FISHING REPORTS FOR MARCH 2001

NAUTICALNET MARINE CHARTERS

Angler Name : Al Gillen
E-Mail : algillen@yahoo.com
Boat Name:
Date Fished: 03/31/01
Location: Barnegat Inlet
Fishing Method:
Specie: Tautog
Size:
Bait or Lure:
Water Depth: 80
Water Temp.:
Information : Made our first trip of the season out to a wreck in 80' of water. There appeared to be life on the wreck, but we couldn't catch much during 3 hours of fishing other than one monkfish, one bergall, and one lobster -- which managed to get a hook into its mouth. As we were closing in on the wreck, we crossed over what might have been a small pod of mackerel. On the way home we couldn't find any more pods.

Angler Name : mike

Location: harvey cedars--lbi
Fishing Method: anchor

Angler Name : Jason
E-Mail : strykerjay
Boat Name: Kodiak
Date Fished: 3-31-01
Location: Barnegat Bay-by Harvery Ceders
Fishing Method: anchor
Specie: Winter Flounder
Size: 11-16 inches
Bait or Lure: bloodworm
Water Depth: 5-10 ft
Water Temp.: 44
Information : Went out Saturday morning, was nice and sunny at the dock, but the clouds rolled in fast. It was kind of bad went we first got there...we went by a bunch of boats off the 55 buoy and only got one small one. Then I convinced my old man to fish where nobody was...a few buoys up. We got six flounder in like an hour and a half there. Chummed like hell with crushed muscles, corn, and rice. Thats why I never like to anchor by a lot of boats...think I have a better chance to score with less competetion. Though it was cloudy and damp, it was actually very nice fishing because the bay was flat and the wind was dead.

Angler Name : Capt. Howard Bogan
E-Mail : bigjamaica@aol.com
Boat Name: 125' Jamaica
Date Fished: 3/31/01
Location: 80 miles offshore
Fishing Method: wreck
Specie: Black Sea Bass
Size: 2-7LBS
Bait or Lure: clam & squid
Water Depth: 200'
Water Temp.: 47
Information : Giant Sea Bass Continue to Provide Excellent Catches on Offshore Trips!Brielle, NJ 18 Hour Special Offshore Wreck trips to the 50 to 80 mile wrecks sail 12:30AM every Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday Wednesday's offshore wreck trip was the best trip of the month until Saturday, when fishing was even better. Giant sea bass are once again schooling heavily around the offshore wrecks. The past two trips were the best offshore sea bass fishing I have ever experienced at this time of the season. We have caught sea bass offshore this late in the season in the past but, not in the size and numbers of our past two trips. Not only are the fish plentiful, but the size of the fish is amazing. There is also a buildup of hake, ling and a few cod and pollock on some of the wrecks so the outlook for the month of April is very good. The wrecks we have fished the past two trips however, hane been loaded, primarily with giant sea bass. There were also a few ling and pollock mixed in. The pool winners were: Patrick Salvato from Staten Island, NY with a 10LB pollock. Second place was: John Petty from Piscataway, NJ with a 7LB sea bass. Just as on Wednesday's trip everyone on board had a good catch with many catching 40 or more. Most of the fish were large to jumbo. Coolers were full. A good number of passengers even quit fishing before it was time to head in once they caught all they could use, as it does not make much sense to catch and release giant sea bass caught in 200 feet of water. Capt. Howard Bogan
