Specie: Striped Bass

Water Depth: 18'

Information : Well it was good to see the sun for a change. It appeared that all the boats in the water were out at Romer Shoal. It was pretty choppy and breezy and the action was slow. We managed 1 keeper bass which barely made the team at 24 1/2 "! The skates kept us busy also. When the clams ran out we bounced down to Shrewsbury where we caught nothing. Oh well, it was better than working and the ride back to Leonardo was much smoother than the ride down.

Information : The Striped Bass fishing has shown much improvement the past few days. Horrible weather with all the Northeast wind has kept most boats at the dock for the past two weeks. The past few days of good weather has the bass getting hungry! Fish have been bitting on Clams, just like in the spring. If you beleave they only hit eels and worms this time of year, sorry, but your wrong. Maybe in a few more weeks that may hold true but right now, it's clams.
We will start fishing 3/4 day 7:30 till 2:30 this Saturday for Stripers. We are just getting finished in the Ship Yard and will be back at port on Friday, ready for the weekend..hopefully we will have some decent weather and get a few good weeks out of the fishing. Hope to see you then. Capt. Ron

In between the bluefins they boated three yellowfins to 70 lbs and at one point we could see them in the slick but they were very selective and we had to go to light leaders. Fishing Method: Live lining
Specie: Bluefish
Size: 12-14
Bait or Lure: Bunker
Water Depth: 25-30
Water Temp.: 62.5
Information : Joe Q and I took a chance on the weather report. We left the Man inlet at 8am and headed north. The ocean was clean and clam with a 2 ft swell. The wind was light out of the SE. We trolled Shads in Spring Lake and found no fish. So we decided to follow the reports and tried our luck at the Shrewsbury Rocks. Again no fish and the weather started to turn. So, we headed south. Great move. We located a good size school of Bunker in 25 ft of water. The Blue were very aggressive. We had a difficult time getting a whole Bunker back to the boat. It didn't take long once we got the Bunker back in the water before the 12-14 lbs Blues found our baits. We lost count during the 1 1/2 hour runs. The icing on the cake was Joe's idea to drop some clams to the bottom. The clams produced a few Strippers to 36 ".

Information : Fished thursday night for bass in the manasquan, hooked up with a 30" bass at the change of the tide and released him due to the new regs, that was the only fish caught for the night. saw a lot of small fish breaking which looked like weakies. I hope the fall bass season turns on soon, with the new regs it will be hard to bring home dinner. I guess none of the politicians are fisherman because to be allowed to keep a 24" bass and not a 29,30,31,32,or33" fish is the dumbest thing I ever heard, we would all be alot better off with one fish 28" or bigger.

Information : Trolled the manasquan inlet area and the Farms with no luck. Moved up to 17 Fathom for a slow wet ride and found 6-8 pound bluefish. We made the cardinal mistake of leaving fish to find fish. There were no fish at the Shrewsberry Rocks in the afternoon. Also trolled for False Albacore with no luck. Smooth ride home with the wind at our back.

Water Depth: +700 Ft.

Information : Trolled the Hudson Canyon Saturday afternoon and could not find warm water/fish;drove to Hendrickson and caught two mahi on the way at a weed patch; set up for the night and found sporadic action with a small swordfish which we set free as it was below the minimum;around 5:00am started getting good marks and decided to try several large diamond jigs which promptly raised two yellowfins and we also picked up a longfin on the chunk. Headed home after a short troll alongside a scallop trawler where big bluefins were just gobbling up the trawler's catch debris but could manage only one runoff (thanks to the captain/crew of the Patience out of Bedford, Mass. for being very accomodating in trying to help hook us up).

Bait or Lure: bunker
Water Depth: 20-40
Water Temp.: 67
Information : I flew solo on Saturday on my 20'CC catamaran that I bought a few weeks ago. headed south and found bunker with 10-16lb. slammers feeding on them. Snagging & chunking was all it took. After fighting about 8 of these brutes I switched to jigging weaks along with the 4 Reelin'(Mom & Dad) and caught about a dozen with 3 keepers in less than an hour.
Sunday was a different story, my neighbor Jim & I found the bunker to the south again but the water was very dirty. Managed one 15lb blue there and moved north at noon & trolled 4 blues to 7lbs. before heading in. I have never seen so many boats run right through schools of fish, and across the back of boats trolling. If you're gonna spend the money on the boat to go fishing, spend some time reading and learn how.

Water Depth: 100 line to the 500 line
Water Temp.: found 73 deg
Information : Left BH at 1000 am, arrived at the warm water between the Hudson and the Toms at 130PM; started to troll. Within 30 min had a dolphin in the boat; continued to troll until dark with no hits. Water was perfect, blue, warm, weeds, flat as a lake, except no fish. Started our drift in the deep (500 line); nothing; moved to the 100 line at 1000PM and continued to start a new line. Nothing until 330AM when we caught a 45 lb long fin; then blue sharks, then a 5 ft sword fish was lost at the boat (would have thrown him back anyway). At first light we finally raised the tuna; caught 1 more long fin, 2 yellow fin and one more mahi. As soon as the sun moved up in the sky the fish went down. Trolled the Hudson all day and caught one more mahi. Hudson was cold 67 deg. Heard of the bluefin bight there after we were headed home. Was a great day, great boat, great crew; fishing was OK. Heard from my neighbor, who fished the Lindy on Thur/Fri, that they boated 18 YFT's to 85 lbs and all the mahi you could catch. Good luck.... tight lines..

Shortly thereafter we hooked up another bluefin which took over an hour before we could estimate its size and harpoon. It weighed 130 lbs. We hooked up another bluefin and after a short sizzling run it pulled the hook. Chris Destefano his brother Leo, Ed Donnelly, Harry and Steve Wilde and Bob Luce. Trolled early at the East Elbow and quickly released 3 bluefin. Got a call from a friend who had some nice water on the West wall around the 150. Ran to the spot and started to troll. Water was 71.8, clear blue with patches of weed. Saw some birds on a patch and sideswiped it. Got to close, picked up some weed and accelerated to get away from grass. That's when it happened. 50TW on a short line with a bright dolphin colored bubbler started screaming. Capt. Destefano knew immediately what we had and took charge. Cleared lines and watched 700+ blue marlin showing and shaking his enormous shoulders and then going airbourne 4 times. Made some great runs as Capt. Destefano and angler Bob Luce worked the monster. After a respectable battle, it ended just as suddenly when the 60lb. test broke. The new line looked frayed just above the break and may have been hit with the bill or possibly tail wrapped as a result of some spectacular jumps. Bob Luce isn't getting the marlin mounted but he is going to mount the broken line on a fish he will never forget. Harry Wilde said he was surprised to see a marlin this late in the season. Steve Wilde said he wouldn't have traded a boatload of yellowfin for the awesome air show the man in the blue suit treated us to. Ed napped on the return trip and said he kept seeing that fish come out of the water.
You never know. I guess that's what keeps us coming back to the blue waters of the Northeast Canyons.

Information : Great trip! Boated about 23 YFt and probably another 8 or 9 LFT. The hot bite started at about 2 AM and continued for about an hour and fifteen minutes. Then a big splash off the port side of the boat indicated a nice mako in the slick. a great fisherman originally from Long Island, now living in Spring Lake had a Shark Rig set up before hand and got it out there with a ling on it. He hooked it in no time. He also whipped this fish (100 + LBS) in about 15 minutes. Good trip good crew good guys too I think there were only about a half dozen fish lost.

Diamond Jigs and butterfish produced the best. We left them biting in the morning with 9 80lb yellowfins, 22 longfins to 68lbs , 2 50lb swordfish(released),3 tilefish 10-12lbs,and 3mahis. Boat Name: All Hooked Up
Date Fished: Oct. 1 and 2
Location: Hudson Canyon
Fishing Method: Chunk
Specie: Yellowfin Tuna
Size: Up to 80 lbs.
Bait or Lure: Squid/ Butters/ Sand Eels
Water Depth: 600' - 2000'
Water Temp.: 71-75
Information : Trolled into the canyon late on Fri and we were unhappy to see 65 degree water at the tip but our temp. charts were right on the money with a beautiful break down around the elbow stretching right across to the east wall. With no knockdowns on the troll, we settled on some nice real estate that had 74 degree water with nice markings. We decided drift due to FLAT CALM SEAS. Things were only slow for about an hour then all hell broke loose and we had non-stop action till 7:30AM the next morning. Live squid produced a yellowfin almost immediately with butters producing at a distant second. In addition, I brought a block of 5lbs. of Sand Eels. Throwing handfuls brought the tuna right to the boat. As Ferg decided to lob a sand eel on his Penn 975 he hooked onto a 100lb. freight train that ended up busting his Lamiglass in half after a 2 hour fight. Thanks to Don at Gifford for his rigged squid that produced a 70 lb. Sword at 3:00AM down 250'. Decided to pass on the morning troll as we had plenty of tuna for all. Heard it was hit or miss out there, guess we timed it right.
