Date Fished: Nov 27
Location: The ROCKS
Fishing Method: Troll / Jig
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: Schoolies
Bait or Lure: Shads
Water Depth: 25'- 40'
Water Temp.: 46
Information : Started out at first light, only one other boat at the rocks. Terns were eveywhere, feeding on rainfish. Caught 15 scoolies and one keeper 34", also one ten pound blue. Trolling was slow after ten am. so switched to jigging which didn't produce much. It was a morning of gunning and running. Some of the captain could have been more curtious. The fly cuckers which normally pride themselves on being curtious were the worst running over the shcools from behind, immediately puuting the schools down, instead of running ahead of the schools and letting the fish come to them. Other than that a beautiful day on the water.

Bait or Lure: pearl shad
Water Depth: 20-30
Water Temp.: 53
Information : Perfect day, flat calm, warm. Started out trolling 6:30 by Harvey Cedars lump, nothing but a couple of blues. Made my way north up by bathng beach/coast guard station. Marked alot of bait, but very slow, using umbrella rigs and tubes picked up one short and a couple of blues in 40-50 feet. Everyone left early for Thanksgiving. Hung in till 2 when the bass went on the feed big time. Right in front of the governer's mansion. Bass thick, actively feeding on the surface under birds, on clouds of small peanut bunker, right outside the surf to 1/3 mile out. It was beutiful, only two or three other boats there, flat calm, hungry bass, and NO blues! Casting pearl storm shads worked very well. Caught around fifteen by myself ranging from shorts to the largest going 36". Not a bad way to close out the year

Boat Name: Jeric Sea
Date Fished: 11/23/2003
Location: Bay Head
Fishing Method: Trolling
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: 31" & 32"
Bait or Lure: Chartreuse Bunker Spoon
Water Depth: 55' - 65'
Water Temp.: 51 degrees
Information : We broke the Manasquan Inlet at 6:45am and headed south. We proceeded to setup bunker spoons and shad rigs and started trolling when we reached the old Thunderbird Motel. The Ocean was flat with just a ripple on top. The day was clear, the sun was strong, and there was a slight easterly breeze. Unlike the previous 2 weekends, the squalls of birds and fish were not around. The first was caught within the first 45 - 60 minutes. The second was caught around 12:00 noon. We fished a combo of wire line outfits w/drails and a downrigger. The downrigger was the only effective method to put the baits into productive waters. Generally speaking, it was a slow pick and many anglers went home empty, but it was a beautiful day on the water.

Water Depth: 30 - 55
Water Temp.: 54
Information : Trolled the "loop", out Manasquan, in Barnegat Inlet. Slow day, we had one bluefish and one short bass. Had afew hits. Some nice fish marks near the bottom but no action. I know my stuff was near bottom as we foul hooked two skates. Not marking as much bait as when I was out two weeks before. My boat comes out of water this week. Guess my bass fishing will be from the surf. It was a great day to be out even though the fish did not cooperate. Good luck.

Information : Went to a new spot that I never fished. Great move. Started out alittle slow, but we stuck to it and started hitting some real good fish Alot of throw backs but did bring home 15 fish in the 5 to 9 lb range. Great day on the water. Tried trolling back for stripers. not even a knock down. Word to the wise, hit the wreak before you striper fish. If you don't, when you get to your favorite spot everyone and their mother is already there. First come first served.

Bait or Lure: rapalla diving lure
Water Depth: 30-50
Water Temp.:
Information : Out of Corson's Inlet by 9am. No chop, bright sun, out going tide. Trolled around Sea Isle lump and got a monster bluefish, 30+ inches on a stretch 20. Other smaller blues in the same area. Headed over to the Avalon shoal and got one 27" striped bass. Delicious. Curiously, hundreds of spiny dogfish were schooled up in 30 feet of water northeast of the bell. They were in on tight pocket, and as soon as you drifted throught them, everyone was on. Great fun while it lasted. I hear they call them dog fish because they hunt in packs, and rightfully so.

Working the area from Asbury Park south to Mantoloking and then back to Spring Lake the best we could do was 1 Striper a 32" fish. There was no shortage of "Alligator" Blues. They kept a bend in the rods for most of the day. We had Double and Triple Blues on our Rigs all day long. We did not hear of any good Striper reports from Sandy Hook down to Barnegat. Location: longport, margate beaches
Fishing Method: clam
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: 25"
Bait or Lure: clam
Water Depth: 15'-3'
Water Temp.: 53
Information : Well fished In longport (great egg Inlet) all day saturday. Fishing was slow. I saw one guys eel get whacked and the fish splash around while the dude was asleep in the chilly wind, One of my fellow jetty-rats got one measly 25 incher, and alls i caught was the biggest croaker anyone had ever seen, it was a real monster croaker, 22" and i'd guess around 7 pounds, I thought it was my first Jersey Redfish, spent 10 minutes trying to see a spot on its tail! Both fish on clams.
For dusk I went up the beach to margate and saw bass selectivly eating millions of 2inch long silversides, right up in the suds, but the fly rod was back at home! I could see schools of bluefish and maybe some big cows busting within a quarter mile of the beach all day. Sunday the beach in margate was dead, but i only had an hour to spare.

At first light the birds popped up in the bay and it was non stop action on storm shads until around 7:30 when the charter was just one bass short of their limit.A switch over to clamming off sandy hook produced a good pull of bass up to 20lbs for the rest of the day.

Fishing Method: Live bait, troll, jig
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: Upt to 32"
Bait or Lure: Various
Water Depth: 39
Water Temp.: 57
Information : Headed out Sunday morning to work the Sod banks in Barnegat Bay. I thought is was going to be a good start when one of our spot was taken on the first drift. I thought wrong and only had two pick ups for the rest of the tide. I decided to head out Barnegat Inlet and turned north to troll shad rigs and bunker spoons off the Old Coast Guard House which produced 2 32" bass right away. After that we had to weed through the bluefish to catch bass. The boat was limited out by 10am and at times all 4 rods would go off at the same time. After heading a few more miles north we encountered diving birds so we switched to jigs which produced big gator blues and a few more bass. We decided to call it a day by 1:30 and headed back to the Inlet. Once we got in the inlet we and noticed the tide was ripping so we pulled out some spot and sent them down. Each drift along the rocks enticed a bass so we kept catching until we used the rest of our live baits. Guys were also hooking up with bucktails as well.

Chunked all nite No tuna at night but had two makos and other huge sharks and dolphin, while I slept the guys thought they had sword on for awhile too. Kept one mako and released the others. Tuna showed up at dawn chasing a school of mahi Pulled six yellowfin in between the three of us. Air temp had to be 80 on Sunday. Just phenomenal, would have stayed all day but we knew how long a trip it was back. There was a 10 degree temperature difference from the lower poormans to the upper and you could feel it in the air, didn’t even need a gauge to know the water change. Major bite in the upper poorman on the cold side during the day for chunkers. Fish were down 70 feet, I heard, and watched 10 boated while I trolled through on my way home. Talked with one boat that fished the Wilmington that night who did nothing. Looks like the yellowfin are way south.

Information : The weather was beautiful and the seas were fairly calm, but the fishing was pretty slow for a full boatload on the afternoon trip. We started off with one drop fairly close in, but it was pretty dead with just a few sea bass, small porgies, and some dogfish. Then the Capt. decided to make the long run to another wreck, an hour further offshore. Though there was more consistent action, the vast majority of the sea bass and porgies weren't even close to keeper size. One huge sea bass, probably at least 5 pounds, blew away the competition to take the pool. Overall, kind of disappointing for this time of year when bottom fishing is usually much more productive.

The hightlight of the trip came at noon, with only a handful of chunks and 3 butters left, 6 1/2' mako came right up to the transom. We quickly riggged a pitch bait and hooked him up and invited him home!...Just one of those days that makes it all worth it!!

At 6:300, with large tuna marks below the bait at 100-150 ft., we had two fish on, and boated both, 120 and 200 lbs. Constant large marks all morning, and another 150 pounder at 8 am and we finished early and had a decent ride home. Its Nov 1st, 70 degrees, and there's easy bluefin out there. God Bless America, what could be better! These fish, I believe, are here for a while.

Date Fished: 11/01
Location: Mudhole
Fishing Method: troll/ chunk
Specie: Bluefin Tuna
Size: 45lb
Bait or Lure: Green machines, Daisy Chains/ Butterfish
Water Depth: 190'
Water Temp.: 59.5
Information : Our first destination from Great Kills Harbour was the Oil wreck. From there we decided to troll the west side of the Mudhole all the way to the Lilian. Although we spotted nice amounts of bait in the northern tip we pushed on with hopes of a knockdown. However there was no luck on the troll. Around 9:00am we came to a fleet on the west side directly across from the Monster Ledge. Reports were hot on the radio so we decided to anchor up here and start chunking. After an hour of chunking we had our first tuna hit and miss, then a bunch of monster bluefish. Finally around 12:30 we had our Bluefin. Thanks to the guys in the fleet with the reports, and to the guys in the Bertrum who managed to troll through everyones slick, " What goes around comes around!"
