Captain Jeff Sturman reports:
Headed out on 11/21 broke the inlet and headed north stopped just past the cg
station in about 45ft of water. Started trolling and within 10min had first fish on
ended up being bluefish. Continue trolling and it was pretty much all bluefish did
have three or four shorts. So decided to change up and do some jigging. Well it was
the right call first drift we had four fish with two keepers from then on out it was
nonstop action. Had a couple of drifts with 10 plus fish lost count on the releases
ended the day with 8 fish in the boat, the biggest going 34inches. Most fish were
caught on ava jigs, all in all good day on the water.
11/10/09
Captain Jeff Sturman reports:
Headed out on 11/10 for half-day trip broke the inlet headed north started
trolling just past the coast guard station and had nonstop action for about hr and
half had more bass
Then blues today the bass were on the bigger side had couple over 37 inches. All the
bass
Were caught on black umbrella rigs in about 50 to 55 ft of water all in all good day
on the
Water.
11/08/09
Captain Jeff Sturman reports:
Headed out on 11/8 broke the inlet about 7:00am headed north and ran right
into the fleet so decided to troll on the outside of the fleet we had pretty decent
action most of the bass
Were undersize but did put a 29’ and 32’ in the box the blues were on the bigger end.
Ended up going 7/9 on bass and about the same with blues. All the bass were caught
on black umbrella rigs, had to cut the day early because one person was feeling
under the weather all in all good day on the water
10/25/09
Captain Jeff Sturman reports:
Heanded out on 10/25 left the dock around 1:30pm to catch the afternoon bite,
had two fish on within 20 minutes. lost on and the other was a 27 inch bass, not a
bad start but as the afternoon went on it slowed down to only fish here an there.
did have have a little blitz but most were bluefish and ended the day going 2-3 bass
keeping one at 33inches and about 12 bluefish all
bass were caught on black umbrella all in all good day on the water.
10/21/09
Captain Jeff Sturman reports:
Headed out on 10/21 broke the inlet and headed north right back where we had
them yesterday. Didn’t have the concentration of birds but start trolling alittle
short of the pier , and had our first hit within 10 minutes and had a constant bite
for about 2 ½ hrs. After that it was pretty much slow picking we had more blues
than bass, and the bass were on the smaller size. At the end of the day we ended up
going 7 for 10 on bass losing two keepers at boat side, and only putting one in the
box. All fish caught black and orange umbrella rigs and stretches, most if not all
bass were on the umbrella rigs. All in all good day on the water.
10/20/09
Captain Jeff Sturman reports:
Headed out on 10/20 broke the inlet headed north started trolling at the
seaside pier. We had the first fish within a couple of minutes on a black umbrella
rig. As we were setting the lines back out we noticed a line of birds about ½ mile
away, so we picked the lines up and ran out to the line of birds. Once there we
started trolling within 5 to 10 minutes it all broke open and we had constant action
on stripe bass from 27 to 32 inches most fish were caught on black and orange
umbrella rigs and stretches. We went 10 for 13 putting four in the box, all in all
good day on the water.

11/21/09
Captain Dan McGivney reports:
Paul Gottlick, long time charter customer as well as Tom,Marty and John were
aboard the Megan Beth. Heading to the North we ran accross a patch of birds working
on some fish. Stopping and jigging we immediatly had a bass in the 16 lb range with
some other hits and misses. Moving up to the north off Shark River we stopped and
jigged and had some steady action before all the boats showed up, Why do boats have
to speed through a fleet working on fish? As the bite slowed up and Bluefish took
over we decided to go on the troll. By days end we had 9 keeper bass to 18 lbs and
around 24 shorts released and countless number of Bluefish. Great day on the water
for the end of November.:) :) :)
11/07-08/09
Captain Dan McGivney reports:
On Saturday Jisoo Noh and friends were aboard the Megan Beth for a day of
Bass fishing. Heading to the South ,our first fish was a Bluefish. Thanks to Capt
Bruno of the Fintastic gave me a call that he had the bass all over the surface
chasing sand eels. We tryed to jig them but the fish were moving too fast. We went
on the troll and immediately had fish on. Boating four bass before the bite slowed
we then picked away at the blues. After the tide change we managed one more Bass. By
days end we had 5 bass to 22 lbs and alot of blues.
Sunday Jim Sabo and friends were on board . Heading off we found the birds but
only to find a lot of Blues feeding on the eels. Went on the troll only to get
more blues, Went back on the drift and jigged more Bluefish and some small bass.
By days end we had one keeper and 5 shorts and countless numbers of bluefish, most
released.
Both days were great to be on the water.
11/01/09
Captain Dan McGivney reports:
Lou and Jo Forenzi were on board the Megan Beth to get in on some Bass
fishing. Heading south out of the inlet we trolled and went 7 for 9 keeper bass and
countless numbers of Bluefish. Stopping to jig some reading only produced more
bluefish, Once the bluefish thin out a little the bass fishing should pick up as we
had steady readings down deep, but could not get to them. Great day on the water.
:) :) :)
10/10/09
Captain Dan McGivney reports:
Dave Tranchera and crew were aboard the Megan Beth for there annual inshore
Tuna trip. The weather forcast was not on our side ,so we headed up the beach to the
rocks and trolled for a couple hours with out a touch. Headed off to the Mud Bouy
and we had a steady pick of Blues up to 10 lbs. When the front came through the
wind picked up to about 25 knts out of the NW and seas of 4-6 ft we were glad we
stayed inshore . By days end we and a full load of Blues.
10/04/09
Captain Dan McGivney reports:
Jim Sabo and crew were aboard the Megan Beth for a day of bluefishing. 3 of
the crew wanted no part of the Blues and were looking for False Albacore on light
tackle. Pea soup Fog was in and out until the front came through around 1:00 PM.
Heading up to the Rocks we read some fish and bait ,jigged with no luck,so off we
went to the Mud Bouy. By days end we filled two coolers of blues and boated a 1/2
dozen albacore. Those that tried for Albies broke off about 30 blues as they were
fishing with out wire.Great day on the water
9/20/09
Captain Dan McGivney reports:
After being down for over a month with motor issues,it was nice to be out on
the water this weekend. Saturday's trip we were heading off to the Bluefin grounds
but when we got off 13 miles the crew decided the seas were a little to big, so we
reschuled the trip in the next coming weeks.
On Sunday Lou and Jo Forenzi were on board for a day of Bluefishing. Heading up
the beach we stopped on some bird life and we managed one False Albacore.
Stopping at the rocks was slow for us as we read the fish with no takers on
Jigs.We headed off to the Mud Bouy and put the chum in the water. First stop was
slow putting a 1/2 dozen fish in the box. Making a little move about a 1/4 mile
we did very well. With in a few minutes it was non stop action with limit
catches of Bluefish from 3-10 lbs.
Great to be back on the water

Capt. Tom reports:
Saturday morning Tyrich Harris and family joined us for a morning bass
trip. After a late start we decided to avoid the Saturday crowd at the Shoal and
go bunker fishing instead. The morning started out a bluefishing fiesta. Just
when we where ready to make a move we caught our first bass of the day. So we
decided to stay put and keep it honest for the turn of the tide. Once the tide
turned we caught 5 more bass up to 20 pounds, lost quite few more, and plenty
of bluefish to keep the kids excited.

in store for us. We started our drift in 220’ of water and 69◦ water temp with
good bait readings and closest boat was 3 miles away. At 10:30 am a huge splash
occurred at the 30’ balloon. We only saw a massive shark tail disappear into the
water. Richie at that point takes the pitch bait and feeds it back into the slick.
He is instantly hooked up on a Penn 50SW with 21# of drag and 80# mono, the shark
dumped nearly half the spool before we cleared the lines and began backing down on
this monster. The rod was past to every charter member multiple times including the
crew. This fish would just not come up. After two hours of pulling, backing down and
spinning on this fish it finally came up. We grabbed the leader and couldn’t budge
the fish any closer to the boat before it made another run. We had this fish up
about nine times and could not get a good look at it. The size of this fish was
unbelievable it had to weigh well over 1,000#. About 3pm we decided to try something
else to break the stalemate. We realized that if this was a mako we wouldn’t have
enough time to boat the fish and make the tournament’s 7pm weigh in, at this point
we were 62 miles from Pt Pleasant, so forget the tournament rules. The plan was to
swap the fish to a larger rod and reel. We had a Penn 70vs rigged with 200# spectra
and 130# mono top shot which we attached a snap swivel to. The next time we were
able to grab the leader we attached the snap swivel to the leader and cut the Penn
50 free from the fish. At this point we were able to apply 33# of drag to the fish
and fight the fish from a swivel rod holder, similar to how we fish for giants in
NC. The battle lasted for another 2 ½ hours we put as much pressure as we could and
finally at 5:30 pm the line parted and that was it. The battle lasted for 7 hours;
we end up over six miles from original location and pulled into our slip at 9:30pm.
We couldn’t be a 100 % on the identification of this shark but the tail shape leads
us to believe it was either a Great White or a monster mako. We could never get good
look at its head, it was always angled down.
Sunday:
On Sunday we fished the Northeast end of the Glory Hole. We setup in 200’ of crystal
blue 69◦ water. There were whales on the surface and solid bait readings at
100’. At 9:30 the 30’ rod goes off and were hooked up to a 90 - 100# Mako, which
was released after a short fight. We caught 2 additional Mako’s which were under the
tournaments’ qualifying size of 66”. The weather was a little sporty by noon but by
4pm the wind dropped out and we had good ride home.
In the 2 days of Mako Mania we fought a monster shark for 7 hours and caught 3
Mako’s not a bad weekend, if this sounds like fun, call us for dates and
availability.

Capt. Tom reports:
Captains Tom Kelly and Richie Andrews gave the Bob Ott charter from Pt
Pleasant, NJ a Father’s Day trip to remember, on the FINTASTIC. They started the
morning snagging bunker outside of Manasquan inlet after filling the live well, they
made their way north. An hour went by before they caught their first fish and then
another as the sun rose the bass really turned on. The 12 person charter at one
point had 8 fish on at once. The bass hit live bunker, heads, tails you name it.
They landed over 25 bass and kept 17 for the table. Two fish weighed in at Clarks
Landing came in at 38 and 44½ # the largest this year on the Fintastic.
6/14/08
Capt. Tom reports:
Captains Bruno Giuliari and Tom Kelly had the Matt Detlet charter on the
FINTASTIC for the Brett Bailey Mako Rodeo. We setup 55 miles to the southeast of
Manasquan in clean 69 degree water, good bait readings, good drift and only 3 other
boats in the area. With the table set we had high hopes for Mr. Mako, but we
proceeded to catch and release 8 big blue sharks and a few bluefish which kept Matt
and his friends quite busy.
We’ll try again this weekend we’ll be fishing both days of Mako Mania.

Capt. Tom reports:
Captains Tom Kelly and Joe Patsco took the Marty Aberelle charter on the
Fintastic for a late afternoon bass trip. Anchoring in 25' of water the trip started
with a good blue fish bite and as the sun went down the bass really turned on. They
end up chunking over 30 bass ranging from 20 - 27 # with the largest fish weighing
33#. They kept 18 bass table and released the rest to fight another day.
The Fintastic is moving from the Highlands to Point Pleasant today and has some open
date availble. We will be sailing from Clarks Landing Marina in Point Pleasant until
December and then off to Morehead City, NC.
This weekend we will be fishing the Bret Bailey Mako Redeo shark tournament and then

The morning trip failed to produce any stripers for the Tim Bethea group but
they had lots of sea bass and some ling to make up for it. The stripers were on in
the afternoon as the Jon Harding family boated 8 bass up to 34lbs. Many, many others
were lost or missed.

48 CR - 7/24-25 - 19 Yellowfin to 70 Pounds/2 Bluefin to 80 Pounds/Mahi
Capt. Mark DeCabai, Capt. Mike Zajac and Deane Lambros took out the George Johns
charter late Friday into late Saturday for an overnighter on the 48 Canyon Runner.
They left late after the wind died down and got to the edge at 1am. Nothing happened
at night but in the morning the bite was on. They trolling the 100-square first and
pick a fish but the water moved out so they ran down the west wall area and found a
nice 70-78 degree break and the yellowfin in it. These are nice yellowfin to in the
50-70 pound class. They went 4 for 7 on the big ones and 15 for 20 on the rest with
6 more keepers and some mahi.
They trolled the canyon until 3pm when they decided to run inshore to the Atlantic
Princess and pick some bluefins. They anchored up and started throwing the chunks
and jigging and very quickly put a 50" - 80 pound bluefin in the boat and
another 46" fish in the boat and release another 40 inch bluefin. Both boated
fish fell for fresh dead squid.
July 13=16 2009
Adam LaRosa reports:
60 Canyon Runner - 7/13-14 - 24 Yellowfin (9 between 50-70) & a
Spearfish
Capt. Mark DeBlasio, Capt. John Timken and Capt. Pete Doran had the Mark
Novembre/Charles Korb charter out Monday to Tuesday on the 60 Ritchie Howell and put
together a heck of a trip. They ran right back to the Spencer Canyon and worked the
southeast corner down to the northeast corner of the Wilmington. They found fish
hanging right on the break down at the Wilmington and caught a handful of smaller
ones before setting up for the night which was uneventful with just a hammerhead.
Tuesday was another story as the BIG yellowfin showed up. They starting picking 1.5
miles north of the northeast corner of the Wilmington around 8am and from 8am to 2pm
had 7 big yellowfin in the 50-70 pound class. They also release a nice spearfish
which ate a ballyhoo/Ilander combo. They work up to the southeast corner and picked
2 more 50-70 pound yellowfin. They also had another 15 smaller ones.
48 Canyon Runner - 7/15-16 - 19 Yellowfin (4 Nice Ones/1 Mako/1 White Marlin) Capt. Mark DeCabia and Captain Mike Zajac took the Tom Biliecki charter out on Tuesday to Wednesday and decided to look back at the Hudson Canyon and a great temperature break coming into the 100-square - bad choice. There were no fish in it. So they worked down to the Toms Canyon and picked one 40 yellowfin during the entire afternoon troll. At night they quickly go their mako bite putting a 110 pouder in the boat. Knowing of the hot bite in the Spencer they 8knoted it down the line leaving the Toms at 11pm and ariving in the Spencer at 4pm for the morning troll. Good choice as they picked at another 18 yellowfin with 2 more in the 40-50 pound class. They also releaseed a nice white marlin and missed another plus added a mahi.
July 8-13 2009
Adam LaRosa reports:
48 CR - 7/12-13 - 15 Yellowfin (4 Nice Ones)/2 Makos (released)/1 White Marlin & Mahi
Captains Mark DeCabia, Mike Zajac and Phil Dulanie had the John Sisco charter out
Sunday to Monday on the 48' Canyon Runner and ran to the Toms Canyon to start off
the trip. Not a good call. There were a ton of birds, plenty of bait, rips, slicks
and porpoises but no bites. They found it hard to leave such good signs so they
stuck it out until dark. In all their afternoon troll produced a single 40 pound
yellowfin. They ran down the bank in the dark leaving the Toms at 9pm and chugged
into the Lindy at 11pm and put out the shark rods.
They had an eventful night with a hammerhead two more makos (that makes 25 for the
year) with a 90 pounder and 50 pounder (both released) and a bite on the sword rod
that never came tight.
Up on the troll in the morning they got their bites catching 14 more yellowfin with
3 more in the 25-50 pound class. Canyon Runner spreader bars and ballyhoo produced
the best. But the biggest surprise on the trip was a 70" white marlin that ate
a Canyon Runner Green Machine spreader bar and was released after a short fight.
They also added a mahi.
60 CR - 7/12-13 - 55 Yellowfin (8 Nice Ones to 70#) Capt. DeBlasio and Capt. Doran had the Jim Sutow charter out Sunday to Monday on the 60 Ritchie Howell with Ryan DiBaggio in the pit. They headed to the Carteret Canyon and then proceeded to troll south along the 100-fathom line catching yellowfin the entire way. They moved to the Lindy where they had their best bite of the afternoon and finished off Sunday with 30 yellowfin including 4 fish in the 25-60 pound class. They overnighted in the southwest corner and picked up 2 hammerheads but nothing else. Up on the troll in the morning they worked all the way south again all on the 100-fathom line and continued to pick yellowfin the entire way. The best bite was around the Spencer. They finished off the trip with 55 yellowfin including 8 in the 25-70 pound class. 3 fishing were 60-70 pounds. Capt. DeBlasio as always had his 4 bar pattern out with two rainbow Green Machine bars and 2 9" purple/black bars and Canyon Runner jets and ballyhoo all produced.
60 CR - 7/11 - 2 Yellowfin - 0 for 1 on Blue Marlin Adam LaRosa, Brad Burgess & Crew took the 60 Ritchie offshore Saturday on a day troll crew trip to get the marlin gear wet in advance of the White Marlin Open and MA500. Knowing that the tuna bite was south we still headed to the Hudson looking for that 74 degree water on the 500 fathom line. To keep the tuna fishermen happy we trolled the west wall for 3 hours picking a couple small yellowfin but that was it. We pushed off to the 500 fathom tongue and put the dredges and teasers out and in 35 minutes had a 175 blue marlin come tight on the Black Bart lure pulled from the center rigger. She was pulling drag but unfortunately pulled off shortly after the bite. A couple hours later we had a white lit up in the spread but she did not even attempt to eat a bait. Happy to see some billfish and leery of the approaching front we got out of there early and were back at the dock at 5pm
48 CR - 7/8-9 - 4 Yellowfin (2 Nice Ones) and 2 Makos to 150 Pounds Capt. Mark DeCabia and Phil Dulanie had the John Jeanison and Mike Hutcheceon charter out Wednesday to Thursday on the 48 Viking and also found that the fishing dropped off. They started up at the west wall of the Hudson at Noon and worked that area for a while without a bite. They worked down the wall, offshore and inshore without a bite. They finally ran to the Toms Canyon in 50-60 fathoms and finally put one 40 pound fish in the boat before night fall. Night time was another story as they keep busy on the sharks all night. They picked 4 brown sharks, a big hammerhead, a small mako and the last rod in the water accounted for our 23rd mako of the year as a 150 pounder was put in the boat. Up on the troll in the morning the wind started howling and the tuna bite a little with 3 more yellowfin with a 25 pounder and 2 shorts. They called it a day before it got too nasty.
60 CR – 7/7-8 14 Yellowfin (8 Nice Ones) Missed a Blue Marlin
Capt. Mark DeBlasio took the Manny Bellow charter out Tursday to Wednesday with the
Manny Bellow charter and found the fishing to finaly have fallen off. They ran to
the southwest corner of the Hudson canyon leaving late so not actually getting there
until 9:30pm. They set up the slick and caught nothing at night. In the morning they
worked the 150/050 area until 7pm when wiithout a bite they started to work south
along the 100-fathom line.
They worked down the line where they had a 5 bagger of all 20-40 pound yellowfin and
turned around and nailed another 30 pounds - this was all at 7:30am. They did not
get another bite until 3pm where they worked into the Toms Canyon where they found
the best life of the trip. They picked a nice 50 pound fish, released 2 shorts and
had a 5 baggers of yellowfin keeping one releasing the rest. The biggest excitement
of the trip came when a blue marlin crashed the pattern and was hooked up for a few
minutes. Unfortunately they couldn't clear the 11 rod pattern in time to chase after
the fish and they jumped it off.
July 5-7 2009
Adam LaRosa reports:
60 Canyon Runner 7/6-7- 25 Yellowfin (4 Nice Ones) and Small Mako Released
Capt. Mark DeCabia took the 60 Ritchie Howell out on Monday/Tuesday with the John
Scheon charter. Capt. Mike Zajac joined with Capt. John Timken. They left the dock
at 1pm and hit the west wall of the Hudson at 5pm and got in 4 hours on the troll.
They were pulling all big spreader bars looking for another big-eye but nothing
transpired. They put out the regular 9" squid bars and ballyhoo and picked 3
yellowfin with one nice one in the 50 pound class before the night set in.
Their drift took them off the bank but all they had to show for it was a small mako
released and a brown shark. Up on the troll early in the morning found a very slow
yellowfin bite turn on after 8am and they started picking away on double, triples
and quadruples. They finished the trip with 25 yellowfin with 4 in the 25-50 pound
class.
60 Canyon Runner 7/5-6 - 15 Yellowfin (6 Nice Ones)
Capt. Phil Dulanie, Capt. Mark DeCabia and Capt. Mike Zajac had the 60 Ritchie
Howell out Sunday into Monday with the Damien Romeo charter and got to the grounds
early Sunday morning in hopes of an early bite but it did not materialize for us.
Trolling bigger lure and the largest Yamashita spreader bars we have we were hoping
for lightening to stike again but it was not our day. 5 big-eyes were caught Sunday
among 15 or 20 boats but not us.
They ended up trolling all day putting 15 yellowfin in the boat releasing 9 of them.
Those fish ate ballyhoo, tuna clones and squid bars. At night saw nothing but a
brown shark and a blue shark. They got up on the troll early Monday morning for a
few quick hours on the troll but no picked a big-eye on Monday so they came home.
48 Canyon Runner 7/5-6 - 56 Yellowfin (11 Nice Ones)
Capt. Mark DeBlasio, Capt. Peter Doran and Ryan DiBaggio took out an open boat trip
Sunday to Monday and started right where we left off Friday afternoon on the west
wall of the Hudson Canyon. Trolling in the early afternoon did not do too much but
the fish came up around 6pm and from 6pm to 9pm they troll 25 yellowfin. They put 4
in the box with 2 in the 40 pound class. Canyon Runner rainbow green machine bars,
and Canyon Runner purple/black squid bars in 9" squid were the key.
At night it seems that the mako fishing has slowed as none were seen. They did pull
a brown shark or two but nothing to write home about.
Up on the troll in the morning they got the bite they were looking for as a big-eye
exploded on the lure trolled between the two Canyon Runner spreader bars but it
never came tight. This was at 6:30am and they spent the rest of the day lamenting
about the one they missed. What made the rest of the day easier is they caught
another 31 yellowfin ending up with 11 in the box with 3 over 40 pounds, 3 around 25
pounds and the rest around 30 inches.

The over under limit was retained to 54 inches and others were released on the jigs
and bait.
Inshore we catch the bass some mornings before jigging the blues very well.
Pete Aballe from Emerson was out Friday for some bass action on bait getting four
keepers and some shorts before jigging the blues and a brief attempt at the flukes
produced three keepers and many shorts.
Saturday Curtis Hutchins party from East Orange jigged all the blues they wanted in
the bay up to 10lbs
