Date Fished: 12/19/01
Location: New Jersey
Fishing Method:
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: 16" - 42"
Bait or Lure: Popers,Dimond jigs and Shads
Water Depth:
Water Temp.: 52-53
Information : I just want to say I got my christmas gift yesterday and the two of us
had the best day in a life time of fishing for STRIPED BASS.
I decided to take advantage of the nice weather and try to catch a FEW striped bass
with a friend on my boat that is still not put away for the winter. The weather
report was not that nice but turned out to be like a lake on the water after 12 pm.
Air temp was around 45 to 50 and the water temp was 50 to 53.
We got out on the warter at 10 Am and had non stop action with large Bass and a few
large Bule fish untill we headed in at 4:30 pm. Most of the fish were large fat bass
30" to 42" up to 30 lbs that we cought. We cought 3/4's of the fish on top water
plugs and the rest on dimond jigs and shad's. .I have never seen so many large bass
in one area at one time in my life and my friend also that has been fishing for over
10 years.
We estimated we cought 80 stripers and 10 bluefish. We kept our 4 fish limit and I
should of sent in for the trophy tags last month. The best part of the entire day was
we were the only ones out there. It was like the ocean was reserved for us for a day
and not one idiot running over the birds and scaring the fish away. The spot we
cought the bass is off the New Jersey shore, and that is all the info I will give.
Sorry we will be going back out saturday after our arms/backs rest for a few days. I
hope every one has a safe and happy holiday.

Bait or Lure: Eels,AVA 027
Water Depth: 10-60 Ft
Water Temp.: 53
Information : Started off along the edge of the Swash Channel in an attempt to jig
some bass from scattered patches--this proved to be fishless. We next moved over to
Ambrose Channel and tried eeling, but all this produced were spiny dogfish.A run back
over to Sandy Hook Channel yielded a few more doggies in addition to a brief battle I
had with what I'm almost certain was a keeper bass until the knot failed. To this poin
in the trip-not a single bass of any size was taken..A couple of drifts on the Knoll
was also fishless. We then ran down the beach and came upon some more birds
working--we finally put some fish on the deck-although most were schoolies--there was
1 slot taken.I was fortunate to get one of those schoolies. We went back again to
Ambrose, and the bass were waiting-- we short drifted a small hump mid channel and put
@12 bass ( 1 slot & 11 28+ inchers ).My son and I took turns fighting an eventual 30
incher 11 pound bass.On the way in,we came across some more birds in Chapel Hill
Channel, an addtional keeper and a few slots plus a fw more schoolies were jigged.I
accounted for 2 of the schoolies and 1 of the slots.Capt rob stayed an extra 2 hours
in order to put a catch together--thats what makes a good captain.

Boat Name: Jesse James
Date Fished: Dec 7, 2001 (A date of infamy)
Location: AC Inlet / off the beach
Fishing Method: jigging, clams and eels
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: Shorts to about 38"
Bait or Lure: Clams and eels
Water Depth:
Water Temp.: 55
Information : Fishing on my old charter capt's private boat, we left the dock at 5:30
as planned and found a perfect Striper day. Dead calm wind with overcase skies.
Our first stop in AC Inlet yielded a 30"er in the first 10 minutes that got the trip
off to a good start. Once it got light, we headed off the beach to look for bird action.
After searching for a while, we found some activity and jigged up a couple small
keepers. When we started jigging horn dogs, we bugged out of there and back to the
inlet.
After waiting a while for the tide to run, we picked up a couple of medium keepers
and then hell broke lose. Three rods went over with nice sized fish (34" +) and then
a couple more quality fish in quick order. It was a 'net your own fish I'm busy
situation' but we managed to get all the fish in the box. We enjoyed constant action
for over an hour and the three of us quickly limited out while throwing back some for
tomorrow.
It was supposed to be 60+ degrees, and I had threatened my fishing buddies with the
sight of me fishing in my bright orange bathing suit and nothing else, but it was too
cold for that. I'm sure that they were grateful. For the last trip of the year, I
could not have asked for more.
We were nearing the end of our allotted time, and we all know how tough it is to
'leave em' biting', especially when it's your last trip of the year, so we ran
through a series of 5 or 6 "One more drifts" before calling it a day.

Specie: Tautog
Size: 12lbs
Bait or Lure: Green Crab
Water Depth: 70ft
Water Temp.: 54
Information : Fished on the last trip of the year on the Sea Horse with Capt. Ed, the
boat is going to the barn for the winter. I sure picked the right day, we started out
with some ling on clams, but the Blacks turned on and all started to use crabs and the
fish were comming over rail. I came home with six nice fish, the largest being 7lbs,
On angler who won the pool had a Tog that was so large it looked like be had a dog on
the line. Lots of short fish to keep you putting bait on the hook. It was a great day
to be on the water, I felt like I was down in Florida with the weather so warm and
the fish biteing so good. Thank you Capt. Ed. for such a good day in Dec. and it was
so good catching fish right here at home in the Great State of New Jersey. Tight

3:00pm on the outgoing. Then it tapered off quite a bit, to nothing at dead low. Alot
of run offs, and many caught. It was actually getting chaotic running from pole to
pole, trying to hook up after hits, so I started only using one rod. No keepers, but
what a day. Tried some plugs after i ran out of clams, but didnt get a strike. Great
day.

Location: 2 miles off Sqwuan in 70 feet
Fishing Method: Trolled shad rigs
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: up to 42'
Bait or Lure: Shad rigs with Alewive in middle
Water Depth: 65 - 70
Water Temp.: 55
Information : Went out around 10AM alone and caught 4 nice bass in about 10-minutes
right out of the inlet in a small fleet of boats Monday. Came back in (arms tired !!)
and picked up fishing pal Carlos and the went back out. Limited out in no time at all
with one 42' fish. There was a red hulled clam boat working in the area and I fished
down-current of the clammer about 1/4 to 1/2 mile from the clam boat with shad rigs
and 300 feet of wire with 8-OZ drail (down maybe 35-40 feet?). I think the clam boat
brought in the big fish, cause when we cleaned the fish the big ones were full of
clams. From what I heard on the radio, everyone in the fleet off Squan was catching
fish pretty much all day. It was a quick pick of nice fish on a sunny 65 degree day.
I'll take it.....
