Date Fished: 3-31-00
Location: SHARK RIVER
Fishing Method: BOTTOM/boat
Specie: Winter Flounder
Size: 10.75/ 12 / 14 /
Bait or Lure: worms
Water Depth: 12-16
Water Temp.: ?
Information : I caught 3 all day. incoming water seems to be a complete waste of time.I suggest anybody that is considering using the belmar marina ramp to forget it.the infamous token machine wouldnt work, and it took an hour to get someone with a key! Furthermore there is no parking to speak of because practically the whole marina is under reconstruction. On the weekend you probably wont find a place to park. Does anybody know any good alternatives for shark river access?

Water Depth: 8-15'

Bob Sr., Rich Lenches & his cousin Tommy and I took out a few chum logs and a couple dozen worms for a 1/2 day. We only managed four keepers on the NY side and didn't see many more pulled up by the 20 or so boats surrounding us, but once that wind turned south we were in t-shirt weather...Heaven! Still early for the 'Bay, though the water warmed up 5 degrees since last week. It'll start crankin' soon.

Water Depth:
Water Temp.:
Information : Wanted to drop you a line about this year. You may remember me from the captain and crew of the Lil Guy in last year's reports on some of the fishing sites. Well we upgraded boats this year to a walk around cuddy and it gives us a new name. The Barely Awake crew. We went out Saturday in the wind to fish the inlet and Beasleys point. We did manage 2 brief runoffs on eels, but no hookups. there were about 8 boats around throughout the day trying but we only saw white perch caught. We went up the GE river further to look for less wind and we managed a few catfish and 2 white perch ourselves on worms. The new boat ran fine and the 5 of us enjoyed the change from the cabin fever routine. I'll keep you abreast of our adventures as much as I can and hopefully we will have good news to report. Tight lines for now.

Decided to come out of o.c. and went towards Somers Point over 9th street and decided to stop and fish some of the bridges. Was only there 10 minutes or so and I got one close to the bridge. Luckily two guys had stopped to fish the other side and the one guy came over to help me land the fish because I don't use a net.It was a little tricky with the bridge abuttments and some telephone poles with barnicles in the way,but I got it! March 24th guys , GET YOUR GEAR OUT!! STRIPERS ARE HERE. (I KNOW, DON'T BE SINGING THIS EARLY!) Any way, a good fish for a short fishing trip. 2 1/2 hours of driving and was home at 10:45!

Location: wreck about 65mi off Margate
Fishing Method: bottom
Specie: Pollock
Size: 8-39lbs.
Bait or Lure: jigs and clam
Water Depth: 240
Water Temp.: 49
Information : We left Blue Water Marina about 5a.m. and headed out to one of my favorite wrecks. I hit this spot on the way home from one of our tuna trips in October and picked a good number of giant seabass and pollock. I have'nt been back since and was not surprised by the non-stop action we experienced today. It took a little time to set up, but by 9:30 we had two spread and double header 4 & 5lb. seabass were the rule for about 2 hours with the pollack hitting periodically on jigs. We stayed at the spot for almost 4 hours and totaled 200 giant seabass to 5 3/4lbs. and 13 pollack to 39lbs. respectively. This wreck was very alive with fish anf I hope to get out there again soon. I have a few spots in close range of this one and hope to try them as well.

There were quite a few fisherman out there but I didn't see anyone get anything. The water was pretty clear, I was able to see about 5 feet. Mostly I saw a lot of crabs (no blueclaws). Date Fished: March 11, 2000
Location: Mud Hole
Fishing Method: Bottom
Specie: Ling (AKA Red Hake)
Size: small
Bait or Lure: clams
Water Depth: up to 170'
Water Temp.: unknown
Information : This was my 1st trip on this boat. There was a crowd of 36 people, despite the awful weather approaching. I boarded this boat, not expecting to do that great in the fishing end, but my 10 year old Niece really wanted to go. We went approx. 20 miles NE out of Brielle. We road out on the bow most of the way to the mud hole, and had a GREAT boat ride, and a few "splashes" of saltwater on our rainsuits. The first drop we caught 1 Ling and 3 nice size Cunners' 12-14", (and chunky). Not many fish were brought over the rail by others, just 2 other ling, and the mate caught 3. We fished a 2nd drop, but didn't stay long. It was hard to keep the boat anchored over the structure due to rough seas and wind. With 1/3 of the people sick on the boat, bad "thunder" weather, and no fish being caught, the Capt. called it quits. We were given $12.00 discounts on our next Paramount trip. My Niece took the $95.00 pool, with a little Ling. I still had a great trip because I enjoy being out on the ocean, and rough seas are fun and beautiful, when you are in a boat you feel safe in. My Niece had quite an adventure. I think the Capt. did his best, and the mate; Paul, was really nice. I will go out on this boat again, once the weather warms, and the wrecks gather more fish around them.

Boat Name:
Date Fished: 3-5-2000
Location: Highlands 1/4 mile N of Bridge
Fishing Method: Scuba
Specie: Winter Flounder
Size:
Bait or Lure:
Water Depth: 15ft
Water Temp.:
Information : Well I dove in about 1/4 mile North of the Highlands Bridge on the west side of the river. The water was the color of tea and I lost most of the light in the first 5 ft. I did not see one flounder although I have to admit that may be due in part to the poor visibility. Other than a few clams I did not see any sea life. I was in the water at high tide in the AM and I was thinking about going fishing at low tide but since I did not see any fish it didn't seem worthwhile. I hope some of you went out and got some fish. Howard
