Specie: Fluke
Size: 23" 5 lbs
Bait or Lure: Killies & Squid, Spearing

with three fish over 20 inches. Biggest was a full 23 inches and fat. Caught only two
shorts this fine morning. Weakfish were also cooperating but I was more focused on
the big flatties. Schools of bunker were circling the boat when we took a look in the
ocean. Couldn't coax a striper to strike a freshly snagged menhaden though. Hate to
jinx us... but our keeper ratio on fluke is running about 70% for the season. Don't
be frightened off with all this talk of shorts!

Specie: S-Fin Mako Shark
Size: ??
Bait or Lure: Mackeral
Water Depth:
Water Temp.: 68.5
Information : We entered into the Mako Fever Tourney and picked a bad time to go 0
for 3. We had nothing but three makos on and unfortunately crossed lines all three
times. 2 of the 3 were smaller, but the first one on was the biggest and might have
placed for something in the tourney. The crew and I differed on opinion on the size
of the first one. Judging from about 75 yards and getting a very good look out this
one, I'll just say it looked very large as he put on quite an aerial display trying
to throw the hook and leader he had already broke off. The makos won one the battle
on this fine day. Oh well...anyway the weather was unbelievable and we had a great
time. We'll try our hand at the Tourney again next year. Thanks to Dan Embon and
Mako Fever for putting up with all my questions and answering all my calls very
quickly.

After today it will be all canyon fishing until November as the first eddy of the
year is sitting at the mouth of the Hudson Canyon and off we will go tomorrow.
However, we will be missing some of the best inshore fishing in years as we left the
Sea Bass biting after John's three daughters ages 11, 9, 7 did a good job on mostly
1-3 pound Sea Bass with tons of shorts mixed in. Hopefully this fishing last a while
for you inshore guys and we will see you in November.

Location: Delaware Bay
Fishing Method: Bottom
Specie: Weakfish
Size: None
Bait or Lure: Bucktails, shedders, squid
Water Depth: 15'
Water Temp.: High 60's (?)
Information : If there are any weakfish in the area off Pierces Point they are really
playing hard to get. We fished for about 3 hours around the afternoon high tide
without a single weakfish, though small sharks bit steadily enough to keep things
interesting. At least this was better than 2 weeks ago, when we did nothing but feed
crabs (blue and horseshoe).

Size: some shorts&some keepers
Bait or Lure: squid&spearing
Water Depth: about 50ft.
Water Temp.: about 64

Angler Name : Ron Walker
E-Mail : rwalker@CBIZ.com
Boat Name: MegaBite
Date Fished: 18-Jun-2002
Location: Delaware Bay - #1 area
Fishing Method: Anchored
Specie: Weakfish
Size: Puny
Bait or Lure: Crabs
Water Depth: 14
Water Temp.: 72
Information : After suffering through 4 straight trips without even a bite, the blind
squirrel finally got a nut. Apart from the day we bagged two nice stripers, this was
the highlight trip of my 8 trips so far this year.
We started off with 20 miniscule sharks before nabbing a short weakie, followed by 8
more shorts. The 9th fish barely made the legal limit but we had a fish in the box!!!
On the way home, we tried fluking in the 20ft Slough and picked up a nice 2lb
bluefish.
So, the totals for the trip were 1 small weakie and 1 small blue but at least we had
fish in the box and a boat that had to be washed down. I can't wait to computer my
cost per fish at the end of year.
Delaware Bay is DEAD. I can only imagine what will happen if they decide to dredge
the shipping channel from 40 to 45 feet all the way to Philadelphia. There's 150
years worth of lead, mercury, dioxins, and other fun stuff in that river muck. That
should kill the bay for at least 10 years.

Information : A nice Fathers Day! My son Brian and I went out fishing to try to catch
some Stripers. Trolling Umbrella rigs with tubes we trolled Romer,The Knolls and
Between the Channels. It was a slow day we caught 7 bluefish, two of the mini variety
and five between six to eight lbs.
It was a gorgeous day on the water but the fishing was really slow, with one or two
fish being picked in each location. As we were heading home we caught two bluefish
just south of Romer lighthouse as the wind started to pick up. Not a striper to be had.
A treat for me, fishing on fathers day. Almost as good as the card I got
from my daughter in Fla, which showed a father doing what he wanted for his special
day. "FISHING"

Bait or Lure: sandworm/clams
Water Depth:
Water Temp.:
Information : The caption for my past 2 days fishing (6/9 & 10) would have to be...
"Just Missing the Skunk".
On 6/9, fished the last 3 hours (AM/early PM) of ebb tide just west of West Bank
Light. Chumming with clams yielded 1 16" fluke... not even a sniff from a bass.
After the tide turned, moved to ocean side of Sandy Hook to bucktail for fluke.
Breaking all the acknowledged rules of bass fishing (bright sun & boat traffic ---
bad), I caught a short bass on a bucktail @ 3:30pm in the rip.
On 6/10, fished the morning ebb tide. Caught a 27" bass on sandworm in the rip.
When the traffic got too heavy, moved over to the Knoll to do some clamming. Despite
being in what is usually a prime locale and chumming like I own stock in the
Highlands Clam Depuration Plant, all we managed over 2 hours was a monster blue (nice
long run, then "pop goes the leader"), an almost legal fluke and a couple of sea
robins. What was more discouraging was that during our time on the Knoll, we didn't
see a single fish netted on either the fluke boats or other chunkers (of which there
were many... both private & charters). Right place... wrong time.

our lines in to go home, we saw the float twitch. This mako peeled about 100 yards

Date Fished: Report for the season to date
Location: Delaware Bay
Fishing Method: Blind squirrel looking for a nut
Specie: Striped Bass
Size:
Bait or Lure: The usual baits
Water Depth: The usual depths
Water Temp.: The usual temps
Information : I checked the last two weeks of reports, and I found only 1 report that
referenced my area (Delaware Bay). Either nobody likes to post a bad report or the
far South Jersey crowd do not have computers. There was 1 report from a fraud trying
to hawk a miracle fishing lure made by his buddy. He claimed to have slaughtered the
weakies.
Apart from a nice Sunday 3 weeks ago when we caught a 26 and 27lb striper while
fishing for Drum, this season has sucked big time. The bass are gone, the flounder
are beyond scarce, and the few weakfish being caught have been puny. There are some
small bluefish, but they're of the bait stealer size. The Bay is loaded with
"Flipper" dolphin and maybe that is the cause. It takes a lot of fish to feed a
400lb dolphin.
Last year was a disaster for weakies and this year is shaping up to be worse if
that's possible. I moved my boat to Delaware Bay 3 years ago to escape the Atlantic
City area. Even a blind squirrel gets a nut now and then, so I guess I've become a
blind, deaf and dumb squirrel.
My trips of last Fri-Sat-Sun produced no fish, no bites, a few heads of cabbage, one
snag, a tangle and a hook in my finger (not past the barb fortunately). We marked
some fish at several spots, but they're not biting.
The water is 70+ degrees, and two years ago we had all the weakfish and snapper
bluefish we wanted. What the hell is wrong with Delaware Bay?

Specie: Striped Bass
Size: up to 35"
Bait or Lure: Umbrella Rigs
Water Depth: 30-50
Water Temp.: 58
Information : Hoping to get back in on the great Bass fishing of Friday was a lost
cause on Saturday as the unbelievable crowd of boats put a lid on the fishing.
Captain Phil Dulanie had the Ron Massari charter up to the Shrewsbury Rocks only to
leave early and look for Bass away from the crowd. We found a half dozen between the
channels and got back on the Rocks after the crowd left to finish up with a few
more. All in all not a bad day with 9 Stripers but nothing like the day before where
we had 30 and were back at the dock early.
