Bait or Lure: whole mackeral and mackeral chum

Cigar at for some shark fishing. Chummed from 7:30AM to 11:00AM with one shark in

bluefish would eat all the chum except the peices with hooks on them. We were
out-smarted. We then trolled to the 28 mile wreck til 2:00PM and headed in. Could
hear boats from the Glory Hole to the Hot Dog out to the Lindy and Wilmington on the
radio (reception was unbelievable out there!)and I only heard 1, that's right, 1
person catch anything. That was a 175 big eye at the Wilmington. With this warm
water inshore, I can't believe there is nothing around. Hope the tuna move in close
soon.

Location: Hudson Canyon
Fishing Method: Trolling
Specie: Yellowfin Tuna
Size: Small
Bait or Lure: Mini-Mamba Bars
Water Depth: 100 Fathoms
Water Temp.: 67
Information : Captain Phil Dulanie and the crew of the Canyon Runner fished on the
Antionette with the Bill Marchioni charter Sunday and found the fishing slow in the
Hudson Canyon. Only a few small yellowfin were caught. A lack of bait was not the
problem as acres of whales, porpoises and squid were everywhere from the Tip to the
150/050. Perhaps it was just the weekend crowd of 70+ boats or the fact that the
tuna have yet to settle in but all the signs point to the action breaking wide open
soon.

Specie: Fluke
Size: up to 7 lbs.
Bait or Lure: Blue fish strips
Water Depth: 54-70 Feet
Water Temp.: ?

in entire life. We made only 3 drifts all day and limited out in less than 3 hours.
All nice fat fish with biggest at 7 lb.s and many, many 3 and 4 lber's. Bigger the
bait, bigger the fish. We had a couple of huge fish that simply did not come off the
bottom. Going back on Tuesday and will let you know if it's still hot. It looked like
a tuna fleet as there had to be over a 100 boats on the drift. It simply was fluking
at it's finest.

Mako Rodeo Tournament. We started chumming and drifting in the east end of the Glory
hole.
At 10 am the deep line went off and proceeded to strip the 50w. We backed down on the
fish but
when the dacron backing showed, the angler panicked and tightened the drag, snapping
the 100lb line.
At 11:30 the deep line went off again and a mako came quickly to the boat. After
being hit with two tuna gaffs
the fish flapped his tail, bent off the tuna gaffs and sounded. When he came to the
boat the second time the captain hit him with the flying gaff and it was all over.
Back at Hoffmans Marina the mako weighed 180 lb and won the winner take all tournament.

suckers seen in a long time all 15 and a half to 16 inches , broke my heart to put
them back, but we got 4 good keepers. What's next 17 inch fish, salt water license,

Bait or Lure: Crabs and minnows
Water Depth: 15-35

Information : Fantastic fishing continues in Delaware Bay! It's gotten so bad that
boats are not even bothering to leave the dock. On Saturday I marked some fish, but
got no takers from 4:00-7:30pm. Sunday I tried drifting for fluke in the 60ft Slough
and got blanked again ... not even a bite.
We're going to see party boats and bait shops start to go out of business soon. This
is the WORST I've ever seen a fishing season start. Even Atlantic City used to
produce better than this.
Last year you were lucky if you could have a 20 second conversation on channel 10.
Now, there's so few people fishing that you can sometimes talk for minutes.

Location: Lindenkohl and Spence
Fishing Method: Troll
Specie: Dolphin
Size: 15 lb
Bait or Lure: green machine
Water Depth: 500 fathom
Water Temp.: 69
Information : Arrived at the lindy about 9:30am after a less than perfect but ok trip
out. We passed some baitfish and perhaps a pod or two of fish at the 40 fathom line.
While we did not find any life at the lindy, we did hear someone was catching dolphin
there and we heard of a good bite at the Wilmington. Deep in the canyon there was a
good weedline and higher temperatures. We went North to the Toms and found some
nice-size dolphin on the way. Lots a porpoises and whales on the way, too. No tuna.
Stopped at the 40 line on the way back, found some tuna but they spooked quickly and
we could not hook up. Blew up closer to shore but got to dock by midnight.

the south-south east wind really put the "KABOOM" on the action. Someone alse told
me the cycle of the moon also had an effect on the fish. The fluke size was all over
the place from real shorts to 16 or so inches.....no keepers. Well hopefully thing

one, I'll just say it looked very large as he put on quite an aerial display trying

65 to 75 miles out, we tried but couldnt get them to hit. At 78 miles out the water

hour, limit (2 guys), and several break offs and too may misses to mention. Finished
the day with 4 bass, one blue and one flounder in the box. It took forever but what a
great day!!!! Left 'em biting and ran out of bait. All fish on clams and they're
stacked up on the knoll.

Location: Delaware Bay
Fishing Method: Bottom
Specie: Weakfish
Size: None
Bait or Lure: Bucktails, shedders, squid
Water Depth: 15'
Water Temp.: High 60's (?)
Information : If there are any weakfish in the area off Pierces Point they are really
playing hard to get. We fished for about 3 hours around the afternoon high tide
without a single weakfish, though small sharks bit steadily enough to keep things
interesting. At least this was better than 2 weeks ago, when we did nothing but feed
crabs (blue and horseshoe).

Location: Delaware Bay - #1 area
Fishing Method: Anchored
Specie: Weakfish
Size: Puny
Bait or Lure: Crabs
Water Depth: 14
Water Temp.: 72
Information : After suffering through 4 straight trips without even a bite, the blind
squirrel finally got a nut. Apart from the day we bagged two nice stripers, this was
the highlight trip of my 8 trips so far this year.
We started off with 20 miniscule sharks before nabbing a short weakie, followed by 8
more shorts. The 9th fish barely made the legal limit but we had a fish in the box!!!
On the way home, we tried fluking in the 20ft Slough and picked up a nice 2lb
bluefish.
So, the totals for the trip were 1 small weakie and 1 small blue but at least we had
fish in the box and a boat that had to be washed down. I can't wait to computer my
cost per fish at the end of year.
Delaware Bay is DEAD. I can only imagine what will happen if they decide to dredge
the shipping channel from 40 to 45 feet all the way to Philadelphia. There's 150
years worth of lead, mercury, dioxins, and other fun stuff in that river muck. That
should kill the bay for at least 10 years.

Shrewsbury Rocks for our last Striper trip of the Spring. After today it will be a
couple more Sea Bass trips then Sharking for a week and then we head to the canyon
until November. Today's trip provided enough action to keep everyone happy however
we only limited out on 28 inch Bass and had 3 slots. No bonus fish were taken. We
did nail a few more bluefish for this weekends Mako Mania (now if only the weather
will hold and we can use them). Only again the hot lure was the gree/black umbrella
rig though we did pull bunker spoons for a while to no avail.

Fishing Method:
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: 22- 27"
Bait or Lure: sandworm/clams
Water Depth:
Water Temp.:
Information : The caption for my past 2 days fishing (6/9 & 10) would have to be...
"Just Missing the Skunk".
On 6/9, fished the last 3 hours (AM/early PM) of ebb tide just west of West Bank
Light. Chumming with clams yielded 1 16" fluke... not even a sniff from a bass.
After the tide turned, moved to ocean side of Sandy Hook to bucktail for fluke.
Breaking all the acknowledged rules of bass fishing (bright sun & boat traffic ---
bad), I caught a short bass on a bucktail @ 3:30pm in the rip.
On 6/10, fished the morning ebb tide. Caught a 27" bass on sandworm in the rip.
When the traffic got too heavy, moved over to the Knoll to do some clamming. Despite
being in what is usually a prime locale and chumming like I own stock in the
Highlands Clam Depuration Plant, all we managed over 2 hours was a monster blue (nice
long run, then "pop goes the leader"), an almost legal fluke and a couple of sea
robins. What was more discouraging was that during our time on the Knoll, we didn't
see a single fish netted on either the fluke boats or other chunkers (of which there
were many... both private & charters). Right place... wrong time.
