Angler Name : Mick Pirolli

Boat Name: Bounty Hunter
Date Fished: 11/30/2006
Location: Raritan Bay

Specie: Striped Bass
Size: Up to 32"
Bait or Lure: Clams
Water Depth: 28 Ft.
Water Temp.: 52 Degrees
Information : I had the Mick Pirolli charter on board the Bounty Hunter and made my way up to the Sandy Hook area. The morning zero visibility fog made for a slower ride but once there we anchored in 25 Ft. After an hour of clamming we had a dozen shorts. We made a short move and got into a good bite of undersize fish. The charter released over 30 shorts. A third move to the north put us into another good bite of short Bass. On the tide change the larger fish came on and we saved the day by putting 4 keepers up to 32" in the fish box. Once again the short Bass did not miss being legal by much. Most of the releases were in the 26" to 27 1/2" range. For the day over 60 were released.

Fishing Method:
Specie: Striped Bass
Size:
Bait or Lure: clams
Water Depth:
Water Temp.:
Information : Another good day of fishing...had to wait for the incoming again, about an hour and a half, but it was worth it. Had a good shot at the keepers and plenty of smaller fish. Put the boat on a drift when it slowed down, pick at them, but caught more dogfish that way....Figures, finally start catching some nice size fish and it's gonna blow again!!! Just can't get a break...capt.ron

Angler Name : Harry
E-Mail : stormc1000@yahoo.com
Boat Name: beach
Date Fished: 11/30/06
Location: Sandy Hook Surf
Fishing Method: clam off beach
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: 22"
Bait or Lure: clam
Water Depth: 15-20'
Water Temp.: warm
Information : Since my buddies were golfing and I forgot clubs... I went fishing. Almost 70 degrees on the beach and the short bass ate non stop for the entire incomming tide. 1 hour, 4 22 or so inch football shaped very fat stripers. Lost my new camera-cell phone taking pictures of my catch since I could not take a nine pound 22" bass home. It was worth it, last beach trip of the season for me... Maybe?

Information : The Tom Headley charter was on board the Bounty Hunter today and Capt. Paul headed back to the Sandy Hook area. We started off with a slow pick on small Bass and thought we were in for a repeat of the past few days. However to our surprise the larger fish started to move in. Our short Bass were not off by much from being legal and in the mix we landed 6 keepers up to 36 while releasing over 40 shorts.. Today was a vast improvement over the past days when all we had were undersize fish. Maybe this is the start of the long overdue Striper bite. Boat Name: Fishermen
Date Fished: 11/28/06
Location: ocean
Fishing Method:
Specie: Striped Bass
Size:
Bait or Lure: clams
Water Depth:
Water Temp.: 50
Information : Just about the same fishing as yesterday. Lots of action with the small ones and again, only a handfull of keepers...Plenty of fish around so the future looks great when they grow up! Amazing the differance in the fishing from last year this time, if you go back to the old reports you'll see from Nov.1st on, we never had to carry bait, we jigged everyday. Bird life from Sandy Hook to Elberon, in between the channels and over to NY. This year, plenty of fish, mostly small, and no life with the exception of an odd patch of tiny fish in the AM working in the bay. Water temp is still 50 degrees...who knows? After 30 years, I still haven't figured it out! capt.ron

Bait or Lure: Clams
Water Depth: 20 Ft.

Information : The Dave Kirk charter was on board the Bounty Hunter and Capt Paul made his way up to Raritan Bay. If we were destined to have a slow day of Bass fishing today was the day. A morning stop in Raritan Bay only netted us several shorts and then the bite died. A move back to the ocean side produced a slow pick of Bass but all were undersize. We finished the clamming with just over 25 shorts. A brief stop on the rocks got us 2 short Stripers and one large Bluefish while pulling Shad rigs. A very slow day to say the least.

Date Fished: 11/15/06
Location: North of Shark River Inlet
Fishing Method: Bottom
Specie: Tautog
Size: to 6lbs
Bait or Lure: green crab
Water Depth: 50ft
Water Temp.:
Information : Fished Captain Cal from Belmar. Went north of Shark River Inlet and anchored with the fleet. Started with a slow pick. Moved and found some action - mostly shorts - but you had a bump on every drop. Sticky bottom, so we donated a lot to help build the reef there - but worth it to feel the tug on the line. I broke off a rig and used the backup zebco noodle rod I had set up for my son and hooked up on a 5lb-er. Runner up pool fish. Moved again with slow pick and last stop was dead. Few doggies and eel. No limits on the boat - high hook had 5 - some guys had donuts. It was a nice day on the water, warm, bit of a heave still and water was a little cloudy, so fishing was decent considering the conditions. Waiting for the bite to really turn on after this deluge.

Specie: Striped Bass
Size: 28
Bait or Lure: Clam
Water Depth: 12 to 22
Water Temp.: 58
Information : Out the door in Keyport the water was chocolate milk So we headed to the Hook in search of some cleaner water and found it three quarters the way. We setup the troll and hit the rip with Mike hitting the first Striper of the day at 22 inches. That was it for the trolling as we dragged lines for about another hour with no results. I asked Mike to head the boat over to the Romer Shoal Lighthouse and we found a few guys anchored about a mile off. I ran the boat on the slack side with the tide going out it was running fast. With the boat anchored it looked like we were still moving. We hit the clams and the Stripers were hungry. We got so many hits and at times four poles were going at one time. We brought in three keepers and threw a whole bunch back. Mike snapped a Monster off right at the boat. It was outstanding fishing for the last hour before sunset. Think like a fish!

We stopped to jig, caught about a half dozen blues, some more doggies, a squid and a sea robin. Gorgeous day to be on the water, just wish fishing could be better

Location: lavellette to sandy hook
Fishing Method: troll &jig
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: shorts
Bait or Lure: shads,strech&metal
Water Depth: 20 to 50'
Water Temp.: 55?
Information : I had the opportunity to get out before work Thursday & Friday for a couple of hours out of Manasquan, plenty of bait with not alot on them. I fished a little to the south both days and had a pick of slammer size blues and a couple of short bass. Sunday I went north and found less bait that way, went almost to the hook and turned around with no good reports coming that way either. I dont know when this bass run is going to start but watching all this bait go by with nothing on them is depressing, pulling the boat soon and hope it blows-up before December!!! If your having the same luck as me right now, dont waste your gas running, my best fishing the last 3 trips has been within a half mile of the inlet, out going tide is a plus!!! Anybody fish way south over the weekend, please email me or post a report, I haven't heard anything past seaside. Thanks !!!!!

Information : Let's see..was it the Moon, the current, the bait was moving too fast, too many boats?? I have a million excuses for today anyway....Fished out to the east, clamming, a couple short fish. Had bird life again like yesterday and like a dumbass, went after it. Hoped today they would bite, fish moving way to fast chasing the bait, with the exception of 3 drifts late in the day where we found some blues that wanted to bite. Big fish, only that's not what we wanted. Kept going from Anchor to drifting, the bait fishing never took hold. Sounds like a few fish were caught on eels today, but with that moon tide it would have been a nightmare even to attempt that. Perfect Weather, good gang of customers..not many fish....definatly 3 Scotches after this weekend!!!! capt.ron

Fishing Method: Troll/Clamming
Specie: Striped Bass

Bait or Lure: Shads and Clams
Water Depth: 12 to 45
Water Temp.: 55 to 57
Information : Started the day with intentions of heading straight to the Hook from Keyport but we we stopped by some birds working off Union Beach. We setup the troll and pasted them twice without a hit. Noticed the birds were scooping up the bait but there were no fish chasing them. Back to the original plan and hit the rip and setup the troll again. John was on within minutes with a schoolie 20 inch Striper. We trolled from the Hook to the Highlands Bridge and back without another hit. Setup the clams in the Rip and through the channels with nothing. Ran to Romer Lighthouse and found a nice spot (it looked nice) Anchored and started to clam. Could not get rid of the clam! John did catch a skate while we were there while I caught a good tan. We decided to head home but we trolled from the Lighthouse all the way back to Keyport not another hit the rest of the day. Be back out this week.

Bait or Lure: Snagged Peanut Bunker
Water Depth: 0-5'
Water Temp.: 56 according to the gps
Information : Hit the beach at 6AM expecting to just have a nice drive. Ran into my own private blitz of short bass and blues right at the Brick Beach entrance. Its been 5 years since my last private blitz and that was in a Nor'easter. Fish were driving peanuts right onto the beach but absolutely refused to take an atrificial anything. Why eat crackers when you have Filet Mignon. Switched to snagging and dropoping peanuts under the school. Caught 12 bass and three large bluefish. Reason my blitz was private was because there was even better action in Lavalette and Dover. Hugh schools of fish in the area were keeping most boats 1/2 mile out. Excellent surf morning. Can't wait for the PM. Tom

Saw a half mile of birds working down the beach about 2 1/2 miles away so we blasted off. Thought the fall run was about to kick in..once we got there, read a ton of bait, had 6 fish on at one shot and lost everyone! We did manage 1 big bluefish out of it....got the hell outta there fast, so much for the fall jigging...ran 40 minutes to the next drop, thinking, If I don't catch them here "I'm a Dead Man"!! Anchored the boat...10 rods went off, thought I would jump off the top deck...until I saw they were Horn Dogs!!! Caught a bass right away, then another, then a pick. Busted some heads on the dogs to get rid of them..Oh, sorry..aren't they endangered?? Tide started to run in nice, bite got better and we pulled that rabbit outta you know where.....capt.ron
