Boat Name: Mirage
Date Fished: 7/31-8/1
Location: Hudson Canyon
Fishing Method: chunk/troll
Specie: Yellowfin Tuna
Size: 25-60 lbs
Bait or Lure: butterfish live squid
Water Depth: 580
Water Temp.: 74
Information : Capt. Bruce miller and Mirage owner plus friends made a crew trip to the Hudson overnight thursday to friday 7/31. Set up to chunk south of the west wall in 74.5 degree water. Location chosen because of favorable temp chart from offshore sevices. Caught 6 yellowfin tuna to 60 lbs on butterfish and live squid caught in lights. lost 4 more. Trolled for a short time in morning and raised a large white marlin on a reel seat spreader bar but fish quickly threw the hook. Boats to the south and most to the north had poor reports and trolling was slow. Looks like good night chunking is begining. Submitted by Burt Greene

Information : First few drifts were good, everybody catching fish, 1/2 throw backs. As the day got hotter, the fishing got slower. We brought home 2 fluke, 4 weaks and a spike blue. Threw back just as many. Still in all we did better than I expected after Danny moved off the coast. A friend from Hook, Line and Sinker (CVS shopping Center, West Deptford) limited out on fluke, weaks and blues the same day. Just goes to show you, it depends on where you are in the bay. The fish are there, you just gotta find um. For anyone fishing the bay, try using squid & minnow combo, squid & shedder combo, squid & white bucktail top & bottom rig, those were the things that worked on our trip. As always, thanks to Capt. Jim and Arno, the best mate in Fortesque, for a pleasant trip.

Location: Fingers
Fishing Method: Chumming
Specie: Hammerhead Shark
Size: 250 lb+
Bait or Lure: Bluefish filet
Water Depth: 134 ft
Water Temp.: 76%
Information : 10 miles off of Barneget Inlet saw some birds working and quickly trolled up 6 large Blues before heading off to the Fingers. Set up a chum slick with a nice drift due south. Jumbo blues averaging 15lb+ kept us busy all morning. Around 12:15 we had all three lines take off at once. The line out the furthest was hooked by a large Hammerhead measured at over 9 ft long and approximately 250 lb. Initial plans were to tag and release while getting some great action on the video when we noticed a tag already in the shark. The decision to take the shark in for research and the sharks insistance on staying deep ultimately won out as 30lb line gave out. On the way in we witnessed 4 large Humpback whales schooling and dining on small tuna about 12 miles off of Barnegat Inlet.

Boat Name: Canyon Runner
Date Fished: July 5, 1997
Location: Maui, Hawaii
Fishing Method: Trolling
Specie: Blue Marlin
Size: 150
Bait or Lure: Moldcraft
Water Depth: 200 Fathoms
Water Temp.: 83
Information : Sorry that the fishing reports from the Canyon Runner have not been coming in lately, however, there is a good reason, I have not been able to locate a computer in Hawaii. I just spent two weeks there and fished off Maui to nail a Blue Marlin of about 150 pounds which I promptly released and also caught an Ono (Wahoo) of 48 pounds and a bunch of Mahi-Mahi. Anyway, the Canyon Runner has run 8 charters in the past two weeks which I will update our reports accordingly. The fishing in Hawaii was great, but it also served well as a good place for my honeymoon. By the way, my wife Shari, landed the Marlin.
