Location: mud hole/17 fathom bank
Fishing Method: bait

Size: 1-3lbs
Bait or Lure: clam, squid, crabs
Water Depth: 150-170ft
Water Temp.: unknown
Information : fished from about 6am to 2pm, wanted to touchdown early, it always
seems like a good bet to hit the fish during breakfast time. I mean if a fish wanted
to catch you wouldn't it be best to try when you were waking up in the morning
starving, and looking for food? anyway, touched down at around 6 anchored up, tied
up the size 2 gamakatsus(never fish without'em) linked with a combination of clam
belly, and nice squid tentacles hanging off the bottom with the hook slightly
exposed. within about 3 hours my boss and I hooked into approximately 32 ling,
ranging in size from i'd say 8 or 9 oz, up to just under 4 lbs. this method hooked
us into some nice seabass as well, biggest we saw hit the deck came on my hook at
6lbs 7oz, of course we picked up some unexpecteds as well, such as doggies, a
flounder(go figure) and 2 stupid bluefish. nice day out, ended up with about 54
ling, 17 seabass, 4 blackfish, and a couple garbagefish. nice day

Boat Name:
Date Fished: 2-5-02
Location: Manasquan Inlet
Fishing Method: Herring Rig
Specie: Herring
Size: 12 inches
Bait or Lure: Herring Rig
Water Depth:
Water Temp.:
Information : If you have cabin fever head to the Manasqaun Inlet and fish the moving
tide. The herring are all over the place, and the suckers fight nice on light
tackle. You can smoke em, pickle em, freeze them for bait or release them. Herring
makes great bait for just about everything from Ling to Stripers. Tip: Cast out
about 25 feet from the bank and let the jig sink to the bottom, jig it and retrieve
very slow and you should hook up. If that doesn't work watch one of the old timers
they usually have a fish on all the time.

Information : About New Jersey Coast bottom fishing. Late January thru late
March are notoriously slow times, as are July and much of August. The reasons why it
is slow at these times is that there is no movement of fish. Ling fishing starts to
get good in Early December when most people are still blackfishing or even sea bass
fishing.
The first month of this fishing can easily see 30 to 50 small to large ling
boated. As time goes on and the blackfish stop biting, the ling are heavily
pressured. There is no real fish movement until the ling come inshore to spawn in
April, so the fish get pounded down. You can still get a few fish dinners, but 10 is
a good catch; this is roughly the same thing that occurs with sea bass in the
summer. My goal is usually to get 1 fresh fish dinner for 3 and hopefully catch up
with some friends. Hoping to fill a cooler on a party boast in Feb and March is not
very realistic. So if you lower your goals a bit and pick the right day, you can
still have a good time.
If you really want to fill a cooler with ling, fish for them in December, or on
July and August Mud Hole trips on the party boats that run them. By the same token,
if you want to catch a nice mess of Sea Bass, go on Winter Offshore trips, May and
early June inchore trips and September inshore trips.
Tight Lines.
