Angler Name : Bob
E-Mail : Weaves27@aol.com
Boat Name: Hydro Cat
Date Fished: 1/26/00
Location: Wilmington Canyon
Fishing Method: chunking
Specie: Bluefin Tuna
Size: 50-400lbs
Bait or Lure: Bunker/Butterfish
Water Depth: deep
Water Temp.: 53
Information : An unusual warm eddie hit the canyons this past week, and believe it or not, we decided to give the canyon one last chance. You may think this is crazy, but the fishing was nothing short of excellent. As soon as we began chunking there was immediate action! The majority of the fish in the beginning were bluefin tuna!!!! Shortly after, sharks showed and the tuna fishing was over. Even though that ended the tuna action, the sharks were really fun too. We caught about a dozen including a large thresher! Can't wait til next season! Tight lines!!!!!

Angler Name : Nick Huzar
E-Mail : s0263334@hawkmail.monmouth.edu
Boat Name: Capt Lou VII
Date Fished: 1/23/00
Location: 60-80 miles off Freeport, L.I.
Fishing Method: wreck
Specie: Black Sea Bass
Size: 12in.-5lbs.
Bait or Lure: clam and squid
Water Depth: 240-280ft.
Water Temp.: 50
Information : After being blown out the week before we were finaly able to get out to the offshore wrecks. The wind was very calm as we left the dock at 2a.m. The seas were calm the whole ride out and the offshore grounds looked like a lake as I awoke about 6:30a.m. We were anchored up on the first wreck about 8:00a.m. and the action started immediately. It was double and triple header seabass for for about 45 minutes despite the strong current. I had to use 20oz. of lead the whole day, bur anglers with lighter line were able to get away with 12 or 14. The ocean remained calm throughout the day and the fishing was similar at the second wreck with giant seabass dominating. Around noon the wind picked up a bit and the rain began to fall. At the third wreck the which was almost 300 ft. deep, the current was even stronger and the catching diminished. The rain also added to the uncomfortable conditions Everyone caught a bunch, but there were realy no big pool fish. I think a pollack about 10lbs. took the money. I had a large fish on during the day, probably a pollack, but my hook broke. I usually use gamakatzu hooks, but this rig had mustads. Thats what I get for being cheap. By the three whistles I wound up with 35 seabass 20 of which were 2.5lbs. or better. I also caught 2 big ling and 2 porgies about 1.5lbs each. All in all it was a good trip. The boat is beautiful and the trip is limited to 30 fares. The mates were excellent and Capt. Anthony Gilespe formerly from the Starstreem did a great job. I highly recomend the offshore trips on the Capt. Lou VII.

Water Depth: 65 feet

Information : Fished the only fishable day there was. Saterday was a beatiful day to be out on the water. The wind calmed down to nothing by early morning. I started the day with a 9LB. tog. It was the biggest black fish I ever landed. (It gets better) In the afternoon I landed a 11.5LB. tog. There was a 13LB. fish caught also. We ended up with 24 keepers and 11 of them over 7 LBS. Only four guys on the boat. We all were very pleased with the day. Dennis is the guy that caught the 13LB. tog, after landing that fish he hooked into another monster tog that we think was in the 15 LB. range. I keep thinking that the season. ( I don't think so)

One guy had a 10.5LBS fish and a 8LB fish. The boat ended up with 59 keepers and a lot of shorts, no Beguals, all the bites were Black fish hits. Capt. Pete did a great job finding fish. Boat Name: The Brat
Date Fished: 1 - 8 - 9 - 00

Fishing Method: Jiggin
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: up to 35 inches
Bait or Lure: Hopkins - Bucktails w/ white worms
Water Depth: 20ft - 40ft
Water Temp.: cold for us humans but warm for the fishies 47degrees
Information : The crew of the Brat decided to make an unusal mid winter run for the ever elusive Striper. Thinking that we had no chance for fish, we figured that if we did not catch we would take a boat ride and freeze our rods off and have a good time. Leaving the dock about noon we went south out of Longport. With in seconds Davin spotted a large flock of birds off of the Flanders, a hotel that everyone knows. We were very surprised to see the birds let alone to be catching fish in January. They were hitting Buckies and Hopkins and there stomachs were full of Peanut Bunker and Herring. The fishing slowed down alittle in the mid to early afternoon but we decided to head south to the sea isle lump. In route, we passed the Corson Inlet area and we were amazed that we ran into a huge flock of birds about 3 football fields in size. The fish got bigger and the action was non stop. What a day. Sunday was the same with rain but the fish got bigger. What a weekend........we will try again next week. Hope they are still there.

I didn't catch one, neither did a bunch of people, but the trick was the five ounce Krocodile that is very elusive and if you have them, don't show them or even tell anyone that you have them. Keep them with the Spam and bottled water that you have left over from Y2K in your basement bunker. Check out the Star Ledger tomorrow 1-4-99, and Capt. Al Ristori, who was on the boat with us as an angler, will shed his light on the story. He didn't catch anything, FYI. Questions? Email me. PS. Go fishig with a NW Wind, SW sucks.
