Specie: Striped Bass

Bait or Lure: Yozuri Emperor Minnow
Water Depth: 3-4ft.

Information : I caught my first keeper this year and it wasn't easy. The Northend of OC has been
more miss than hit. The dredge was putting pressure on me to catch a keeper before the Army Corp
covers them all up and the bass and bait have no place to gather. I am just glad to see some
gannets and the rest will eventually fall into place.

Date Fished: Halloween Night
Location: South Seaside Park
Fishing Method: Plugging
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: 30" and up
Bait or Lure: 5" Black Bombers
Water Depth: Surf
Water Temp.: 57
Information : Best Striper night ever for GonZo! Just driving by tthe beach and decided to toss a
few plugs. Picked up a 30" on my first cast, went back to the car and put on my waders. Never even
went down to the inlet, fished behind the Top o'the Mast Restaurant in Seaside Park. Found a hole
in the sandbar and landed upwards of 30 fish in 3 1/2 hours.
Never had action like that before. Fishing an 8 1/2" surf casting rod with a small conventional i
was able to reach just beyond the break, almost every cast resulted in a strike on the backside of
the swells. All of the fish were in the 30 - 34" range with the largest from my chin to the second
rib in the kneepads on my waders -- maybe 36"?
Absolutely awesome. I had to leave because I was exhausted. Hope that it keeps up! I've prayed for
a night like that for as long as I've fished for Stripers and finally got one.
We're heading out for some late season tuna on Thursday-Friday anyone with any reports, it would
be great. Good luck and keep 'em wet! GonZo

Big Mistake. No fish, got soaked by spray. Traded the boat for a jeep and got to IBSP jut in
time to
miss the morning action.
Hung around until the tide came in. The bass and blues came with the deeper water. Clams worked
but
guys with bunker chunks did better.
Also saw a black drum in the 70-80 lb. class hauled in. Turned into a good day. When we headed
home
at 1pm the fishing looked to be getting even better.
Tomorrow might have to be a sick day. Tight lines

five sea bass and 5 porgies. One sea bass we estimated at 3 pounds (18 to 19 inches). It was by
far
the largest one on the boat. I found that peanut bunker cut in half was an excellent attractor of
fish. I caught a very large porgy using a whole bunker. I tried whole peanut bunker at first but
although I had a lot of hits I was missing most ofthe fish. The mate suggested that I cut the
bunker
in half at 12:45. I caught four fish in the next 15 minutes. At 1:00 we headed back to A.H.

Information : I was skeptical about fishing on a "headboat". I have a 28' Bertram and am used to
doing
things "my way". Thirty guys all trying to get a shot at tuna sounds like a great big cluster you
know
what.. Well Captain Bogan and the crew were just fabulous. After a very slow start with only three
fish
comming over the rail in the dark. We did move several times. I did managed to jig a very nice
Longfin
at day light. We moved again around 10:00AM to within a 1/2 mile of were we started. Well the
action
was nonstop until we pulled anchor around 2:00PM. The crew directed traffic sometimes with four
fish
hooked up on one side and several on the other side and maybe one or two at the stern!. I saw only
one
major tangle and the crew got the fish. I broke off seven fish at the boat; but I was using 50#
florocarbon. The fish that got away were big yellowfins in the 80# range. I did manage to bring
one to
gaff plus three longfins to 50#. If you are like me and don't know if you like the party boat
thing
just give it try. Captain Howard Bogan strayed on the fish long after the trip was supposed to end
and
the crew was excellent. I found some new fishing buddies who want to chase strippers in the
comming
weeks; and am booked for my next trip. Bring your food, raingear, boots as the decks are
constantly
washed, and plenty of muscle power. Oh yes bring some tip money as the crew works their butts off
for
you.

Non stop action all day long. Put about 10 in the cooler with Toms wife Suzzanne netting the big
26
incher. No weaks for us, just those flatties. I myself was commited to using ultra light tackle
hoping
for a good fight. What I got was almost nothing. Fished all day without any luck and 5 minutes
before
we left for home I had a huge fight with Mr Sea Robin. I did manage to also catch a squid. Even my

Bait or Lure: Butterfish
Water Depth: 360'
Water Temp.: 66
Information : Arrived at the canyon saturday night at dark, set up the chunk on the west wall and
waited, moved four times through the night but no fish. At sun up heard on the radio that the east
wall
was producing fish but decided to stay on the west wall, glad we did because at 8:30 a.m. the rods
lit
up and we slaughtered 50 pounders, ran out of chunk bait by 9:00. Might be the last tuna trip for
me.
Good fishing.

Location: Seaside/Barn. Ridge
Fishing Method: chunk
Specie: S-Fin Mako Shark
Size: 50lbs
Bait or Lure: bunker
Water Depth:
Water Temp.:
Information : On Saturday morning we left Barnegat Inlet and ran north until we got into massive
schools of bunker. We live lined and chunked some with no luck. There were too many boats to
compete
with so we loaded up with bunkers and ran to the ridge to try some chunking. I figured the water
was
cool enough for a mako. Within a few minutes we had our first run off. We lost it. Then I had a
spinning rod out with a live bunker on and it just took off. A 50lb mako was on and put on a real
nice
show for us. We landed and released the mako.
Sunday we found more schools of bunker and this time all we could pull out from under them was
bluefish. I did hear of some bass being caught but all we could find was the large choppers. I
will
be doing some night trips this week lets hope the bass start hitting.

Fishing Method: Drift
Specie: Weakfish
Size:
Bait or Lure: Squid
Water Depth: 20-35'
Water Temp.: 65
Information : Arrived at LE inlet at about 930 this morning. Made a few unproductive drifts and
decided
to go outside. Headed south aboard the "O' Yeah! " to 1/2 mi off wreck inlet. Marked some fish and
my 9
year old son Corey and I caught a weakfish every time we dropped our squidded line in! The action
was
so hot I had to reel in a third rod we had out because two rods had fish on at all times for about
30
mins. or so. We had a ton of 13" - 14" fish and 3 between 16" & 18." Then we drifted further out
to
where a fleet of boats were nailing weaks under the birds. had several more and I had a big one
get
away. Just as I lost my big fish the boat next to me caught a 7-8# false albacore. We then
returned to
the LE inlet and had a couple of run offs on the out going tide using live eel. But ended the day
with
6 weakfish between 16 & 22." Threw everything under that back. Great day...Bob

Bait or Lure: A-17 A-27 1/2oz jig head and white finS
Water Depth: 20 to 35 ft
Water Temp.: 63.7
Information : Took my better half for a day on the water. Looking for weakfish and found them just
as I
turned the corner. The weaks were schooling just off sea girt and were easy to find. Requested
some
information on how the guys were catching and used tht information to score over 20 weakfish to 17
inches. Kept 7 for dinner which I had tonight. My wife used the A-17 and was high hook for the day
and
caught the biggest fish. I stayed with the jig and white fin-s on 8 pound test with a micro light
rod
and reel. Tried for some seabass at the deal area but no drift at 1 pm. The small bluefish were
the key
to getting the larger weakfish as they were right under those surfacing bluefish.
I will try for bass again next weekend if the weather allows. Saw lots of small schools of bunker.
I
didn't care for those netters working the schools of weakfish and I didn't see them throw any
shorts
back. We should to keep them off the rec fleets.

Information : Captain Phil Dulanie went right back offshore for the 3rd overnighter in as many

Saturday-Sunday with the Harold Edsell charter from High Point, NJ. However, on this one, the
fishing
was not up to par. With boats on our numbers from the last two nights we were forced to set up a
mile
away and thought we were in for a great night when we put 4 yellowfin in the boat before dark.
However, once the sun disappeared so did the fish and we only had 2 bluesharks throughtout the
rest of
the night. This was going to be, most likely, the last of 48 canyon trips for the year but after
such
a great year we can not stand ending our canyon season on a low note. I guess we will have to do

about
6:30PM and got right to it. This is the second time that I found this spot productive. Nothing in
the
way of water temp breaks, but didn't seem to bother the fish. Heavy chunk brought in the fish at
between 100' to 150' deep. Kept 12 fish, I think all yellowfin, although some reports were of alot
of
longfin. When we slowed down the chunk, the fish went away; increase the chunk and they'd come
back. I
heard some chatter about the east elbow being dead & some guys moved to the west side. Also, fish
are
not leader shy, we used 6' of 80# Fluorocarbon with 4oz barrel sinker and it was fine. Got a visit
from
a 12' shark for about 5 minutes (I know this is accurate as it was almost as wide as the stern on
my
43' Egg) I couldn't tell what type it was, just knew it was big. The second shark later on was a
4'-5'
Blue. Just a note that I saw the supermarket price for tuna today at $15.99/lb! Email me if you

Specie: Striped Bass

Bait or Lure: Shad rigs and tubes
Water Depth: 15' to 40'

Information : Went fishing with my dad, hoping to catch stripers. Started trolling at 8:30 AM, at
the
bug light, worked my way around the tip of the Hook. Saw birds working many places, all the way
down
to the Rocks. Couldn't hook anything. Heard that the fish surfacing were false albacore.
Trolled the
Rocks with no success. Decided to do some bottom fishing at the Sandy Hook Reef, so we wouldn't
get
skunked. The bergalls were hungry, but we managed to catch seven keeper seabass. A beautiful

Bait or Lure: butterfish, squid, Green Machines
Water Depth:
Water Temp.: 62.4
Information : Ron Bryan, Stan Dylag and I arrived at the 100 square about 5:30 PM on Thursday and
set
up immediately to chunk. We had our first yellowfin on in short order and had two in the boat
before
everything shut off at 9 PM. After daybreak we put two more in the boat and then began to troll
up the
east wall. The water temperature dropped two degrees between the 100 square and east elbow where
it
once again increased to 62.2-62.4 and remained in that range all the way to the tip. At the east
elbow
we picked up one longfin and one YFT and lost a third as we trolled through. All fish trolled hit
Green Machines. No hits from the east elbow to the tip. There seemed to be less bait in the 100
square but the fish there are bigger on average.

Size: 9.8 lbs 31 inches
Bait or Lure: Ava -27 with red tail
Water Depth: 50-60 feet
Water Temp.: 62.5 degree
Information : The first legal striper Chris caught in his 32 year of life. The day started off
slow -
we were bottom fishing until Chris seen bird working to the south. The move the paid off. Every
cast
produced blues in the 2 to 3 pound class until Chris landed the striper. The initial hit was no
different, until Chris realized that he had something bigger that the 2 -3 blues. To his surprise
it was
striper. I was a great day of fishing.

Boat Name:
Date Fished: 10/07/2000
Location: Island Beach State Park (Gelkins)
Fishing Method: Surf with live and cut bait
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: 32 inches - 14lbs
Bait or Lure: Clam and Peanut Bunker
Water Depth: Just beyond the 1st Sandbar
Water Temp.: 64 degrees
Information : Surf was knocked down by a pretty stiff East wind. We got to IBSP around 5:30 am, a
lot
of guys were out, but little action. As the tide started coming in there were visible "meatballs"
of
tightly packed bunker and whitebait (pilchards) being pushed to shore by small blues. A lot of
birds
were working, but there was little action outside. With fresh sea clam strips on the bottom we sat
without action. A guy with a cast net hit the outside edge of a meatball and gave us a dozen
semi-live
3 inch bunker. After adding the bunks to the clam we started getting some hits.
Three hours produced to bass - one 28 1/2 inches the other 32 inches but skinny (14lbs) and a 6 lb
fluke. I'm glad the Fluke came today, only a week left in season, I would have been very sad
sending
him back to sea...
Water and weather conditions continue to be ideal for bass, hopefully the yield will increase.
Early
bass seem to be the best indication of how Nov-Dec will be.

we went 10-14 on larger size yellowfin and too larger mahi. There were large sharks swimming by

Boat Name: Bird-of-Prey
Date Fished: 10/7/00
Location: Shrewsbury Rocks
Fishing Method: Trolling/chunking
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: 27-34"
Bait or Lure: Bunker spoon, Stretch 30, Shad spreader bar
Water Depth: 20-35'
Water Temp.: 65
Information : Stan Dylag and Peter Longo joined me for a pleasant day on the water up at the
Rocks. We
joined the massive flotilla at 8:30 AM and by noon had four stripers in the box all taken on the
shad
rig (black). The white bunker spoon and Stretch 30 did nothing but bump the bottom. Looking
around
the fleet it seems chartreuse is the hot shad color that the pros were using. After losing one
spoon
and the shad rig to the rocks, I decided to clean out the bait locker and chunk bunker. After
only two
runoffs and no further action we headed home. We did get to clear some debris off the rocks when
the
Stretch 30 picked up some old 60lb mono and the shad rig caught about 50 yards of 40lb wire with a
parachute jig on the end. I guess it was a net loss to the rocks (hardware wise) in the end.

Date Fished: 10/7/00
Location: Ocean - Off Holgate Wildlife Refuge
Fishing Method: Jigging
Specie: Weakfish
Size: 14-19"
Bait or Lure: Hopkins
Water Depth: 8-15 feet
Water Temp.: 64
Information : Weakfish Weakfish Weakfish everywhere....brought home 32 total, threw back 2x that
number
in shorts. The fish were only hitting Hopkins lures jigging on the bottom and just off the bottom.
Many
boats were around, all using bait and catching one or two, here and there. These fish had stomachs
FULL
of herring which is why I think they were only hitting the hopkins and not drifted bait such as
squid,
killie, etc. We marked fish all day along with the bait fish.
Also to note....as these weakfish were brought to the surface, there were sometimes a half dozen
small
blues right on their tails. We had non-stop action from 8am-1pm when we called it a day (a very
good
day) ....

Boat Name: Tailwalker
Date Fished: 9/4 - 9/5
Location: Hudson Canyon
Fishing Method: Chunking
Specie: Yellowfin Tuna
Size: 60 to 100 pounds
Bait or Lure: butterfish & squid
Water Depth: 650 feet
Water Temp.: 68 degrees
Information : Didn't mark bait or fish on the west wall where we had been fishing for weeks and
the
water temp was about 66 degrees, so we went to the east side and immediately saw temp jump and
marked
bait and fish. Set up at 6pm and by 8pm had 6 large yellowfin from 80 to 100 pounds. Action slowed
a
little and then picked up again with smaller fish from 60 to 80 pounds and remained steady all
night.
By midnight we had boated 17 and then switched to 20 and 30 pound spinning and baitcasting gear.
We
lost a lot of fish on the light tackle but released quite a few voluntarily. By 2:30AM we had
collared
and cleaned up the boat and went to sleep for a few hours before heading home. GREAT TRIP!
