Jeff Walsh and party of first time tuna anglers (except for one guy,) did pretty good with their first tunas. At the end of the night the charter kept 10 yellows and a mahi while being spooled by a huge shark or sword. Not a bad chunk trip, things are heating up out there. The stripers are keeping all inshore trips happy.

2001 Fishing Reports

12/13/01
Captain Pete Wagner Reports:
The striped bass fishing continued today with the six man party from Lyndhurst enjoying the extended bass fishing. After a slow start on the knoll we found the bass down the beach feeding on herring and swirling on top, while reading them thick as could be.We quickly limited out both keepers and slots then added all bonus fish along with some slob bluefish. The striped bass fishing and blackfishing both have been very good this December and should continue into January. We will continue to sail for both species as long as possible.

08/15-16/01
Captain Pete Wagner:
The Hyper Striper was in the Hudson for an overniter Wednesday into Thursday.Anchoring in five hundred feet of water we had tuna under the boat in an hour but did not get the bite going till 3am.From 3 on we put 11 tuna in the boxes between 70-100lbs,all yellows. We also added one longfin on a chunk after sunrise.A few more were hooked and dropped but you'll have that.A bit bumpy on the way out,but beautiful when we left for home at 8am.Other trips this week have been focused on the weakfish which are providing excellent action for all our inshore trips.

06/30/01
Captain Pete Wagner:
We made our first canyon trip of 2001 on Saturday with Charlie Marrow and party from Pa.Trolling was good as 7 yellows to 40lbs along with one gaffer Mahi made it to the box.Another 2 yellows were dropped during the days troll. All in all a good trip with good weather.

2000 Fishing Reports

December 22, 2000
Captain Pete reports:
We finally got out today after a few blowouts and fishing was better than expected.Bob carlson and party from Brielle fished on one piece of bottom all day,and the togging was very good.Lots of shorts, over 20 shorts per man but,all managed to pick their limit, plus let a few go.Total was 64 keepers and 1 keeper codfish and a few macks as well.Nice day togging in the snow.Looks like we may be able to squeeze out another few weeks with the blackfish.

December 15, 2000
Captain Pete reports:
The Chris Ozempco party from Cranford was aboard yesterday for very good blackfishing. One drop in 90 ft produced 74 keepers to eight lbs plus about 25 shorts. No ling were taken but a few ocean pouts and all the mackeral and herring you wanted to jig.Blown out this weekend, but will continue to target the togs through the new year.

July 22, 23, 24, 2000
Captain Pete reports:
Striper fishing continues to produce, however it's not the easy fishing we had the past few months. We've switched to trolling and the results were very good.Saturday the Eric Maltese party put 8 keepers over 28 inches in the box plus a cooler of bluefish.Sunday the John Todd party had good striper action putting 12 stripers in the box up to 15lbs and added a bunch of blues to 12lbs.Monday the Brian Canpollattaro party managed over 20 bass including 8 slot fish and 4 over 28 inches including an 18lber on umbrellas. We should have bass around for a while and also are starting to see some large weakfish showing up.

July 14, 15, 16, 17, 2000
Captain Pete reports:
Striper fishing continues in high gear in the Sandy Hook area.John Mcgill had super action on bait on Friday evening as they limited early and released bass for 2 hours.Charlie Marrow fished the rain and wind on Sat.and after 15 bass were caught the wind chased us into the river where we had a good shot of fluke including a 5lber on a bucktail.First time striper fisherman Chris Ledonne and family had a limit on Sun. nite off the hook then added a few nice weakies to the catch.Monday George Karsos and family totalled over 40 stripers on the chunk, keeping 12 and releasing the rest along with some big bluefish. This fishing should continue as there is a large body of bass in the Sandy Hook area.

May 13, 2000
Captain Pete reports:
What a day. We had are limit in 3 hours. Largest bass being 20 lbs., not one short was caught. Spent the rest of the day catching fluke, 14 caught and about the same on shorts.

April 27, 2000
Captain Pete reports:
Information : The Lucent tech group led by Bill Bender had a good day with the bass.We started out trolling and picked 4 keepers plus about 10 shorts before deciding to do some bait fishing. This paid off as we picked away and by 1pm had 16 keepers to 19lbs, plus 15 more shorts when calling it quits.

April 13, 14, 15, 2000
Captain Pete reports:
The bass fishing has been consistent the last few days with the last three parties limiting on keepers .Thursday was especially good as the bass were very active and were considerably larger than they have been. The Beko party was limited early and releasing by 9:30 am.Friday the Ozempco party had to work but still managed 16 keepers and 10 shorts.Saturday's mob scene didn't bother the bass too much,as the Hudson party totalled 14 keepers and 8 shorts by 1pm.Things are looking good for the coming weeks.

April 6, 2000
Capt Pete & mate Brian Morris Report:
We made our first trip to look for stripers today.Just the two of us went scouting to see what was happening. We did well as 6 keepers to 18lbs were boated in 4 hours. Two shorts were also caught. This bodes well for upcoming bass charters which begin tommorow.I hope this spring is as good as the last few.
