Location: Inshore Rough Bottom
Fishing Method: Bottom
Specie: Tautog
Size: Up to 14 lbs
Bait or Lure: crabs
Water Depth: 45feet

Information : Springlike conditions on New Years Eve and Captain Tommy Joseph sat us on some nice fish. Although anchoring was a little tricky in the easterly heave and northerly current, the charter had a nice pick of Tog all mornning including an 11.5, a 12 and a massive 14 pounder. These fish were truly impressive. To our surprize the 11.5 fish was hooked by another member of the charter and lost earlier in the day. The hook was swalllowed and remained in the throat with the leader. Another great day on The Rightaway !!!! Looking forward to returning to Togland on Sunday.

Boat Name: Capt. Robbins
Date Fished: Sunday 12/29
Location: ?
Fishing Method: Wreck
Specie: Tautog
Size: up to 8 lbs
Bait or Lure: crabsicols
Water Depth: 90' - 100'
Water Temp.: 45 ish
Information : Well it is official - the fat lady has sung! Went down for the final trip of the year on Capt. Robbins. Took a long ride to about 90 feet of water in an attempt to jerk some tog. Tough day with the wind against the tide situation along with 47 other knuckleheads trying to squeeze one more day in. Total for the day was 10 good bites (you know it was bad when you are counting bites) with 2 shorts to show for it. Of course had the potential pool winner on only to have it spit the hook as the net was being grabbed. Oh well - total for the boat was probably 40 keepers with a few sharpies getting a couple each. Tried the spiderwire and if not for the crowd and the conditions worked well! Happy new year! How long until Easter? Go Eagles!
PS - Hey Neil keep the boat in the Water you cheapskate atleast fish up until the new Year

Fishing Method: boat, drifting
Specie: Atlantic Mackerel
Size: 14 - 18"
Bait or Lure: Mackerel tubes
Water Depth: 60 feet
Water Temp.:
Information : Non stop action on the macks. Fish were flying over the rails at an unbelievable pace. It was catch as many as you want to keep, fish were hitting before you could get the rig to the bottom. During afternoon, boat switched over to togs. No luck, not a single blackfish landed on the boat. There were quite a few ling however, so all was not lost. Only problem experienced was with a rude mate. Note to captain: Please hire folks more interested helping customers and not in fishing themselves !!! I also could have done without his putdowns on customers when tangles took place. Otherwise, it was a great day.

Angler Name : Jim Cawthern
E-Mail : jimcawthern@comcast.net
Boat Name: Porgy III
Date Fished: 12/13/02
Location: Cape May, NJ
Fishing Method: Drifting Clams
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: Up to 34 inches / 13.5 lbs.
Bait or Lure: Clams
Water Depth: 25 - 35 '
Water Temp.: lower 40's ... did not confirm
Information : Headed down to Cape May with Johnny C. & Al intending to fish for stripers aboard the Miss Chris. However, upon arrival,it was evident that The Miss Chris was going to be "railed". We quickly crossed the street and jumped on the Porgy III to fish with Capt. Paul & mate, John.
NOAA & the local weathermen were all claiming that it would be a decent day before the foul weather arrived that evening. THEY WERE BOTH WRONG AGAIN !!! Temps were 10 degrees below what they predicted, and the skies were an ugly grey with a heavy haze right out of the inlet that morning. It got steadily worse throughout the day with rain by mid afternoon. Fortunately, the winds were fairly mild, or it could have been pretty miserable conditions.
We worked through a slow pick of keeper and slot fish with each drift producing a few scattered fish. All fish were caught on clams, as the few eelers on board switched over to clams after a lack of success on the first few drifts. Most of the anglers on board were good fishermen with a few old pros aptly described as "trained assasins" by the captain.
The bow of the boat enjoyed some good light hearted banter pitting some younger "North Jersey anglers" from Sandy Hook Bay against their older South Jersey Delaware Bay brethren in a light hearted battle of wits and fishing abilities. The comic relief certainly helped to pass the time in between the occasional strikes and catches.
By the end of the day, the high hook on the boat had about 6-7 fish, but he was the exception rather than the rule. In fact, his son was fishing on board as well, and he didn't catch any. Most anglers averaged 1 - 2 fish each.
Final tally for our "crew" was: 1 for Johnny, 3 for Al, and 3 for me. My largest was 33.5 inches and 12.7 lbs. Al's largest was 34 inches and 13.1 lbs ... It ended up placing 2nd or 3rd and missed the pool winner by a few ounces.
Hats off to Captain Paul and Mate, John whom provided excellent personable service all day long. Capt. Paul even hung around late to assist with boat & fish cleaning back at the dock. It may not be the newest, cleanest, fastest boat in the fleet, but they ran a first class party boat operation on Friday, and I would recommend them any time.
... Oh yeah, it was close, but I think those young "North Jersey" boys spanked "the old salts from the south" when the fat lady came to sing. I suppose a re-match is in order soon!

The bite could only be described as a slow pick. After 3 hours we had 21 tog up to 4 Lbs. in the boat Running up to the Sea Girt Reef later in the AM we made a drop in 70 Ft. of water, lost the current and toughed it out for the balance of the day to complete a limit catch of Tog up to 6 Lbs. for the 4 Man charter. Bait or Lure: Clams
Water Depth: incoming tide

By 9:45 had two shorts 18 and 21.Then at 10:30 top of the tide my small rod started screaming. I had a 7 1/2 ft baitcaster with an ambassaduer 6500 rigged with a three way swivel, two oz. pyramid, and a hi-low porgy rig (w/#4 hooks) with clam scrapings on it. This was out for the hopes of some kind of live bait. Just my luck a 33inch 14lb.10oz. striper decides to dine on clam scraps. After a nice little battle she was beached and will be dinner tomorrow.

E-Mail : karonaraft@cs.com
Boat Name: karona
Date Fished: 12 - 7 - 02 Saturday
Location: off Thunderbird
Fishing Method: trollling
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: slots - 39"
Bait or Lure: shad rigs + spoon rigs
Water Depth: 60 - 65 ft
Water Temp.: 46.5 dgs
Information : After shoveling a ft. of snow off the boat, and having to break ice from the marina to the river, I did not hesitate to head south knowing a stiffer south west would be on us by early afternoon. Did not see or read much until S.Bay Head. Saw a few boats anchored tight to the beach, and a few trolling. Drove to the 60 ft. mark and began marking small pods of bait and some bass, all sizes. I began at 9:30 and caught a slot 27" on a spoon umbrella rig. Dragged a bunker spoon 2 hrs. with no hits. The water was discolored and a bit cold. At 12 noon, made some changes to shad rigs and it payed-off. Caught a short at 1pm, and at 2pm caught the fish I was looking for, a 39 incher. Did not have any other hits after 2pm, and stayed till 3pm. I did mark a substantial amount of fish in that area that day, with very few feeders, and I doubt if the water will get any warmer. Happy trails.........

Location: Raritan Bay
Fishing Method: Trolling
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: Up to 28"
Bait or Lure: Shads & Tubes
Water Depth: 20 To 40 Ft.
Water Temp.: 49 Degrees
Information : Capt. Paul had his release customers Werner & Wolfgang Sprie on the Bounty Hunter today and what a difference a week made. Last Saturday they released 50+ Stripers and today we had to work our butts off to catch 9. The water is still brown from Manasquan to Sandy Hook. No bird activity, no bait. no Stripers. Made stops in several of our regular "Hot" spots and came up empty. Finally we located some Bass along Chapel Hill channel and managed to land 9 fish. All were Shorts except for 2 Slot fish. It appeared that the eel fishermen fared better than we did. We will see what tomorrow brings.

Location: South of Manasquan Inlet

Size: 32"
Bait or Lure: shads
Water Depth: 68'

Information : After breaking through the ice at the marina, ran south down the beach looking for bird or bait action, non to be found. Stopped off of Ortley where head boats were clamming, although plenty of marks, no fish!
Proceeded down to Seaside and contrary to weather reports, the wind began to howl so turned north and began to troll the shads. Read plenty of fish and bait with nothing until we were just south of the Thunderbird and saved the day with 3 fish ranging from 32" to 29". These were the only hits but were also the ones in the box! Would love to try another trip or two but this weather may freeze me in! Will have to see how the week goes, the fish are there...just not cooperating like they should.

Boat Name: All Hooked Up
Date Fished: Dec. 2,3, and 4, 2002
Location: Cape May
Fishing Method: Drift
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: Up to 37"
Bait or Lure: Eel
Water Depth: 20-40'
Water Temp.: 48-50
Information : The All Hooked Up headed south for three days as the fishing in and around Barnegat has been spotty at best this fall for bass. We started Monday as the wind was blowing a solid 20 knots. After about an hour and things weren't looking too good we got into 'em and limited out within 2 hours and began throwing back 30+ inchers. The wind died a little and we enjoyed a pretty nice ride back to the marina. Tues. was the toughest day of fishing as we were only one of the 3 boats that went out of South Jersey Marina on this ugly day. The wind was blowing a solid 30-40 knots creating tight 8 footers in and around the rips. The All Hooked up managed to put 1 short of the limit in the box as we called it quits after about two hours of fishing. Wed. was the calm before the storm as we enjoyed an absolute beautiful day on the water. Again we limited out by 10:00AM after a slow first hour fishing. We had finally found 'em stacked up and left 'em biting to head north to shut things down for the winter. All I can say is that the Cape May striped bass fishery is absolutely incredible, those fish were snappin' in ANY type of weather!!! I will say that Capt. John found a great spot for our three days away from the fleet that produced better catches than most any of the other boats out there. All in all over the three days we kept 28 bass, threw back around 20, and missed a few hook ups here and there fishing no later than 12:00PM any of the three days. Man was it COLD!! Thanks to South Jersey Marina, great facility and hopefully they can squeeze us in for a few weeks next fall. Season just ended for us yesterday and I can't wait till next spring already. The All Hooked enjoyed a great first season as we hooked everything from sea bass to monster blue marlin. Think Spring!!

Date Fished: 12-4-02
Location: Lavalette to SeaSide
Fishing Method: Trolling, Jigging and casting plugs
Specie: Striped Bass
Size:
Bait or Lure:
Water Depth: 42 to 52 feet
Water Temp.: 47
Information : Broke the Manasquan Inlet at 7:30 AM after having to use boat as an Ice Breaker to get out of my slip and the marina. Headed South and found the action off Lavalette and Sea Side. Total stripers caught between me and my brother were 29. Trolling with shad rigs produced the best, but also were successful with jigging and casting plugs. Plenty of bird action for the first few hours, before they disappeared. Also jigged a 15 inch heering unless it was a hickory shad, I am not sure. But I believe that this means that the big bass should not be too far behind chasing these large baits.

Water Depth: 10-15 feet

Information : The boys decided to try Sea Girt for our Sunday afternoon outing. Despite the sunshine, it was cold and windy! Our lines went in at about 4:10 pm, just in time to catch the incoming tide. By 4:20 pm Marco landed a nice size Striper. At 4:21, I followed with my first ever Striper caught from the surf. A short while later, Mike landed another using his special clam method. By 6:30pm we all decided to call it a day. All in all it was a great afternoon, except for Al who "got skunked" and lost about 60+ yards of line. If anyone is going out on the surf, dress warm, stay dry and bring plenty of chap stick. Have fun !!!!!
