Boat Name: Capt. Cal-Belmar, N.J.
Date Fished: 12/19/04
Location: Elberon (2 miles off)
Fishing Method: Double anchor
Specie: Blackfish
Size: 3-11 lbs.
Bait or Lure: green crabs
Water Depth: 50 ft.
Water Temp.: 47 degrees
Information : This was the day that you always hear about the day after. Forty anglers caught over 150 "togs" up to 11 lbs. One angler caught and released 25. It was a make up day for all the other so-so days you fish so hard for a couple of keepers. Capt. Brock Dalton was on his numbers twice and held both spots quite well. I got a lickin' all morning with just two fish watching everyone else hammering blackfish. It started out in the usual blackfish sort of way. But in the afternoon, I caught eight in a row filling my quota. They had me talking to myself all morning. Ten ounce sinkers, 40 lb flurocarbon leader tied onto a size 4 Virginia hook turned things around.

I almost turned around and bagged it, But the sky looked clear south so we keep going. We got about to Lavellette and it was going off! Stopped on the first flock of birds and had a mix of bass and blues with none stop action for about an hour. Bait or Lure: Krocodile Spoons
Water Depth:

Today 23 fares accounted for 1 slot bass (taken on the first drop), 3 twinkies (taken on the the last 2 drifts) & 1 bluefish (taken sometime during the middle of the trip).
Niether Jason or I had so much as a bump all day.
Only bird life we saw was at the beginning of Sandy Hook. That's right, I said Sandy Hook we steamed north (making a drops on bait readings as we went) from Manasquan Inlet until we were 1/4 north of the Highlands Bridge. Made a few more drops on our way back south, then moved offshore in the area of the Klondike before ending the day with a few drifts tight to the beach about 2 miles north of the inlet.

Location: Ocean
Fishing Method: Jig
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: up to - 6 lbs
Bait or Lure: Jig
Water Depth:
Water Temp.:
Information : No one can say that this captain takes the easy way out and does not give you 100 percent!
Down the beach as far as the eye could see there was life. Birds diving on peanuts, large ocean herring and bass, bass and more bass with a fair number of blues mixed in is the report from this angler. Captain Ron adjusted constantly to keep us on the action even when the fish got boat shy and finicky. The day ended as it began with consistent action. Personally landed around 20 fish mostly skipping a 27 on the bottom, a 4oz crippled herring worked in the same manner. Fish were mostly shorts and slots; the biggest on the boat was perhaps 14 lbs. A great day in December and beautiful weather to boot!

Boat Name: Gambler
Date Fished: 12-05-04
Location: Asbury Park-Long Branch
Fishing Method: Jig
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: 12-35.5"
Bait or Lure: 5 & 7 Ounce Krocodile Spoons
Water Depth:
Water Temp.: 50
Information : Once we broke Manasquan Inlet we made a beeline north and didn't stop until we were slightly north of Asbury Park. Fished between here & the Red Church in Long Branch anywhere from 3/4 mile to 2 miles off the beach. Birds were up & working all day. From small patchs to about an acre.
Fares had bass right right from go on the first drop. Took Jason & I a few minutes to figure out the speed of the retrieve they wanted but once we did we were into bass as well. At first all you had to do was drop to the bottom and reel back. Later they semed to like a little jigging action off the bottom before the retrieve. 5 and 7 ounce Krocodile spoons were the jig of choice today. Some bass were taken on AVA 047s. I felt the 7 ounce spoon was better as it got down quicker in the fast drift.
Most of the bass were either under 24"s or in the 24-28" class. there were several bonus tag bass (28-34") as well as several 34"+ bass. My biggest taped out at 35.5"s and weighed 16.25 pounds on my hand held scale. This was beat out in the pool by a #17. I'd estimate that there were 150-175 bass caught in total for the 30 fares. There were about 40-50 bluefish from 5-12 pounds caught as well.
I totaled 9 bass, 1 bluefish, 1 skate and 1 dogfish. Jason jigged up 6 bass and 2 bluefish
