Water Depth: 65 '
Water Temp.: ?
Information : Thankfully hit the dock early and grabed the back of the boat for a party of four. Ran
about an hour and almost immedatley started to catch blues on bait. Because of the problems associated
with bluefishing on a head boat (way too many lines with way too many people without a clue) swithched
to jiggin. Caught 3 jiggin and four or five on bait. Overall a good day - not a slaughter but it was
fun. Doris Mae a nice big comfortable boat. Don't take the little ones blue fishing with a crowded
boat - you will only discourage them and the others.

Size: 100 lbs
Bait or Lure: Blue fish fillet
Water Depth: 230
Water Temp.: 72
Information : Fished in the Leonardo Shark T-ment, and headed out to the
Glory Hole. Had first shark a Mako on at 9:30am which turned out to be a
75lb male. Had a few run offs, but never hooked up unsure if it was
bluefish or sharks! But this was the highlight or should I say the scare
of the day. At 11:30 we hooked up with another small Mako, while fighting
the fish it made a sudden turn for the boat and tailwalked across the
water and landed right in the front of our 25 ft center console!!!!!
Lucky no one was hurt!!! We brought the fish into the scales and it
turned out to be 73 inches long and 98lbs. So although this fish would
have been released, after that stunt myself and crew enjoyed him tonight
on the BBQ.

Fishing Method: Bottom
Specie: Weakfish
Size: Short
Bait or Lure: Shedders, bunker, squid
Water Depth: 15 ft

small sharks in the 5-lb range(not sure what species). I did lose one
decent size striper right at boatside that I jigged on a soft plastic

tails weakfish. They're were plenty of them, but just not very big. Pink proved to be the hot color
today and they ignored anything green, white, red or dark.
We ended up with 2 keepers and a small bluefish for my cats. My last two trips (6-27 and 6-30) both saw
increased weakfish activity reported on the radio. Hopefully, July will bring better weakfishing.

Boat Name: SEA ++
Date Fished: 6/30/01
Location: Canyon
Fishing Method: Troll
Specie: White Marlin
Size: 60-70lb
Bait or Lure:
Water Depth: 500 fa
Water Temp.: 74
Information : About 2 weeks ago I posted a catch report from the Hudson
Canyon. One white marlin and a longfin and that we dropped another white.
During the past two weeks my integrity as a person and Captain have been
the talk of the docks south of us, Atlantic Highlands, that this was some
sort of hoax. You know when your one of the fist boats out early in the
season sometimes you get lucky.
Normally I wouldn't respond to this, because the people who know me and
are my freinds would not even ask the guestion. I don't need the
exhaltations or to be patted on the back. I am secure with my ability,
and I'll be the first one to come and wish congradulations with a firm
hand shake. Lets lighten up and call the other guy over when your in the
bite. ANYONE can email me and I'll tell you if and where I caught, no
bull. After 25 years fishing the canyons I have no secrets and believe me
it is not rocket science, it's common sense. I hope this does not get
pulled by this site managers.

Size: to 15 lbs
Bait or Lure: Butterfish & bunker chum
Water Depth: 90
Water Temp.: 73

Paiting, Carlos and Julio, out for a day of bluefishing. We mauled 'em! We hit the edge of the Tolten
Wreck by 7 and had the Bluefish at the boat for the whole trip, limiting out in less than an hour! We
opted to drift & it paid off as we found pod after pod of 9-15 lb yellow-eyed alligators! Best part? A
75 lb class Mako came up in the slick, and Captain Bob rigged a 30lb Penn Rod with a 45 GLS setup with
an 18" wire leader & a standard bluefish rig, got the Mako to bite, handed the rod off to Julio & he had
a ball! We tagged & released the Mako at boatside & it was the finale to a great day of fishing.

Location: 17 fathom & Shrewsbury Rocks
Fishing Method: chum & chunk (bunker)
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: 39"
Bait or Lure: Bunker Chunk
Water Depth: 28'
Water Temp.: 68.5
Information : After traveling out to 17 fathoms with no sign of sea life at all we motored over to
shrewsbury rocks were we started reading fish almost instantly. We set up our chum slick (frozen 5gal
bucket) and began chunking. We caught numerous Dogfish and temporarly renamed the boat the "barking
dogfish" they were fun to catch and went up to 30+ inches and maybe 12 lbs. Finally Christian landed a
beautiful 39" striper that made numerous jumps clear out of the water. While boating this beauty our
net broke in half ! Regardless of the net Walter was still able to bring the fish aboard for the
measurements and then Christian returned the fish to the ocean. A fantastic night on the water -- we
left the dock at 7pm and returned at 1:30am.

Location: Red Church, Long Branch
Fishing Method: Bottom
Specie: Black Sea Bass
Size: 15"-20"
Bait or Lure: Squid,spearing,clam,mackarel
Water Depth: 35-50'
Water Temp.: 68-71
Information : Left the ramp at Bry's around 7:15AM and headed out to a calm and flat ocean with Ed "the
Ex-Grand Poobah" and Crash Coop as mates to me, Sinkem Jonny. Ran up to the Red Church and started
drifting in 35' with a gentle 5mph West wind. Coop quickly tangled with my line and cost me a keeper
fluke in the first 5 minutes!!! After that, the Ex-Poobah went wild and quickly had 12 assorted fish on
the board, including a nice fat 20" fluke, as me and Crash scratched our heads. Ed's rod must have tired
and I finally caught him at 13 fish. Coop decided enuf was enuf and after refueling with a cracked
pepper turkey Hogback hoagie, he passed me like I was standing still at 20 fish. He was unconscious to
say the least. All in all, we ended up with 32 seabass up to my 19 incher and 5 fluke in the cooler. Ed
and I may have gotten the biggest fish of each species, but Crash was the "Big Rod" on a great day on
the briny. Watch out Barnegat, we're headin there on Saturday and even with Ken, we'll catch fish.

be the weak link! Despite engine troubles, we managed several nice fluke along with some blues. No baby

Angler Name : Ron Antonelli - RAFT

Boat Name: Karona
Date Fished: 6-26-01
Location: Klondike lumps + Manasquan Ridge
Fishing Method: drifting - bucktailing
Specie: Fluke
Size: 16" plus
Bait or Lure: bucktail hooks + squid
Water Depth: 47 - 50 ft.
Water Temp.: 70 - 72 dgs.
Information : Left Manasquan inlet @ 9am, headed directly for the 5 + 6 mile lumps. Hit the
Klondike first and fished using two poles, the standard method with extra large squid strips, the other,
a white bucktail skirted hook with squid strips, and within minutes began catching. Fished that area for
1 hr. and caught 3 shorts, all around 15", and 2 keepers 16" + 17".
Moved on down to Manasquan Ridge and did exactly the same thing, fished there for 1 hr. and
caught more large shorts and a couple keepers, 17" - 19". Most of the fish nailed the bucktail + squid
combo with a hard jig up + down.
The water was clear and warm, and it seems like there should be many more fish on these spots,
but that's how it was.
Getting itchy to get off-shore, this in-shore stuff is for the birds !!!!

limit catch of large Seabass up to 3 Lbs. Along with the Seabass 5 Blackfish up to 8 lbs. topped off the

Water Depth: 200-260 feet
Water Temp.: 68-69
Information : Figured it was a longshot but we went out to try and find some school bluefin. This time
last year we were into them. No real blue water out there although it got better as we trolled through
the Glory to the Chicken. No fish or any kind of life anywhere. We were the only boat around the entire
day as well. We didn't see a soul until we came back around the hook. If I were anyone, I would sit at
home until things heat up offshore, it's too long a trip for a slight chance of getting a bluefin
trolling. We managed one knockdown and a bluefish that hit a spreader bar. That fish knocked us out of a
serious coma we were in after trolling for hours. By the way, always add a foot or two to the NOAA
forecast, we had some nice chop out there.

Fishing Method: trolling
Specie: Yellowfin Tuna
Size: Largest 70+ Pounds

Water Depth: 600 ft

Information : Had an excellent first offshore trip of the season on the Ugly Mug out of Cape May with
Captain Tim. We left the Cape May Inlet at 4:00 am amd had lines in the water at just inshore of the
tip of the Poorman's by 7:00 am. Within 5 minutes, we had a double of Yellowfins with one boated.
About an hour later, we boated a nice 20 lb Mahi. We saw life everywhere including a tailing white
marlin and countless crashes of sharks with some makos in the 300+ pound range, pods of 50+ whales,
flying fish etc. The action slowed and we made the 28 mile ride to the Washington Canyon where we heard
of a hot tune bite. Our gamble paid off as we pulled a triple followed by a five bagger of yellowfins
with four of the latter boated. We ended the day with a bakers dozen of yellowfin boated or released
(largest 70+ lbs but most on the small side) and five nice Mahi including four in the 15 to 25 lb
range. We also jumped a white which rushed toward the boat and threw the hook. The water was glassy
almost the entire day which made for a memorable day despite the long ride.

definitely the
60 Kt breeze that hit at 2:30 pm out there. There were a few of us that got caught in it, including Paul
Regula

Information : Sorry for no reports in the last 2 weeks. Spent a lot of time travelling and not enough
fishing. White Rhino's tourney team was short for the JCAA Fluke tourney last week with Worm Arliss out
for a while due to surgery and me unable to fish due to.... well, I was unable to fish, nuff said! Capt
Howie Fried and JJ Hughes went out to the Barnegat Ridge without entering the tournament and came back
with monster fluke. A dozen fish over 3 lbs with the biggest just shy of 8. Certainly would have earned
a place on the board, next time. The rhino was out of the water for a while with an oil pump problem so
only beach trips happened for a week or so, we've had a few different parties out but with very limited
success. Only managed a few short bass and some fluke working all of IBSP for the last 3 or 4 trips. If
I have any good news it's that the big Weaks are showing up at night inside of Barnegat inlet. Great for
our friends and customers who like to light tackle and fly fish from the bulkhead and in the flats
behind the sod banks. The bad news though has been that the big blues (8-10lbs) have been showing up to
and a lot of trophy weakies are coming in just head and shoulders. Reminds me of my Florida days,
catching grouper heads, thanks to cudas and blacktips, bummer. The storm has pushed alot of brown foam
and weeds north to our side of Barnegat inlet, both on the inside and for the entire length of IBSP. We
have a few trips, biz and pleasure lined up for this week, but as I sit here on my first father's day
and look at the dreadful weather, I am wondering if we'll be taking them. I'd like to thank FINZ
Publications as they will be sponsoring me on a trip to Florida, Mexico and Bimini to test some light
saltwater tackle on tarpon, sails and hopefully marlin. I'll be writing articles and will be accompanied
by a photographer. I am hoping I'll get published and promise to keep everyone up to speed. ESPN -- are

Date Fished: June 16
Location: Glory Hole
Fishing Method: Drifting
Specie: S-Fin Mako Shark
Size: 180
Bait or Lure: Bluefish Fillet
Water Depth: 190
Water Temp.: 69
Information : The Canyon Runner crew took the day off to fish the Mako Mania tournament on Saturday and
enjoyed surprisingly good weather and great sharking. Captain Phil Dulanie with his daughter Melissa
(Wall) and Adam LaRosa along with his wife Shari (Manhattan) had mates Mike Zajac (Farmingdale), Bill
Rowan (Atlantic Highlands), and Brad Burgess (Sea Bright) spending the day drifting in the Glory Hole.
Our first bite was at 9:30a.m on the close rod down 20 feet and Brad set up on the fish. Within short
order we had a nice Mako at boat side when she decided she had other ideas. Two jumps ensued, one right
next to the boat where her tail hit the gunnel as she fell back in the water, and the fight was on. 10
minutes later, after dumping half the spool she was back along side the boat and we quickly ended the
battle. Back at the scales at Clarks Landing she tipped the scales at 180 pounds, not huge but good
enough for 3rd place in Mako Mania.

Bait or Lure: speering

Water Temp.:
Information : Yes, "winter flounder" is correct. (No teeth like fluke have) There were a bunch of them
at the mouth of the Shark River inlet. They were easy to catch and, unfortunately, there were fishermen
loading up buckets of these "OUT OF SEASON", and "UNDERSIZED" fish. (Please don't view this as
racist... but I'm seeing mostly Asian-speaking fishermen keep these small flounder.) I mentioned to
those near me that it was not legal to keep these fish, but it didn't appear that they understood me.
Along with the flounder,I also caught a one small fluke, which was promptly returned to the water.

Size: 80lbs.
Bait or Lure: Chum Flys
Water Depth: 125
Water Temp.: 68
Information : I went out on my first shark fishing trip in 20 years on Tuesday. This time it was
different, we were fishing with flyrods. We chunked for 4 hour with nothing but the weather could not
have been more perfect. Thunderstorms the previous night had made our trip effortlessly navigated to our
fishing spot. We saw loggerhead turtles and sunfish on the way out. We set up in about 125 ft of water,
it was as still and flat as a mill pond. These conditions lasted for 4 hours!! We set lines with a mix
of bunker, mackeral and a freshly caught bluefish on a senators staggered short, middle and long. Our
plan was to get the sharks close enough to chunk and then place the fly in the chunk mix. We had our
first visitor about 1:30 PM and he was about 6ft. and 80lbs. This blue shark came in and ignored the
baits and was basically being hand fed. It was scratching itself on the boat. I loaded the underwater
videohousing and placed it in the water with a pole attached we had our visitor at the boat for 45
minutes. We threw three flys and he ate all threw and broke off. My buddy was going for a record on fly
so his leader was shorter. We finally lengthend the leader and it was my turn. My first cast after a few
chunks I hooked up. I finally caught my first blueshark but I don't know if it counts catching a shark
that was already at the boat and I touched numerous times with my hand as a catch. It was like catching
a stray dog that you fed and you finally got a leash on it.Anyway I caught a shark on fly and I got the
shark on the underwater video. Dundun..Dundun...Dundundundundundundundundun.dada!!!!!

Sat morning with no drift and no fish. I had out Ed Tobin tonite for bass fishing in the Perth
Amboy area. With the weather, we stayed close to home, fishing until 10:30pm, and ended up with
seven nice fish up to 31". We ended the night with a triple header and headed in before the
weather caught us. We were the only boat out and left them biting! There is no need to go for
long boat rides folks, it's happening in our backyard!

Fishing Method: Drifting and Dreaming
Specie: S-Fin Mako Shark
Size: 100 pounds
Bait or Lure: Mackrel
Water Depth: 1000 Fathoms

week and enjoyed a peacful night at the 1000 Fathom line of the Hudson Canyon. Setting up for sharks at
11pm we quickly had Blue Sharks to 250 pounds to the boat with several releases during the night. The
highlight at night included a 100 Mako that while it might have made the minimum size was released to
fight another day. Four hours of trolling in the morning convinced us that the tuna were not home and
we ran to a couple of 50 mile wrecks and enjoyed our first action with big cod in a long time. Jigging
for only and hour over one wreck in 180 feet of water produce 10 cod with 4 between 15-20 pounds.
