just two onboard. Made our
way out in thick fog and set up. Had our first bite in about an hour after setting
up and continued through the day. At the end of the day no mako or thresher but had
6 blue sharks. Fog stayed with us all day but nice sharking weather. Water was still
a little cold but fishable.
06/4/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Had the boys from Cedar Grove Police Department out today for a full day
Striper trip. Weather in the morning was not that great and it took a little looking
around to find the bait. Finally got into some real nice size fish. Unfortunately
today we had 15 bites but could only keep 5 fish on the hook. The biggest fish was
33 pounds and another at 30. Of course the biggest fish of the day we dropped near
the boat.
05/31/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Back out for our 4th trip in a row with Gene Brennan from Brennans tree
service in Union. With 4 guys we got out nice and early and this proved to be the
ticket. Pulled the throttles back and dropped the spoons in the water and had our
first striper in the boat in 10 minutes. This bite lasted two hours and by 7:30 we
had the 4 man limit and on bonus fish for good measure!!! Today we did not see as
many blue fish with only a handful coming to the boat.
05/30/09
Capt. Darren reports:
The Mary Lou Crew had the Michael Gates group on board again this season and
running down to where we left the fish biting the night before we thought was going
to be the ticket. However getting there and dropping them in produced no hits!!
After a little bouncing around we finally found them. By the end of the trip we had
10 fat fish in the box along with 30 blue fish!!! Great bunch of guys and another
fine trip for this group!
05/29/09
Capt. Darren reports:
We were out for a half day morning trip with the boys from Pats Tavern
"Dave Foss Charter". The weather in the morning was horrible with driving
rain and strong winds. The group toughed it out and after making one move we dropped
the hook and clammed a cooler full of decent size fish. We caught over 30 shorts and
no blue fish! The rain left and the weather eased up for the second half of the day
and a nice ride home.
Back out for an afternoon trip with Steve Ehripz charter from Allentown PA.
We went right back to where we had them in the morning but with the tide changing
and the wind blowing the opposite direction we were no able to get them to eat. We
decided to break out the trolling gear and it turned out to be a great move. The 6
man charter put 2 fish shy of there limit in the boat on all nice size fish. The
biggest fish went 30 pounds on the button. Left the fish biting and had a beautiful
ride back to the dock!
05/25/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Mary Lou Crew back out for our third day with John Lang and friends. We went
right back to where we had them the night before and the fish we there waiting.
First fish of the day started the trip out right going 34 pounds! By the end of the
day the coolers were full and the boys were worn out from reeling!! What a great way
to end the weekend!!!
05/24/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Captain Darren and first mate Phil Mancini took the boat out for a little
magic hours fishing for ourselves. With the thunderstorms not arriving for a little
time we decided to make a run and see if we could get in on the hot striper bite.
Well it never fails we crushed the fish. Non stop action from the time the spoon hit
the water, we could not get two in at a time. We then switched over and jigged the
fish. All the fish we in the mid 20's with an occasional 30 mixed in. Made a run for
the barn and made before the thunderstorms!!
05/23/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Had George Gibson and his crew from Sussex County NJ out for a day of Striper
fishing. Well George did it again!!!! We fished one location and never had to leave
and by 1pm the cooler was full with the 6 man limit. The largest fish was 32 pounds
with three others in the mid 20's! Great trip again for George!!!
05/21/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Had the boat out for a half day troll trip with two guys! Had the spoons in
for 5 minutes and had our first fish on. The bite only lasted for about two hours
and we had our two man limit with one fish going 32 pounds! Beautiful day on the
water but still had to fight through the yellow eyed demons.
05/17/09
Capt. Darren reports:
We were back out again this time with the Mike Gates group. We started very
close to where we were yesterday, but today we got them going good! We filled the
cooler up with real nice fish and had a few blues to add to the catch. The weather
was bad!!! The wind blew hard out of the North West and it was rock and roll on the
anchor!! We called it a day by 10am as we had all the fish the charter wanted!!!
Still have Sunday May 24th available due to a last minute cancel. Give me a call the
fishing is getting bettter and better with the big ones moving in!!!
05/16/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Mary Lou Crew was out with a 6 person charter on Saturday in thick thick
fog!!! Made on drop and had some fish nothing to get crazy over. We made a move and
had some more fish but never really had them going. We did manage to put some fish
in the box enough for everyone. When the tide changed we went on the move but no
luck. As soon as we hit the dock the sun came out and it was beautiful!!!
05/12/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Mary Lou Crew was out for a half day Striper troll. We had a few nice sized
fish, but covered up in bluefish. The Bass are here so get in on the action. We will
be running an open boat trip on May 24th anyone interested give us a call at
973-809-9736.
05/4/09
Capt. Darren reports:

day troll/bait fish, anyone who is interested in getting in on hot Stripe Bass
fishing call me or email me for details!! 973-809-9736 or dsv174@verizon.net
05/3/09
Capt. Darren reports:
The Mary Lou Crew was out with Tom and his son Robert Cannon for a half day
trip of stripers! We started the day off catching the last hour or so of the
outgoing tide, and we had the fish going for a while. More shorts then keepers but
did put 4 nice ones in the box. Left when the tide slacked and went on the troll and
put one more 35 inch fish in the box. This gave us our two man limit plus one bonus
fish. Great trip with Tom and Robert!
04/20/09
Capt. Darren reports:
The Mary Lou Crew will be back in the water the last week of April and will
once again be back sailing from Sandy Hook Bay Marina in the Highlands. If you want
to get in on the best Striper fishing give us a call! The month of May is almost all
booked up with only a few dates open, don't wait now is the time to book!!! Thanks
Capt. Darren
10/5/08
Capt. Darren reports:
The Mary Lou Crew started out it's fall stripe bass fishing not to bad. With
one trip up to the rocks and a little help from the boat Sidewinder, it didn't take
long to have the first bass on. We ended the day keeping the three largest fish and
releasing the rest. Also had plenty of blue fish action to add for some fun.
9/2/08
Capt. Darren reports:
Mary Lou Crew was out for a half day of fluke fishing. Our first stop
produced all our bites and keepers. We made a few moves but nothing at the other
spots and ended up going back to where we first started in the morning. Like
everyone else to many shorts and only a few keepers. We also had a few Seabass and
one large Squid! We are now booking our fall striper trips so give us a call at
973-809-9736
8/24/08
Capt. Darren reports:
Had Tom Cannon and his son Robert and friend Gram out for a banner day of
blue fishing. It took a little to get them going, but once we did it was non stop
action for the boys. The highlight of the day was when Robert decided to bring his
SHARK rod! So top mate Phil rigged it all up for him and we dropped a whole blue
fish fillet down next to the boat. Well you guessed it, the rod goes off and the
battle is on! After dropping the anchor line on the ball and getting towed around
between all the blue fish boats, we could not bring the fish up from the deep.
However Capt. Tom on the Fintastic who was fishing about a 100 yards behind us got a
look at the fish come when it came up to the surface and told me on the radio it was
a real big Thresher Shark. We fought it for a little then the line parted. It was
everything Robert was hoping for!!
8/14/08
Capt. Darren reports:
Back out for another shot at some fluke today with the guys from the Beaver
Creek Farm. Today we switched it up and ran south and had some nice keepers, but
with a lack of a drift for the main part of the day it made fishing tuff. Ended the
day with a 5lb and 4lb fish along with a decent amount of 18 and 19 inch fish. The
big problem of the day was trying to keep the skates of the baits.
8/13/08
Capt. Darren reports:
Had the group from Eugene Brennen Tree Services out for a day of bottom
fishing. After moves all over the ocean we mangaged to put a decent catch together
of fluke and seabass. Not enough keeper fluke today but we made up for it with
seabass.
8/10/08
Capt. Darren reports:
Was back out today with Tom Cannon and his son Robert and friends. When went
right back to all the same spots where we had the fish the day before, but boy did
conditions change. We even had trouble finding shorts! The thunderstorms moved in
and we called it a half day. Not a very good day, but thats fishing.
8/09/08
Capt. Darren reports:
Had our number one client George Gibson and his daughter Emily out again, but
this time it was for the flatties. As usual when George and Emily go out with us it
seems to be an automatic. We ended the day with a dozen keepers with one 5lbs and
the other 6lbs. They also added a couple of 3s for good measure. We had our fair
share of shorts as well.
8/05/08
Capt. Darren reports:
Mary Lou was out for another day of fluke fishing. We only had a short run to
find the fish. Today there was no problem catching fluke, the problem was getting
keepers. We had every bit of 50 fish but only a handful of keepers. It was a great
day for the kids on the boat with flat seas and plenty of action.
7/26/08
Capt. Darren reports:
Had the Mary Lou Crew out for the Pt. Pleasant fluke tournament. Fished up to
the North on the hard bottom, but we did not have any fish to put on the scale.
Caught a lot of shorts and a handful of keepers. We also added a bunch of nice
Seabass and Ling.
7/21/08
Capt. Darren reports:
Mary Lou Crew was out for a half day trip for some fluke. We did not have to
travel far to find them however there was just to many short. We had over 40 fish,
but only a handful of keepers. The largest fish was just a little under 5 pounds.
Flat day on the water with a little ground swell.
7/13/08
Capt. Darren reports:
The Mary Lou Crew was back out again today for another bottom fishing trip.
We started where we left off yesterday. However the South wind and the swell shut
the fishing down. We made several moves and only put a few fish in the box along
with a nice 30 pound Striper.
7/12/08
Capt. Darren reports:
Mary Lou Crew was out for a half day Sea Bass trip. We stopped on a couple of
pieces and put a decent catch of fish together. We also added a few nice fluke.
6/14/08
Capt. Darren reports:
The Crew of the Mary Lou was out for the Brett Bailey mako rodeo. With great
conditions we set up and had two blue sharks early. At around 10:30 the middle rod
went off and the game was on. Half hour battle and we landed a 217 pound mako.
Decided to head in early. The fish was not the largest, as this year the tournament
had a 402 pound and 301 pounder hit the scales. Congrats to the winner and thanks to
Art Dellasalla for running such a top notch tournament for a great cause!!! We will
be back out this weekend for the other two shark tournaments.
6/10/08
Capt. Darren reports:
Had our first shark trip of the season with a group from Lancaster PA. We
stopped at the Star first thing in the morning and had nothing going. I did not like
the water so we made a 6 mile move further SE. The water was a little warmer and
cleaner. Finally had the lines go. First shark was about 100lb blue. Hour later we
had our second shark on this one was bigger around 200lb blue. Not bad for the first
trip, the best part was no Dogfish at all. Will be out this weekend for the Brett
Bailey.
6/01/08
Capt. Darren reports:
Had the crew from Pats Tavern on today for a half day trip. We finally
settled in on a spot in the bay and had only two stripers and all the blue fish you
wanted. The largest Bass was 23lbs and the other went 16lbs. It has been a tuff go
for the bass the last few weeks. I hope the fishing turns on.
5/31/08
Capt. Darren reports:
Was out today with Seth Goudie and friends charter for this years allusive
Striper. Had a lot of birds in the morning and Bass mixed in, the only trick was
trying to get threw the blue fish. We had a ton of blues and 3 stripers. The fish
all were caught on plugs on the service. Came in a little early due to the storms in
the area.
5/27/08
Capt. Darren reports:
Was back out for another try at the Stripers, but again the fishing just
plain stinks up North right now. We fished everywhere from the bay to the rocks.
Only found blue fish. Had one shot at fish near the rocks but they would not eat
AGAIN. Have had enough for a few days, things need to change.
5/25/08
Capt. Darren reports:
Had Tom Conney charter on board but what a change from the day before. Today
we went right back to where we killed the day before, but could only get one to 18
pounder to bite. We could see them on the bottom but we could not get through the
blue fish. They were so thick we had one on before we could get the lines all out.
5/24/08
Capt. Darren reports:
Had the George Gibson group out for the best day of the season on the
stripers. There crew caught one shy of there limit and dropped twice as many. All
fish were between 15 and 25lbs. Great day!
5/23/08
Capt. Darren reports:
Today Capt. Darren took the day to fish with his father Jeff and 7 year old
son Tyler. Well conditions were not that great for the crew on board and we made a
quick drop on one spot and caught a nice 20lb Striper and then the little guy on
board had enough of the rock and rolling and we called it a day after only 45
minutes of fishing.
5/22/08
Capt. Darren reports:
Had a group of guys from Cedar Grove P.D. onboard for another shot at
Stripers. Today we caught a few nice fish on the troll. We also had some blue fish
mixed in. The largest fish of the day was 20lbs. Not bad considering the way bass
fishing has been.
5/21/08
Capt. Darren reports:
Had the boys from Eastern Concrete out again, but this trip was not one of
there better ones. We had blues blues and more blues but no Striper. Not sure where
they are hiding but we have to keep going till we get it right.
5/18/08
Capt. Darren reports:
Back out for the last day of three in a row with A&C Kitchen and Bath. Today
was worse then the day before. We tried several drops but the fish would not eat.
Made one last move and went on the troll and found the fish but only managed to get
one big one to bite. The fish went 22lbs and kind of eased the pain. Had three days
of fishing with really good guys. Thanks to Nick on the Benchmark for setting this
up.
5/17/08
Capt. Darren reports:
The Mary Lou was out with the group from A&C Kitchen and Baths for a second
day of Striped Bass fishing. Today was not are day as we fished the same area as the
day before but never could get the fish going. Other boats around had some fish and
were fishing right next to us. Back out again in the morning with another group from
A&C. We ended the day with only 3 keepers and a few blues.
5/16/08
Capt. Darren reports:
The Mary Lou was out with the group from A&C Kitchen and Baths for some
Striped Bass fishing. Made one drop of the hook and picked away for the 6 hour trip.
At the end we had 7 keepers and released a few shorts. Had a few blue fish but
nothing out of control.
5/14/08
Capt. Darren reports:
The Mary Lou Crew now has an opening on Friday May 23rd. The stripe bass
fishing is getting better every day, so give us a call to take advantage of this
open date during prime striper fishing 973-809-9736 or www.maryloucrew.com
5/08/08
Capt. Darren reports:
The Mary Lou Crew just had a Saturday May 24th become available. It will not
last and anyone interested reach out for us. 973-809-9736 or www.maryloucrew.com
5/04/08
Capt. Darren reports:
Had Mike Gates from Rockaway NJ back out with his boss Mitch, his regular and
friends. This trip the weather man cooperated and despite morning thick fog the
group had a great day of Striper fishing. They had there limit and added three bonus
fish and a few bluefish. They also released several shorts and we lost another four
nice stripers! Great weather and a great bunch of guys.
5/03/08
Capt. Darren reports:
We were back out again this time with only three onboard. The weather was
nasty with an East wind around 20 knots. The Jeff charter from PA stuck it our and
ended with 4 keepers, which turned out to be a real good catch from the talk around
the dock and on the radio. They also had several bluefish to add to the cooler.
5/02/08
Capt. Darren reports:
Had our first trip of the year with Mike Gates and party from Rockaway, NJ.
The day started out slow with only two fish in the box. But during the change of
tide and a short move we managed to put a nice catch together in less then ideal
conditions. At the end of the day we had nine stripers in the box and a number of
bluefish.
The Mary Lou Crew is back in the water. We will be docked at Sandy Hook Bay
Marina for the month of May and then moving to Hoffmans Marina in Brielle from June
to November. Give us a call to get in on the hot striper fishing this season at
973-809-9736 or visit the website at www.maryloucrew.com
Thanks Captain Darren
8/19/07
Capt. Darren reports:
Lou Forenzi and freinds were aboard the Megan Beth for a Bluefish/Fluke
combo. Fishing the Mud Bouy was a slow pick on blues as they were hitting short and
not consistant. By 11:30 we filled a cooler of Blues and went Fluke fishing.
Stopping at two spots we caught 14 nice keepers to 4.5 lbs and a dozen throw
backs.Great day on the water till we headed home and the rain came very heavy.
8/14/07
Capt. Darren reports:
Mike Larkin and crew from AT&T were aboard the Megan Beth for a day of
bluefishing. Fishing at the Mud Bouy was a slow pick as the bluefish were leader
shy,we had a fish with monoleaders. Cacthing enough bluefish we stopped at some
rocky bottom on the way home, and caught 10 keeper fluke up to 4lbs and a dozen
throw backs. It was a great day on the water.
8/13/07
Capt. Darren reports:
Had the Mary Lou Crew out for the best fluke trip of the year! With 3 guys
fishing we ended the day with 21 keepers and the smallest fish was 2 1/2 pounds,
with the largest going 7 pounds. We had several fish in the 4 to 5 pound range.
Great conditons and a beautiful day on the water!!! We still have dates available
for some great fluke fishing in August 973-809-9736 or www.maryloucrew.com
8/08/07
Capt. Darren reports:
Had the Mary Lou Crew back out for a day of what started out as Bluefishing,
we started at the Farms but there was no bite. We decided to switch over to some
fluking back up in the Channels. Had a few shorts and a couple keepers before the
drift picked up. We made a move to the Sandy Hook Channel and on the way came across
a large school of nice blues and proceeded to catch all the blues the charter
wanted.
8/07/07
Capt. Darren reports:
Ralph Betcher and friends were aboard the Megan Beth for a day of Fluke
fishing.Stopping at the reef at first it was a slow drift and slow pick. By 10:30 we
got a little breeze and we picked 14 nice keepers and just as many shorts as well as
a few Sea Bass. A couple of the family members were not feeling well and we were
back at the dock by noon.
8/05/07
Capt. Darren reports:
The Megan Beth was back up to the Mud Bouy with John Mackston and crew
aboard. Heading up to the North in a stiff NE wind in the morning by afternoon the
seas layed down. Fishing was steady but no blitz,as the jigs outfished the baits
today. By days end plenty of bluefish were caught and most released.
8/04/07
Capt. Darren reports:
Had the Cole Printing boys and their kids onboard today. We started out in
the Sandy Hook Channel, but after two drifts and no fish we decided to make a move
to the Ambrose. It turned out to be a good choice. Although the fishing started out
slow while we waited for the right drift, once it started the bite turned on. We
ended the day with 9 nice keepers and another handful of shorts. The largest fish
was 5lbs. But the highlight of the trip was when one of the anglers hooked into
something BIG which at first I thought was a striper as the line raced to the
surface. But to mine and everyone onboard surprise a 85 to 100 pound thresher went
sky rocketing into the air!! After a 15 minute battle and backing down on the fish
to get line back and several more air shows the light fluke hook straightend just
before landing him and off into the deep of the Ambrose. WHAT A SHOW FOR EVERYONE!!!
7/31/07
Capt. Darren reports:
Had the Mary Lou Crew Back out again for some more Fluke action. Started off
between the channel for the last of the incoming tide. With live snappers and fresh
bait we had none stop action. Not as many keepers today, but we made up for in
action. Had several fish in the 3 pond range. For a half day trip with young
children it was a nice day.
7/28/07
Capt. Darren reports:
Back out today to fish the Middletown Elks Fluke t-ment. We had pretty decent
fishing in the morning, but the afternoon was just horriable. We ended the day with
a 7 pounder another at 4 pounds and a few in the 3 to 3 1/2 pound range. At the
fillet table we ended with a dozen keepers and several bags of nice fillets. No fish
big enough to put us on the board for the t-ment.
7/22/07
Capt. Darren reports:
Back out for another shot at the flat ones. Today was much better then
yesterday, but still had to work real hard for the fish. The charter finished out
the day with 12 keepers and a nice couple bags of fillets. Conditions still were not
ideal with wind blowing hard in the morning. Till next trip. Have some open dates
for the best month of Fluke fishing so give us a call 973-809-9736.
7/21/07
Capt. Darren reports:
The Mary Lou Crew was out for another day of fluke fishing. But today the
fluke got the best of us. We fished everywhere and I mean everywhere, but could not
get the fish going. Picked a few fish at each spot but nothing to right home about.
We finished the day we a few keepers and six seabass. Not a good day with wind
against the tide all day. Back out again in the morning hopefully things will
change.
7/07/07
Capt. Darren reports:
Spent another day on the Mary Lou Crew catching the flat ones. Started off
down the beach, but due to a lack of wind there was no drift. Caught a few fish and
decided to make a move back up North. It turned out to be a good choice. We ended
the day with a dozen keepers and also added another dozen of nice Seabass. Had a lot
of fish in the 16 to 16 3/4 inch bracket that had to go back in.
7/03/07
Capt. Darren reports:
Had the Mary Lou Crew out for some hot fluke action. We fished a few
differnet spots and had fish on every drop. Largest fish went 5lbs. We ended the day
with 15 keepers and a ton a shorts. We actually ended the day with only a few pieces
of bait left.
6/23&24/07
Capt. Darren reports:
Took a weekend off from chartering and brought the boat down to Brielle to
fish the JCSA Mako fever and Mako Mania. Saturday we had good fishing with 6 blue
sharks and 1 thresher that weighed in at 220lbs at Hoffmans. Back out on Sunday to
the same area. Not as much action as on Saturday, but we did hook up with another
fish and after an hour fight we boated another thresher this one a little bigger and
weighed in at 250lbs. No makos so no money, but we did have a a great time.
5/30/07
Capt. Darren reports:
John Dugan and party caught bass in the morning with about 25 being boated.
Decided to try a little fluking in the afternoon and did very well. The action was
non-stop and several guys even limited out. There are plenty of openings for the
week of 6/4, so call captain Ray at 732-803-6276 for a reservation.

Capt. Darren reports:
Capt. Darren was back out with a group from the Beaver Creek Farm. Started
out in the Ocean and made one drop and had fish on pretty quick. The fish were small
today, but we did manage to put enough keepers in the box. Made a move down to the
rocks and trolled for a little. Had one fish that went around 20 lbs. Ran back into
the bay but nothing but bluefish. Beautiful day on the water. Mary Lou Crew still
has some dates open for the best Striper fishing time in the month of June. So give
us a call!
5/27/07
Capt. Darren reports:
Had the Mary Lou Crew back out for the Stripers with a group from Bergan
County. Well I have to say I out smarted myself today. I told some friends were to
go and I actually went there first thing in the morning but did not like what I saw
and never put a line in. Well BIG mistake the fish were there and my buddies beat
them up. By the time we ran back to them the bite had slowed and we only put two
keepers in the box and tons of blue fish. That how it goes!
5/26/07
Capt. Darren reports:
Had the Mary Lou Crew out for another day of Striper fishing with the Dave
Foss and friends from Pats Tavern. We made one drop and had a fish on within 15
minutes. The biggest fish of the day was 33 lbs and a few others in the mid 20's.
Had to deal with a ton of blue fish. Not a bad trip for only 4 hours.
5/21/07
Capt. Darren reports:
Had the guys from Shamrock Design oout for our 5th trip in a row. Started off
with bait and had a 36 inch fish on within half hour of setting up then that was it.
Wind against the tide made ffor tuff clamming. Left and went back to wear we had
them the day before trolling and read all the fish there, but they would not eat. We
scratched away all day and ended up with 4 nice size fish and again got covered up
in bluefish.
5/20/07
Capt. Darren reports:
Had the George Gibson crew out again with us on Sunday. Started out clamming
and had a great bite on shorts only putting two in the box and releasing a lot. Left
and went on the troll after a call from Mark on the Drop Off. We finished the day
with a full cooler of Big Bass and enough bluefish to fill the second cooler.
5/19/07
Capt. Darren reports:
Had the Mike Gates group out from Rockaway, NJ and got a late start due to a
ball of rope around the starboard engine prop. Once out there we fished a couple of
our favorite drops and put a decent catch together. We also got covered up by blues.
Nice day out there.
5/17/07
Capt. Darren reports:
Had the Mary Lou Crew out for a half day of trolling. Went up in the reach
and had several nice fish, and all the blues we wanted. The group was very pleased
and it was just enough time before the wind picked up and the fish stopped biting.
Not a bad day on the water.

Had a group out on the Mary Lou Crew for a day of Striper fishing from Sussex

the great today.
4/28/07
Capt. Darren reports:
Had the Mary Lou Crew out with a group from Morris County. We fished a half
day and caught about 20 shorts, but no keepers. The water all around was cold and
DIRTY. We started out at Romar Shoal and then went out to the Ocean and same fish in
both spots. The fish were hitting real light and then would drop the baits. Till
next time!
10/14/06
Captain Darren Reports:
Capt. Darren and mate Phil Mancini had the Mary Lou Crew out for a shot at some fall stripers with the Savas Savadis charter on board. We made our first stop off the tip of Sand Hook and and had the fished stacked up pretty good. We managed to pull several nice fish out of there and had around a dozen shorts. But as soon as the tide slacked and turned to come back in the fishing died! We bounced around for the rest of the afternoon looking for a bite but could not get them going again.
09/30/06
Captain Darren Reports:
Had the Jon Seagul charter on board for what was going to be a bluefish charter, but when we got out to the fishing grounds it was loaded up with weakfish. First mate Phil Mancini through the cast net before we left the dock and we had a 40 gallon live well full of peanute bunker. Well it was a half day trip that started at 1:30pm and by 5pm we had our limit and we went into release mode and also added some bluefish for good measure
08/24/06
Captain Darren Reports:
Capt. Darren and mate Jeff Volker had the boys from Atlantic Grinding on board for a mixed day of fishing. We started off looking for blues and had a little trouble at first. A move out to 17 fathoms paid off as we found some fish on the surface feeding. We jigged enough fish to make them happy and we decided to switch over to the flatties. Starting at the Sandy Hook Channel looked good, but after the first drift with two keepers in the box, it was all Sea Robins. I decided to move out to the Ambrose and it paid off! We ended the day with a dozen nice fat keepers up to 3 pounds.
08/19/06
Captain Darren Reports:
Capt. Darren along with mate Phil Mancini had a full group for another half day blue fish trip. Again we fished all the spots for the blues and picked at each spot. The fish seem to be moving around and not staying in one place. I also noticed that they are really chasing the rain fish, which might be the reason the fish are not eating our baits. It was not another good day for the blues, although the ones we did catch were big.
08/18/06
Captain Darren Reports:
Capt. Darren and mate Mark Deur had a half day blue fish trip with John Ely and his two children. We started out at the Shrewbury Rocks and had a few blues. We made a move to the mud bouy and again only had a couple of fish, so we decided to make one more move out to 17 Fathoms and had nice clean water and marked some fish. We picked a few more fish, but on a whole the fishing was not good at all!
08/10/06
Captain Darren Reports:
Had the Mary Lou Crew out for another day of fluke fishing. We started off down South off of Seabright and had a steady pick of fish. Today there shorts seemed to dominate. We had 8 nice seabass to go along with a 4 keepers. Not bad fishing for a half day although again not enough big fish.
08/04/06

07/22/06
Captain Darren Reports:
Capt. Darren and mate Phil Mancini had a 6 person charter on board from East Hanover, NJ. We drifted all the usual spots in the bay and had several shorts. We made one move just outside the hook and finally found some keepers. We stayed on that drift for the rest of the day right up until the drift changed. All in all not a bad day, but again to many shorts.
07/09/06
Captain Darren Reports:
Had the boat out again today for another shot at some fluke. We started out way west up in the Reach channel but had no fish. We moved to a piece near by and had a few shorts and 2 keepers. Left and moved to the flats on the West side of the Ammo pier and had several shorts but put a few more keepers in the box. Then found a nice piece near the Reach and fished all alone and had several keeper and a ton of shorts and finshed the day with 10 keepers. Not bad with only 4 guys fishing.
07/08/06

Had a special trip today with a film crew on board from the Discovery Channel. They are doing a show in the UK called Hooked on Fishing with Paul Allen as the host. Well they filmed a fluke trip aboard the Mary Lou Crew and we put a decent catch together for the viewers. We first tried to get a nice big striper for the show, but the fish were not to be found. So we switched over to the flatties and had a ton of shorts with a few nice keepers mixed in. Paul was a pleasure to fish with and so was the film crew.
06/29/06
Captain Darren Reports:
Had 3 guy charter from Nebraska out for attempt at a half day blue fishing trip. Well to say it blunt the fish was horriable. We fished 4 different spots and only had a few blues and got destroyed by the dog fish.
06/23 & 24/06
Captain Darren Reports:
The Mary Lou and Crew took a few days off from charting to enjoy the boat for themselves and went back to Manasquan to fish the shark tournaments. On Friday we fished south east of the inlet and had only one Mako that was just a pup and set free unharmed to get bigger. We were back out on Saturday again in less then nice running conditions and had no fish all day until around 2:30pm when our short line went down and we had a fish on Fought the fish for 20 minutes when it made a turn and wrapped us in the running gear. We spent another 10 minutes trying to free it but eventually the line broke. Another one we will never know about gets away.
06/18/06
Captain Darren Reports:
Capt. Darren and mate Phil Mancini had Dave Baruzza and guys from PA out for a day of Striper and Blue fish. Started off in the morning catching all the blues the guys wanted and then made a short move at the change of the tide. Once the tide started to move the Bass bite was on. We had several large Bass all of them in the 20 lb class. All fish were caught on fresh bunker. Once the tide ran real hard the Bass turned off and the blue fish were back. We then switched over at the end of the day for a few short drifts for fluke. We had all shorts and no keepers. Great day on the water.
06/16/06
Captain Darren Reports:

We went on to catch 3 blue sharks, with one one for just a short while that we hooked right next to the boat. This blue shark was in the mid 200 lb class!. After that we had a mako in our slick but we could not get him to eat. He was too busy chasing bluefin tuna around. We did have a few blue fish in the slick and had our share of spinys. It was a beautiful day on the water and things are looking good for next weeks shark tournaments.
06/14/06
Captain Darren Reports:
Captain Darren reports he was out on Wednesday for a day of Stripers with the Mike Reinemann party from Cresskill, NJ. We fished down the beach off the Highlands and started off chunking, but only caught dogfish We went up on the troll and had one striper around 20lbs and then had the rod go off and almost got spooled. I thought it was our shot at a 50lb striper, after a long battle the fish was boated and it turned out to be a 52 3/4 lb black drum that was weighed in at Julians. The fish was caught on a white bunker spoon in 40 feet of water. Other then that it was a slow day of fishing.
06/10/06
Captain Darren Reports:
Had the Mary Lou Crew out for the JCSA fluke tournament and fished along the beach in less then good conditions. We had all the fluke we could handle the only problem was that they were all to small. Had Mark Hanna and his son Brian out again, this time offshore to the Hudson Canyon
for some real slow action. Nothing on the troll the first half of the trip and no
fish all night on the chunk untill around 4 am when a large school came in but left
as fast as they arrived. Up in the am on the troll produced 4 knock downs with one
hook up of that we never got to see. At 9:30 we hooked up with a 500lb blue marlin
that Brian fought for about 10 minutes getting to watch the fish tail walk the back
of the boat and finally saying goodbuy.

rise fish when Marks son Brian hooked up with a 5.1 lb fluke caught on a bunker
chunk!! Great bunch of guys on board and another fun trip onboard the MARY LOU
CREW!!!!

Had the guys from Eastern Concrete out for a great day of fluke fishing. We had 20
keepers up to 4lbs and would of had much more then that and probably bigger fish also
had the wind not kicked up. We were fishing with 10 oz sinkers and were unable to
hold bottom due to the hard southeast blow. We ended up with a 5 gallon bucket full
of BIG fillets and a very happy bunch of guys!!!

Had the Mitch Titan charter out for some bluefishing/fluking, but things were just
not all that great! We only were able to put a few small blues in the box and some

charter were all great sportsman! Maybe better luck next time!
