Fishing Method: Chunk
Specie: Yellowfin Tuna
Size: 50-100lbs
Bait or Lure: Butterfish/Sardines
Water Depth: 600-750 ft
Water Temp.: 67-64 degrees
Information : Took advantage of the unusually nice october weather to schedule three consecutive charters.
On thursday friday had the H&R welding group on board and fished the east wall near the draggers. They
had a nice pick of larger size yellowfins to 100lbs and ended up with 15 yellowfins and 6 mahi on ice.
This was their first canyon experience and they did very well handling the yellowfins.
On saturday sunday had the Ron Antonelli fishing team on board and we set up on the east wall again.
They started by hooking up a triple of yellowfins and broke one off in a tangle. They continued picking
fish through the night and left with 11 yellowfins, one longfin and four mahi on ice.
On monday tuesday had the John Labash group on board and started on the east wall where they boated two
longfins. Action slowed and we moved to the west wall where we drifted with no action. Heard some good
reports near the 150/050 and moved to that area and drifted. At 2:30am the fish found our slick and they
left at sunrise with 20 yellowfins and 3 longfins on ice.

Information : Captain Phil Dulanie and mate Jay Richardella had a slow pick of bass in rough conditions
on Tuesday with the John Kerwin charter. Trolling green and black tubes began to produce well on the
drop of the tide and we got into a good pick when the charter called it a day early. However, we did
limit out on the bass as the charter was shorthanded and were releasing fish by 11am. In total 15 bass
were boated with many over 30" and 6 slots. In addition several bluefish were also boated and
released.

Location: One hour from Manasquan Inlet
Fishing Method: jigging, chumming
Specie: Bluefish
Size: 8 - 13 lbs.
Bait or Lure: Mossbunker
Water Depth: 60 - 100 feet
Water Temp.: ~ 65 degrees Fahrenheit
Information : Yesterday, we had a dream trip on Captain John Brackett's Queen Mary. The action was
vigorous both jigging and chumming. Blues typically ranged from about 8 to 13 pounds. There were only
15 of us on board so there was a minimum of tangles and lost fish. My buddy and I each took home 5
fish, cleaned and fileted on board. After catching 7 a piece, we decided to enjoy the boat ride. Many
on board caught the limit (15 fish) but released most of them. Some had the chance to use light tackle
(10 pound test). All this was made possible by the skill of Cptain and crew in finding, instructing,
and assisting with boating the fish. I have had many fishing fantasies but this was truly a real
memorable fishing outing.

Those of you who were out there might remember a commercial boat dragging his nets thru the fleet--well,
he snagged my anchor line and started to pull the boat! After calling him on the vhf, he pulled in his
net and dropped the anchor down in about 350 feet of water. The commercial captain was cool about the
whole situation and no 'problems' arose from the situation. Started chunking again and had none stop
action until about 11:00 pm. Went 7 out of 12 and one blue shark released. A great trip with Mark,

fishing was slow for me the first two nights. I followed up with a limit and a big fish of approx 20lbs
on Sat. One note, lots of fisherman on board asking how I was getting the bites. Two things:
1.Flourocarbon leaders and 2.In a wind against tide situation it may be neccessary to create your own
movement. Just a little movement when the Capt can't get the boat to drift (due to wind and tide) will
sometimes make the difference. I was casting and retrieving my eel while everyone else appeared to be
letting it drift with the boat (which was moving very little)

There were about 20 people on the Queen Mary. The average catch was 1-2 per man. The high hook was
about 5 fish. Brother Joe had 3 and I had one. It was a tough day. Nothing would touch jigs or
spearing. They wanted bunker backs and butterfish. Wire leaders did not matter. The fish were just

Boat Name: Mimi VI
Date Fished: 10/3/01 and 10/4/01
Location: Hudson Canyon
Fishing Method: Troll and Chunk
Specie: Yellowfin Tuna
Size:
Bait or Lure: Butterfish
Water Depth: 600+
Water Temp.: 68
Information : Tunas were very picky. We trolled from 3PM till dark, boating 2 dolphins and a skippy.
Anchored up on the east wall and fished from dark till 8AM. 9 anglers boated 21 longfin and 3 yelowfin,
with most of the bite coming at 4AM on butterfish. Fish quit at 7:15 AM. With one exception, the tuna
did not crash the bates. They would mouth them like a fluke and then slowly get up steam and go. Very
rough wind and water on Wednesday night and Thursday AM hampered fishing as we were doing the do-see-do
switching from port to starboard every ten minutes as the boat would twist 180 degrees around the
anchor. Fun trip and another great performance by Captain Kenny and mates Bill and Chris! These guys
are the best!

Date Fished: 10/3/01
Location: IBSP at A23
Fishing Method: Surf
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: 20"
Bait or Lure: Bucktails/Yozuri Minnow Plugs
Water Depth: Surf
Water Temp.: ?
Information : Moved along the beach at parking A23. Fished from 1130-6:30pm. Had one small striper hit
my blue/white bucktail when it was practically at my feet. The lure hardly fit in its mouth and it
popped right out. Most of the day I plugged the surf expecting alot more action. I was suprised I didnt
catch more than just one large sea robin. I did see 2 guys catch small striper on clam around 5pm. The
surf seemed perfect and I did see some baitfish jumping around within casting distance. I have a
feeling that the high bright sun and warm temps yesterday may have had something to do with my poor luck
or perhaps the time of day or maybe I'm just looking for excuses? In the past though during October,
I've had much more productive days but those days were all overcast instead of bright sun. LOTSA fox
all over the place yesterday even trying to get into my backpack on the beach!!

Water Depth: 600

Information : Captain Phil Dulanie was back out to the Hudson Canyon for his 52nd canyon trip of the
year with the Dave France charter from Flemington, NJ. Not knowing what to expect after this weekends
blow we headed to the east wall and set up on the troll. Trolling produced nothing but a few skipjack.
On the chunk we had an eventful night as we had fish in the slick fairly consistently however we only
had 4 shots at yellowfin but managed to put all 4 in the boat between 70-110 pounds. In addition, we
baited Mahi through-out the night putting at least a couple dozen in the boat. Unfortunately, we the
coming of yet another front is does not look like we will get another shot at the canyon until late in
the weekend. Oh well, that's October on the edge.
