Angler Name : Ken Maher
E-Mail : squonk@optonline.net
Boat Name: Gambler
Date Fished: 1/13/2007
Location: Wreck to the SE
Fishing Method: Bait & Jig
Specie: Black Sea Bass
Size: 1.5- 6lbs.
Bait or Lure: Clams
Water Depth: 210 Ft.
Water Temp.: ?
Information : We went 75 or so miles to the SE and anchored on a wreck in 210 Ft. just before dawn. A couple of Seabass came over the rail before the sun came up. Just after dawn, the Capt. repositioned the boat and the action heated up quickly. Lots of good size Seabass and surprisingly BLUEFISH There must have been 75 to 100 of them. The first two I caught ate my clam and I jigged one trying to catch Pollock at little later. The Seabass were mostly good sized with plenty of them in the four to 5 plus lb. range. A handful of Porgies were landed as well as two Pollock. The larger of the two Pollock (about 8 Lbs.) won the pool. The Captain moved the boat 4 times on this piece so it must have been a pretty good sized wreck. The conditions were a little rugged due to some fairly serious swells. I managed 22 Seabass, 1 Porgy and 3 Bluefish for the day. I jigged one of my biggest Seabass. This was the first time on the Gambler for me, Gene Quintieri and Mike Lewis. I can say the boat is well designed, fast and the mates were very helpful. I had Seabass made two different ways last night and will do the same tonight. What a great eating fish! Tight Lines Ken

Angler Name : Capt.Ron
E-Mail :
Boat Name: Fishermen
Date Fished: 1/07/07
Location: ocean
Fishing Method:
Specie: Striped Bass
Size:
Bait or Lure: jigs
Water Depth: 46
Water Temp.:
Information : Started out the last morning of the season with plenty of bird life in between the channels, only problem, we didn't catch a third of what was there! Fish moved fast chasing the bait, we'd catch a handfull of shorts then move. A couple of keepers, with Rocco Farina ending the season like he started..catching the pool fish! By 10:00am all life seemed to totally dissaper...bait was gone, so were the fish with the exception of a stragler here and there. Looked out to the East in deeper water NG..back to the channels, where it took hours to get any current..unlike yesterday when at times we drifted at 4 knots! Absolutly gorgeous day weather wise, but no way to finish out the season....Thanks to all again. I hope to do some fishing with Dad in Florida, after watching everyone else for 9 and 1/2 months, now it's my turn...watch out muttons here I come!! See you in April. Capt.Ron

Specie: Tautog
Size: up to 10 LBS
Bait or Lure: Green Crabs
Water Depth: 50
Water Temp.: 50
Information : Started north this morning with a nice roll out of the south. I was a little concerned that the tog wouldn't want to bite. We anchored up on a litle piece in about 50 foot of water and the fish came right away Ron Long had the hot hand again, scoring 11 keepers up to about 9 LBS. Richie Wang had his limit + of fish to about 8 LBS. Abe had 8 fish up to around 7 LBS. There were very many large fish caught today up to 10 LBS. The boat had it's limit and even released some extra keepers. With the water temp where it is and the number of quality fish around, the next few weeks looks very good. Call Captain Ray at 732-803-6276 for reservations.

Location: ocean
Fishing Method:
Specie: Striped Bass
Size:
Bait or Lure: jigs
Water Depth:
Water Temp.: 48 !!!!
Information : Tough day today, picked a few small fish, a couple of keepers, nothing to even mention really...except the fact the Billy Wagner, Wayne, NJ had 9 fish and 2 keepers! Naturally he waited till the end of the season to get hot....Had plenty of bait, still read lots of fish but we did have a very nasty roll in the channels all day. It only got worse as the tide started to run out. Went from one channel to the other, out to the East with pretty much the same results...tomorrows weather looks much better as far as conditions go. Hopefully will finish out the season on a positive note. If not, April is just around the corner!!! Capt.Ron PS: Water temp today was 48 and as high as 51 degrees!! Unbeleavable.............January????

A man arrived 30 minutes after I did (200 feet down from me) and by the time I caught one fish he already caught 5, so they are still out there, but nothing bigger than 20 inches that I saw.

Boat Name: fishermen
Date Fished: 1/04/07
Location: ocean
Fishing Method:
Specie: Striped Bass
Size:
Bait or Lure: jigs
Water Depth:
Water Temp.: 45
Information : Thought I was in a time warp..is it April already?? Unbeleavable weather!!! Had bird life right off the bat..got a nice shot of fish, even 2 keepers on the first drift, then it went buggy for an hour. Ran up and down the channel looking and stopping on readings, told the guys to be patient, when the tide starts to ebb the bite will happen..sure enough, ran to the North for the start of the outgoing and like magic, here they come! Much better fishing today as far as the action and keepers go. Many of the fish were 25 to 27 inches and had to go back. Gannets, Herring and Butterfish..doesn't get any better than this! Joe "Big Ass" Korek, Livingston, N.J. did it again winning the pool with a very nice 16 pound fish. Don't know how he does it, but he always manages to catch a big one!! Great start to the 2007 season, but we will end it on Sunday....Don't want to push my luck! April is just around the corner....capt.ron

Boat Name: FISHERMEN
Date Fished: 1/3/07
Location: ocean
Fishing Method:
Specie: Striped Bass
Size:
Bait or Lure: jigs
Water Depth:
Water Temp.: 45
Information : Totally different day today! No wind, no sea..and the fish really did bite. Had life right from the start in the channels, never had to leave all day. Once we got some outgoing, the bite was a bit better. Not big fish, but plenty of action. Had only a couple of keepers..but who cares, it's JANUARY for gods sake!! Thought I would be shoveling snow by now, so this is a real treat...Sunday will be our last trip for the season, don't want to push my luck with all the great weather we have had and good fishing, I'm sure it will come crashing down...and you know how much I hate that! Rather get it, before it gets me. Thanks too all for your support this past season, like I have said in the past, I have the best customers in the world! Thank you....capt.ron

Location: ocean
Fishing Method:
Specie: Striped Bass
Size:
Bait or Lure:
Water Depth:
Water Temp.: 46
Information : Tried to fish today....Sun came up, wind started howling, 38 knots. Even with the outgoing tide it was a nightmare! Headed down the rocks looking for some life. Read some bait and had a few gannets diving, gave it a few shots, then realized the gannets where laughing at us, not looking for fish!!! Thought conditions would improve between the channels after 2 hours of outgoing, so we headed back up to the North..got there and never stopped the boat..had to pull her out of gear twice with the rollers in between...gave the guys a comp. trip for the next time and came home....Water temp was still 46 and read a load of bait at the point of the hook, so we may get a couple more shots. Sunday will most likely be the last trip...who the hell fishes for Stripers in January??????? capt.ron
