Boat Name: Doris Mae 4
Date Fished: Sunday Feb. 27, 2000
Location: Out of Barnegat Light
Fishing Method: Bottom
Specie: Ling (AKA Red Hake)
Size: Averaged 1 & 1/2 lbs
Bait or Lure: mostly clams
Water Depth: Approx. 150'
Water Temp.: Unknown
Information : I enjoyed the boat and ocean atmosphere, but the fishing left alot to be desired. I picked this trip thinking I'd get a chance at some wrecks that were out a little further and not hit so hard. We ended up fishing the same wrecks as the daily 8 hour boats, we just had a few more hours to do it. We made 3 drops. I believe I was one of the high hooks, and went home with 10 Ling. I caught 23 total; (10 Ling, 11 cunners, a throw-back Pollock and a yellow-bellied hacklehead.) The guy next to me caught 1 ling, and his buddy didn't get any. Unfortunately, out of 31 people, alot of others fit into that catagory. Incidentals included; a couple sand sharks, an eel, and a couple short pollock. The sea was mostly calm, with some swells that were far apart, skys were overcast, visibility was low, and A cold front was on it's way. I still went home happy, but felt bad for some of the other fishermen aboard. I fished this boat close to the same time last year, and the situation was much different. Maybe it was just an off day.

Boat Name: 125' Jamaica
Date Fished: 2/20/00
Location: offshore Manasquan Inlet
Fishing Method: bottom fishing
Specie: Ling (AKA Red Hake)
Size: 1 -4 lbs
Bait or Lure: clam
Water Depth: 150 -250
Water Temp.: ?
Information : Had a nice trip with this fine captain and crew. Thirty or so passengers made for good company as well. I wound up with 19 ling and a throw back pollack. There were a handful of keeper pollack and cod as well as a jumbo white hake...or was it purple? All the passengers caught their share of ling which seemed to be the only game in town. Captain Howard stopped on four wrecks. Conditions: NNW 20 - 25+, Cold, 6'-8' seas. Very comfortable boat. Look forward to fishing there again.

Boat Name:
Date Fished: 2-15-00
Location: Belmar boat basin
Fishing Method: diving
Specie: Winter Flounder
Size:
Bait or Lure:
Water Depth: up to 15 feet
Water Temp.: cold
Information : I just wanted to let all the winter flounder fisherman waiting till the season opens that there are lots of flounder in Shark River. We did a little scuba diving just off where the docks are being rebuilt and we saw plenty of them. They seem to be nice and fat and of a nice size too. I removed an anchor that has been catching a lot of rigs so maybe that will help a few guys. It was COVERED with rigs and sinkers, I have recovered about 50 sinkers and rigs tied with yellow beads so far and I am not done yet. Don't forget that the big Fishing Flea Market is coming up March 19 th at Toms River High School East and the Scuba Flea Market is Feb 27th at the same place. If you think these underwater reports are of any value let me know and I will keep sending them in.
