Bait or Lure: Pitch Bait Ballyhoo
Water Depth: 450'

Jim spent the next 15 minutes fighting one of the best fighting White Marlin we have ever caught before Burgess billed the fish for pictures and the release. This was the fifth White Marlin this week and the most important, as we did not see another fish the rest of the day.

Angler Name : Len and Bobby G.
E-Mail : av8r1@concentric.net
Boat Name: Finest Kind (25 Grady)
Date Fished: 7/31/99
Location: Glory Hole - Resor Wreck
Fishing Method: Trolling
Specie: Yellowfin Tuna
Size: 35 lbs.
Bait or Lure: tuna clones/ spreader bars/ feathers
Water Depth: 150
Water Temp.: 78 to 79 degrees
Information : My Son Bobby and I left Manasquan Inlet at sunrise (in light fog) and rode to the Glory Hole on flat calm Seas. Luckily, the fog was confined to the beach and out to 1 mile only. Got a double header of Skipjack Tuna as soon as the spread was set up at the Glory Hole. We continued to troll the Glory Hole for another 2 hours and caught 3 more Skippies and a small Bonito. We decided to run over to the Resor Wreck and look for "real" Tuna there. We set up and trolled around for 1 hour with no luck when suddenly I spotted a fin in the distance. as we got closer, we saw a HUGE pod of Dolphin! ...Flipper's not Mahi ;) Never saw such a large "school" of em like that before. There were at least 40 of em, and they were jumping clear out of the water, and swimming right next to our boat, as we continued to troll in the area. Bobby wondered if we should pull in the lures, as he was concerned one might get hooked by accident, I assured him they are WAY too smart to bite onto a piece of plastic. They stayed with us for over 15 mins, and at one point we were both up in the pulpt watching them swim along with us just ahead of the bow. We could practically touch them and they were rolling on their sides as they swam to get a good look at us too. It was an incredible and magical experience, and I'm so glad that my Son was there to share it with me. After the Dolphins left, we continued to troll in the same general area, and as we passed upwind (NOT in his slick) of a ProLine sharking in the area, the port tuna clone line went off...Bobby knew right away this was no skippy as the fish almost spooled my International 12T of the 20 pound test Ande. While I cleared the rest of the lines, Bobby expertly kept pressure on and regained some line. After at least 15 mins. of fighting the fish, Bobby passed off the rod to me since his arms were already sore from over-doing it at the Gym last night. I fought the fish for another 5 minutes. The fish did the usual "tuna circle dance" but Bobby did a great job of handling the boat and goosed the engines in a tight right turn in order to keep the line away from the Evinrudes. We finally "saw color" and Bobby was ready with the "Reliable" brand Gaff, and stuck him it the head as the Yellowfin came boatside....and the Gaff broke apart! (NOT TOO "RELIABLE" Huh?) I backed off on the drag as the fish went mad and dove for the bottom again with renewed strength. After another 5 minutes we finally got him back up again and gaffed him with the spare. He still had the Reliable gaff hook in his head as I lifted him in! The Yellowfin measured 33 inches and weighed 35 pounds on my hand scale, not the biggest fish caught on Finest Kind, but one of the hardest fighters for sure! By the way, we trolled a spread of 2 Reel Seat spreader bars from the outriggers, approx 40 feet behind the boat, and feathers on flat lines in the white water (in front of the spreader bars), and two tuna clones places just behind the spreader bars (these tuna clones mathced the color of the spreader bar squids). A long line with a red/white feather completed our set up. Fresh Tuna "Shasimi" for appetisers and Tuna steaks on the Grill tonite! "IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS" :^)

The afternoon bite was even better however as it started with 8 rods hooked-up to Longfin and we boated 7. We then went 3 for 4 and 3 for 3 on additional Longfin putting the 16th tuna in the boat before spending 45 minutes fighting an estimated 700+ pound Blue Marlin which we eventually broke off. All of the action was on the East Wall of the Hudson Canyon and most of the fish took single lures as the Spreader Bars for once did not catch.

Information : Started trolling at the ridge around 8:30AM, hooked up with a small bluefin right away, and our keeper (34") 30 minutes later. Released two more around 34", and lost one at the boat. Caught 3 skipjacks, lost two, kept a dolphin and albacore. Ended the day with a 33" bluefish, probably hanging around due to the three party boats chumming on the ridge (and not having much luck). Beautiful day.

Fishing Method: Trolling
Specie: Yellowfin Tuna
Size: 35 pounds
Bait or Lure: Reel Seat Squid Bars
Water Depth: 600'
Water Temp.: 78
Information : Captain Phil Dulanie and Mate Brad Burgess had the Canyon Runner back out to the canyons on Tuesday with the Stanly Gola charter from Pt. Pleasant, NJ. However, as the action slowed considerably in the Toms Canyon they headed to the Hudson Canyon. The move did not make a difference as the boats in the Toms all ran up to the Hudson to get in on our early bite of Longfin that turned out to be the only bite. We immediately had 4 Longfin on as soon as we got to the Hudson boating 2, but we never found the tuna again. We did manage numerous large dolphin include a couple Bulls. It seems that the almost 80 degree water has hurt the fishing as the Tuna just would not stay up and bite except for very early in the day and there is little bait on no whales to be found.

Information : Several below size Fluke 14 to 15" in shallower water in 20ft. of water. The bigger guys seem to like the deeper water over 40 feet. Several 16 to 18" caught that day off of the Historic Convention Hall where they are presently dedging. In the deeper water several larger Fluke can be caught in depths of 52 to 47ft of water. Caught afew keepers also off of Elberon near the beach but again in deeper water. They seem to like deep cooler water. Had no luck for keepers off Spring Lake, and Belmar. Many caught---at least 30 but none keeper size on two occasions fishing there. Try Asbury on your next trip. Good Luck

Information : Went at it alone today, and went back to the shallows between Manasquan and Spring Lake, fished from 8-1:30.. Had immediate action, and it held up all day long.. Most of the action was between 40-55', inside of 40' there were nothing but shorts.. Picked somewhere between 15 and 20 shorts, with 4 keepers to 19".. Lost a real nice fish about half way up, ruined my day!! Also boated some big robins, skates, and the like.. The red hot rig for today was a plain fluke hook skirted with tinsel, and a big blade with some pink flashies right below it.. Really drew a lot of attention with that rig.. Saw some spanish mackerel swirling around the boat, yes spanish mackerel.. Saw a blue or two, and a short bass come up from a neighboring boat throwing into pods of bunker.. It was frustrating dealing with all the shorts, and dropping quite a few fish, but it was a decent day.. Got enough for a family dinner, so I can't complain! tight lines..

Water Depth: 600
Water Temp.: 76
Information : Captain Phil Dulanie had the Canyon Runner out to the Toms Canyon on Monday with the Guy Biondi charter and got into a nice bite of White Marlin. Trolling the eastern edge of the Toms, Mate Brad Burgess baited the first White within 20 minutes of trolling. The fish came up behind a Reel Seat Spreader Bar and was baited by Burgess on a naked ballyhoo as he pulled the Bar away. Immediately thereafter another White was missed and then the charter spent 15 minutes fighting and boating a 125 pound yellowfin. The action let up until 11:00 when another 120 pound yellowfin crashed a Green Machine Bar. As the boat was taken out of gear to fight the fish, another White Marlin came up behind a Reel Seat Squid Bar and Burgess baited him from the idled boat. The White was quickly released and the fight continued on the yellowfin which was eventual boated.

Commercial draggers were working west of the trunk's base and throwing some bycatch over the side so we trolled with them (along with 3 other boats) but got nothing for our efforts. moved to the 19 fathom lump were 20 boats were on the hook chunking. we trolled the edges of the lump for an hour without a single knockdown. chunkers in the middle of the day werent doing anything either. surprise, surprise. P.S. NWS report misses again. forecast 2-3 ft -- actual nasty 3-4ft chop (with the occasional 5 footer) and a stiff 15 kt S/SW wind!

Information : Thursday nights trip to the Toms Canyon was cut short about 24 miles off in steep 6-8 seas. But we made up for it on Sunday. (see below) Saturday, an Inshore trolling trip with Rumson residents Brian Kane, his friend Terrance, Joe Davidson, his son Chris & girlfriend Dawn Traynor turned out nice. In a pretty good heave, we trolled the 20 fathom line around the Resor wreck and after catching our limit of Bluefin Tuna, we released a half-dozen more during the morning. Moving south to the Fingers area, we trolled up Little Tunnys and Skipjacks. As the water got worse, I started to move north and happened upon a favorite sharking spot. Chris was putting out a small zucchini Zuker, and 30 yards off the stern a beautiful Mahi-Mahi body surfed across the wake and swallowed the lure! Chris had a great fight and we brought home a 50 dolphin. Thanks guys, for putting up with the rough water and toughing out the day. Kudos to Chris Sebode for a great job working the cockpit.

Specie: Yellowfin Tuna
Size: 40 to 80 lbs
Bait or Lure: butterfish/vike jigs/geen machines/zukers
Water Depth: 500 +
Water Temp.: unknown
Information : First canyon trip of the season was non-stop action. The boat started the night chunk around 12:30 am and 1st yellowfin was boated within 1hour on butterfish. Instead of chunking I opted to jig with 8oz Vike jig and boated 8 yellowfins out of 13 hookups. Thanks to our friends at the NMFS who are probably taking kickbacks from the commercial fisherman I had to release 5 tuna due to the 3 yellowfin per man limit. Throughout the night yellowfins could be seen taking chunks as fast as they were thrown out. Once daybreak broke yellowfins could be seen boiling all around the boat so I decided to have some fun and break out the 20lb spinning gear. I threw a pencil popper into the boiling fish and about the 3rd crank I was hooked up and landed a 35lb yellowfin about 25 minutes later. I then took the hooks off the popper and watched yellowfins explode on top chasing the popper all the back to the boat. Once the boat caught the limit on yellowfins Capt.Larson setup to troll longfins around 0700 am with a 11 rod spread. The result 9 hookups at once.Once the fish were boated the mates began setting the lines and only got to the 3rd rod before all were hooked up. Throughout the morning until noon we had double and triple headers of longfins while trolling in the vicinity of whales. On the journey home Capt.Larson stopped at a couple of lobster pots to boat only to add 2 mahi mahi despite seeing schools of dolphin. Overall great day to be in the canyons with a flat calm sea and only 10 other patrons on board.

Information : Took the a.m. trip on the Norma-K with 10 other co-workers in hopes of having some solid fluking.. The boat was completely packed, elbow to elbow with anglers.. It was real tough fishing, with tangles and skates making it a near nightmare.. The mates and captain did a great job keeping the sanity of the anglers, but the fishing was a slow pick at best.. Due to the lack of drift, we were forced to power drift over some pieces of bottom, and that yielded a good portion of the flatties.. There were probably 20-25 keepers boated, with the biggest being upwards of 3 lbs.. Saw some chub mackerel swung aboard as well.. Out of our group, we had about 10 or so fish, w/ four keepers and a load of skates.. Very slow day, and I can't wait to get back out there on MY boat!! tight lines..

Boat Name: Canyon Runner
Date Fished: July 19-20
Location: Toms Canyon
Fishing Method: Trolling/Chunking
Specie: Yellowfin Tuna
Size: up to 100 pounds
Bait or Lure: Butterfish/Reel Seat Spreader Bars
Water Depth: 450'
Water Temp.: 76
Information : Captain Phil Dulanie and mate Brad Burgess had the Canyon Runner back out to the Toms Canyon for the third trip in a row in as many days for an overnighter with the Joe Renaud charter from Philadelphia, PA and loaded all the boxes with a limit of Yellowfin on the chunck. Starting the day trolling we proceeded to boat three big Longfin around 50 pounds and 1 90 pound Yellowfin. Setting up on the chunck we figured we were in for a slow night until we started trolling. We were wrong. We never bothered trolling in the morning as we more than limited out with big Yellowfin on the chunck. The first fish arrived at 11:00 p.m. and we quickly boated 7 35-50 pound Yellowfin. The bite slowed until 3:00 a.m. when for the next 2 hours we had 2 and 3 fish on at a time, boating 10 60-90 pound Yellowfin and releasing another 12 up to 100 pounds, for a total of 32. (By the way, we voluntarily released the Yellowfin as we could have kept 27 under NFMS rules). At times there were 100 Yellowfin visual in and above the slick, clearing the water chasing bait. Many of the fish we released were caught site fishing to avoid have the smaller 60 pounders bite and allowing the 90 to 100 pounders to take the bait. The action, as with the prior two days, was in the Toms Canyon.

A quick move about a 1/4 mile north to the Range wall, and into a little deeper water (30-40') proved to be very productive.. Picked up four keepers in an hour and a half, with a few shorts mixed in, and other junk fish..(robins, leopard skates, etc..) Totals were countless shorts, with 4 keepers between 15.5" and 17".. Most effective rig for the morning proved to be a black bucktail rig with some tinsel coloring along w/ a squid strip and killie combo.. tight lines..

Water Depth: 20-50 Feet
Water Temp.: 70.7-72.1
Information : Anthony and I pulled out of the marina at 5:45AM and headed to an area west of the ammo pier where I have heard reports of good topwater action early in the morning. We soon noticed a commotion on the surface and we both quickly fired off casts with Fin-S Jigs and were both rewarded with bluefish in 2-3 pound class-which is fantastic sport on light spinning tackle. I managed to fire off another cast and landed another blue before the action stopped. With 3 fish in the first 10 minutes we had hopes of a banner day ahead. We moved half down the reqach Channel in hops of hooking into some weakfish. The action was lslow---the first drift Anthony did put 2 weaks and 1 fluke in the box and by the third I added both a fluke and a weakfish-while releaseing a small weakfish. With very little tide or wind fishing was slow. We worked our way back up the channel and i did add another weakie to the box.A few drifts off the point of the Hook produced numerous short fluke and a keeper for Anthony.Another move and some long drifts off the nude beach yielded once again numerous small fluke and an additional keeper for myself.

Location: Lindenkohl Canyon
Fishing Method: Troll and chunk
Specie: Albacore Tuna
Size: 40 lb
Bait or Lure: green machine
Water Depth: 1000 ft
Water Temp.: 78 degree
Information : Got out to the Lindenkohl about 3pm and trolled the tip and a weed line south half way to the Spencer until 9pm. Did not even have a knock down. Saw large schools of porpoises and whales but no fish. Tied up to a ball on the north side of lindey but the upwelling current kept the boat sideways to the waves giving no relief from the 4 foot chop. Chunked one flat of butterfish and picked up a huge blue shark over 200# at 2am. Took some pictures and released. In the morning we picked up one yellowfin about 35# at 7am and then 4 albacore at 8:30 that hit all at once. All but one fish hit on green machines. We were trolling a spreader bar and a teaser and kept changing other lures. Hit a school of skippies at 9:15 but found nothing feeding on them. All of the life we saw was within 2 mi. of the tip. About 10 boats there for the night and there wasn't much radio chatter. Heard some reports of tuna in the Wilmington and someone got a blue marlin there also. Water temps were reading 77 to 78.5 everywhere. Also heard that there was a lot of lumber floating at the 500 fathom line of the lindenkohl.

Water Depth: 130
Water Temp.: 72-74
Information : We ran to the Resor and it was dead just some turtles. I decided to head for the Fingers. As we approached the area the water was boiling with skippies. Everywhere you looked there was fish on the surface. You really had to work through the skippes to get to the bluefin. After a couple of hours with the skippes we finally had a bluefin about 20-25lbs. Then we had one really scream out a lot of line. It was a real nice fish probably about 60 or 70lbs but that fish was lost at boatside. I also saw a couple of Mahi mahi caught. Tight Lines.

Location: Toms Canyon
Fishing Method: Trolling
Specie: Yellowfin Tuna
Size: up to 60+ pounds
Bait or Lure: Reel Seat Spreader Bars
Water Depth: 400'
Water Temp.: 74
Information : Captain Phil Dulanie and mate Brad Burgess had the Canyon Runner out to the Toms Canyon for the second day in a row. With the Dan Potenza charter from Middletown, NJ we loaded the boxes with Tuna. The day started in the same place we left them Saturday as the first attack had 5 Yellowfin hooked-up within 30 minutes of trolling, with the charter still half asleep we only boated 3 out of the 5, however, we immediately were loaded up again with 5 more Yellowfin on at once and boated all five. The bite slowed until noon when the fish came up again, however, this time it was 5 Longfin between 30 and 40 pounds and all 5 hit the deck. Just before leaving early we boated one more Longfin and ended the day with 8 Yellowfin all between 30 and 65 pounds and 6 Longfin between 30 and 40 pounds. The bite again was all on Reel Seat Spreader Bars and centered around dozens of Finback Whales feeding on squid in 400 to 600 feet of water. Hopefully these two trips are a good sign of a long and fruitful canyon season as the Canyon Runner will be trolling the edge everyday the weather allows between now and the end of October.

Action sounded like it was sporadic at best in both of these areas. Mike of the Miss Judy, one of our teammates, had a blue marlin at the baltimore. He says that the tuna and dolphin action has been very good at Haines notch.

Water Depth: 40 - 55
Water Temp.: 67

Bait or Lure: squid & spearing
Water Depth: 30 ft.

Information : Capt. Paul Regula ran the Bounty Hunter out of Clarks Landing Marina with the John Adamcik charter up to Monmouth Beach for what turned out to be the hottest Fluke fishing day of the season. Drifting in 25 to 30 ft. of water with squid and spearing baits the fish bit immediately and the bite never really slowed down. By early afternoon 40 keeper Fluke the largest at 5 lbs. filled the cooler. At least another 30-40 fish were released when they just missed the legal size by 1/4 to 1/2" Fluke fishing just does not get any better then it was on this day.

Information : Captain Phil Dulanie and mate Brad Burgess had the Canyon Runner out to the Toms Canyon on Saturday on the first of many canyon trips to come. Fishing with the Rich Brady charter from Manhattan, NY. , the Canyon Runner started their 1999 canyon season with seven rods going off within 20 minutes of trolling the Toms Canyon. With only 4 guys on the charter we had our hands busy and ended up boating 5 Longfin out of the seven hooked-up. We proceeded to go 1 for 2 and 2 for 3 on Yellowfin between 30 and 60 pounds and ended the day catching dolphin on the inshore lobster pots. Most of the tuna hit Reel Seat Spreader Bars and Jets with the Bars, as always the favorites (we don't leave home without them). We fished the entire day in the same spot as whales, porpoises and the bait did not move more than a quarter mile the entire day.

Water Depth: shallow

Information : I've been having some luck fishing on the jetties and beaches in Spring Lake and Avon. When the bass or shad aren't hitting I've been able to pull a fluke or two out from along the jetties. I don't think that there is a message board on this site, so I want to make a statement without trying to sound like a preacher. I have caught 4 keeper bass this spring and summer, and a whole bunch of shorts but I haven't kept one of them. I haven't even seen that many keeper fish pulled up on the beaches or from under the bridges, but I keep reading about all of these charters catching and keeping what I would presume to be 10-15 lb. 30"-32" fish. Why not let them go? Let them get really big. 4-5 year old fish are the ones that are doing the bulk of the reproduction for the species. If these larger fish are being kept for the table you are missing the boat, the smaller fish are the ones that are tasty. Put the fluke and weaks in the box, and let the big bass go!!!! Hey charter boats - try to convince your clients to let them go too!!!

Water Depth: 145
Water Temp.: 71
Information : Captain Phil Dulanie had the Leroy Arms charter from Washington, D.C. out on the Canyon Runner Thursday and found that the warm clear blue offshore water we were catching Bluefin Tuna in was replaced by the Northeaster with cold dirty green water with Bluefish. Trolling from the Glory Hole to the Chicken down to the Triple Wrecks produced a dozen Skipjack some Bluefish and one 17 pound Mahi-Mahi. With the trolling action slow at best, the crew decide to jig one of our favorite offshore wrecks and on the first drop pulled a 16 pound pollock. Unfortunatley that was it for the Pollock bite and we went back on the troll until 4:00 am with no more knock-downs.

Information : Decided to spend a night on the water searching for Blues. Fished w/ my father in law and my friend Tom's son Robbie. The ocean was a little rough when we hit the inlet. The E/NE wind was kicking up a good ground swell. The Capt. and crew were great!!! The Capt. worked to put us on the fish; we were over 30 miles from the inlet (north of Sandy Hook) when we anchored. It started out slow w/ my father in law catching the first fish. After an hour it picked up. To catch the fish we tied the hooks directly to the mono, no leaders!!! Both my father in law and I had our limit of 10 fish each, I had the largest fish and won the pool. Robbie was a little under the weather and finally woke up to catch 2 fish to finish the night. Overall it was a great trip, the capt. and crew were great, the fishing was good. I have been out on the Norma K III in the past and will be back out on her again. It sure beats washing your own boat. It was a nice relaxing night on the ocean. The only down side was getting up today for work. Tight lines.... Information : Started the day with a shark trip to the Resor. No sharks. Than we trolled from the Resor to the Glory Hole, nothing. While trolling the Glory to the Ledge we boated a large dolphin, and measured a Bluefin at 33 inches. Oh we did manage to get several expensive baits mauled by the nasty bluefish. We were trolling at 7.5 knots and those big buggers had no problem making a meal of the plastic. Too bad the NMFS has to shut the Bluefin season down just when it is getting started! I paid my $25 bucks for the yellowfin lawsuit; but I will not derive much benefit because my 28' Bertram is not a "big canyon runner". It would be nice if the RFA could do something for the inshore Bluefin guys. See you out there.

Information : With the oncoming blow due for the weekend, I pushed a Hudson Canyon Trip through for Thursday night instead of Friday. We arrived 4 am, and really didnt mark much life. In speaking with overnighting chunkers on the way in, they reported a dead night of fishing. Trolling from the mouth to the West Wall, back across the Hudson to the East Wall and up the 100 fathom line, the first bites were experienced at the Heel, where lobster pots were holding scores of Mahi-Mahi. We kept two 4 footers, but every pass of certain pots yielded dozens of the little grasshoppers running after our lures. This combined with tons of whales & porpoise made it a great ride for first time canyon tripper John Maynard Jr., who pulled a nice Mahi and two other Tuna. Congratulations John! After trolling to the tip and spending time with five boats pulling ballys and not doing much, I picked up and ran to the Tower, trolled for a few miles to the Baccardi not marking any life. Just on a hunch, I picked up again and ran quickly to the Chicken Canyon, where we were treated to a really good Bluefin bite . . . probably the best of the season! Funny thing is, the longer we stayed the bigger the fish got. We boated our limit and released (some intentionally, others not quite so . . .) about a dozen more, with a couple of real gamers that tested really experienced fishermen on standup 50 two speeds! After the weather broke on Saturday, with Sundays forecast looking brighter, I ran off again to the Chicken Canyon. Well, anyone who was out early on Sunday morning running in the ocean is well aware of how crummy the water was. It was like a washing machine, you could barely pick out the current. Although the bite was not as hot as last weekend, there were two dozen boats spread out and decent catches of Bluefins and Mahi-Mahi. We limited out on Bluefins.

Bait or Lure: Reel Seat Mini Mamba Bars
Water Depth: 125'

Information : The Canyon Runner with Captain Phil Dulanie at the wheel and Brad Burgess in the cockpit got into some excellant inshore Bluefin fishing on Saturday. With NOAA blowing another forecast of 20 to 25 knots winds we fished in calm seas with an occasional swell which provided perfect conditions to troll the Reel Seat Mini Mamba Bars we employ. Dropping the lines in the water just west of the Resor at 9:00 a.m. we immediately had fish up in the spread but dropped the first two before boating a 44 inch 60 pound Bluefin. Trolling the same area and a few miles south we proceeded to boat and release two 35 inch 25 pound Bluefins hoping for another bigger one. We found them as six rods went off which include 3 50 pound Bluefins, one we lost and two we boated with one released, Skipjack and one Dolphin. Most of the Bluefins hit the Reel Seat Bars as well small Melton jets. We were on our way home by 2:00 p.m. with a catch of 3 50-60 pound Bluefin and 2 25 pounders plus Dolphin as well as a dozens Skipjack. A much better catch of tuna then the canyons have been producing and much closer to the beach.

Information : Anthony and I left the dock slightly before noon. Our first stop was in Chapel Hill Channel to see if any weakfish were on the prowl & also give a chance for the flood tide to swing around to the ebb so we would have ideal drifting conditions off the beach.Although no weakfish were caught,Anthony did box a keeper fluke and I dropped another nice flattie.Once the tide swung we moved off the beach front and began our first drift at the southern end of the nude beach. We found a nice pocket of fluke ( keepers & shorts ) and repeated the same drift 3 times--adding another 5 keepers and easily 3 times as many shorts. We decided to head in for a late lunch of clams on the half shell and a refreshing beverage or two before heading back out in hopes of getting a late afternoon weakfish bite.We went in the back of Raritan Bay to areas that have produced recentally and in the past for us-but other than a few hits on Fin-S Jigs ( most likely from snapper blues ) and 2 short fluke caught by Anthony-no weakfish were found.

Information : got under way about 7am, from belmar. got to the inlet and found the fog! waited til 8:15 before following a long line of boats out only to find more fog just outside. decided to move REAL slow and heading east hoping for the burnoff. water temp was in the 59-62 range until reaching the mudhole near the Goulandris and Mudwreck, then right up to 70-72!! didn't mark any fish until the temp picked up. started marking as we crossed the first dropoff and picked up the first one shortly thereafter. all day only caught fish trolling across the face of the swells at between 7-8mph. fish got bigger as the day wore on. great time for my neighbor, phil, on his first real offshore trip. he also caught a small bonito. saw one big shark, but it wasn't interested in the offering. an even dozen in the boat, with 4 fish spitting the hook at the boat, one real big one lost. back into the fog on the way in with 1/4 mile vsby, or less, 3 miles from the buoy.lifted just at the inlet. seas were great all day with 3-4' swells to start, and smaller as the afternoon approached. hope the captain that was at sea girt reef, asking about the water temp , finally got into some fish.

Fishing Method: Bottom
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: 16"
Bait or Lure: Blood Worms
Water Depth: 5"
Water Temp.: 78
Information : Fished dead low tide off Tinicum Island which is slightly south of the airport. Fish were jumping as we anchored. Before the boat settled I had four. Mix of stripers and catfish. Many double headers with often one of each. Lots of silver perch to steal bait. Biggest channel cat was 3 or 4 pounds and biggest stripers were 17". Continuous non stop action for over an hour. After, a decent steady pick. Got so hot the four of us deciced to join the fish and cool off. Lost count but we easily got 40 to 50 fish and everyone was released.

Date Fished: 7/1/99
Location: Avon Jetty
Fishing Method: Fly rod
Specie: Striped Bass
Size:
Bait or Lure: Black Clouser
Water Depth: Shallow
Water Temp.: 68
Information : I fished off of one of the Avon jetties and had some luck this am. One other guy picked up 2 short bass, and I caught 2 keeper fluke along the jetty close to the beach. Both fish were right on the limit, but they were 16" and fat. Missed a bass too, but I think he was just looking at the fly. That was about it. There are always fluke in the jetty pockets in Avon. Haven't been skunked in 4 trips in there.
