2009 Fishing Reports
2008 Fishing Reports
05/06/08
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I fished the bay today looking for anything that would bite. Fishing over by
the power plant produced blues to 5lbs with a few bass swirling after the surface
poppers but no takers. The flats produced only a few blues.I will try again tomorrow
and look for some weakfish in the AM.
04/19/08
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today we fished South of Barnegat Inlet on the wreck fishing grounds looking
for some larger fish. The conditions were perfect and the bite was slow but very
consistant thoughout the day.Limit catches were made by all anglers on board with
the largest fish topping out at 12lbs and a few other fish at 6 to 8 lbs.I have no
problem with taking only four fish per angler during the spring season but I do feel
we will be getting the Royal shaft when the season closes next week. I have always
maintained the standard of releasing all female blackfish with eggs and I now have a
hard time seeing how this has helped the fishing industry as my trips for the next
month are at about half what they were last year.
04/13/08
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
We've been concentrating our efforts on flounder this past week, and the little flatfish have not disappointed. Splitting our time between the Shrewsbury & Navesink rivers and Raritan Bay, catches have ranged from decent to excellent. On Saturday afternoon, the Pat Mchale party from Howell had a hot bite in the bay for the last 2 hours of their trip, putting 32 flounder to 17 inches in the box. On Sunday morning, the Aaron Hopmayer party from Orange county, NY, put 34 keepers to 18 inches in the cooler before the bite died out near the tide change. Sandworms and mussels worked equally well.
2007 Fishing Reports
2006 Fishing Reports
12/08/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today was our last trip for the 2007 season and we had a great day of
blackfishing.Fishing the Gard
en State Reef (north)put us into some nice fish today and all
anglers on board felt it was a great way to end
the season. The bite was good until about noon time when the fish started coming up
cold the bite slowed and only small fish were caught after that. At the end of the
day we had 20+ nice fish in the box and headed for home. I
would like to thank all my customers, new and old for fishing with me this season and
I hope we will fish together
next year and have as much fun.All in all it was a great season, nothing
broke, nobody got hurt and we caught our share or fish.Happy Holidays.
12/03/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
After sweeping the snow off the boat and out of the cockpit I loaded on my
passengers for a day of wreck fishing. I fished to south of Barnegat Inlet today
looking for some larger fish and we weren't disapointed. Although the bite was slow
but steady for most of the day we had a good catch with fish over nine pounds and a
bunch in the five and six pound class. It was cold, rainy and snowy and the wind took
its time working around to the south so we had to re-anchor a number of times but it
was worth it.At the end of the day all anglers sat around the heater in the cabin
like it was a campfire, satisfied with what they caught and enjoyed a smooth ride
home.
11/25/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I was back on the wrecks today looking for some larger blackfish.I didn't
find the bigger fish but we did have none stop action with blackfish and sea bass
for most of the day.At the end of the trip we had a good catch of both species in
the box.I will target stripers and blackfish until the 17th of December.
11/22/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today we braved the hard N/NW winds for a day of striper fishing. Fishing was
very good off IBSP with at least 30 stripers and as many blues caught throughout the
day.Matt Davis and son Trevor took turns realing in the wire with sometimes as many
as three bass at a time.Even though fifteen year old Trevor didn't catch any keepers
he had a great time catching his first stripers. Also on board were son(mate) Sean
Feehan and daughter Clare Delanoy.
11/12/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today the ocean was clam and the fishing was outstanding. We fished off IBSP
in 55-60' of water and had none stop action from both bass and blues. With all the
sand eels around the red gills on the shad bars produced most of the fish and at
times two to three bass at a time. The Manns stretch did catch the largest bass.At
the end of the day we caught at least 30 bass and as many blues with only a few
keepers but action was great.
11/11/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I had the JR Turf party on board for a day of bass fishing. We had good
fishing in the ocean off IBSP bathing beach for a few hours before the vote was to
try clamming in the bay. The last two hours of the outgoing tide produced two more
bass. With that and a little sunshine the day ended on a happy note with all
passengers on board
11/04/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I was glad to get out and find the ocean as calm as I did but the water was
still very dirty from the blow making fishing difficult. I found no stripers in
50/60' north of Barnegat Inlet and it was even tuff fishing on the wrecks that I
stopped at.We did catch some nice keeper sea bass for our efforts and It was a nice
day to be on the water.
10/21-10/22/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I fished in the afternoon on both days in the bay.On Satyrday the weather was
perfect but the fishing stunk. Sunday was much better for fishing but the bay got
nasty in the afternoon. I had a good bluefish bite by the Dyke for about two hours
as I drifted along the bank on the incoming tide.Top water plugs accounted for most
of the fish but they did chew up my peanut bunker that were intended for bass as
well.
10/20/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today I had the John Generose party out for a day of wreck fishing. We fished
NE of Barnegat Inlet on three different wrecks with about the same results on all
spots. The huge swell didn't help fishing but the ocean was fishable and we caught
over 200 sea bass today but had to work for the keepers. We ended up with a fair
catch of keepers and one keeper striped bass that was also caught on a wreck.
10/08/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I heade out to Brnegat Ridge today hoping to find some bonita that could be
caught on light tackle. I spent a couple of hours trying to locate these fish on the
troll before setting up on the anchor. The troll produced only false albacore and
the chum produced nothing, all before the ocean got nasty and we headed in early.
10/07/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I spent only a couple of hours this morning looking for bass along the beach
and found only bluefish before switching over to wreck fishing. Wreck fishing for me
was better than it had been with a better ratio of keeper sea bass and a very good
catch of large trigger fish. Most of the triggers were found high over the wreck and
at at one point with the cyrstal clear water, were in sight from the boat. The day
ended with plenty of nice size fish in the cooler.
10/06/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I fished for a half day in the mako today looking for weakfish in the very
foggy AM. The fishing was slow at bests with only small fish caught that I released
even though thay were legal size. With the fishing slow at the start, especially on a
Saturday there are way to many impatient fisherman that feel that they have to go
full throtle to the next spot and that certainly puts the fish down.so I made a
move to try blowfishing one last time and had better results with a fair catch oh
keeper fish.
10/01/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I fished in the Mako today and had a good catch of weakfish to 3lbs.I was
able to catch my limit of weakfish today and a few more fish that were released.
After that I anchored in the bay for some blowfish. The blowfishing wasn't great but
I did catch some really big fish along with a bunch of throughbacks and a few large
kingfish. Over all it was good fishing for the half day that I was out.
09/30/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
After cancelling my scheduled trip because of a poor forcast,it was decided
only in the AM that we would be fishing today. The troll first thing in the morning
produced one nice bass that was lost boatside and a couple of big blues before we
headed out to the wrecks.Wreck fishing over all was pretty good. The sea bass remain
on the small side but in good numbers, the porgies were very big and in good numbers
and a few trigger fish also found a new home in our cooler.Over all it turned out to
be good fishing and a good day on the water.Maybe next week the forcast will be more
accurate
09/24/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I went solo today in the Mako looking for weakfish at the BB buoy. I had
plenty of action with both weakfish and bluefish and had a prize of a catch when a
8lb fluke inhaled my FinS jig. The fish was boated, weighed and released on its way
to the deep water.
09/23/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today I had my charter out for a day of wreck fishing on the GS Reef (north).
We had more small sea bass than could be counted with some nice fish mixed in along
with a good catch of big porgies. We had to move to a number of wrecks to find the
keeper fish but that paid off at the end of the day as we had a good catch of both
porgies and sea bass.
09/17/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today we made our firts wreck fishing trip to kick off the fall season. It was
a good trip and as the weather kept us fromm going to far off the beach the fishing
turned out to be pretty good. We caught more blackfish than I thought we would and
some nice keepers. The sea bass were on the small side and the porgies were nice and
in good numbers. All in all it was a good trip and I hope to be back on the wrecks by
the end on the week.
09/10/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
After a challenging ride along the sod banks and out the inlet in zero
visibility we had a great day on the fluke grounds for the last day of the season.
The drift was slow but the fish were biting and we had good catch by mid day and
decided that would be it and I wanted to back in the inlet before the end of the
tide. The large swell that pushed in about mid morning made the inlet nasty ,the good
news was the fog lifted an I could see were I was going.
09/08/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today I had members of the Blues Brothers fishing club from Levittown PA on
board for a day of fluking. The other members were fishing onboard the charter boat
Perfect Drift and the BarBoom from Waretown. We all had 15+ keepers in the box at
the end of the trip and my group had the largest at 6lbs. The conditions wern't the
greatest, with a hard SW wind blowing but that did't stop the fish from biting.I
know all the members, all great guys, had a good time on the water and were happy
with the results.
09/03/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I fished today off IBSP in the deeper water and had good results with the
fluke fishing. A good many shorts fish were brought to the boat as well as a good
number of keepers. The drift was fast in the predicted SW wind but it didn't stop the
fish from biting, it was just a little uncomfortable, but that's fishing.
08/31/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today I had Mr.&Mrs.Andrews back on board along with Roy Richmond for a day
of fluking. We fished from the bathing beach on IBSP up to the SS Piers with mixed
action along the way. The highlight of the day was a thresher shark that took Roy
Richmonds hooked fluke as he was reeling it up. Roy fought the shark like a pro,and
with some moving of the boat he got the 60lbs+ fish along the boat in about thirty
minutes,we took some pictures and sent the shark on its way, it was a great catch on
a 15lb spinning outfit. The fluking for the day was only fare.
08/27/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today I had Mr.& Mrs. Andrews back on board for a day of fluke fishing. We
fished the Barnegat Light Reef and some spots to the north with the same results, a
mixed catch of sea bass, fluke and the other stuff that you usually catch when
fluking. The day ended with the seas calming down, a good ride home and some nice
fillets for the table.
08/26/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today I fished in the same area as yesterday, from IBSP to SS Park in hopes of
a repeat trip. The wind gods did not help us much today as we had little drift to
speak of.This of course is very frustrating for any captain trying to keep his
patrons happy. All anglers on board did have a great time enjoying the calm seas and
the fish they put in the box kept them happy. I will try a different spot tomorrow
and hpoefully have better results.
08/25/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today I was back on the fluke grounds with Neil Generose on board. We had a
great day of fluke fishing with the two largest fish at 6lbs.A load of shorts were
also boated along with some nice size croakers ,although not as many as yesterday.I
will fish the same area tomorrow as it showed some promise with amount of bait
present,especially squid.
08/24/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Fishing in the ocean after a good blow is always a challenge.I fished north
of Barnegat Inlet today off IBSP hoping to find the fluke in the same area as my
last trip. The fluke I found were on the small side, thankfully the croakers I found
were on the large side and in good numbers, this saving the day.All in all it was a
good day on the water and I think the fishing will improve tomorrow as the bottom
settles down.
08/13/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today I had the Steve Schuster party out for a day on the fluke grounds off
IBSP. Fishing in general was very good for most of the day and it got better as the
day went on and after the wind picked up to give us a better drift. We managed a
good amount of keepers for the day and had some excitment at the end of day when I
hooked a nice size Dusky shark only a few hundred yards off the beach. The fish took
a bunker that I had just snagged out of a school that past by the boat. The shark
was brought boatside and released.
08/12/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today I fished in the Mako for fluke in the Double Creek Channel. The fishing
got better the closer I got to the lighthouse and so did the chop from all the boat
traffic which eventually chased me off the bay.Fishing, overall was good, with a
good amount of fluke taken. The size of the fish wasn't what I had hoped for but it
still was a good day on the water.
08/10/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today I had MR.and Mrs Andrews back on the boast for a day of fluke fishing.
As luck would have it we didn't make out to the ocean, with the wind howling out of
the south, but we did manage to stay dry until early in the afternoon. The fishing in
the channels and the inlet produced a good number of fluke for the day but we only
had a few nice keepers to show for our efforts.
07/30/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I had Mr. and Mrs. Andrews out today for a day of fluke fishing off IBSP. The
day was perfect, with a light breeze to move us along,no rain and a lot of action
for most of the day. We managed a mixed catch of keeper flike and some monster
bluefish that seemed to be all over the ocean chasing bunker.
07/28/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I had the Brad Butash party out for a 3/4 day of fluking nad had another day
of great weather ,with just enough wind for a drift. The group caught a nice catch
of keeper fluke along with the biggest sea robin that I have ever seen. All anglers
on board had a great time and caught there share of keepers .
07/27/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I had the Chuck Tucker party out for a day of wreck fishing. The day started
out out and ended in flat calm seas and a mixed bag of fish to show for there
efforts. Although the fishing wasn't what I had hoped for, all on board went home
with a nice bag of fillets consisting of fluke, sea bass, porgie and some ling.
07/21-22/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I fished two afternoons in the bay with about the same results both days.On
Saturday it was a family afternoon with my wife ,Charlene catching the only keeper
fluke and a nice weakfish for dinner. On Sunday I had the Jerry Carino charter out
for a day of fluking and had only a couple of keeper fluke mixied in with a good
amount of shorts. The charter went home happy as it seemed more important to be out
on the water as a family than it was to put fish in the box.I was glad to be there
captain on this fine afternoon.
07/15/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
With the water temp. back in the lower 60's and a hard south wind blowing the
fluke fishing was a bit slow today. We worked hard to put a decent catch together but
had some bigger fish to show for our efforts. The bait outfished the buck tails
today, as we had a pretty fast drift and had trouble keeping the lighter stuff on
the bottom. All in all I was just glad we got the day in and had some nice fish to
show for it.
07/13/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
After my charter for the day did not show I decided to go fishing anyway. The
weather was to good to pass up and the fluking got better as the day went on.Today
we had much larger fish than in previous trips and in good quantity with all fish in
the 22"plus range.I was glad to see the temperature holding in the upper 60's
and the fishing holding up as well.Again many fish in the 16 3/4" range were
released .
07/09/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today the water temp. had dropped over night which made for a challenging day
on the fluke grounds. Again the jiggs accounted for most of the keeper fish, until
the wind picked up and the baits rods did a little better. We had almost as many
keepers as yesterday,it was just a little harder today. All in all it was another
great day to be on the water.
07/08/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
We went back to the fluke grounds north of Barnegat Inlet and had a banner
day with keepers from 17" to 22". The day started out with little wind to
speak of ,giving us a great chance to worked the jiggs which proved to be the better
method of catching fish as they accounted for most of the keepers.
07/07/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
The day started out as a fluke trip for Neal and John Generose hoping to
repeat some the catches that I had been having. This all changed as we reached the
ocean out of Barnegat Inlet heading north to the fluke grounds in 55 degree water
and no wind to speak of.We difted around in circles for an hour with no keepers in
the box so I made a move to some wrecks in the area looking for a good catch of sea
bass to save the day. The water was warmer off the beach and the party managed a
good catch of sea bass with a few ling mixed in.
07/02/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today was a much more relaxed day, as the seas calmed down we still had a
good drift for our fluke trip. That got the day started, hoping for another good pull
of keeper fluke,we found a great abundance of short fish but we put only a handfull
of keepers to put in the box.If we were going by last years size limit we would of
had some limit catches for the day.
07/01/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today I had my passengers back out on the wreck fishing grounds east of
Barnegat Inlet. We fished a full day in the unpredicted choppy ocean and were
rewarded with a good pull of sea bass and a few blackfish, all blackfish were
released.I fished two wrecks today, one had only a few fish to speak of and the
other had plenty of fish, with a tone of shorts, giving us the challenge of finding
the keepers which we did.At the end of the day, everyone caught there share of fish
and had a good time doing it.
06/29/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
This afternoons trip on the Barnegat Bay was another trip with none stop
action with the blues.Fishing on the flats can be just as challenging as it is
exciting, keeping the boat in the right spot while casting and catching fish is
never easy, but rewarding when you find the fish. Today I experimented again with my
home made surface plugs and got plenty of action ,with at least 30 blues released to
fight another day.
06/25/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
We were back on the wreck fishing grounds today and worked our way to the
south of Barnegat Inlet in some pretty sloppy seas but it did make for a smooth ride
home. The fishing was pretty good with some wrecks having mostly small fish but we
did find a good number of large sea bass as well as some keeper blackfish that were
males that we put in the box, all females were released. We ended our trip as the sun
finally came out with a decent catch in the cooler.
06/24/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today we made our first fluke trip of the season and had a decent catch of
fish between 17 and 22".As the day progressed and the wind picked up the
fishing got better and the ratio of keepers to shorts improved dramatically. We
ended a perfect day with plenty of fillets to take home .
06/23/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I fished late this afternoon into the evening looking for bass on the flats
off Oyster Creek channel. With the the wind blowing strong from the NW it left me
with few choices on were I could drift so I made the best of it were I wasn't
getting bounced around to much. For my efforts one nice bass was lost at the boat and
had plenty of action with bluefish.
06/18/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
We had an almost identical day of fishing as we did yesterday, the weather was
perfect and the fishing was almost as good.Again the larger, quality sea bass were
put in the cooler as well as a few big blues and everyone on board caught some nice
fish and had a great day on the water.
06/17/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today's wreck fishing trip was very good with some larger sea bass put into
the cooler. The day started out with bunch of smaller fish taking the baits but
persistance was the key to boating the lager fish that we had at the end of the day.
All anglers on board caught there share fo nice fishing and everyone went home happy
and with a large bag of fillets.
06/11/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today we were wreck fishing East of Barnegat Inlet and had a great weather
day but had to work for every sea bass we put in the box.The first three wrecks we
fished produced only a few nice fish and we didn't have a decent catch until the
last stop which saved the day.
06/10/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I headed back out on the flats again today with my dad on board for another
great day of bluefishing in the Barnegat Bay. The action was just as good as it had
been with all fish caught on surface lures an lot of fish jumping completely out of
the water making the fishing even more exciting.
06/09/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today I had my daughter on board the mako for a morning of flats fishing in
the Barnegat Bay. We targeted bluefish in the skinny water off Oyster Creek channel
and had constant action from fish in the three to four pound class, all fish were
caught on surface poppers. We released at least 20 fish and kept only a dozen for
the smoker.
06/03/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I wasn't sure if we would be able to get out after listening to the forcast
ans as we crossed the bay it didn't look good at all but when we came around the
lighthose the ocean looked calm, giving us some hope foe the day.The ocean was very
calm to my surprise for most of the day, although the water was a chilly 55 degress
making a slow day for wreck fishing. We had to work for a decent catch of sea bass
and that lasted only a few hours before the fishing stopped all together because of
the cold water and the dogiies that plagued us on and off during the day.The prize
of the day was a 12 pound blackfish that we released because she was packed with
eggs.
05/28/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today was family day as I had my dad and my wife with me for an afternoon of
flats fishing. The bluefishing was again outstanding and we also caught a nice bass
and a keeper fluke to spice up the day.It was a great day on the water a great way
to end the holiday weekend.
05/27/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today we made our last trip for blackfish before the limit changes to one
fish per person. We caught fish slow but steady for most of the day with a few
exciting times when a larger fish would come to the net and the rest of the time we
caught a decent amount of sea bass. At the end of the day we came home with a very
good mixed bag of blackfish and sea bass.
05/26/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today I had a great group of Coast Guard Academy Cadets class of
2010,including my dauhgter Clare, join me for an afternoon of none stop bluefishing
on the flats. They all caught fish consistantly for two hours and enjoyed watching
these very agressive fish attack there surface poppers. It was a great afternoon and
I was proud to have such a nice group of young people aboard my boat.
05/25/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I fished an afternoon trip today looking blues and bass on the flats off
Oyster Creek channel and found some very hungry bluefish. The action was good and
surface poppers accounted for all fish caught.
05/21/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Todays fishing was almost a repeat performance of yesterday accept the ocean
calmed down in the afternoon. The sea bass fishing today was just as good and little
bit better in some ways as all anlgers on board had there limit although it did take
all day day to achieve this it was another great day on the water.
05/20/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
With a strong NW wind predicted for today I decided to stay closer to the
beach for our wreck fishing trip.We fished a 3/4 day trip today an were very pleased
with the sea bass action on the inshore wrecks. We did have a very strong tide from
the north to contend with but it did't have any effect on the fishing as long as you
stayed on the upside on the wreck. All anglers on board had there limit or near limit
of sea bass and few blackfish to add to a nice catch.
05/14/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today's bottom fishing trip was as good as it gets, with plenty of sea bass
and blackfish to keep all anglers on board busy all day long. The fishing was better
in the afternoon when the wind picked out of the south which usually is not the way
it works but we didn't complain. We had a very good catch of sea bass today with the
largest at 4lbs and all the anglers caught there limit of blackfish .
05/13/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
My goal was to get in a half day out on the bay looking for weakfish and stay
with it until I scored, that never happened and I was glad to catch a few blues for
my efforts. The bay turned nasty in the two hours I was out,it certainly was
different than friday,oh well I was glad to get in a couple of hours and I will with
for blackfish tomorrow.Happy mothers day.
05/11/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I had a short window to fish so I decided to fish on the mako looking for
bass or blues on the flats. It was a good move as the water was crystal clear and
the bigger blues were on the feed. I had none stop action for two hours and went in
as the sun was setting with tired arms and enough fish for dinner and double digits
of fish released. It doesn't get any better than the sight of a big blue crashing a
surface popper.
05/07/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
After sitting at the dock on Sunday because of the weather I was determined
to fish somewhere today.I decided on drifting the inlet looking for anything that
would bite and bluefish was the species of the day which I was glad to catch. We did
manage some nice fish for our efforts and I was happy to have a day on the water.
05/04/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I fished the afternoon into the evening looking for weakfish at the 40 buoy
and into the open bay and found nothing. The water was cold dirty and a little
choppy so I made my final move over to the power plant where I found some bluefish
eager to bite. The fish were new to the bay and very hungry. I stayed with these fish
until they scattered with the boat traffic but it was good while it lasted.
04/30/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I decided to stay closer to the beach today, after listening to the forcast it
proved to be a good move. The fishing was decent today with a good number of fish
coming on board although not as many keepers as in my previous trips. We ended the
day in a 25k plus wind and a good catch for the conditions.
04/29/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today we fished some wrecks eight miles south of Barnegat Inlet and found the
blackfish willing to bite.It was a slow but steady pick all day and we ended the day
with all anglers catching there limit and a good number of keeper fish released.I
will fish again tomorro, hopefully with the same results.
04/23/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today was a different story,as the great flounder fishing that everyone
enjoyed for the past two days came to slow pick. We managed some nice fish in the
morning before the SW wind picked up to a steady 20k plus and shut the bite down
completely.I will try again for the flounder when the wind calms down.
04/22/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today we fished eight miles to the south of Barnegat Inlet and it was a very
good day on the blackfish grounds as three anglers were able to catch the limit of
fish plus other keepers that were released. The bite was slow but steady and the
perfect conditions for wreck fishing helped put fish in the box.Another great day to
be out on the ocean.
04/09/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
After a very interesting ride in the Oyster Creek channel with little water
under the boat we made out for our first ocean fishing trip of the season. The
targeted species was blackfish and possibly a few sea bass, and few it was as we
managed a dozen blackfish and one keeper sea bass for the day.The tide was strong
from the south making it for a slow bite most of the day,the good news is the
weather was perfect and as soon as the water warms up a little I am sure the fishing
will improve.
04/03/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today was a much better day for fishing in the bay as limit catches were made
with turn of both tides producing and not much in between. The larger fish that I
was looking for the day before did show and in good numbers.Bloods and lots of chum
helped produce a very good catch.I will fish a 3/4 day open boat trip on Easter
Sunday for winter flounder, please call for a spot at 609-647-2130
04/02/07
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today we fished near the Oyster Creek channel on the harder bottom. The ends
of both tides produced only 6 flounder for the day with nothing happening in the
middle.Although it was very foggy for most of the day it was a good choice for our
first trip of the season.I will try again on Tuesday.
11/19/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today we fished SE of Barnegat Inlet in 75' of water and had a good blackfish bite for most of the day. With the boat rocking in the 3-5'seas it was very challenging to feel the soft bite the fish provided us with and some very large fish were dropped during the trip.We did have a decent catch by the end of the day as well as some nice sea bass.We fished only with green crabs today, perhaps if we tried clams we would have caught more sea bass and probably attracted some doggies.I will stick with blackfishing for the remainder of my season.
11/06/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Trolling for bass today did not work out as I hoped it would with only bluefish coming in the boat, although we had plenty of action the bass were just not biting. I stayed in 55 to 60' of water and had bait under the boat most of the time hoping for big one to come along, maybe next trip.
11/05/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today's bottom fishing trip SE of Barnegat Inlet on some rough bottom was very good with plenty of keeper sea bass and blackfish to 8lbs As the porgies seemed to have moved on the blackfishing gets better every week, today the conditions were perfect for holding on the structure allowing the anglers none stop action all day.Tomorrow we will troll for bass.
10/22/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today we fished the Garden State Reef (North) and had none stop catching all day long. After weeding through some smaller sea bass and porgies the end result was a very good amount of keepers in the cooler as well as a few large bluefish that were caught on live peanut bunker. It looks like it will be a few more weeks before any quantity of keeper blackfish show up.I will start to carry the hard baits and target the blackfish in a couple of weeks.
10/16/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today was a perfect day to out on the water with calm seas plenty of sun and a great catch of sea bass and porgies. We fished on some rubble today and found larger sea bass and a better amount of larger porgies as well as a few bluefish. At the end of the day the seas were still calm making for a good ride back to clean our catch. Another great day to be on the water.
10/15/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today's wreck fishing trip was very productive with plenty of fish on the three wrecks we fished.I started fishing fourteen miles East of Barnegat Inlet looking for some larger sea bass but found mostly medium sized fish and alot shorts.I fished two wreck on the way back and had the same results on both.I will try again tomorrow ,hopefully in a calmer ocean.
10/09/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today's wreck fishing trip was very good with a large number of keeper sea bass as well as shorts, porgie fishing was not as good. We fished two spots today with the one further out producing better probably because the water was cleaner the inshore wreck was still riled from the hard NE.At the end of the day we had almost our limit of sea bass and a few large bluefish that were taken off one of the wrecks. It was another great day to be on the water.
10/08/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I fished the afternoon all over Barnegat Bay out to the inlet trying to catch anything that would bite.It was a nice time to fish the bay but found no bass or weakfish willing to bite in the strong outgoing tide I will wreckfish tomorrow.
10/02/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today we had very good wreck fishing in 70' of water East of Barnegat Inlet.Sea Bass dominated the catch but the porgie fishing was excellent as well.We fished two wrecks today and both had plenty of keeper fish and as many through backs. The day ended in calm sea's and a cooler full of fish.
09/25/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today's wreck fishing trip was very good with an abundant number of sea bass and porgies caught. We used some fresh peanut bunker that I caught at the dock which proved to be excellent sea bass bait and the price was good, almost all the porgies were caught on clam baits. The conditions in 50-80' of water East of Barnegat Inlet for this type of fishing were perfect with a good breeze and clean water the fish bit all day.Another great day to be on the water.
09/18/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Wreck fishing today was very good with a wide variety of fish in the box by the end of the day.A good amount of keeper sea bass dominated the catch but we also caught some very large porgies and croakers, with afew large bluefish to keep things interesting. All and all it was a great day of fishing.
09/17/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I decided to stay in the bay today looking for some weakfish. After anchoring in 8' of water off double creek channel I realized the conditions weren't very good for weakfing so I dropped a line to the bottom and found the blowfish eager to bite.We ended the day with 40 blowfish and a few nice porgies.
09/10/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Wreck fishing today wasn't what I hoped it would be mostly due to the sea conditions which came in sooner than expected. As usual the predicted NE wind at 10-15 started out at a steady 20 making it uncomfortable to fish any number of wrecks. We did manage some nice porgies as well as some decent sea bass before heading in early, hopefully next week will be better.
08/27/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today the only place to fish was the bay, with a rainy start the charter toughed it out catching shorts, sea bass and a few keeper fluke.Although the day didn't start out perfect it ended with some sun to dry things out and the charter went home happy.
08/25/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today we fished for fluke off IBSP in 25'40' of water. The fishing was very good in the morning and got even better in the afternoon when the wind picked up.Again a ton of shorts were caught but two anglers managed six nice keepers in the mix.Another great day on the water.
08/22/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today we fished for fluke off IBSP in 25-35' of water with a great bite that lasted all day.Two anglers caught twelve keeper fluke and many shorts. The drift from the north was perfect and even with the water temp chilling some from the day before the fish were very agressive. Another great day on the water.
08/21/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Fishing today could not have been better with a bite that lasted all day off IBSP in 25-35' of water. The colder water that moved in after yesterdays south wind seemed to help the fishing as two anglers boated twelve keeper fluke and a large amount off shorts.
08/19/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today was a totally different day with fluke up to 8lbs and lots of action most of the day. Again the first drift put three keepers in the boat and a slow pick until the wind picked up and so did the fishing . The last hour the two anglers on board put another seven keepers in the boat ending the day with a respectable catch. It doesn't look good for tomorrow ,hopefully monday will be better.
08/18/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Fluke fishing today started out with great promise catching three nice keeper fluke on the first drift along with many shorts.Unfortunately that was it for the day except for a good amount of shorts and a nice size bonita. When the drift stopped everything slowed but the sea and weather were perfect. We will try again tomorrow.
08/13/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Fluke fishing in the ocean of IBSP in 50' of water was much better than it had been as we caught fish steady for most of the day.A good drift helped us cover enough bottom to find the fish a repeat our drifts putting some nice keepers in the box.The amount of shorts to keepers is still about five to one but we did catch more larger fish today allowing everyone to go home with a nice bag of fillets.
08/12/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today the Steve D'Alessio charter decided to fish the bay for fluke in a mid morning to mid afternoon trip. We fished parts of both tides in the main channel and caught fish consistently with many shorts taken as well as some nice keepers. The youngest member of the group,Andrew was an impressive young man with his passion and interest in fishing giving us all hope for the future of fisherman.
08/07/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today I had another family of father snd sons + on board and they had a great time cathing fluke and telling storys. It was a tough day finding a great amount of keeper fish but they managed a decent catch by the end of the day.We also boated a nice size bonito and lost another as a school came by while we were on a drift.
08/06/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today was an afternoon of fun and relaxation as the charter of father and sons enjoyed a day on the bay. Catching short fluke and some keepers along with a fair amount of bluefish kept everyone busy while soaking up the sun and telling storys. I cant't think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon I know my dad and I were both entertained .
08/05/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
The inshore trolling trip today started out very slow, actually without any action untill late afternoon but ended with a decent catch.I started on the S.Ridge the same tiny spot were I caught fish a few days before. This proved to be a worthless try as I passed a squid dragger on that same spot, no bait , no fish.Moving off to the East didn't work out the way I thought with only a few hits off a lone pot so I worked back to the N. Ridge and finally caught fish late in the P.M with the planner/spoon combo taking all the fish. The charter was happy that I fished the extra hour so they had fish to bring home.
07/31/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today we trolled the ridges SE of Barnegat Inlet and found plenty of action all day. With the bonita feeding on sand eels and small squid we boated 35 fish for a day's trolling. The weather was perfect with a light breeze and no bugs to bite us today
07/30/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Wreck fishing for this time of year was better than I expected. We had a very good catch of large sea bass and a dozen nice ling at the end of the day.The conditions for wreck fishing with no wind at all to hold us in one spot made for a challenging day but still a great day on the water except for the black flies that kept us jumping most of the day.
07/24/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
A perfect weather day on the water made up for the lack of keeper fluke. It seemed like most of the fish were just short of the legal limit making for much frustration having to let go so many fish and keeping so few,but that's fishing ,maybe tomorrow it will be the other way around.
07/21/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today we fished in the bay for fluke thinking it was going to blow hard from the south and it did, much earlier than predicted. It was a good choice as we had a decent catch of fish in the Oyster Creek channel and some other deep cuts. Most fish were caught by power difting against the tide.We ended the day with six keeper fluke and twice as many shorts.
07/17/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
The conditions for fluking started out pretty good, even without any wind we had a nice drift from the north with the current covering over a mile and catching fish most of the time. This was our best dift with and eight pounder in the box a some other keepers. After that it was all skates some keeper sea bass and a big bluefish that was released. nice day on the water.
07/16/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today was another day of flat calm sea's,a slight breeze early held us over the wreck for about an hour. This was the only good shot at the sea bass and blackfish and we did very well during that time. The rest of the day was just a pick,we found out later that some huge bluefish had invaded the wrecks chasing most of the wreck dwellers into concealment. We realized this after catshing a good number of them on surface poppers while we were still on the anchor.Nice calm day but very hot.
07/14/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today the charter enjoyed the flat calm ocean and cool air temperature along with a decent catch of sea bass, blackfish and ling. The morning was better for wreck fishing with the current and the slight breeze coming from the same direction, the afternoon was more challenging. The highlight of the day was a 12lb bluefish taken on a surface popper by a customer, making it his first bluefish, way to go Jim.
07/10/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
After a very long 30 minute ride to south in hard SW wind we made it to our spot on the GSN reef.Looking for some larger blackfish we found them cooporating up to 8lbs as well as a good catch of sea bass. The sea bass seem to spawning now so the catch was mostly large males.A nice sunny day on the water,a little calmer would made it perfect.
07/07/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today's wreck fishing trip turned out to be productive. A limit catch of some larger blackfish was an added bonus as well as a good amount of keeper sea bass.We fished three wrecks off Barnegat with all of them producing decent catches. It wan't red hot all the time ,but if you kept at it you managed a good catch at the end of the day
07/04/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Todays fluke trip did not work out as planned with very cold water and to many doggies to count. I fished in the deep water as well as on the beach off SS Park with the same results. Switching to wreck fishing saved the day as we caught limit catches of very large sea bass, squid heads and clams worked the best.
06/30/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Fished in the bay today in the mako looking for fluke. We started out in the Oyster Creek chanel at the 40 buoy with the outgoing tide catching some shorts, bluefish and some kingfish.I switched to power drifting against the tide catching more and larger fluke. Ended the day with 6 keepers and as many shorts.
06/26/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today the cold water really shut the fluke fishing down.It was slow at best for most of the morning on the Barnegat Light Reef and the constant pestering from the doggies just about ruined any chances the sluggish fluke had.We did manage a few nice fish but it wasn't what it should be at this time of year.Hopefully this fishing will improve.
06/18/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Wreck fishing today was not what it had been. With a strong south tide and a stronger SW wind it was slow going. Trying to convince bottom feeders to bite when they are cold is a challenge at best. We put together a decent catch by the end of the day with some very large Sea Bass in the box but it wasn't easy.Hopefully things will get back to normal for next week.
06/12/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today was much nicer, flat seas off the beach with clear water and a north current keeping the fish happy all day. We caught plenty off keeper sea bass, as well as our limit of male blackfish, releasing many large females with eggs.Even when the wind switched to a hard sw the bite was still good. Great day on the water.
06/11/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I started out on the troll north of Barnegat Inlet looking for bass.I did not find what I was looking for so I switched over to bottom fishing in the shallow water. The rough bottom had plenty of sea bass and blackfish, most were under the size limit but we did catch enough keepers to make everyone happy.Hopefully the wind will let up tomorrow.
06/05/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Todays charter for stripers canceled,so I decided to explore some new wrecks. It was a good choice ,as we found some larger Sea Bass and plenty of them. The only problem we had was the amount of dogfish ,hopefully the will move off soon.Great day, perfect weather and lots of fish.
06/04/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today we fished two wrecks East of Barnegat Inlet. The charter caught Sea Bass and Blackfish all day long, with limit catches on both species. The conditions were near perfect with the exception of the dogfish which we worked around most of the day.I will fish again tomorrow on some different wrecks.
05/29/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Wreck fishing for my 1/2 day charter was very productive. We had none stop action as soon as the anchor was tight. They caught more keeper black fish today and plenty of sea bass.It seemed strange to have the south wind come on strong and the bite get better,go figure.A good time was had for all.
05/28/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today we fished three wrecks east of Barnegat Inlet. All wrecks produced plenty of sea bass and black fish of mixed sizes keeping everyone busy all day.The weather was perfect, light winds frome the NE,good water temp. and lots of sunshine. At the end of the day we had our limit of sea bass and a repectable catch of blackfish.
05/27/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I started on the flats off the 40 buoy looking for Bluefish. The bay was flat calm and very clear. After drifting into the deeper water I found them feeding on very small shrimp.I experimented with different poppers and they all caught fish.I had plenty of action for about two hours, until the bite stopped abruptly, probably all the boat traffic.
05/22/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Wreck fishing today was pretty decent. We had plenty of action all morning with Sea Bass and Blackfish. Most of the Blackfish were released but almost all the Sea Bass made the size limit with some very large one's mixed in.All the Blackfish on crabs and the Sea Bass on soft and hard baits. When the current switched in the early afternoon the fishing slowed up,by this time we had enough of the 20+ NW wind and headed home.It was a good day on the water.
05/21/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Fishing the bay in the morning was perfect, light winds, clear water.I put time in trying for weakfish, sticking with the plastics I caught only bluefish. After loosing to many soft lures and jig heads,I swithed to poppers and had decent action with Bluefish. The winds and a choppy bay chased me in at noon. All fish were caught in the warmer water.
05/07/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
We started fishing in the a.m on the flats south of Oyster Creek channel. With a very fast dift from the North ,we made it to Double Creek Channel in a short time, catching nothing. The same proved true for the rest of the day, even clamming in the inlet was a frustrating effort. The good news is that the sun was shinning and we were fishing.
05/06/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I fished the late afternoon/evening looking for bass on the flats behind the BI Buoy. The water was very clear but had to much slime and grass floating, making it difficult to keep the lures clean. I moved across the channel by the 40 buoy and found plenty of bluefish. All fish were caught on poppers , with action until the sun went down.
04/24/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today was very interesting/challenging day. After weaving through the white water in Barnegat Inlet we started fishing a wreck in 50' of water. The bite was good , although staying in one place was difficult as the the squals came on.After things calmed down a bit,the bite slowed ,almost to a stop. The fish felt much colder in the afternoon, thin accounting for a slower afternoon.
04/23/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
We fished a late afternoon/evening trip between the thunderstorms. The bay water was better than I expected,a little cloudy but very calmThe warmer water was off the flats, producing only Bluefish no weakies yet but hopefully this week.I fished off the 40 buoy closer to the BI.
04/17/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today we made our fist ocean trip.Fishing for blackfish 5 miles east of Barnegat Inlet,we had an outstanding bite all morning.Although we did not catch many large taug,we certainly had the numbers. This fishing was much better than I thought, with very aggressive fish taking the soft and hard baits.I will stay with this fishing as long as the weather cooporates.
04/14/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I started fishing around 11:00 am,thinking the bite would be better in the early afternoon. That was mistake,as I caught my only two fish within the first half hour I was fishing. I did speak to other fishermen that had decent catches, all in the mid morning.I will try again tomorrow.
04/11/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I fished for a half day today in the 17 mako. The morning was as nice as it gets, light winds and sunshine. This lasted until about 11am when the south wind decided to blow. I lasted until 12:30,too bouncy for me I managed three fish and I think the afternoon,(outgoing tide) had some promise. The water cleaned up and I had a few more bites today. I will try again on Friday.
04/10/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today was a much better day. Although the water was still dirty, the sun was shinning and the wind let up, making it much easier to feel the liitle pecking bite of these finicky fish.We fished across from the power plant closer to the 40 buoy, the outgoing tide was the ticket as well as lots of patience. We ended the day with a dozen nice sized fish.Sand worms seemed to work better today.
04/09/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
the most excitement we had all day was with the weather. The forcasted northwest 10-15 turned out to be a good 20+ out of the north, making the bay an interesting color of white caps and dirty water. Thus the fishing was poor except for one very large flounder and a handfull of smaller but legal size fish.It was a good day to tell stories and hope the next day would be better.
04/03/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today was a different story. Starting out in the sunshine, which lasted about twenty minutes until it got cold from the wind and rain,we caught four fish that had to be worked for. Moving three times trying different depths and bottom did nothing for us, only to wind up back at the same place we started.Just an off day,but I was happy to be fishing.I will stay with the flounder for at least another week.
04/02/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
On Sunday fishing east of the power plant the group of 5 anglers caught 15 very large flounders. It was a slow pick most of the morning into the early afternoon when the wind shifted and the bite stopped.A perfect sunny day seemed to help encourage the bite as well as using blood worms , lots of clam chum and corn.Again a perfect day on the water.
03/27/06
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
We made our first trip of the season for flounder. Fishing just south of the BB marker in eight feet of water,(hard bottom) produced six fish in the morning, nothing in the afternoon.Moving to the deeper water with soft bottom produced nothing.Lots of chum and double anchoring seem to help.It was a nice day on the water and I was glad to be fishing. Next week should be better.
