Fisherman 72' Party Boat

1/6/2010
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Once again, I'm reaching out to everyone who enjoys the pleasure of fishing.. On Wednesday Feb. 24 there is a Protest in Washington regarding the demise of fishing as we know it. NOAA and the powers that be have decided that we no longer matter and want to make the world a better place for fish. The Magnuson Stevens act has come to the point where it is a weapon for the radical enviro's to end fishing as we know it. Our own president has given the power to NOAA to implement programs that will put thousands of hard working people out of business. Not just Fisherman like us, but the Tackle shops, restauraunts, bait dealers, hotels, fish markets anyone who makes thier living or enjoys the freedom of fishing. It's time to say enough is enough and our voices must be heard!!!
In these tough times and horrible economy it's hard to commit to such a venture, but if you could try to make the trip to Washington on the 24th, it will say that we are tired of our freedoms being taken away, we are tired of all the crap this goverment is shoving down our throats, and maybe, just maybe, we can make a differance. There is strength in numbers, numbers are what we need to let these people know we have had it!!! There are Several locations for Busses on the SSFFF websight...Hope to see you there...
Thank You, Capt.Ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
We were at least hoping for a glimmer of light this week to try and give it a couple more shots at the Bass. With the weather the way it's been and now a new storm coming for Thursday, for us the Fat lady has sung. Read the report from the Gambler yesterday, and although you can't go by one day, it's pretty obvious we'd be beating a dead horse. Congradulations to Eric Jensen "Mortgage Man" for winning this Falls, Big Bass Pool.....
Thanks to all for fishing with us in 2009. Hope you have a Healthy and Happy New Year and that we see you in the Spring.... Taking the Bride on a Cruise in Feb for our 26th wedding anniversary, then it's off to Washington on the 24th. Hope many of you will join us all, in the fight of our lives!!! Capt.Ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Just got confirmation that busses will be leaving from Atlantic Highlands to Washington on the 24th....Once you have purchased your ticket from any of the supporting sights, feel free to contact me so I can add you to the Atlantic Highlands list. Remember, this is all of our futures were talking about. We need a huge showing in Washington, not only people from NJ but the whole country. The earlier you book, the easier it will be for all of us involved with the process and in keeping the transportation on track. You can contact me through E mail captainrononly@verizon.net Thanks to all, hope to see you on the 24th. Capt.Ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Had that Change of tide bite this morning!! 3 drifts of hit the bottom and fish on. A few keepers, mostly shorts but after yesterday, it felt great! Once the drift got to 3 knots that was it for the rest of the day.... Went into search mode down the beach, out east, back to the channels for nothing more than a hack. Dave had the big fish at 15 1/2 pounds plus a whole bunch of shorts. Amazing how the readings just seem to disappear once conditions get bad, where the hell do they go!! From solid readings on the bottom, to absolutly nothing, still can't figure it out after all these years.... Capt. Ron

12/14/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
After the morning bite yesterday (before the weather went to crap) I thought for sure today would be a banner day. Had a bunch of the Monday regs out looking for one last shot at some action, to no avail!! Had a couple shots at some short fish between the channels early, from there it was downhill. Looked down the beach only to find bait, back up to the channels, over to the NY side, back to the channels for slack tide again, NG. Not a good bite to the South and it sounds like the bottom fishing was tough also, so hopefully it was just a one day situation. Thanks to Anchor Joe, Andy, Jimmy, Doc and Dave for the Great Xmas gifts, I'm enjoying them as I type!! Capt.Ron

12/12/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
After a 3 day Hiatus and a report of diminishing winds, couldn't wait to get out today....Got a report of Birds diving hard down the beach....could see them as we rounded the hook. Once there, we had a pick on the shorts, didn't catch what we saw for sure. Bounced around inshore then offshore trying to find the right bite but it didn't happen. Once the tide changed, what little action we did have died. Covered a whole bunch of miles trying to do the right thing to no avail....and the diminishing wind....yea at 1:00 o'clock!!! High hook had 14 fish with NO KEEPERS!!! Capt.Ron

12/08/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
If we had caught what we read on the fish finder, today would have been unreal!!! Good jig fishing on way too many, almost keepers. Would make a drift catch one or two on the great readings...go back and they'd bite their heads off! All day like that. Had a shot of some bigger bluefish also. I'm sure, now that no boats are out there, with the change of tide, those suckers are going crazy!!! Not getting out of bed tomorrow with that forecast. I'm all for the snot, but tomorrow would be idiotic.... East 25 to 30 with rain. Papa didn't raise no fool!!! Will post on the weather for Thursday tomorrow. Capt.Ron

12/07/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Good action today with a more consistant bite early and then again after the change of tide. Plenty of Small fish and a hand full of keepers. Fished a couple area's, didn't find to much life to the South. The load of herring we had down the beach yesterday with gannets on them, were no where to be found today!! Ava 27's, 47's and jigs with tails worked today. Beautifull day on the water for the Monday regs...Tomorrow looks good then the Super Crap for Wednesday!!! Capt. Ron

12/05/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
As of two days ago, another fishery has been closed to both Rec and Commercial fishermen. The Red Snapper from the Gulf States all the way to the Carolina's. It's just a matter of time.....other than a lawsuit being filled, where's the outrage except among ourselves?? No public protest's, No report on 60 minutes or the local news for that matter on how this rouge agency is putting hard working Americans out of Business, WITH THE PRESIDENTS SUPPORT!!!! Why are we making it so easy? As men, let me ask those who sit idly bye, What happened to your BALLS??? In high school most would have taken on the bully, maybe you got your ass kicked, maybe you didn't, one thing you got by doing it was RESPECT. The bully became your friend, he along with anyone else had respect because you stood up. We are faced with the biggest bully of our lifetime right now, and yet we let him kick sand in our face!! We don't fight back and some even think if we do, it will make us look bad!! You know what looks bad, standing on the unemployment line wondering how did this all come about, why, for what reason? Is it about the fish for real??? BS. Don't believe that for a minute. It's about people wielding power over other people because they can. Jobs that were made up to do nothing more than be justified by Something getting done, whether it puts people out of business or takes away a way of life. Respect, what respect? Don't let me once hear those cry who have done nothing....you'll hear the respect I have for that. BS! Capt. Ron

12/02/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
After a couple days Hiatus, the bite was back on today. Worked some Bird life in the channels, just at slack into the change. Had a good shot at the keepers and short fish. Bite died on the outgoing so we took a ride South. Found more life along the way with shots of bass and blues. Couldn't make the same drift twice, had to keep moving to stay on the fish. Made it down to the Rocks, lots of life, but the bite was tough to come by, saw the fish rolling, couldn't catch many of them. Lost way too many rigs to stay there. Headed back to the North and a few more shots at the shorts...Great day on the water with action and a great group of guys!! Big "Silent" Bob had the hot hand today with 2 nice keepers and who knows how many shorts!! Thursday is the Craps, I don't mind the snot, but when you throw in some flem, it's time to stay home!!!! See you on Friday... Capt.Ron

12/01/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Thought the two day blight was over when we came around the hook and saw some black sky!! Got to the bird life, had a few shots at the "Tiny Bass", the ones I talked about in yesterdays post, then that was it!! Covered the Ocean, even watched the Tuna jumping around the boat...(if only I coulda snagged one or two of those suckers!!) Small group today, yet we had to work twice as hard to catch crap!! A few small fish here and there, and not many blues. We should get out tomorrow, Thursday is looking a little shakey though....Capt.Ron

11/30/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Not a good bite again today as we covered the miles looking for signs of life. Read fish, would stop and catch a couple bass and an odd bluefish then that was it. Tried to get back on them, the'd be gone! Didn't have much of a drift so whatever fish we did stop on, would just keep swimming away. Finished up back in the channels with the same conditions and same type of bite, by then the rain had started, time to go. Even the Bluefish that were so abundant the past two weeks have taken a break or have just moved on... Same situation every year, we catch the hell outta them for a week or so, they leave with the main body of bait, the weather gets cold then the smaller fish take over to finish out the season. Still a couple good weeks left, don't let a couple tough days discourage you, I'll let you know when the "Fat lady has Sung".....Capt.ron

11/29/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Like I've said in the past, you gotta love the snot!! Today proved it once again..Flat calm ocean, no wind and way too much traffic to put any amount of fish in the boat. Had a few good drifts to start the day, mostly shorts but we did manage some keepers up until the traffic got way too crazy. Ran down the beach only to hear the Southern guys talking about the same lack of a bite. Even the Bluefish that we couldn't get away from the past two weeks didn't chew! Looked inshore, offshore (where the Tuna where jumping out of the water) then back up to the North for the change of tide... That didn't help either, so tomorrow is another day. One tough day outta the past two weeks ain't so bad!!! Capt.Ron

11/27/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Yes, we had the wind, but it didn't stop the fish from biting. Tough conditions and we needed the heavier jigs today. With the wind we drifted at 2.2 knots, most of the guys I know who troll think 3 knots is perfect! Feel like a broken record everyday with the "Turn the handles thing" today it was turn them slow, not too fast or you will catch the blues. Still, way too many customers bouncing their jigs when the fish are 15 ft. off the bottom...Lot's of lost tackle that way also...at $5 a pop for jigs, I'd listen to the Captain. Tony the Lawyer finally had his day in court, leading the way with 7 fish, 3 keepers and the pool fish at 15 pounds!! Eddie was right behind him with 5 fish and 2 keepers. Way too many 26 and 27 inch fish going back and the Blues are still ferocious! With the hard West wind tomorrow we will fish down the beach and shouldn't have a problem. Plenty area's to choose from...But I'm Beggin you, PLEASE listen to what we tell you to do, if you don't understand, myself and the crew will be more than happy to show you what's going on. Capt.Ron

11/25/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Not the wild fishing of the past two days, but good action on Bass and Blues. Knew from the start when the bass we did catch already had their bellies full, that the bite wouldn't last all day. Ever try getting a boat load of people to do what you tell them? Every stop, guys the fish are off the bottom 10 ft, I see them on the machine..turn the handles get the jigs moving. Look over the side and half the boat is bouncing like their bottom fishing! One guy actually said (after two hours) hey, I found a new technique, I'm reeling the jig in!! KILL ME... hello, is anyone listening? When the fish were on the bottom I would tell everyone to crank 15 to 20 times then drop back, WHAT? Bring it all the way in and catch a bluefish, hey Capt. where's the Bass?....Kill me. Enjoy the pics and especially the Holiday tomorrow. We will be back at it on Friday...and please don't ask me "Are you going to sail if it Rains"? After getting our butts kicked Monday and Tuesday, rain would be a blessing, bring your slickers!!!! Capt. Ron

11/24/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Another Banner day with the Bass and Blues ...Took a couple drifts to get the customers in the right grove, but it was non-stop fishing after that. Bass and Blues for miles with the smaller bass to start, up to 28 inches then the bigger fish for a couple drifts. Weather man really screwed up today with rain in the forcast and 20 knot winds from the North??? We did have a swell but it was without a doubt fishable! Thank God the Sand eels have returned! It's been years since we've seen this many, both the bass and blues are just gorged with them. Strange how the peanut bunker were nothing like the past few seasons this fall, and now the eels are back.....Fall fishing does not get any better than this!!!!!! Lot's of pics once again, enjoy. Capt.Ron

11/23/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Gotta love the NE'sters!! Only boat to shape up and sail today with the exception of two bottom boats from NY. Gave everyone the heads up that it wasn't going to be comfortable...but they had to know that anyway!! Had an all day bite on some of the biggest fish in 2 weeks. Several from 16 to 21 pounds. Dr. Keith lead the way once again with the hot hand landing 6. Andy Seney and Dave each had 3 in the cooler. Several other limits along with a mess of Bluefish. Anchor Joe was back in the saddle after a brief hiatus landing a couple shorts and a few blues... Sad to see the 6 guys who came an hour and a half to go fishing, go home, you missed one hell of a day!! Lots of pics tonight....Capt.Ron

11/22/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Could have sunk the boat with bluefish once again today, but we kept on looking for the bass. Offshore and inshore till we would get a shot of fish, then the blues would take over. Way too many shorts and a handfull of keepers with the pool fish going 16 pounds. Read lot's of bass with the best bite coming late, after the change of tide. Good all day action though and a nice fall fishing day with a bit of a roll!! Capt.Ron

11/21/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Excellant jig fishing once again. Bite lasted all day, every drift with Stripers and Blues. Huge area of fish, especially from the talk I heard on the radio. Bass are anywhere from shorts to 31 inches with the pool fish normally between 14 and 20 pounds. Many limits again with Danny leading the way with 5 keepers. My normal fall rant: Please bring tackle that can swing a bluefish...noodle rods with 17 pound test ain't gonna make. We don't mind gaffing the blues IF YOU ARE GOING TO KEEP THEM! Tonight we had 2 barrels of fish left on the boat and this is a discrace. If you don't want them, swing them and toss'em back. No way you should be fishing with 6 oz jigs and 17 pound test anyway, you'll snap more tackle off casting or setting the hook. If I could seporate the Blues from the bass (as I've said in the past) I would, but that's not happining. So Please come prepaired....Capt.Ron

11/20/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Another beat'em up day fishing with the jigs! Weatherman screwed all of us big time once again, as the sun was out by 7AM!!! 3 bass boats and 1 bottom boat made it out (none with any amount of customers) from our harbor. Little slow start till we got our small group acclimated, then it was non-stop action the rest of the day. Much smaller fish on the bass today but we did manage a couple limits along with Dr. Keith and his hot hand putting 3 keepers in the box. Pool fish just made 12 pounds. Miles of blue fish gorging on Sand eels (and our jigs)!! Probably could have stayed on 1 drift for hours, but we kept searching, trying to get through too the Stripers. Great action for those who showed!! Capt.Ron

11/19/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Very good jig fishing once again today! Had all Stripers to start out the morning with Keepers and shorts...Once the tide changed it got ugly and we had to look elsewhere. Found fish every place we went, inshore Bass, offshore, way too may Blues. Ran back inshore chasing the Bass. Not too often I leave fish to look for fish,(kinda the golden rule,) but the blues were ferocious in the deeper water and we only managed 4 bass in the mayhem. Had one drift that lasted 40 minutes before we left them biting...Several limits on quality fish with the pool fish going 18 pounds! Fall fishing at it's finast....Capt.ron

11/18/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Very good jig fishing today on mostly Striped Bass! Had the last of the incoming tide when the life started to show. Fish bit through slack and into the outgoing, then it just got too nasty to fish the channels. Ran down the beach, where the bite continued. Several limits on fish up to 17pounds, including Henry, Mitch, George, and a whole bunch of others..Great spread of fish from Sandy Hook to South of Manasquan !!! Some big blues in the mix but they weren't the dominate factor today!! Load of bait, lots of fish, it doesn't get any better than this! Will attach some pics later as the battery finally died in the camera...Capt.Ron

11/17/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Switched up between jigging and clamming today. Best of the action came later in the day as the tide slowed down. Couple very nice size fish along with way too many shorts!! High hook landed 3 keepers and some shorts. Tom Krako had his limit as well as Chris ( who had the day off) with 2, 17 pound beauties. Nice day on the water for those that showed. Capt. Ron

11/16/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Knew yesterday would be what it was...didn't even post as you knew what to expect with all that past weather.... Today we caught the change of tide bite on jigs in the AM. Had about an hour and a half of good fishing with keepers and shorts before the current ran too hard, bringing out the dirty water. Fished the clams for a couple hours and finally started a one, one pick as the current slowed down. After yesterday, today was a total relief to see those babies are still here. Swell laid way down, water color could still be better, but nothing like yesterday!! Can't wait till tomorrow...Capt.ron

11/13/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Looks like we have one more day of this crap! With the ebb tide most of the day tomorrow, the huge swell and still NE to 20, it doesn't look good. Sunday will be the next shot at getting out. It's like starting all over after a few days off. Did the NE'ster push all the bait out? Are the fish so banged up that they moved to deeper water, did they continue South for an early departure? Who knows, all we can do is get out there and give it hell. We still have the smaller fish (jig fish) that are the last ones to leave. We normall catch them in December between the channels and down the beach. Time will tell... Hopefully, the reports for next week will good and this weather was only a minor setback. Capt.ron

11/11/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
After yesterdays fishing, thought with todays NE weather we would have a banner day. My exact words to Eric "Mortgage Man" were, Tomorrow, they will bite thier asses off!! Naturally when you make a statement like that it comes back to bite your own ASS, and it did!! Had a hard outgoing current into that wind which made it too tough to fish the channels. Ran down the beach thinking we would loose some of the swell, that didn't work either, it was just as nasty there. Anchored up on a decent reading and had a one, one pick on smaller fish. 6 keepers and some shorts. Bite completely died at slack and the change so we went back to the jigging. Had the bird life like yesterday, saw the fish rolling, just had a tough time catching them. All smaller fish today, nothing like yesterday. Very frustrating to say the least. Seems it's been a bite today, no bite tomorrow senerio for a week now. Won't loose my faith though as we have had way too many excellant trips on the NE'sters. One bad one doesn't change my opinion or the anticipation of a great day when we have weather like this. Capt.Ron PS: Gotta blame Mitch for promissing all those fish to everyone today!!!!

11/10/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
I know the Monday boys are gonna shake thier heads after the late bite yesterday, but today was the way it outta be!! Had life right from the start with keepers coming in immediatly on jigs. Huge blues in the mix also. Got about an hour before we lost the tide and had to wait for the change, so we anchored and clammed. Caught 2 fish right away then that was it. Didn't take long after the change for the place to erupt again! Back to the jigs for the rest of the day with many fish over 32 inches. Pool fish at 19 pounds. Several limits and high hooks with 3 keepers. Only wish we could have had half the action yesterday. Many guys try to time the fishing from the reports , like you try to time the market, you'll never win. Just gotta come down and take the shot, you know we give it 110%. My favorite weather for tomorrow NE', you know I'll be there!!!!! Some good pics tonight, enjoy. Capt. Ron

11/09/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Naturally after Sundays report, the Monday boys were out in force (some actually went on another boat) but the AM proved much tougher than expected. The dogfish were out in force no matter where we went... Caught a couple fish here and there, but they wouldn't turn on. Drifted, Anchored whatever, until the last hour and a half of the day when we ran after some bird life, just at the end of the tide. Couple good shots at the bass with Dave putting 3 keepers in the box. Dan Wistuk had 2 nice fish on Krocs, first ones caught on those this season. Dr. Keith and Madman Jim went neck and neck on the pool with two fish at 18and 18 pounds couple ounces, (the winner going to Doc). Some single fish and a handfull of Blues, not a great day by any means, but we did manage to find'em. Oh Yea, JOE-SKI, who hadn't caught a Fluke all season managed ONE Today, go figure!!

11/08/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Tried to fish local this morning, but with everyone and thier brother on the water it was very tough. Caught 3 keepers to start and had no more room to breath. Got outta there and made another drop, caught dog fish like no tomorrow...Ran another hour down the beach and found non-stop fishing on shorts and keepers with the pool fish going 22 pounds! Many limits as conditions for clamming with a boat load of customers were perfect!! Something that surely doesn't happen to often, especially on a weekend. Didn't have to toss one jig today. Only wish I could have had half of this fishing yesterday with the nice group of people we had aboard. Weather looks good for a couple days, come on down. Plenty of pics tonight...enjoy. Capt.Ron

11/07/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
No where near the bird life as yesterday, this morning. Went right to the bait fishing. Had a couple shorts, a couple keepers before one of NY's finest happened to check me out, only he did it on my side the chum was running. After that, the the sharks took over. Put the boat on a drift for a while and picked at some Blues and short bass. Ran all over looking for the bite, but it just didn't happen, even after the change of tide. Once again today at the end of the day, fish on top but very hard to catch. Just a heads up...I DO NOT EXCEPT competitors coupons, please don't even ask! If you have a coupon from them, Why Aren't you going Back????? Capt.Ron

11/06/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Called the marine forcast's bluff today and told everyone to come down. Once again...we didn't have a gale, it blew 20 , but what the hell is that this time of year? What did screw us up was the incoming against. Had bird life first thing in the morning, set up on some readings and only caught a bluefish and one bass. Got outta there and ran way south...Had three huge area's of bird life, readings were unreal, yet all we managed were Bluefish. Looked in on the jetties, off in deeper water and couldn't manage a Bass, loads of Blues. Ran back up to the North after the change of tide, very nice ocean, better conditions and just a couple bass on the clams. Just a note about jigging....yes, we do catch bluefish this time of year, we are certainly looking for bass as they do travel together. If I was that good to seporate them, I'd be rich.....WE ARE A BASS BOAT, that's what we do, Clamming, Jigging, whatever...if you think for a minute I want to run to Long Branch to catch Blues, obviously you don't know Capt.Ron. (had to get that off my chest)...continue.. Back out to the East on more bird life, had fish rolling all around the boat for a mile, yet we would catch one fish here and there, very frustrating to say the least. Ended the day covering way too many miles and docking close to 4pm with a bunch of blues and 5 keeper bass....2 Scotch night, only cause I gotta take the wife to dinner for her birthday!! Capt.ron

11/05/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
"Mortgage Man" ERIC is our new BIG FISH pool leader landing a very nice 21 pounder today. Although, not the biggest on the boat (and not to bust his bubble) but 10 year old Markez had a 24 pounder, but didn't enter the fall special. Eric landed 2 beauties, the second being a 17 pounder plus a couple that had to go back. Tougher fishing today. Started out the morning with the last of the incoming, looked like what I thought was going to be a banner day when the first couple fish broke 20lbs. Couple keepers, couple shorts than that was it. Took a bit of a ride waiting for the change, only to find way too many Horn Dogs once again. Ran back to the North after the change and could never get past a slow, one, one pick. Great to see some bigger fish though. I'm sure tomorrow with the 25 knot wind and a bit of snot, they will be hungry!! Capt.Ron

11/04/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
After a shakey start today with the last of the incoming and enough "endangered species" to make a thousand fish and chip sandwiches, the bite turned on with the ebb. A very nice all day bite on shorts and keepers. Several guys, once again, had thier limits and then some. Jimmy from south jersey had the pool fish 22 1/2 pounds along with his 3 keepers. Henry Landau had 12 fish with his 3 keepers. Ron Solin, back from his summer bottom fishing adventures started his fall season with 14 fish, 3 in the box! Jack, Tom, Frank, all the wendsday boys had thier limits. Great day on the water, couldn't think of a better way to spend my 51st... Fall fishing at it's best right now!!! Capt.Ron

11/03/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Had Bob Miller family and friends out with us today for some Striper fishing... Morning started out on a high note (for me) as I see this huge cake comming aboard, on the side it says Happy Birthday Capt. Ron!! Sue Miller did the honors and it was great! The Montecristos and Single Malt scotch weren't to shabby either! Oh yea, the fishing....started out with a pick on some short fish, didn't have the current and had to wait for the change of tide. Had a couple keepers and some more shorts as the tide started to run, but it was short lived. Made a couple moves to only catch a few shorts. Took a bit of a ride and found the best fishing of the day with 12 year old Jayme Torres catching his first 3 keeper bass and 3 shorts! What a way to start a striper fishing career.. Capt.Ron Sr. took the trip with us and landed 5. High hook for the party also had 5 and the pool fish at 15 pounds. Great day on the water for a tremendous bunch of people....I always say I have the best customers on the planet! Thanks to all for the gifts and that delicious cake!! Bob and Jim , you truly are the best.....capt.ron

11/02/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Gotta love those NE'sters!! Had a pick to start on the begining of the outgoing, as the current picked up, so did the sea. Made a short move, read a load of fish and anchored up. Barely had the engines shut down when we had 7 fish on immediatly!! It was none stop fishing for the rest of the day... Loads of small fish, then the keepers. Many limits and then some including Mitch Jevic with 15 fish, 3 nice keepers and the pool fish at 16 pounds! Big Bob G "Dockbuilder" also landed his 3...Andy where were you!!!! Bird life was incredable in the AM, just a little to nasty to jig, didn't have to though as the clams gave us all the action we needed. Chartered Tuesday AM, then open the rest of the week....NOWS THE TIME!!! Capt.Ron

11/01/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Perfect fall day on the water, good conditions and we didn't get our butts kicked in!!! Switched between clamming and jigging as the day went on. Some nice keepers, including Mikes 17 pound pool fish and more shorts on the bass than I have seen in a while...Eric (Mortgage Man) had his limit along with Lynn, Joe and Mike. Not Super hot fishing but enough to keep it interesting. NE tomorrow should keep us on our toes! CHARTERED TUESDAY the 3rd..sorry for the late post on that....Capt.Ron

10/31/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
I certainly don't mind a Butt kickin when it's outta the NE. Fish seem to get very aggressive, but when it blows South 25 with gusts to 30 and we have an ebb tide, it's not a pretty picture!!! First drop we started fish right away with a one, one pick. Couple shorts and a handfull of keepers. As the current started to run out harder, the bite stopped. Made a move and had a shot of 3 fish, then it died again. Took a ride out to the East, came back on the Anchor and had 10 fish on, only they were the endangered species!!! Got the hell outta there fast! Ran down the beach, once there the wind was now a steady 27 knots and nasty, read fish, anchored and once again caught 2 right away, that was it. Back to the North for the last drop, gannets hitting the water, great readings, 2 keepers and a short, one bluefish right away....that was it...by now I'm thinking tonight it's TANGARAY!! Walter was high hook with 5 fish, 3 keepers and 2 shorts. Couple guys had 2 keepers, many with none. Tough day to say the least....Capt.Ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Another great day on the water. Several limits and then some on fish from shorts to 17 pounds. 85 year old, twice a week regular, Lou Ciavatti took the lead in our Big fish pool with a 17 pounder. Lou also had a 21 3/4 pounder the week before we started the pool, but said he is determened to win it this year. Capt. Ron Sr. was back to his old form landing 3 nice keepers. Nice pick right up till the end of the tide around 11:30 then a lull but the bite came back as the flood took over. Didn't have to stay late today as we already had ours by 2:00 pm. Too bad all those calls during the week for Friday didn't show (and no, we weren't crowded)!!!, you missed one hell of a day!! Enjoy the pics...... Capt.Ron

10/29/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Only two of us shaped up today, and glad we did. Nasty ocean most of the day, but that's what we always talk about, and what we want! Had bird life down the beach, tried to drift but it was a little to nasty. Anchored up and picked away at the bass. Bite died at slack and it took forever to get any incoming water. Made a couple moves waiting for the change....when it came, the bite was on big time!! Blackfish Doug landed 7 fish, keeping his 3, young Tyler Vill took the day off from school so he could teach his Dad Jeff how it's done, landing 6 fish on his own! Several limits and then some including Kevin and Josie who put 5 nice fish in the box. Joe, Don, Tommy, Mike all had their limits.....gotta love the snot!!!! Pics are worth a thousand words, can't wait till tomorrow. Capt.ron

10/27/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Took the 12 customers that showed up in the whole harbor today bassin....Nasty to say the least, but the fish were hungry!! Had 4 keepers and a couple shorts in the first few minutes. Bite slowed at slack, but came back on after the change. Even with the East wind and incoming it was still pretty rough. Rob Bannon/Rockaway, N.J. lead the way with 14 fish!! 3 being keepers and the pool. Nice mix between the shorts and keepers with the largest going 14 pounds. Not ONE Dogfish today, Thank God! I know Anchor Joe is gonna read this and have a fit after yesterday!! Sorry Joe, good luck with the operation on Wednesday. Hope to see you back at it before the season ends. Weather doesn't look good for Wednesday with NE at 25 knots and rain...Thursday & Friday should be O.K. Capt.ron

10/25/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Started out clamming this morning, only to catch the incoming tide against the hard NW wind. First dozen or so fish in the boat were HORN DOGS!! Got the hell outta there fast and ran down the beach. Jigged the rest of the day in some pretty nasty conditions. Caught the blues and only a few keeper and short bass. Plenty of bird life, bait and fish rolling on top, not what I would call a Hot bite though. Less wind and better conditions tomorrow should help....Capt.ron

10/22/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Feel like Christopher Columbus after todays trip!!! Found the clam boats and thought, this is gonna be a day. One keeper on the first drift, not a bite on the second. Anchored up and tried clamming...NG. Ran off of the Highlands, NG..chased some birds off the beach, just a couple blues. Ran even further South only to catch some Bluefish. By now, the psyche of the morning is just about gone. Gave it one last shot on the rocks, where the stroke continued!!! Loads of bait again no matter where we went, and we didn't see the fish rolling on top like yesterday. Hopefully with the NE predicted for tomorrow, things will improve.....good thing I wrote this report (before) my second scotch, don't want to get too emotional, I could get banned!! Capt.ron

10/21/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Today is proof that good reports come back to bite me in the A***!!!! After Monday's fishing, had to figure the rest of the week would be hot...not today. Today the fish rolled on top, broke water all around the boat, we could see them for a mile and couldn't get them to bite!! Clams, Jigs, Eels, all artificials and top water plugs, nothing worked!! Only had a couple keepers to show for the first decent gang of customers on the boat in a while. If I had a Gill net, today, I would have used it!! Readings on fish and bait are unbeleavable, that's probably the problem, when the bait starts to move out, the bite will certainly get better and be more consistant. Dan Bias (hammer) worked his butt off to catch a couple fish, at least one keeper for dinner, so the gift certificate Pinky supplied was worth it! Thanks, Capt.Ron

10/20/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Not the Hot bite of yesterday but we still managed a couple limits with Fireman John leading the way with 6 fish, 3 being keepers. Henry Landau also had 3 keeping his two. Morning started off with wind against the tide for a couple hours, lousy conditions. Read loads of bait and had fish under the boat on every drop but they weren't too aggressive. We'd catch 1 or 2 fish then have to move. Was like that until the last drop of the day when the bite got a bit better. Smaller fish today compared to yesterdays also. Most keepers were 31 inches and under including the pool winning 21 pounder. Spoiled after yesteday!! Capt.ron

10/19/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Finally!! After all the NE weather the bass were hungry today. Started out jigging on some bird life but with the end of the tide coming we only caught a few shorts and a couple blues. Went and anchored off the beach for the change of tide, had fish on right away. Action lasted right till it was time to come home. Just about everyone had thier limit and then some with bonus tags. Fish from 24 to 33 inches. Just about all Monday regs today, after paying thier dues for the past couple weeks, today they were rewarded! Feel like a new man, can't wait to get back out tomorrow!! I promised pics, so here they are.... Capt.ron

10/13/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Been clamming for bass since last wednesday, hopeing things would pick up. Friday we had a shot of fish (all in the AM) including a 21 pounder, Saturday we didn't sail, Sunday and Monday produced just a couple fish. Yesterday, I had Mike Brown and his son out for his birthday, last year on the same day we boated 41 keepers..Mike and his son had 5 of them! The only consulation for him yesteday was, he did get the pool fish. Temp. drop and the NE coming this week should get things a little more active....Been going nuts since the early Fluke closing. The afternoon trips are finished for this season, too say I'm dissapointed with the way that went is an understatement. Like every customer who comes on board or every person who reads these fishing reports, our future is in someone else's hands!! Keep sending those letters, get involved in a organization, do something other than skipping to the next report, waiting for a miracle to happen. 2010 is going to be even tougher with some of the new crap comming down the pipe. Even a personal vent or Blog gets people going and keeps important issues in the public's eye..Thanks! Capt. Ron

10/09/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Finally caught some keeper Stripers today, even though the bite was short lived...84 year old Lou Ciavatti started off the fall fishing with the first bass, a beauty at 22 pounds! Had another 4 keepers and a couple shorts for the 6 customers who showed today...Had a few good readings with fish close to the bottom, still couldn't get them to bite hard. Colder temps will turn things on for sure. All fish were caught on clams, heard of fish also being caught on eels and worms. Capt.ron

09/30/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Very good fishing for Blues and Sea Bass today. Plenty of action right from the start with a couple guys catching a dozen to 15 beautifull keeper Sea bass after their fill of Blues. Jigs and bait both worked well. Water was absolutly clear where you could see the fish 20 ft. down. Had a couple Albies around late in the day, but we didn't hook any. Weather looks good for Friday then crap so far for Saturday!! Going to start clamming a bit more come Monday, got to find a bite somewhere on the bass too keep things going......Capt.ron

09/29/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Seems 9 customers was the magic number for the few boats that made it out today, including us. Made our way down the beach, did some jigging, chumming and porgie fishing. Not half as nasty as yesterday afternoon when the wind went honking!! The touch more to the West (instead of South) made all the differance in the world. No stripers yet, only heard of a couple caught the past few days, mostly shorts....hang in there the best is yet to come!!!

09/28/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Had a handfull of the regs out today for some fun fishing...Caught the blues on bait and jigs. Couple guys bottom fished and had some of the biggest Porgies I have seen in a long time!! All was good till around 12:15 when the wind went to honkin and it got nasty....4 shots at anchoring with gusts to 30 only produced Rocks in the anchor and impossible conditions. Time to go home! Going to start clamming towards the end of the week, looking over all the spots that should start to produce the Stripers. Don't expect too much just yet, but we gotta give it hell, the customers I have just don't want the blues...too bad because they are one of the best fighting fish in the ocean, they get no respect!! Capt.Ron

09/26/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Morning started out with good fishing after a bumpy ride out. Had a nice pick for a couple hours on 6 to 10 lb fish, then the bite just died. Ran into the rocks to finish it up with another handfull of fish. Capt. Frank is out tonight and the bite is on once again....starting to get a bit nasty with the outgoing. Sunday looks like crap with a good SE wind and Rain in the forcast. Looks like a couple good days of West to Northwest wind coming, hopefully that will cool things off and get us into the October groove!! Capt.ron

09/23/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Excellant bait and jig fishing today for the few who showed up to fish. Had fish on as soon as we came back on the anchor and it lasted all day!! When a couple of the guys got tiered they switched to bottom fishing and had some nice Sea Bass and Porgies to top off the buckets....A short bout of light rain for 20 minutes but the rest of the day was perfect. Sailing everyday 7:30am. The afternoon trips are now only on Saturday and Sunday 3:30pm till 9:30pm for Blues. Thanks, Capt. Ron

09/21/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Tried some clamming this morning, but that was short lived!!! Didn't have a bite as the water temp is still around 67 degrees. Didn't waste too much time with that and headed offshore. Chumming was good for the first couple hours on Bluefish, along with the jigs. Once we lost the tide that was it. Most of the guys put on bottom rigs and caught Sea Bass, Progies, and Trigger Fish the rest of the day. Couple more shots of Blues after the tide change. Great day on the water for those who came out. Doing what we gotta do for now until the True Fall fishing Starts!!!! Capt.ron

09/19/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Very tough to say the least today. Not much current as we caught the last of the incoming and had to wait for the change of tide (which took forever)for anything to happen!! Had a slow pick on some nice Bluefish, no Stripers. Couple caught on bait, couple on jigs, certainly nothing to brag about. No cocktails for 3 weeks (until today's 3 scotch night). Landed 3, would have been keeper fluke on jigs...don't even get me going on that one! Capt. Frank is out tonight with a boat load of customers, had fish on as soon as he came back on the anchor and it's been good fishing since....go figure! All gaff size Blues up to 15 pounds. Weather looks great for Sunday, come on down.

09/15/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Great day on the water today. No rain, no swells, no 30 knot winds.Started out clamming in some of the local spots, with the good outgoing I thought we would find some action, if only a pick. NG, fished a couple spots and caught one short. Headed down the beach, put the boat on a drift and mostly jigged all day. Huge Bluefish with a load of Albacore and a couple Bonito mixed in....Water temp still up there, I'm sure once we get a few good cold fronts come through the bass will turn on. Like I've said in the past...PATIENCE!!! Good things come to those who wait!! Capt.ron

09/12/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Didn't make it out either trip today. Just a half a handfull of customers to go around. Weather looks like it should be good for the next several days, the ocean will lay down and we will be back at it everyday. Last season we started to catch some bass on the clams just around the 15th of the month. Will do the same thing this year, claming, chunking or jigging. Sailing every day now for Stripers and Blues. Just happened to be staying in Chatham Mass this week. The Great Whites were a mile from our place, helicopters flying everday keeping an eye on them. Taked to one of the local fishermen who watched a shark devour a seal, said the shark had to be 2,000 pounds!!!....he was actually shakin up by the verousity of the animal and I guess felt pretty bad for the seal!! Those suckers (seals) are all over the place this time of year and estimated to be around 30,000 animals. Capt.ron

09/02/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Ran out to the ocean today to catch the change of tide. Knew it would be a short window for the fish to bite before the current ran too hard....Caught it just right!!! Very good action on the shorts with keepers coming in till around 11:00am. Just as we hit one knot in the drift, Scott Ure, Kearny N.J. hooked into a beauty...11.2 pounds to take the lead in our big pool!! Ran offshore to fish some rough bottom and get away from the current. Ended the day with a good catch of Sea Bass up to 4 pounds and nice catch of keeper Fluke.

08/30/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Fished the ocean all day today. Thought at first we wouldn't have a bite with the left over swell from the last storm. Had very good action up until the end of the tide. Several nice keepers including Tom Krako's pool winning 6 pounder. Fished Ambrose at slack, very good action but mostly shorts on that side. Came back to our side to finish out the day. Eric was high hook with 4 keepers and a couple guys had 3. Very nice day on the water!! Capt.ron

08/28/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Didn't post yesterday as I rolled my crueller off with the North East wind and incoming tide, plus there wasn't too much to talk about. Fished the ocean only because the fish are starting to move OUT, they ain't movin IN! Bottom life fell apart and the fluke fishing was just a pick. We did manage a nice pool fish when Dave Fritz landed a 6.4 pound beauty (the highlight of the day). Fished the ocean again this morning, was hopeing the last of the outgoing wouldn't be too strong and we could fish the channels...WRONG! Would have took one hell of a beating had we stopped. Ran down the beach again, a few short fish, couple Sea Bass and the Pool fish at 8.7 pounds! Ended the day in the bay with another 7.4 pound fish, but the action wasn't worth a crap!! Wind blew all day, the sun we were supposed to have until the afternoon must have shown on MARS cause we didn't see it here. Cancelled tomorrows Charter as the customers are in a panick about the weather, you know exactly what's going to happen.....Watch for tomorrows Vent!!!!! Capt.Ron

08/26/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Much better fishing today and we didn't have to run all over the ocean to find them!! Fished the nasty bottom, lost some rigs but it was worth it with some nice catches of Sea bass and Fluke. High hook had 3 Fluke, pool fish went 4 1/2 pounds. Nice all day fishing. Now we have to deal with the next supposed storm that's coming....just can't get a break!!!!!!! Capt.ron

08/25/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Started out this morning offshore on some hard bottom, thought maybe the roll had laid down enough to get the bite going. Going out the channel I thought, conditions will be perfect, no heave, a good drift, today’s the day! Got to Scotland and out of no-where comes the left over heave from that Bastard Bill!!! Caught a couple Fluke and a few Sea Bass, not the bite I anticipated. Ran to the Mud Buoy and some more sticky stuff… a keeper right away, couple sea bass then a stroke! Decided to check out the great bottom from 70 to 40 ft. at the Rocks. Once again, not enough life to stay there. Fished around some wrecks and snags power drifting, caught fish, not enough and lost too many rigs. Last shot effort at the change of tide, a few prayers and some lit candles finally found a bite!! Plenty of keeper Sea Bass, some keeper Fluke, a bunch of short Fluke for action and a half assed reward for paying my dues!! Vinny,“Vintastic” had 3 nice keeper Fluke and a half dozen keeper Sea Bass for High hook. Pool fish went 4 pounds. Couldn’t take hanging in the bay and working the channels for another day, had to search for something better, even if it was wrong…..Think I made the right choice today though. Capt.Ron

08/24/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Fished the ocean all day...Still a good swell which surely had the bottom pretty well churned up. Had a handfull of nice size keepers including Dr. Keiths 5 3/4 pound pool fish. Few nice Sea Bass, but certainly not enough action. Covered several area's only to find the same thing no matter where we went. Weather looks good for the next few days, I'm sure the bite will turn back on, there ain't much time left!!!! Bluefishing was excellant again last night, fish on as soon as the boat came back on the anchor. Had a bass in the mix also. Still sailing Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons 3:30pm till 9:30p.m.. CHARTERED this SATURDAY morning...the last one! Capt.ron

08/21/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
The 2009 season is quickly coming to an end, just when the bigger fish are starting too bite. We have lost over 40 prime days of Fluke fishing in the past few years. Do you think that's chump change? No, who the hell is going to make a living trying to catch Magic Weakfish that hopefully will appear in force? Who's going to make a living trying to catch Porgies (which are excellant fighting fish on light tackle and great eating) and Pin Sea Bass? Answer: NO-ONE! Boats are going to be tied to the dock while a viable fishery still excists. Labor day weekend I suggested all the boats in Atlantic Highlands go against the grain, keep the Fluke signs up, call the TV people, The news people and any other News hungry folks out there and let them know this is our protest against what's going on. Lock me up, pay the fine, it's my right to protest the BS going on! Let the politicians know how serious a situation we are in. Yet, we sit back and take it without a word of Anger (except amongst ourself's.) Has any one in this business even attempted to get an extension of the season due to the hard economic times, the loss of business due to weather? NO. Hell, I can't even get any of the guys to man a both at the SSFFF during the winter. Point is: In strength, we have numbers and power, hidding your head in the sand and being complacent gets you nothing. Today we have to fight for what we beleave. Just a total shame that no-one beleaves or has any fight left!!!! Excuse me if I have offended any self rightous law abidding citizens here, but the guys who threw the Tea in the harbor had no problem with you, and it certainly made a differance! Just sad nobody has any balls left. With that goes our pride, or heritage, without so much as a fight......they win. Spell check didn't work, sorry for that!!!! Capt.Ron

08/19/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Decided to go searching for some bigger fish today after yesterdays tough fishing in the bay, glad we did.....Caught the change of tide bite perfect, had one drift with 8 keepers from 4 to 8 pounds. Pool lead changed hands 4 times as it went from 5 1/2 to 6.5 then 8.4 with the winner being Normans fish at 9.2 pounds after his 7 3/4!!! Pool fish was thick as hell! Scott Uribe had his limit with 3 fish over 5 lbs. Once again John Forelich just missed his limit but had 5 great fish, first one landed weighted 5 3/4 then a 7 topped off by an 8.4 pounder. Big babies are out there, you just gotta find em! Capt.ron

08/17/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Good action pretty much all day today. Lucked out and stayed closer to home with the right conditions for drifting. Another nice 6 pound pool fish caught by Richard Steinbach who is on vacation from Wisconsin. Rich also had 5 keepers. Couple guys had 4 fish, some 3 and some none (keepers). Stayed just about all day on the Reach workin every part of the channel. Another hot one as the Sun got higher, the heat turned up!!! Chartered Thursday and Friday morning this week....Capt.ron

08/16/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Didn't find the life in the bay or the channels today, only had a hadfull of fish to start. Decided to take a ride down the beach and fish some rough bottom. Glad we did as Dr. Keith landed his largest so far at 7.9 pounds to take the pool. Had several fish that went 3 to 5 pounds and some sea bass. Shorts, but not hot action on them. No limits, high hook had 3 nice fish and many had none. Still, a nice day on the water even though it was HOT!!!! Capt.Frank had very good blue fishing last night and is at it again tonight..just made a short move as he only had a pick, and now the bite is on!!! Capt.ron

08/15/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Fished the reach first thing in the A.M. with a very slow drift and just a pick on some shorts and keepers. Figured it would take way too long to get the change of tide and a drift so we took off for the channels. First drift we hit the end of the tide just right and picked at the shorts and a few keepers. Second drift when we tried to do it again, the show was over! Waited for the incoming but the bite never turned on...ran over to SH channel where it was mostly Sea Robbins. Back to the knoll for a 2.1 knot drift. Finished up in the bay where Frank Petullo caught the pool fish on the last drift. Had 4 other keepers and a couple shorts on that on also. Not a good day of catching for us today... Good Bluefishing last night for Capt. Frank...fish up to 12 pounds kept everyone busy..Capt.Ron

08/14/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Had a Charter with Sheri Sabino and the Bard Company today.....very good fishing for all aboard with plenty of action and an impressive amount of keepers for folks who only fish once a year. Pool fish was a tie with two twins matching 6 1/2 pounds each!! Couple guys in the bow bucktailing had non-stop action just about all day. Beautifull day, great group with good fishing, it doesn't get any better than that! After Shrimpmans limit and then some catch yesterday, he must have been too tired to try it again, saw him on a half day boat this afternoon....will he ever learn???? Capt.ron

08/13/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
other: Well it finally had to happen, The Shrimpman (Steve) caught his limit and then some! Told him in the AM (after putting the Kibash to the Tuna fishing the other day) that if he jinxed me today, HE WAS BANNED! Must have scared the crap outta him cause he fished like a madman....Winning the pool was a bonus with a very nice 7 pound fish. Tough conditions kept us out of the ocean and working the throttles all day to keep the boat straight again. Couple area's produced, one or two didn't. Kept going till we found the ones that wanted to bite. Last hour of the day was excellant for the guys bucktailing. Chartered Friday morning. Capt.ron

08/12/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Had to work the throttles in the AM as the incoming and East wind made it a dissaster for drifting. Had a nice pick going on until the current and drift reached 2.1 knots!!! Ran back to the reach to finish out the day with a pick on shorts and keepers. Jimmy learn and Mitch Jevic had high hook honors with 3 nice fish in the cooler. Pool fish went 4 3/4 pounds. Weather didn't wait till the afternoon to come through and put a damper on things for half the day. Plenty of fish around, like I said yesterday, don't wait too long!!! Capt.ron Chartered Friday morning.......

08/11/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Nice all day bite on the Fluke today! Plenty of action with a good catch of keepers. High hook had 5, couple guys had 4 and 3 each in the cooler. Bait worked best in the AM, after the change it was non-stop and some double headers on the bucktail & spro set ups. Fishing has been good for over a week now, don't wait too long to come down, it's almost over!!! Capt.ron

08/10/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
With the way the morning started out, SW to W wind against the tide, I thought we were in for one hell of a day! Had a slider to start out and rolled like crazy. Ran out to the channels where the wind actually helped slow us down in the current...the bite turned on and we had good action for the rest of the day. Couple guys had thier limit with Andy, Don and his buddy just missing with 5 keepers each!! Very nice fish up to 6 3/4 pounds on the pool fish. Had to perform a Fluke excorsism on Anchor Joe, as he couldn't get locked up, made a joke about the fluke demons leaving him alone, no sooner did I touch his head, he hooked up!!! Maybe I'm in the wrong business? 18 shorts without a keeper though, maybe I should have hit his head a little harder? The past week has finally felt like, this is fishing the way it should be!! Today, for us, the bait worked much better than the bucktails. Several young adults on board who also had a blast today catching Sea Robbins and keeper Fluke! Capt. Frank had good bluefish action last night after Saturdays bummer. Couple nice Stripers made it even more interesting....Chartered Friday AM. Capt.ron

08/09/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Got lucky in The AM despite some CRAP conditions. Had a nice pick and stayed with it as there really weren't too many places to go. Tommy Krako just missed his limit with 5 good fish in the box for high hook. Several nice fish from 3 1/2 to 7 pounds on the pool fish. Rocco Farrina and Vinny Fantastic also had 3 nice keepers. Gave the channels a shot at the change of tide, that lasted 2 drifts, didn't see the bite happining so we ran back to the knoll to finish it up. Rolled our Crueler off all day trying to put a catch together. In the end we still had a half way decent amount of keepers. Probably lost the biggest Fluke of my life today! Bouncing a bucktail and 1/4 ounce spro tipped with a Sea Robin strip, sucker slammed me like never before, had the rod bent in half, felt two huge head shakes as I lifted him off the bottom and BAM...gone!!! That's what keeps me coming back...just wish I could have seen it, but tomorrow is another day..................Bluefishing last night was the absolute S***S, one fish and 2 lost. Tonight is a little different story with a bite going on as I type. Capt.ron

08/08/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Knew this morning the channels, W/hard current and NE breeze, wouldn't be the place to start out. Had to test the patience theory once again. Fished the bay picking on some shorts and a handfull of keepers, traffic got way to crazy to even attempt staying there. Headed for the channels and the change of tide. Still crappy conditions with a slider, but the bite turned on! John Froelich, my star fluker of 2009, once again had his limit, plus another pool fish for the third time this season!! John has gotten used to the bucktail, spro, gulp setup and in two short seasons has become a master at it. How many other guys can claim 3 limits this season? Would have loved to see the Shrimpman test his skills today, but he had a higher calling....hope it paid off. Bluefishing last night was very good, one drop, all gaff size fish! The bite is on finally after one hell of a July blight!!!! Come on down. Capt.ron

08/06/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Caught the change of tide today and rode it out for just under 2 hours! Very good action the whole way with way too many 17 1/2 inch fish going back. The keepers are what kept things interesting to say the least. A couple 3 to 5pound fish came in, then Walter Deck/Toms River thought he had the bottom, the head shake told us different! Fish hit the scale at 9 pounds 2 ounces!! Next one for Walt was a 5 1/2 pounder in the box. Youngsters Ethan & Noah Steinbach along with their Dad came all the way from Wisconsin to enjoy some NJ Fluke fishing, landing 5 keepers and Noah's first ever Keeper Striper! Another Father and son team Eric Guller topped the cooler with 7 beauties also. Great day on the water, good people, good fun for all!!! Chartered in the AM Friday. Sailing for Blues 3:30pm till 9:30pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Capt.Ron

08/05/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Another good day on the Fluke Front! Morning started out with a slow pick on shorts and keepers, could have hung in there all day but decided to look elsewhere. Fished the channels the rest of the day. Current got to the point where it was way too strong, but a pretty good South wind came up and slowed us down...this will probably be the only time you ever hear me say a South wind was a good thing!!! Several quality fish once again, including another 6 1/2 pound pool winner. No limits, just good fishing. The 17 and 17 1/2's going back are a joke as I have said before, that could have made the differance between 2 and 3 keepers and Limit fishing....B.S. Capt.ron Chartered this Friday morning. Bluefishing Friday,Saturday and Sunday afternoon 3:30pm till 9:30pm. The bluefish bite is on!

08/04/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Another good fishing day with plenty of action. Started out much slower this morning compaired to the past few days but we did manage several nice fish, including the pool fish at 6 3/4 pounds. Ran out to the ocean to catch the change of tide, first drift lasted an hour and 35 minutes with constant action on shorts and keepers! Vinny C. missed his limit by one as the sucker fell off while trying to swing it in, still had plenty of meat to go home with though. South wind came up and sent us back to the bay to finish up the day. Capt.ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Had a nice all day bite today. Good catch of quality keepers and plenty of shorts for action...Bucktailing was the best in the AM, then the bait worked better in the afternoon. Jimmy Learn finally got in the grove after 3 skunks to land 5 beautifull fish and high hook honors! Big Al, a Monday reg had to settle for a tie on the pool when the second 5 3/4 pounder came aboard late in the day. Just a heads up guys..things sometimes get close and people can make a wrong move, if you stop on top of a boat and drift into them, please don't make an ass of yourself and say 'f' em, like it's thier fault. You were wrong. Had this situation today, tried to explain to the guy what was going on, and that was his reply!! I must be mellowing out, 25 years ago it would have been a differn't story! Dad did have a heart attack, doctors told him had he waited one more day, he wouldn't be here!! To dangerous to operate so medicine and some excersize is in order....Thank you so much for all the support, it is greatly appreciated by our family!! You guys are the best....Capt.ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Very limited to where we could fish today as the weather came early! Picked on shorts and some keepers, not good fishing. After the pounding the bay took the last few days I'm suprised there's anything left!! Still some good fish to be had and tomorrow with the NW and outgoing, we should be O.K. Bluefishing finally broke open last night for Capt. Frank!! After paying our dues for over a month, the bite was on. Fish from 5 to 14 pounds and 3 keeper Stripers to boot. Going back to the 3:30pm till 9:30 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons this week. Chartered the next 3 Friday mornings... On a personal note: Capt.Ron Sr has been admitted to the I.C.U. at Monmouth Hospital. They beleave he may have had a minor heart attack and a possible blood clot. Still running test's as I type. Will keep you posted on his progress, please keep him in your thoughts. Thanks, Capt.ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Started out the first 2 drifts this morning with a handfull of keepers and some shorts...got way too crowded and we had to leave the area. Bounced around most of the day looking for a decent bite, only found a pick of fish in the channels at the change of tide. Came back to the bay where Don Sudol landed the pool fish at just under 6 pounds. High hook was Eric with his 3 nice keepers. Bigger fish finally showing with the best of the action on the bucktails and spro setups...Capt.ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Finally a day to talk about! Blew the whistle for the first drift, John Froelich hits a 4 pounder on the head...first 4 fish in the boat were keepers with a bunch of 17 inch fish right behind them. John went on to limit out by 9:55 AM!!! 6 beautifull fish in the box all 3 1/2 to 5 1/2 pounds (and I have the pic to prove it). Matt Riesz and Chris Utz gave a fishing leason in the bow, fishing with a bucktail and spro setup, non-stop all day for them. Together they put 12 beauties in the cooler, including Chris's 6 3/4 pound pool fish. Check out Chris's pic, I could have said that sucker was 9 pounds and got away with it!!!! Fish hit the bait as well, but no where near the action as the bucktailers, plus ALL the big fish were on the jigs.....Have to mention my buddy Vinnie who lost a nice fish at the whistle, sucker came up, took a look and spit the hook!! Sorry Vin........Capt.ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Sailed today with 4 very good customers as the weatherman screwed me again!! Took a bus mans holiday and glad we did....Worked the bay most of the morning picking away at shorts and keepers. Tommy Krako and Eric caught thier limit on fish up to 5 pounds. I finally got to enjoy a day and toss a line myself, almost forgot what it was like to fish. Landed 4 nice keepers by 11:00am along with a whole bunch of shorts, got too hot in the sun so I threw in the towel and headed for the AC!! Great day on the water after yesterdays hack!!! Capt.Ron

07/29/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
What a miserable day for July!! Started out in the fog with O.K. conditions and a drift in the ocean. Picked a couple of fish with a keeper or two. When the tide changed (incoming), on came the SE wind!!! Naturally we only stayed for one drift as it got way too fast. Bounced around the knoll and back in the bay to die a slow death!! Feel like I ate a huge Sh*** sandwich and the taste just won't go away!! West winds by the weekend, hopefully will change things around.....Capt.ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Finally a good day of fishing after a rough start to the morning.... Had a nice pick going on the end of the outgoing when one of the guys got pretty ill, ran him into the C. G. and just heard all is well. Came back out and already had the change of tide, picked up where we left off, with good action the rest of the day. Bert Saum and the boys from his fishing club had a good day landing several nice fish. Pool fish went to Jack Tee at 5 pounds, he also had 3 nice Sea Bass and 4 keeper Fluke. Much nicer in the ocean than on land today!! Capt.Ron

07/27/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Started out the day catching the change of tide in SH Channel, caught a few small fish, no keepers. Made another drop closer to the knoll, NG. Fished in on the beach, NG. Decided to run down the beach and fish some snags and rough bottom. Caught a bunch of Sea Bass and all short Fluke...still not a keeper by 12:00pm!! Got a call from Capt.George who had a pick back up in the channel....blasted off once again to catch the end of the tide. First fish, a 5 pounder for the pool. Had a few more keepers and some shorts to finish out the day...amazing how we fished that area for 4 days without a bite and today I don't go there and a few were hungry!!!! Go figure! Capt.Ron

07/24/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Reports for the past week could be summed up in one word "CRAP"!! We have fished all channels, humps and bumps, the beach, all parts of the bay, battled wind against the tide, a new moon that brought tides so high it tore off my rub rail!! Too much and not enough current, to come up with a handfull of keepers and some shorts each day. Can't remember in 32 years having to work so hard for so little, yet we have been allocated more poundage for next season. Does this mean the size is going to go down? Will our season be extended past Labor day? Hell, they could give us 5 million pounds what good is it if things stay status quo? Someone posted Truth in reporting, it doesn't get any more truthfull than this. 25 to 30 keepers is a great day today, how about the 100 fish that go back that are 16 to 17 3/4 inches, if they were in the cooler, THAT would be a true Banner day!!! I would never take away hope, and I hope each day we sail that I can post great catches with happy customers in pics with thier catch. We give it 110 percent everyday, regardless of what comes our way.......Just another rant from Capt. Ron Thanks for reading!!!

07/17/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Best day of the season for us so far with the keepers. Morning started out slow with the last of the outgoing and not much drift. Bounced around a couple area's looking for a bite. Nothing really happend till the change when we had a perfect drift. Worked the throtles all day holding the right depth. Tom Krako lead the way with his limit and then some using a bucktail and spro setup. Capt. Ron Sr. had 5 followed by Birthday boy Rocco's 4 and the pool fish!! Patience paid off today waiting for the bite....Capt.ron

07/16/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Weather report for today hurt us again with the customers, yet, it was a beautifull day on the water for those who did come down!! Had the last of the outgoing tide and a slider with the SW breeze in the AM. Still managed to pick at the shorts and a few keepers. Had our largest of the day in the morning with Lee Dourocher landing a very nice 7 3/4 pounder for the pool. "Dandy" Don redemed himself (after getting skunked yesterday) to come back today with 4 keepers. Tom Kracko also had 3 in the box. Tried Ambrose, NG. Fished down the beach but the roll from last nights offshore blow put the kibash to that..just a couple keepers and some shorts. Finished up on the Reach with one last shot of fish to end the day.....Capt.Ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Yesterdays Charter with Mike Schwartz and the folks from Weichert reality couldn't have had worse conditions! Wind against the tide all day made it tough to say the least. Had some keepers and a handfull of shorts, not enough to make me happy though. Todays trip with Anthony Amiano and Buildings and Grounds faired much better, but only after the change of tide and wind! Finally had a decent drift with the incoming when the wind went South. Fished the Ocean on some 25 minute drifts with action the whole way. Frank Putillo Sr. had the pool fish along with Frank Junior showing his mentor how to do it, catching 4 keepers and 16 shorts! Great two days on the water with some very nice people...Capt.ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Been pretty much the same story the past few days..We've covered many area's including all channels, reef, beaches, snags and wrecks looking for the perfect bite or hidden pile of keeper fluke. Most area's produce on the shorts, some places better than others with a mix of keepers each day. Today we had out Jimmy Learn and the boys from local 164 retirees. Ken Terhune took the big money with a very nice 6 pound fish, followed by Jason Schneider's second place fish at 4 1/2 pounds. Bob Collins was high hook with 3 keepers. A couple shots at Sea Bass and short fish for the action. Beautifull day on the water. Chartered Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Thanks, Capt.ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Wouldn't call todays fishing good by any means, don't care how many shorts came up or what the total KEEPER number was. The first couple drifts were the best with a few very nice size fish. Tom Krako put 3 in the cooler and was High hook. Pool fish at 5 pounds. Wind against the tide after the change made it a futile attempt at putting any numbers together. Fished Amrose for a while with only a couple shorts and a keeper....big dissapointment after the fishing there 3 days ago!! I'm sure the easterly flow, once again isn't going to help... In my own opinion, I don't see a new shot of big fish coming into the bay, normally from here on out these fish are actually getting ready to leave from the back bays.....how many 10 pounders caught this season??? The upcoming Fluke tournaments should be interesting. Blues Friday night 7:30pm Saturday and Sunday Afternoon 3:30pm till 9:30pm. Chartered Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week...thanks, Capt.ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Morning was a slow start waiting for the change of tide, just a few shorts and an odd keeper. Took awhile to get the ride conditions, but had good fishing once we did. The shorts out numbered the keepers once again, still, very nice action. Lou Ciavatti had the pool fish at 5 1/2 pounds. Very nice day on the water and we beat the thunderstorms home... Sailing Friday night for Blues 7:30pm till 1:30 AM and Saturday and Sunday 3:30 till 9:30pm. Chartered next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday...Thanks, Capt.Ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Had a good 2 hours of fishing this morning on quality fish! Eric was the high hook with 4 up to 6 3/4 pounds. Shrimpman had 3 along with Lynn and Rocco. Several fish 3 to 5 pounds and not many shorts. The afternoon was tough as the current ran way too hard, picked at some shorts and an odd keeper, and a few nice sea bass. Great day on the water. Capt.Frank is out this afternoon in search of some Bass and Blues...seems the bluefish have gone into thier normal July blight. Hopefully that will pick up after the moon.....Chartered Monday morning.

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Stayed local today and glad we did. Had a light crowd with the holiday weekend. With the Current and wind together, we were very limited to where we could fish and hold bottom. Stayed in the bay with plenty of action on shorts and some very nice keepers. Couple guys had 15 to 20 fish with the shorts going back and an average of 3 keepers in the cooler. Youngsters, Mathew, Liam and Kevin combined for 6 nice fish between them. Sailing for blues Sunday afternoon 3:30pm (NOT) 7:30pm as listed in the paper!!! Chartered Monday morning. Thanks...Capt.ron Couple good pics of the future hard core fishermen!!

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Today's plan "A" went out the window when an Easterly breeze came up on the way out....with wind against the tide and no drift, the bay was out!!!! Fished the outgoing current in the channels and picked at the shorts. The roll got bigger as the tide ran harder so that was out. Fished the knoll for a few drifts, had some nice keepers along with short fish. Back to the ocean for the change of tide, NG. Ended the day playing catch and release on way too many 17 inch fish....Seriously starting to think about a Sushi bar on the boat!! Capt.ron

07/01/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Very tough conditions once again, from no drift, to too much drift then back to no drift but the current running crazy!! Picked at the shorts and had a couple shots of keepers. The drift of the day had 7 keepers, when we tried to repeat it, NG. Bob Schlink Bucks County PA had the pool fish at 6 pounds. He and Jim Bahr combined for 5 nice keepers. Mitch and Billy also ended the day with 5 in the cooler. Way more shorts than keepers today..... Fireworks Cruises on Friday and Saturday so the afternoon trips are off. Chartered on Monday morning.

06/29/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Conditions couldn't have been worse for most of the day. Tried to fish the channels but with the outgoing on top and hard incoming underneath, plus a NW wind, we couldn't hold with 20 ounces!!! Tried the shallower water caught a few shorts and a couple keepers, not enough to do battle with the elements. Fished the beach with a perfect drift, just not many fish. Started back at the begining to end the day. Found a very nice 8 1/2 pounder for the pool, Doc Keith had a 4 1/2, Major John at the whistle landed a 3 1/2 pounder. High hook was Vinny C with 4 quality keepers. Still, the fishing was like dying a slow death as said by Capt. George!!

Once again, my yearly rant about bringing the right tackle... Fishing deep water, fast current, crappy conditions isn't going to make it with a noodle rod or anything that bends in half with an 8 to 12 ounce sinker! These fish aren't stupid, by the time you come back to set the hook and take the bend out of the rod, the fish is gone! That's how they got to be big in the first place.. Unfortunatly we are forced to target BIG fish and as you know anything 18 inches and over is a Big fish in todays scheme of things. If you like to fish light tackle, that has it's place and time and is the way to go when conditions warrant it, but why not be preparred when the current is running 2 knots and you need the weight? It's still fishing, maybe not bucktailing with stingers and all kinds of other crap, just good ole fishing, the proper way! I watched a customer's ugly stick with 10 ounces of weight today bend completly in half as he lifted to check for a bite....shoot me..these aren't suicide Fluke!!! We fish where we have to and do what we have to do to try and produce, if you listen and do the right thing, you WILL catch fish...Thanks! Capt.ron

06/28/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Some patience paid off today waiting for the right conditions.... Started out with guys using 12 ounces to hold bottom. The Current on top was still running out while on the bottom it was running in (Hard)!! When all got right, the bite was on! Much easier to fish with a light crowd (unfortunatly for me) than a gang of people, so we could drift one side and keep the customers out of tangles. New Big Pool leader and the first double digit fish in the Harbor with Jack Butler, Perth Amboy landing a very nice 10.8 pound beauty! Fish looked like 14pounds to me after so many 17 inchers!! Jerry Krako had his limit with 6 quality fish along with a couple customers with 3 and 5 keepers. A nice Striper added to the mix kept everyone on thier toes. Amazing what the right conditions will do for you, especially after yesterday when I wanted to kick the dog!!!!!!! Capt. Frank went to the SLAUGHTER, MASSACRE, EPIC FISHING grounds last night and caught CRAP!! Terrible first night of Blue fishing even after the HOT reports from the day boats...........Capt.ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Had Ed Colantoni and the Picatinny Fishing club out with us today on a Charter. Best Fluke fishing for us so far this season with over 20 keepers on the first drift. Plenty of action throughout the morning and once again, when the tide changed, the bite was over. Good thing it was almost the end of the trip, so it wasn't so bad.... Frank Chan, Parsippany landed our biggest to date at 8 1/2 pounds taking the groups pool money! Nice day on the water with a great group of guys and girls. Bluefishing tonight and tomorrow 7:30pm and Sunday Afternoon 3:30 till 9:30pm. Capt.Ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Made a last minute decision to fish a new area this morning as the current was running hard on the incoming, glad we did! Had action with keepers and shorts for a couple of hours.. Fished the channels for the change, had good action again until the SE came up on the outgoing and shut the bite down. Finished up in the bay and like yesterday, stroked it for the last hour!!! Tom Krako had the big one at 5 1/2 pounds and now leads our Big Pool. I think if the Party boats were smart, we all would have gotten together and had a pool for the first 10 pounder in the harbor, big bucks attract big crowds...but who am I!! Got an E mail asking if the Fishermen had GONE UNDER because I missed a couple days of reports!!! Why not pick up the phone and call if your that concerned? I think I'll be here for a while........... Chartered Friday AM....Sailing 7:30pm for Blues Friday and Saturday. Capt.Ron

06/17/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Picked away in the AM on mostly shorts, but we did manage some keepers. Had a nice 6 pounder for the pool . Finally caught some fish in the ocean now that the swell of last week has gone. Bite didn't last long as the current started to rip at 2 1/2 knots. Finished up in the bay with not much of action toward the end of the day. Chartered this Friday AM. We begin sailing for Blues this Friday and Saturday, new sailing time 7:30pm till 1:30am and Sunday afternoon 3:30pm till 9:30pm. Thanks, Capt.ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Had a Fluke Charter today with Bob Miller and crew. Bob celebrating his 51st birthday...Wind against started the morning out with only a couple of fish. Naturally, when the tide did change, we drifted at 2 1/2 knots on the incoming and SE wind. Very limited to where we could fish. The ocean was out, the knoll was too fast, so the bay it was. The group did end up with some very nice keepers from 3 1/2 to 6 pounds on the big one. High hook had 4 and not a whole lot of shorts for any amount of action. I'm sure this easterly flow is not helping with the water temps and cutting out several good area's we normally fish. Gotta get back to normal soon, I hope!! Fluke fishing everyday now. Capt.ron

06/15/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Gave it one last shot on the Striper's today...Searched all points of the compass and only managed 2 fish (both caught by the same guy)! Plenty of bait, read some life, just not many takers. Ended the day with some jig fish in the channel...Will be tied up the next two days, then it's on to Fluke fishing. Gerry Krakow had the Big Pool Winning Striper this season at 25 pounds. Our largest this spring was 31 pounds followed by a 29 1/2, neither one was in the big pool. Fluke fishing from Thursday on, 3/4 day. Afternoon fishing for Blues and Bass 3:30pm till 9:30pm. The new schedule will be posted next week for the afternoon fishing. Thanks, Capt.ron

06/14/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Had very good action this weekend on the Fluke. Way more shorts than keepers but the wiggle on the end of the line kept the customers happy...Gonna search for the Bass on Monday. We will be tied up Tuesday and Wednesday for maintenance. Weather sounds lousy for Tuesday anyway...If we don't find a bass bite, it will be Fluke fishing from Friday on. Will keep you posted daily. Capt.Ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Good group of guys today. All read the reports, all have seen the pics. Unfortunately the bite was nowhere to be found! East, South, Up to the North, NG! Only saw 1 pod of bunker at the end of the day around Romar, not much bait life anywhere. No jig fish, no bite offs on the blues.... Gonna take a two day break and go Fluking with our Charters Saturday and Sunday morning. Just an early heads up...we will not be sailing Tuesday and Wednesday this week, have to do an engine tune up. Thanks, Capt.Ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Another dismal morning and day for that matter...Had a couple fish on within minutes, a keeper and a couple of shorts then it was lights out! Looked over several area's but the horrible conditions (ESE wind against the outgoing) made it impossible to find a bite. The day only got uglier as it went on. Not one to throw in the towel, but I was glad when it was over!!! Capt.ron

06/10/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Another dismal morning on the weather front, but the regs came down anyway. Took all day to put a catch together, a lot of bouncing around, but a quality catch it was.....size's ranged from small shorts to several in 20 pound category. Jimmy Finn, Oakland N.J. had his limit plus a "just under" 30 pounder for the pool at 29 1/2 pounds. Capt. Ron Sr. landed 3 beauties once again and had the regs shaking their heads!! After a month and a half of E mails and should been here yesterday's, Kyle the (PA Monger, on this sight) finally made it out!! Both he and his Dad landed 2 very nice fish. Way too many fish lost because of drag settings or guys panicking and starting to reel as the fish made their first run....Relax, let the fish go, they have to stop sometime, then start reeling them in. Gonna start taping Thumbs to index fingers as of tomorrow!!! Enjoy the pics...Capt.Ron

Only a handfull of customers showed today with the lousy forecast. I myself thought the end of the world was near when we were heading out. Sky got totally black, Thunder and lightning then the rain..... It did back off as we set up on the Anchor and it actually ended up a nice day. Picked fish in the AM, the keepers were just that and shorts were way short. Not a hot bite, but a pick for a couple hours. Lost the current and had to go searching. Tried a new area in the afternoon only to find dogfish and 17 to 19 inch bass. Joe longo had a couple short fish and the huge one for the pool! Capt.Ron Sr. gave his usual fishing leasons with a couple keepers and way too many shorts. Will see what tomorrow brings. Chartered Friday Afternoon and Saturday & Sunday morning this week. Capt.ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Very tough fishing today too say the least. Picked a fish here and there. A handfull of keepers and a few shorts. Never really got the current, saw the fish swirling on top we tried tossing everything at them but not many takers. With all the bait around I'm sure the bite isn't over yet, hang in there, still some good fishing ahead!! Capt.ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Saturday AM we had the crew from Quick Response..Had a shot of Nice keepers, despite the parking lot, and that was it!! Way too much traffic for such a small area..Capt. Frank went back out in the afternoon to the same area, had a nice bite and ended up with 18 keepers up to 22 pounds! Several shorts at 27 inches so the action was much better than what we had in the morning. Today we had another Charter with the Richard Wedinger crew...barely could find a parking spot by the time we got there, spent an hour and a half trying to catch at least one Bass for the group, NG! Went Fluking and had non-stop action for the rest of the day. Not a whole lot of keepers, but to put smiles on the peoples faces made it worth it! Capt. Frank is back out this afternoon, let's see if the bite turns on for him. Bunkers everywhere you go. Out East, In the Bay, down the beach for miles, maybe these babies are STUFFED!!! And the Full Moon is a good excuse also...capt.ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
With the anticipation of a Nasty day and an almost guaranteed bite, the customers came out today, despite the forecast of rain and wind. From past post's, today should have been a banner day, only one problem, when the tide started to run out, it got NASTY! Anchored up and had fish on right away, lines were already running to the bow with the outgoing and East wind. Myself and the crew kept tossing the customers out and working their lines knowing the end was near! We boated a bunch of keepers and way to many 27 inch fish in the first hour. After that it was PUKE and move! Made several drops on great readings only to move and find the fish laying in front of the boat! Worst conditions I have seen in a long time. Between the rain, wind and swinging of the boat, it was almost impossible to put a great catch together. Still had some nice keepers and good action while it lasted..Tommy Krakow finally got rid of the skunk and landed 2 nice keepers, just missing the pool and feeling reborn again!! Chartered this weekend Saturday and Sunday morning. Afternoons with Capt. Frank at 3:PM are available.....Capt. Ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Another nice catch today, but not the crazy bite of yesterday..... Came back on the anchor and had 4 on before I could get out of the wheelhouse! Picked a couple more then they dissapeared! Made a little wiggle, caught a few more. It was like that most of the morning till the change of tide. Unlike yesterday, slack into the change didn't produce. We moved to another area but by then the bite was over. Some smaller fish that looked like they had been eating for a week, very fat!! More long males and not many females also... Still a good day of Striper fishing. East 10 to 15 tomorrow should do the trick!!! Capt. Ron Chartered Saturday and Sunday morning.

4 nice fish

2 nice keepers

06/3/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Started out the morning just like the past 4, only 1 keeper and 1 short with no other bites for 2 1/2 hours...Just at slack into the incoming, out of no where, the fish turned on!! Had fishing like last Friday with many fish going into the 20 pound range. Pool fish made 28! Justin and the PA guys landed 15 keepers between them with Tommy loosing one close to 40 pounds under the boat!! Many limits and then some....Jerry Krako, who leads the big pool landed another 24 pounder plus 3 more. Butch Valentine (Chief) also had 4 beauties. After 4 days of torture, today I feel like a new man! Didn't have to stop at the buy right on the way home!! Capt.ron (Chartered Saturday and Sunday morning.)

When it's good, it's great and when it's bad, it's UGLY! Couldn't find a bite on either tide today. Covered many miles and found 1 lonely fish, it wasn't even a keeper....The blues didn't bite either....Many guys back today who were out last week, if they couldn't beleave it, imagine how I feel!!! Capt.ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Had a pick of fish in the AM, shorts and a few keepers but the bite didn't last long. Took a ride and my buddy Sal hooked me up with some fresh bait...Jim Tobak thanks you as he landed today's pool fish at 22 pounds! Had another fish at 20 and a handfull of keepers. Biggest Bluefish I've seen in a long time also...Current ran to the South all day even though the incoming started at 9:00am, go figure! Anchor Joe got the skunk off with a keeper and birthday boy Andy (50 again) was way too jumpy on the hook set..patience andy!! Nice day on the water, just wish the bite had been better...capt.ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Another very tough day to say the least! Covered all bases looking for a bite with not much too be had. Good current after the change didn't help either. Jerry Krakow, who was on hiatus for a couple weeks came back today and took everyones money with the pool fish. A couple keepers that just made it and a couple shorts. Hero to zero once again!!! Capt.Frank had a tough time last night also with just a few fish, same on Friday's afternoon. Capt.Ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Beautifull day, LOTS OF SUN, FLAT CALM, all the great things I talk about for Striper fishing!! I could end right here and you'd know the story.....Had Roched Diagnostics out with us on a Charter. Last of the outgoing then into slack, so it took a while for some current. Bite didn't turn on for any part of the tide. We did manage 7 nice keepers, a couple fluke and an odd bluefish on several drops. Loads of bunkers comming into the bay yesterday, will see what today brings, gonna give it hell!! Capt.ron

05/29/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Once again, the customers who read my reports and listen to my rants about nasty weather came out today, and all are glad they did!! Just about everyone who boarded today said they have been reading the post's and had to see for themselves....Many limits on an all day bite with fish up to 31 pounds!! Weather actually got nice once we were on the grounds. Paul Lubranno had the pool fish at 23 pounds and his 3 fish limit. Capt.Ron Sr. had the fish of the season so far at 31 Pounds!! Chuck Black, Nazareth PA. lead the way with 6 great fish....Several guys had 3 to 5 would be keepers! Most consistant fishing I have seen for the Spring in a couple years...We will Bass fish as long as the bite keeps up. Last season we made it till the end of June. I love to Fluke fish, but Bass is boss in my book!! Sorry but we are Chartered Saturday Morning....Capt. Frank is out this afternoon, waiting to hear some good news for the few that showed up. Capt.Ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Once again, the crappy weather was our friend! Started the morning drifting with perfect conditions. Boated 10 of the biggest bass of the season...set up on the anchor only to move twice to find the right bite. When it came, it was game on!! All quality, healthy and fat fish today. Limited out the boat with several fish over 20 pounds. Noel Terranova had the pool fish at 24 1/2 pounds along with his limit and bonus fish. Just a note: We do not supply bonus tags, my personal choice, however, if a customer has one, I certainly don't tell them they can't use it. Many fish, large and small still have row and we are now starting to see the males. Long lean, hard fighting fish. Much better action compared to what we had last season....gotta love the nasty weather!!! Please don't wait till it's 90, sunny, and flat calm to come fishing...you probably will catch crap!! Capt.ron

Captain Ron Santee reports:
Just a dozen regulars braved the weather today, and I'm sure there glad they did...First drop produced a keeper and a short, wasn't happy where I was so we made a little wiggle to some new bottom......Fish on right away with shots of 3 and 4 at a time!! Loads of 27 inchers, but limited the boat out with keepers. Chief Valentine had the hot hand today landing 6 would be keepers! Bite lasted into slack. After the change, it got a little sporty to say the least with the swell and wind against the tide. Bite never came back on the outgoing, didn't matter as we had ours! Scott Scudieri added a big Knuckle head Sea Bass to his catch and Big Ed got the pool with a nice 18 pounder.....Capt. Ron Chartered this Saturday morning..

05/25/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
They say third times a charm, today proved it right!! After a very tough weekend both day and afternoon fishing, things improved greatly for us this fine day....Had fish on 3 minutes after the chum hit the water. Last of the incoming was hot, wish we could have had another hour but the change was near....Made a move after the change, picked some more fish then it died again. Went searching once more and glad we did, came back on the anchor and had 4 on immediatly. Pick was nice until Capt. Jim ran right across my stern hooked up..never had another bite after that, Thanks....CAPTAIN?? CAPTAIN RON

05/23/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Great group of guys on board today for their annual SKANSKA fishing trip. After yesterday thought a dozen nice fish when conditions got right wouldn't be a problem, man was I wrong! Tide changed (outgoing).... on came a SE breeze against, you can imagine the horror as the tide only ran harder and the breeze turned into WIND! Didn't matter where we went, conditions and lack of a bite, even on the bluefish, made it one of the worst trips so far this season! Will give it hell tomorrow....capt.ron

05/22/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Much better fishing today as the current didn't scream like the past two days! Nice slow pick with a shot of 2 to 3 on at times. High hook ended up with 4 keepers. 10 year old Markez Zappa landed 3 keepers and the pool fish at 24 pounds!!! (check out the pic) it's priceless!! Couple fish over 20 pounds again today, unlike yesterday where they all seemed to be right at that 27 inch mark. Roy removed the "side kick" thing as he had a nice keeper, taking Linda outta her game. Doc, Tom, Joe, Chris and son landed dinner. Great day on the water. Capt. Frank is out this afternoon, so far the fishing is NG!! Chartered in the AM. Capt.ron

05/21/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Not good fishing today as the outgoing ran even harder than yesterday... Made several moves to new area's, found lot's of bait, just no takers on the bass. Came back for the Magical change of tide bite that turned into a mess of 27 inch fish going back. The one bright spot was Shimpman Steve catching his limit with a couple of shorts...and Yes, he did win the pool! Can't find a Hat big enough for the man this year! No pics tonight as the keepers were just that..on the money 28 inchers!! Seems the body of nice fish we had the past 5 days moved on to new territory..have to get into search mode tomorrow!! Capt.ron Chartered Saturday morning...

05/20/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
With all the good reports and Pics of the past couple days, customers came out of the wood work today! Nothing like a little added pressure to keep you on your game. Naturally, the first drop had the current running so hard, 8 ounces were a problem and the bite was non-existent! Made a move for better conditions only to find NO-CURRENT at all! Got out of thier fast. Drifted for a bit only to catch a couple blues and a few short bass. Went back on the anchor and just had to tough it out waiting for the change of tide. Picked away on some nice fish. After the change we had a shot of Quality keepers including first timer this season, Mitch Jevics 3 keepers from 15 to 20 lbs! Birthday boy Kevin (from nj news) and fishing partner Bill combined for 6 keepers plus a few shorts. "Big Bob" Got his 2 keepers including the pool fish at 22 pounds.... Pretty much the same fishing as yesteday, but way too many customers going home without dinner...New Moon in 4 days, can't understand why so much current the past 2 days, it's always something!!! Capt.ron

05/19/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Some very good bird life this morning to start out...made a couple drifts and had a few fish right away. Wanted to get set up on the Anchor before we lost the tide..from there is was just a one, two pick the rest of the day. Got spoiled from the last 5 days, but don't get me wrong, we still had a nice catch with a few 20 plus pounders again. Dan Wistuk landed 3 keepers along with Billy Horns 2 that included a 23 pounder for the pool. Couple other limits and a few guys with none. Had a decent shot just at the change of tide, then it was back to a one one pick...Great day on the water!!! Chartered this Saturday Morning....Capt.ron

05/17/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Fog yesterday, heavy duty wind today!! Battled some pretty tough conditions but still managed a decent catch of Stripers. Couple in the 20 plus range including Tom Krakow's 21 and the pool fish caught by 11 year old Birthday boy Patrick Mculla, 26 pounds. Lost one at the boat even bigger when the old power pro cut the sucker off!! A few more smaller fish in the mix also.....Incoming tide was the best once the current ran hard.....Capt.Ron

05/16/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Pea soup fog all day, absolutely amazed at the small boats with no radar. Saw one that actually was an 18ft rowboat with 2 kids and NO LIFE JACKETS!!! Guy should be put in jail.....Made our way to the fleet and a parking spot, last of the outgoing, NG. After the long wait for the tide yesterday, decided to get the hell outta there...Took a ride down the beach, found some life and picked away the rest of the day. Couple guys ended the day with 4 nice fish, some 2 or 3 and a bunch with none. Current did run hard after the change, but we had fish up to the bow....Naturally when we got to the dock, it was perfect, the Sun was out, it was warm and my eyes were bugging outta my head!!! Capt.Ron

05/15/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Didn't have an AM bite like yesterday. Got out there waited and waited for some incoming. Just a couple fish. Didn't look like it was going to happen so we took of in search mode, glad we did. Found some fish swirling on top with just a couple birds on them, went into a drift and had a shot of 7 fish, all beauties!! Tried to anchor and keep them close to the boat but no good, back on the drift searching in the fog. Ended the day with a very nice catch of fat Stripers..... Couple first time Bass fishermen were the stars today with Linda Shinn leading the way with 4 keepers...certainly putting her side kick to shame! Nick Kotevski had his first keepers plus the pool fish at 16 pounds. Tommy Krakow also had 3 nice fish in the box. Fireman Joe Raymond and Son combined for 4 keepers also. Glad todays plan "B" worked out. Capt. Frank is out this afternoon, haven't heard from him yet....We are Chartered for tomorrow afternoons 3:PM trip. Capt.Ron

05/14/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
As past post's have said..you gotta fish the nasty days..today proved it once again!!! South 25, thank god we had incoming tide and that was bad enough! Fish were hungry in the AM then took a break half way through the tide. Made a couple moves and caught 1 fish on each as soon as we came back on the anchor. Just at the change we made our last move and had 25 minutes of excellant fishing!! One of the customers who only had a bite off all day landed 5 fish (2 keepers) in 15 minutes! Change of tide bite..... Don't let the weatherman scare you into coming only when it's Sunny and 70 degrees, as Today proved that theory wrong!! Many of the bigger fish today were spawned out, which tells me, it can only get better. A new shot of big fish, then the males coming up the beach...hope it blows like hell tomorrow!!!!!! Capt.ron

05/13/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Can't call what we've had the past 3 days "Good Fishing". Today the action was a bit better than it's been, but the Blues made the differance. Had a couple keeper bass, nothing to brag about, and the bluefish for some action. Sounds like a new body of fish are making thier way up the beach, that and the fact that all those fat females are most likely spawing should have things back to normal by next week. Same situation last season, we had that lull and on the 16th of May, all hell broke loose!! Just have to tough it out and pay our dues for the next couple of days....Capt.ron

05/11/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
No pats on the back, no great job Cap, your the man or any of that other stuff today!!! Didn't sweat the non bite on the incoming only because of the hot bite on the outgoing yesterday. Bounced around a few area's waiting for the right conditions, when it came, the bite didn't!! Covered way too many miles searching only to come up with a couple of fish...even the blues didn't co-operate. Finally, a good crowd of customers all chompin at the bit after the reports and pics from the past week, only to face the worst day of the season!! A must, 3 Scotch day!!! Capt.ron

05/10/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Pretty crappie conditions to start out the morning with the incoming and hard NW wind. Still managed to pick at the Bass with all but one fish being a keeper! Bite slowed as the tide eased off, but with the swinging of the boat and the roll we decided to kill some time and look over a new area. Ran South a bit, fished a piece of bottom I thought would have some fish by now, caught 2 nice Blackfish, one 9 pounds the other 5 1/2, tossed both egg bearing Moms back and headed North for the change of tide. Glad we did! Very good bite the rest of the day with Tom Krako, Mark, Al and the Shrimpman leading the way with multiple fish! June Benson finally took the guys money with a very nice 15 pound bass...Some Great pics for todays post! Wish the two brothers who drove all this way didn't go home, they missed a good bite. Capt. Ron

05/09/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
I've said it a thousand times "One day a hero, next day a bum"!! Today proved it once again. Zigzagged our way out through the fog and countless boats this morning only to find a desert!! Had the last of the incoming and caught 1 keeper. Made a shift at the change hoping the bite would turn on like yesterday. Had a shot of 3 fish and figured we were in...no such luck! Waited till the current ran hard, NG. Left the area to search the next desert. A couple blues, couple keepers on 3 drops, Ng. Finished the day back up to the North with a half dozen shorts. Had to know with the weekend crowd, a good bite for 5 days, that this would happen. Ended up with a handful of keepers, some blues and probably a whole bunch of disappointed customers....no more than me though! Mike Reynolds was the only real bright spot today as he celebrated his 15th birthday by winning the pool with a nice 14 pound fish! Mike fished with us a couple years ago with his Dad, when he could barley see over the rail and had a great day. I think he is now hooked!! Capt.ron

05/08/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
The bite continued today....Fish bit through slack and into the outgoing. Lots of limits and then some with Laura Varjassy leading the way with 7 keepers, 3shorts and a Fluke! She also won the pool with a nice 16 pound Bass. Tom Krako kept the stern on thier toes landing 5 nice fish. The only sad part is most of the fish, even the smaller ones are loaded with row. Beautifull day on the water and I would expect tomorrow to be a parking lot!!!

05/07/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Weatherman got it wrong again today!! Rain stopped early and it certainly didn't blow 25 out of the South! For the few that showed up, it was non-stop action! Biggest fish of the season so far with Roger Johns landing a very nice 28 pounder...Even got to enjoy the company and toss a line myself. Very nice spread of fish this spring, unlike last season where we fished and searched a new spot everyday. It's also sad to see no-one taking advantage of the great ling fishing going on....wish I could get out there myself, it's been years since I've seen that fishery so abundant! Weather looks great for tomorrow, light NW wind, just hope the full moon doesn't screw things up.....Capt.Ron

05/04/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Very good morning bite today...more keepers than shorts. When the tide was just about finished, so was the bite. Took a bit of a ride trying to find some incoming, glad we did. Anchored the boat and had fish on right away, with the larger fish of the day coming aboard...Several limits and then some for the Monday Regs. including, Hammer, Reel Jester, Rocco, Bill Horn (who had the big one) at 16 pounds, Cory and his Dad from PA. Once again the weather is killing us as the Prowler and myself were the only boats out of just about anywhere today!!! Fishing is good, weather stinks...a great time to fish!!! capt.ron

05/03/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Had a one, one pick most of the day...Finally had a shot of 5 fish after the change, thought the mad bite was on. Waited 15 minutes then back to a one one pick. Stayed with it and ended the day with some nice quality keepers. Couple guys had thier limit, including Shrimpman Steve (yes, Shimpman) got the skunk off early this season, 2 keepers and 4 shorts. Unlike last year when his first keeper came in NOVEMBER! Cold and Rain didn't make the day any better. Last of the outgoing was a bust for us this morning, incoming produced the totall catch for the day..Capt.ron

05/02/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Started out the morning with a slow pick on the last of the incoming, just about all keepers. Made a short move to get in better position but the bite died with the tide. Didn't want to waste too much time waiting for the outgoing so we took a ride looking for some better life. Found some decent readings, had a slow pick with not much current. New the bite would turn on once the tide ran as the fish we were catching had the hooks way down..they were hungry!! Had shots of 2 to 4 on at a time the rest of the day. Not the hot bite of yesterday, but good spring bassin!!! Capt.Ron

05/01/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
As I made comment yesterday in regard to weather...the nastier, the better, today proved it and then some.....Nasty SW wind with a swell had us rolling our crueler off all day!! Certainly didn't bother the fish though as they bit thier tails off! Action right from the start with a little lull during the change, once the curent started to run again, the bite was on. Limited the boat for the second day in a row on fish to 16 pounds...too bad the weather man kept many of the customers home. For the ones who did show, it was a banner day! Capt.ron

04/30/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Very good morning bite today! Had fish on soon as we came back on the anchor....Everyone went home with at least 2, some guys 3 with a bonus tag. Gerry Krako is the new Pool leader with a beautifull 25 pounder on the nose! Lost another as big or slightly bigger at the boat. Some blues mixed in for the second day in a row. Joe Longo, (who we skunked last week) gave us another shot today and more than made up for last weeks adventure!!! Bite died around 11, looked over 2 more drops but we had had the best of it by then....Great day on the water as the pics will tell it all!! Capt.ron

04/28/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Once again, can't call what we've had the past few days GOOD FISHING. Running all over the ocean and bay trying to find a decent bite. Not much in the way of bait or readings. The readings we did find, haven't produced. A couple keepers a couple shorts, the first bluefish of the season were caught today...Looking back at last season, the 4th of May was a banner day, the next day was crap!!! That seems to be the way it went for the month. Couldn't put 3 days of good fishing together. Hopefully that will change this season. I certainly don't see huge schools of bunker coming into the bay, the bait that was around last week has disappeared!!! Normal April to May transition, excited as hell one week, ready to shoot myself the next!! Ah, to be a Party boat Captain!!! Capt.ron

04/27/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Not what I would call good fishing, since Friday!! Can't blame the weekend traffic because today was an empty ocean and the bite was terrible. Had a couple keepers and some shorts, checked out several areas. Didn't read much in the way of bait, marked fish everytime we dropped but the bite didn't turn on. Finally got the outgoing, still read fish but NG. Many of the Monday regs were out along with some new faces including Joe longo, a regular contributer to this sight....(be gentle joe, it was painfull today)!! Capt. Frank had the best fishing of the weekend, Sunday afternoon with a light gang. Some very nice keepers and plenty of shorts. Thought it would have carried over to today being on the downside of the new moon....Hopefully tomorrows report will be better...Capt.ron

04/23/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Couldn't wait to get back out there today after yesterdays fishing....only one problem, the bite was nothing like YESTERDAY!!! Had to wait a bit for some current after the change, when it started to move we had a shot of fish, couple keepers and some shorts, thought the bite was on. Waited 30 minutes then had a few more shorts. Moved into shallower water and had another shot, it just didn't hold up. Took a ride to check out some old stompin grounds, read fish and again, had a couple shots where we boated a couple keepers and shorts. Bite never held up no matter where we went. The last hour and a half of the day was like watching paint dry!!! Mopar Charlie had the hot hand today boating 3 nice keepers with a couple shorts..Great weather ahead, should make all the differance for the next week. Afternoons start this week Friday, Saturday and Sunday 3:30pm till 9:30pm.....Capt.Ron

04/22/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Very good fishing right from the start today!! Had a couple on as we came back on the anchor, bite lasted till 12:00pm. Loads of smaller fish for the action with a good catch of keepers to 31 inches. Jersey boy Billy kept his 3 keepers with a bonus tag, a few others had thier 2. (Billy tried to send your pic, it didn't go through, call me with the address). Dad also had the hot hand with 6 that would have gone in the box. Tossed back a half dozen that had way too much row!!! Lou Ciavatti boated a very nice 5 pound tog too add to his catch also. Hopefully things will be good from here on!! Fishing the afternoons starting this weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Capt. Ron

04/19/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
"JOESKI" boated the first official keeper of the 2009 season today, 31 inch 15 pounder to take the lead in our Big Pool contest....Trust me, it was all downhill from there!! Made a few drops in the ocean, waited for the change of tide and still no good...ran to the back bay and found the bait again, just nothing feeding in it....didn't have the readings like yesterday either. Weather looks like crap for the next two days. With all the rain and runoff predicted, I'm sure it will be toward the end of the week before anything happens with the bite. Water still pretty cold, sinkers were like ice cubes. Afternoon fishing starts this weekend: Friday, Saturday and Sunday 3:30 till 9:30pm for Stripers. Capt. Ron

04/18/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Capt.Ron/Fishermen/1st Striper trip Not a good start for us today...fished the ocean for a bit with the last of the outgoing tide. Had 3 shorts, no keepers. Ran to the back bay, read loads of bait, some marks that were good enough to anchor on, but only a few small fish. Horrible conditions with the incoming running everything up to the bow...Good ole Chris did manage to catch 4 shorts and a least show us there were some fish around!! After yesterdays reports, thought today would be the day....hopefully tomorrow!! Capt.ron

04/07/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
Sorry all, but it looks like our start up is pushed up to Saturday the 18th. Still stuck in the ship yard for a few more days. The weather hasn't helped at all this spring!!! Will be sailing daily from then on, 7:30am till 2:30pm for Striped Bass. Afternoon trips will begin a couple weeks after that. Hope to see you soon....Capt.Ron

03/23/09
Captain Ron Santee reports:
After WAY too much time off, were looking to start fishing Saturday, April 11th for Stripers. Last season we started on the 4th only to be dissapointed by the cold water and lack of a bite. Hopefully within the next few weeks, the weather & water will warm up and give us a better start to the 2009 season!!! Can't Wait! Capt.Ron
