Bounty Hunter Sportfishing

07/02/09
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul had the Frank Ruddy charter on board the Bounty Hunter for a day of Seabass fishing. The day started off with less than desirable conditions. We had a large heave from the East and a very strong current from the south. Once anchored we were in the trough and it was not comfortable. The Seabass did not bite well until we made our way out to 90 Ft. There the charter put together a nice catch of 60 Ling and Seabass up to 3 1/2 lbs. I have 1 spot available for my Open Boat Seabass trip on July 8th. 4 spots available for my Open Boat Seabass trip on July 13th and 6 spots available for my Open Boat Fluke trip on July 9th. Call 732-323-8700 to reserve your spot.

06/30/09
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul had the Bill Anthony charter out for a day of Striper fishing. We anchored up on the Rocks with a well full of live Bunker and fresh chunks. It did not take long for the Alligator Blues to find us and it turned into a Bluefish trip. The big Blues were relentless on the Chunks and Livies. We never saw a Bass. We then ran south and anchored up off Mantoloking in 70 ft. there were no Blues but plenty of Smooth Sand Sharks. It really was an uneventful day. None of the Blues were kept. I have 2 openings avail. for the July 8th Open Boat Seabass trip. I will be sailing Open Boat for Fluke on July 9th. Interested parties should call 732-323-8700 for more info.

06/28/09
Captain Paul reports:
The Joe Sensale charter joined Capt. Paul for a day of Seabass fishing. The weatherman blew the 5 to 10 knot NW forcast as we found ourselves in a 10 to 20 knot North wind situation. We dropped on 4 Wrecks and the short Seabass were thick. If you could keep a 12" Seabass you could catch a limit in a few hours. Since they have to be 12 1/2" or larger in length it becomes a little more difficult. The charter fished their way thru a couple of hundred shorts and finished the day with just over 60 Seabass up to 3 Lbs. and a handful of Ling. 4 spots still remain open for my July 8th Open Boat Seabass trip. If you like Seabass call 732-323-8700 to reserve your spot.

06/27/09
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul had release Fisherman Werner Sprie on board the Bounty Hunter today. Werner went it alone as brother Wolfgang was tied up with business commitments. We joined the Party Boat fleet on the edge of the Mud Hole and conditions were perfect but the Blues were scattered from the previous nights lightning show. We chased them for 4 hours but never got into them solid. At the end Werner Jigged and released over 30 Blues. I still need 4 for my July 8th Open Boat Seabass trip. Interested? Call 732-323-8700 to reserve yor spot.

06/26/09
Captain Paul reports:
The Mick Pirolli charter sailed with Capt. Paul today and got in on some great Seabass fishing. We worked a few wrecks south of Manasquan and picked away at the Seabass until we lost the wind and good anchoring conditions at mid day. After that it became a slow pick. The charter finished the day with a nice catch of 90 Seabass up to 3 lbs. and a dozen Ling. My "Open Boat" Seabass trip on July 7th is now filled. I need 4 to fill out the trip on the 8th. Call 732-323-8700 or E-Mail me to reserve your spot.

06/25/09
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul sailed today with the Hal Hall charter. We were on a tight schedule due to Hal havibg a business commitment but the the boys made the best of it. Hal had his Son Charlie, along with his friend "Big John" Litowinsky and his Son Zack and Tim Gregory and his boy Dustin. Together the Father/Son teams put together a nice catch of 70 Ling & Seabass in a few hours. "Correction" I am sailing "Open Boat" Seabass trips on July 7th & July 8th. If Seabass fishing is your thing call 732-323-8700 or E-Mail me to reserve your spot.

06/23/09
Captain Paul reports:
The Paul Bambara charter sailed with Capt. Paul today. We did not see any Bass activity as we made our way north snagging bait along the way. After setting up on the Rocks We had a mix of Bass and Blues while Chunking and floating a few livies. The charter landed 3 Bass had several long run offs only to have the Bass spit the bait and had the Blues around the boat for most of the day. I will be running "Open Boat" trips on July 7th for Seabass and July 8th for Striped Bass. To reserve your spot or get more information call 732-323-8700.

06/22/09
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul sailed today with the Chris Cameroni charter. It was the first Bluefish charter of the year for the Bounty Hunter. Chris and his friends wanted to have some steady action and a bend in all the rods. Capt. Paul put the boys right on the meat. We joined the Party boats 12 miles off the beach and started drifting in an early morning brisk north wind and had the Blues on within minutes. The charter had the non stop action they were lookng for and landed well over 100 Blues up to 12 lbs on Ava 47's. All the Bluefish were released except for 6 which went into the fish box. If you enjoy catching Blues now is the time to get on your favorite Party or Charter boat and get in on the action. These Blues will be with us thru September.

06/20/09
Captain Paul reports:
It was another big day on the Bounty Hunter. The morning did not show much promise as we fished Live baits while snagging our Bunker. After 2 hours we had a livewell full of bait but no signs of any Bass in the area. We worked our way slowly to the north looking for signs of Bass but had no success. Capt. Paul anchored up on a Rock pile and we were hoping for a few Bass bites but were willing to settle for a few Bluefish. At 10 AM the ocean came alive. We had Stripers top to bottom all around the boat.We changed our rigs put out the live Bunker and the show was on. Over the next 1 1/2 hours the charter went 19 for 31 on Big Bass keeping 12 up to 43 lbs. and releasing 7. Since no one in the charter ever caught a Bass it was absolute mayhem in the cockpit. Without a doubt this was one of the best Bass bites we have seen in the past couple of years. When it was over I asked my Mate if this bite could be considered an Epic bite? His response was it was a very good bite but fell short of making the Epic bite level.

06/19/09
Captain Paul reports:
Yesterday's nasty weather did not hurt the Bass fishing. Capt. Paul had the Ray Walter charter on board the Bounty Hunter and after filling the livewell wasted no time getting into the Bass. We found the Stripers in 20 Ft. of water a short distance from the Inlet and had a steady bite from 7 AM until the tide change. The charter went 12 for 15 on Bass up to 44 Lbs. We kept 8 Big Bass and released 4. It was the best action we have seen in quite a while. I have days available in July for Stripers, Seabass, Fluke and Blues. Call 732-323-8700 to reserve your day.

06/17/09
Captain Paul reports:
The Bob McColgan charter joined Capt. Paul for an evening Striper trip. We loaded up the bait well and set off to the north with great expectations. Conditions were good with plenty of Bunker around but we never got into a bite. Radio talk mentioned a Striper or two caught here and there but we never saw a bite that lasted. All we could show for our effort was one 43" Bass which weighed in at 34 Lbs. Call 732-323-8700 to reserve your July day for Stripers, Seabass, Fluke or Bluefish.

06/16/09
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul had the Ken Steiner charter on board the Bounty Hunter today and got an early AM start. Bunker baits were plentiful today and we had the live well full in 20 minutes. With a full load of bait we headed to the north and set up on some reads in 50 Ft. The first Bass went into the fish box within minutes and we enjoyed a steady pick over the next few hours. The charter went 9 for 11 on Bass up to 36 lbs. It was the best daytime fishing we experienced in a week. With the tide change the bite ended and we had no other bites. July is fast approaching. Get in on some summer fun. Striper, Seabass, Fluke and Bluefish days avail. Call 732-323-8700

06/15/09
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul had the Ed Stanchi charter on board the Bounty Hunter. It was our first evening charter as we left the dock at Noon and returned home at 9PM. The Bunker were scarce and it took a few hours of snagging to get enough in the livewell for the evening. We ran up to the Asbury Park area and found a good size fleet of boats on the Bass grounds. Paul decided to break away from the mob scene and fish a short distance back to the south. Stopping on good reads the charter went 5 for 10 on Bass up to 30 Lbs. We had 3 Teenage Newbies on the boat and all three caught their first Striper ever. I am now booking July charters for Stripers, Seabass, Fluke and Blues. If interested call 732-323-8700 to resesve your day.

06/13/09
Captain Paul reports:
The daytime Striper fishing continues to be slow. The Bill Zuchero charter was on board the Bounty Hunter and gave it a maximum effort but to no avail. After working the Bunker schools from Asbury Park up to Long Branch all we had for the effort was one 40" Bass. On Monday we will fish from Noon till 8PM. Maybe we can do better with a late afternoon bite. Days are still available for Stripers, Seabass, Fluke and Bluefish in July. Call 732-323-8700 to reserve your day.

06/13/09
Captain Paul reports:
The Rich Shearer charter joined Capt. Paul for a day of Striper fishing. We started to work the Bunker Pods from Bay Head to IBSP. Lots of bait but no Bass. Since the bite was slow and we were that far to the south we went offshore and caught Seabass and Ling just in case the Bass did not make an appearance. After Noon we came inshore and started to work the Bunker off Spring Lake. We got lucky and went 2 for 4 on Bass while livelining. The fish weighed in at 29 and 32 lbs. I have days available in July for Stripers, Seabass, Fluke and Bluefish. Get in on the summer fun. Call 732-323-8700 to reserve your day.

06/11/09
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul had the Greg Lewis charter on board the Bounty Hunter and it was another bad weather day as the northeast wind and dense fog made the conditions a bit uncomfortable. We fished pods of Bunker from Lavallette up to Belmar with little success. Finally we had our first and only bite off Manasquan where we landed a 45lb. Bass which weighed 32lbs. Days in July are available for Stripers, Seabass, Fluke and Blues. Call 732-323-8700 to reserve your day.

06/10/09
Captain Paul reports:
The Bill Haines charter returned to the Bounty Hunter today for a day of Seabass fishing. Like yesterday we cleared the Inlet in a pea soup fog. Capt. Paul made his way to 3 wrecks and the charter put together a nice catch of Seabass up to 3 Lbs. At noon the NE wind came on with some velocity making fishing conditions a bit uncomfortable so we called it a day and headed back for home. Days still remain available in July for Stripers, Seabass, Fluke and Blues. Call 732-323-8700 to reserve your day.

06/9/09
Captain Paul reports:
It was another tough day on the Bounty Hunter. The Bill Haines charter was on board and we cleared the Inlet in another pea soup fog. We made our way up to Long Branch and put out the Spoons. No sooner do we have our first Bass in the boat and Mother Nature decides to put on a rain and lightning show. We took several near misses close to the boat and the charter was not to anxious to come out of the cabin and stand in the rain and fish. As the weather subsided we Trolled for another hour without a touch and called it a day. The Haines group will be back tomorrow to try and capture some Seabass on the Inshore Wrecks. I have days available in July. Call 732-323-8700 to reserve your day.

06/8/09
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul had the Ron Horwath family on the Bounty Hunter on Monday and after the weekend crowd we were looking forward to seeing the Bass bounce back. This was not the case as unfotunately after 3 hours of Livelining and 3 hours of Spooning we never got a touch. It was without a doubt the worst day of Striper fishing we have had this year. Reports comming in from other boats indicated that we were not alone. We finished the day fishing for Seabass and sent the charter home with a couple of bags of Seabass fillets. Maybe things will improve tomorrow. I still have days available in July for Stripers, Seabass, Fluke and Blues. Call 732-323-8700 to reserve your day.

06/7/09
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul had the Abe Coban charter on board the Bounty Hunter on Sunday. We ran up to the Long Branch area and the place looked like a parking lot. With it being Sunday, beautiful weather and a Tournament or two taking place it was tough finding a parking spot. We finally anchored on a few reads 2 miles off shore and were lucky enough to finish the day with 2 large Stripers taken while livelining. The largest measured 44". Maybe tommorow we will see things back to normal. I still have days available in July for Stripers, Seabass, Fluke and Bluefish. Get in on the summer fun. Call 732-323-8700 to reserve your day.

06/6/09
Captain Paul reports:
The Kyle Rogers charter joined Capt. Paul for a day of Striped Bass fishing. Comming out after the previous days NE wind we expected a good live bait bite. That however was not the case. After 2 hours of working pods of Bunker without a touch we decided to troll. Once again the Spoons saved the day as the charter landed 4 big Bass. The largest a 48" fish which tipped the scale at an even 40 Lbs. July dates are still available for Stripers, Seabass, Fluke and Bluefish. Call 732-323-8700 to reserve your day.

06/4/09
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul had the Brian Mcfadden charter on board the Bounty Hunter for the best Spooning day of the season. Starting in the early AM wind and rain we snagged Bunker and then ran up to the Long Branch area wher we livelined our first Bass. The charter wanted to try Trolling so we switched over to pulling Spoons and it was a good decision as we added 6 more large Bass to the catch. The largest Bass of the day was caught by Eric Brittingham a 45" Bass which weighed in at 45 Lbs. It was Eric's first Bass ever. A nice way to start. It was followed by a 46" Bass weighing 40 Lbs. and another at 34 Lbs. We finished with 7 Large Bass. It was good fishing with a great group of people who will be back in a few weeks to catch more Bass. Days are available in July for Stripers, Seabass, Fluke and Blues. Get in on the summer fun call 732-323-8700 to reserve your day.

06/3/09
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul had the Mike Lewis charter on board the Bounty Hunter. We spent an hour loading up the well with fresh Bunker and then returned to the area we fished yesterday. We had Striper reads in the area but it appeared that there were less Bass in the area today. We managed to liveline our first Bass then the bite died for us. During slack water put out the Spoons and trolled 2 more big Bass, the largest was a 43" fish which weighed in at 30 lbs. July is fast approaching. Stripers, Seabass, Fluke and Bluefish will be in season. Call 732-323-8700 to reserve your day.

06/2/09
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul returned to the Striped Bass fishery with the Brad Fletcher charter. We ran south to Lavallette and filled our bait well with Bunker then ran up to the north where the Bass bite was taking place. The charter put 3 large Stripers in the fish box and we missed a couple of bites. The largest Bass measured 40". I am now booking July charters for Stripers, Seabass, Fluke and Bluefish. Get in on the action call me at 732-323-8700 to reserve your day.

06/1/09
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul had the Frank Ruddy charter on board the Bounty Hunter today. The weather had improved and the wind and ocean conditions were perfect for wreck fishing. We made 5 drops again on hangs and wrecks in 65 to 90 ft. of water. The Dogfish were on all the spots but were not a serious problem as the charter had a nice pick of larger Seabass on each stop putting together a catch of 75 Seabass. I am now booking July charters for Stripers, Seabass, Fluke and Bluefish. Don't miss out on some great fishing. Call me at 732-323-8700 to reserve your day.

Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Fishing today on the Barnegat Light Reef for fluke was a littel tuff. We caught many fish but not many keepers. We did have some nice sea bass on the drift that helped fill the cooler. The conditions were good and hopefully some bigger fish will move in soon.

06/16/09
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I had the Chuck Tucker party out today for a day of sea bass fishing. The ocean conditions kept us on the inshore wrecks today. Fishing was pretty good with some nice sea bass put in the cooler as well as some ling. We also caught some nice blackfish and some very large porgies, all of which had to be released.

06/13/09
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I was back on the wrecks today off Island Beach in 60' of water. All the inshore stuff had plenty of sea bass willing to bite. The 5-1 ratio took us a while to put a good catch together but at the end of the trip the cooler looked very good with nice sized keepers. The action was non stop all day.

06/10/09
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
The plan today was to wreck fish on some insore stuff off of Barnegat. With the pea soup fog in the morning I decided to stay in the bay and fluke fish as the water is much warmer and fishing has been pretty good. This proved to be a good move. We had plenty of fluke between the BB and BI bouys and an unlimited amount of bluefish. At the end of the trip many fluke were boated and a few nice keepers were put in the box.

05/30/09
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Fishing in the deeper water east of Barnegat Inlet was very good today. We had a good catch of very large sea bass and few under sized fish. We did catch a few nice black fish that were released and had only a few doogies today. All fish were caught on sand bugs and clams.i will stay with wreck fishing until the water warms up a bit and the fluke start biting.

05/25/09
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today I had a 3/4 day trip that was pretty good on the sea bas grounds. I fished NE of Barnegat Inlet in 65' of water. Not all wrecks had fish that were willing to bite but at the end of the day all anglers went home with a nice bag of sea bass and ling. The weather was perfect all an board had a great time being on the water .

05/20/09
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today's fishing was very good. We fished East of Barnegat Inlet on a few different snags and had good fishing for most of the day. The sea bass fishing was good with mostly large fish as well as a showing of cod, ling and some nice blues that were hanging around the wrecks. At the end of the day the cooler looked impressive and all anglers were tired from the none stop action.

05/13/09
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I started fishing in the deeper water east of Barnegat Inlet with hpoes of finding some larger Sea Bass in better numbers. The bite was off mostly beacuse of all the doggies around the wrecks. We found some nice fish but did better on the inshore wrecks. Inshore, we had a strong north current and the bite was definetely better. At the end of the day we managed a decent catch of large sea bass.

05/11/09
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today I fished East of Barnegat Inlet starting out in 75' of water. The wrecks had plenty of life on them but some of that life was dogfish. When the doggies came around the fishing for sea bass slowed as usuall.Moving inshore the fishing was much better and no doggies. We caught plenty of big sea bass today with a good number of blackfish on the soft baits.

05/06/09
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Fishing east of Barnegat Inlet in 60' of water was very good. Both sea bass and Blackfish provided action for this 3/4 day of fishing. The largest blackfish topped the scale at 13lbs and was released with all the other blackfish caught for the day.The sea bass fishing is just coming on but we did have avery good catch of keepers for the day.

04/26/09
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
I went back to the GSN today, knowing that I left fish on the wrecks yesterday and had high hopes that they would be in a hungry mood. The bite today was even slower then the day before and the conditions for wreck fishing were the worst that I can remember.I will fish for blackfish the rest of this week until the season closes.

04/25/09
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today we fished to the south of Barnegat Inlet in 80 feet of water. The blackfishing that I had hoped to fined was spotty at best. The conditions wern't bad but the bite was off today. We managed only a few keeper blackfish along with some nice sized sea bass. The weather was great and hopfully this fishery will be better tomorrow.

04/19/09
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Our first trip of the season turned out to be a good one. John Generose and friends enjoyed a good day on the blackfish grounds.Almost all wrecks had some fish willing to bite although the bite didn't last more than an hour on each wreck. At the end of the day we had a decent amount of fish in the cooler and put many fish back in the sea.The weather forcast kept us closer to home than planned butI thought the fishing was good on the inshore grounds.I will stay with this fishery until the season closes.

Captain Ray Burke Reports:
Yesterday's AM trip targeted stripers. Dick Skinder caught his limit in stripers up to 20 lbs. In the PM trip Fran Que chartered the boat and he we caught no stripers, but a huge catch of keeper fluke. The boat was almost limited out. This morning's fluke trip started on an excellent note with numerous keepers, but when a 25-30 mph wind came up out of the south the drift became so fast that we could not hold bottom and we were forced to finish up in shallower water with smaller fish. Carl Zimmerman and Jim Kurry caught multiple large fish. I have openings for the holiday weekend for both trips as well as for next week, both charter and open trips. Call Capt Ray: 732 803-6276.

The next OPEN BOAT DATE is Tuesday, May 19. Call or email to reserve your spot. 908-472-2684 Charter dates available are: This Sunday [Mother's day], Next Wednesday and Thursday, May 13, 14.

MARYLOU CREW Sportfishing

06/28/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Mary Lou Crew was back out for day two of Mako Mania and day three of Jersey Coast. Again going back to the same area of the last two days due to really good looking signs we had the lines in by 8am. At 9:30 we have our first hit and after a short time a 100 pound mako next to the boat. We all decided to cut him free to grow. The rest of the day we had several blue sharks except for one run on are long rod with a whole blue fish. This with thought was the one!!! After taking more then half the line on the 50vsw and a short fight, we bring him up and see its a dusky shark!!! We gave it a good go and had more fun the ever but did not get the right one for the scales!!! It hurt knowing that our first fish on Friday would have put us on the board and into some money!!!

06/27/09
Capt. Darren reports:
The crew of the Mary Lou was out for day one of Mako Mania and day two of Jersey Coast for another shot! We went right back to the same area where we had the fish the day before. With no drift in flat seas it was not the greatest conditions for Makos. At around 9:15am the close rod next to the boat gets hit and right next to the boat a nice size Thresher eats the bait and the fight is on!!! After 50 minutes we have the fish hanging next to the boat! The rest of the day we only had blue sharks and no Makos!! Back at the scale the fish was weighed at Hoffmans Marina and we had 250 pound fish and a lot of shark steaks!!!

06/26/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Mary Lou Crew was out with the boys from the Saw Mill Gun Club for a shot at the Jersey Coast Shark Tournament. With a nice forecast and ocean conditions we made a 56 mile run to great looking shark water. We set up and the waiting began and boy did this group stick it out. With not a bite all day it finally happened at 2:45pm!! It was are first Mako! It turned out to be a small one around 80lbs that was cut free. A few minutes later the rod goes off but the fish neverr takes the bait, we reel it up and another Mako at around 150lbs follows our bait right to the boat. After trying to get him to eat he finally takes a big bite of our bait next to the boat but never gets the hook! We set the lines again and 5 minutes later he takes the fillet!!! This time we have a solid hook in him and have him within 20 feet of the boat and the fish rolls up the leader makes a run and breaks us off!!! Not thinking this would be a fish for the winner board we get the lines back out and have another big shark eat again this time thinking its the one it turns out to be a 275lb blue shark. Great end to the day! The hard part was finding out on the last day that the fish we broke off would have put us on the board and we would have one some money!!!!

06/13/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Mary Lou Crew was out for the Brett T. Bailey mako tournament. After running and looking for some warm water, we settled in at our spot for the day. We sure did catch sharks however the were not the kind we were after!! The blue sharks were thick, so bad that we had to pull the lines out of the water and switch to sight fishing. We could not get a bait in the water without having one on. At the end of the day we lost count, and headed for home in nice sea conditions. Once again great job done by Art Dellasalla on running a top notch tournament!!!

06/12/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Had George Gibson and crew out again for another shot at some stripe bass. We started out on the troll but did not get a touch. We switched over to some live bunker after a call from another boat. We hooked up on 6 big fish during the bite, but the charter only managed to land 2 fish. Once the bite died we switched back to trolling but the fished stopped biting. A decent half day trip considering all the dropped fish!

06/11/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Mary Lou Crew was out for a day of sharking with just two onboard. Made our way out in thick fog and set up. Had our first bite in about an hour after setting up and continued through the day. At the end of the day no mako or thresher but had 6 blue sharks. Fog stayed with us all day but nice sharking weather. Water was still a little cold but fishable.

06/4/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Had the boys from Cedar Grove Police Department out today for a full day Striper trip. Weather in the morning was not that great and it took a little looking around to find the bait. Finally got into some real nice size fish. Unfortunately today we had 15 bites but could only keep 5 fish on the hook. The biggest fish was 33 pounds and another at 30. Of course the biggest fish of the day we dropped near the boat.

05/31/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Back out for our 4th trip in a row with Gene Brennan from Brennans tree service in Union. With 4 guys we got out nice and early and this proved to be the ticket. Pulled the throttles back and dropped the spoons in the water and had our first striper in the boat in 10 minutes. This bite lasted two hours and by 7:30 we had the 4 man limit and on bonus fish for good measure!!! Today we did not see as many blue fish with only a handful coming to the boat.

05/30/09
Capt. Darren reports:
The Mary Lou Crew had the Michael Gates group on board again this season and running down to where we left the fish biting the night before we thought was going to be the ticket. However getting there and dropping them in produced no hits!! After a little bouncing around we finally found them. By the end of the trip we had 10 fat fish in the box along with 30 blue fish!!! Great bunch of guys and another fine trip for this group!

05/29/09
Capt. Darren reports:
We were out for a half day morning trip with the boys from Pats Tavern "Dave Foss Charter". The weather in the morning was horrible with driving rain and strong winds. The group toughed it out and after making one move we dropped the hook and clammed a cooler full of decent size fish. We caught over 30 shorts and no blue fish! The rain left and the weather eased up for the second half of the day and a nice ride home.

Back out for an afternoon trip with Steve Ehripz charter from Allentown PA. We went right back to where we had them in the morning but with the tide changing and the wind blowing the opposite direction we were no able to get them to eat. We decided to break out the trolling gear and it turned out to be a great move. The 6 man charter put 2 fish shy of there limit in the boat on all nice size fish. The biggest fish went 30 pounds on the button. Left the fish biting and had a beautiful ride back to the dock!

05/25/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Mary Lou Crew back out for our third day with John Lang and friends. We went right back to where we had them the night before and the fish we there waiting. First fish of the day started the trip out right going 34 pounds! By the end of the day the coolers were full and the boys were worn out from reeling!! What a great way to end the weekend!!!

05/24/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Captain Darren and first mate Phil Mancini took the boat out for a little magic hours fishing for ourselves. With the thunderstorms not arriving for a little time we decided to make a run and see if we could get in on the hot striper bite. Well it never fails we crushed the fish. Non stop action from the time the spoon hit the water, we could not get two in at a time. We then switched over and jigged the fish. All the fish we in the mid 20's with an occasional 30 mixed in. Made a run for the barn and made before the thunderstorms!!

05/23/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Had George Gibson and his crew from Sussex County NJ out for a day of Striper fishing. Well George did it again!!!! We fished one location and never had to leave and by 1pm the cooler was full with the 6 man limit. The largest fish was 32 pounds with three others in the mid 20's! Great trip again for George!!!

05/21/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Had the boat out for a half day troll trip with two guys! Had the spoons in for 5 minutes and had our first fish on. The bite only lasted for about two hours and we had our two man limit with one fish going 32 pounds! Beautiful day on the water but still had to fight through the yellow eyed demons.

05/17/09
Capt. Darren reports:
We were back out again this time with the Mike Gates group. We started very close to where we were yesterday, but today we got them going good! We filled the cooler up with real nice fish and had a few blues to add to the catch. The weather was bad!!! The wind blew hard out of the North West and it was rock and roll on the anchor!! We called it a day by 10am as we had all the fish the charter wanted!!! Still have Sunday May 24th available due to a last minute cancel. Give me a call the fishing is getting bettter and better with the big ones moving in!!!

05/16/09
Capt. Darren reports:
Mary Lou Crew was out with a 6 person charter on Saturday in thick thick fog!!! Made on drop and had some fish nothing to get crazy over. We made a move and had some more fish but never really had them going. We did manage to put some fish in the box enough for everyone. When the tide changed we went on the move but no luck. As soon as we hit the dock the sun came out and it was beautiful!!!

05/12/09

The Mary Lou Crew was out with Tom and his son Robert Cannon for a half day trip of stripers! We started the day off catching the last hour or so of the outgoing tide, and we had the fish going for a while. More shorts then keepers but did put 4 nice ones in the box. Left when the tide slacked and went on the troll and put one more 35 inch fish in the box. This gave us our two man limit plus one bonus fish. Great trip with Tom and Robert!

Fintastic Charters

5/11/09
Capt. Tom reports:
Yesterday The FIntastic crew had the Ducks Unlimited charter out for after noon bass trip. We left the dock at 3pm to fish the incoming tide. We started out right away catching 2 keepers then nothing but bluefish for the next hour. As the tide started to run the bass bite turned back on we ended up keeping 8 fish and released a few more. Everyone had a great trip and where back at the dock before dark. Thanks guys look forward to see you soon.

5/9/09
Capt. Tom reports:
Saturday morning Tyrich Harris and family joined us for a morning bass trip. After a late start we decided to avoid the Saturday crowd at the Shoal and go bunker fishing instead. The morning started out a bluefishing fiesta. Just when we where ready to make a move we caught our first bass of the day. So we decided to stay put and keep it honest for the turn of the tide. Once the tide turned we caught 5 more bass up to 20 pounds, lost quite few more, and plenty of bluefish to keep the kids excited. FINTASTIC CHARTERS (732) 614-4181

Capt. Tom reports:
Today was the first open boat trip of the season . We had Glen, Isack, Bob, Marty and Joe with us. We started out clamming, caught 3 keepers and a few shorts. Once the tide started to slow the little bite we had died. Back to plan B. GO Bunker fishing. Caught 4 more keepers and lots of bluefish.

5/2/09
Capt. Tom reports:
Captain Nick and Tom had ALCS Construction out this morning bass fishing aboard the Fintastic. We started the day clamming… caught three keepers and a dozen shorts. With the clamming only producing a few keepers we decided to switch gears and go bunker fishing. The bunkers bite was steady and we ended up with five more keepers up to 22 pounds, and pulled the hook on just as many. The bite also included as many blues as you wanted. We had a great day and welcome our friends from South Carolina back for another season. We are sailing an open boat trip tomorrow 6am-1pm and I have one spot left. Our plan is to bunker fish in the morning. Call Tom if you are interested 732 614-4181.

6/21-22/08
Capt. Tom reports:
The Fintastic Crew of Captain’s Tom Kelly, Bruno Giuliari and Richie Andrews had the Eddie Hibbert charter on board for the two days of the Mako Mania Shark Tournament. Saturday: On Saturday we fished in the east side of the Triple Wrecks. We had no idea what was in store for us. We started our drift in 220’ of water and 69◦ water temp with good bait readings and closest boat was 3 miles away. At 10:30 am a huge splash occurred at the 30’ balloon. We only saw a massive shark tail disappear into the water. Richie at that point takes the pitch bait and feeds it back into the slick. He is instantly hooked up on a Penn 50SW with 21# of drag and 80# mono, the shark dumped nearly half the spool before we cleared the lines and began backing down on this monster. The rod was past to every charter member multiple times including the crew. This fish would just not come up. After two hours of pulling, backing down and spinning on this fish it finally came up. We grabbed the leader and couldn’t budge the fish any closer to the boat before it made another run. We had this fish up about nine times and could not get a good look at it. The size of this fish was unbelievable it had to weigh well over 1,000#. About 3pm we decided to try something else to break the stalemate. We realized that if this was a mako we wouldn’t have enough time to boat the fish and make the tournament’s 7pm weigh in, at this point we were 62 miles from Pt Pleasant, so forget the tournament rules. The plan was to swap the fish to a larger rod and reel. We had a Penn 70vs rigged with 200# spectra and 130# mono top shot which we attached a snap swivel to. The next time we were able to grab the leader we attached the snap swivel to the leader and cut the Penn 50 free from the fish. At this point we were able to apply 33# of drag to the fish and fight the fish from a swivel rod holder, similar to how we fish for giants in NC. The battle lasted for another 2 ˝ hours we put as much pressure as we could and finally at 5:30 pm the line parted and that was it. The battle lasted for 7 hours; we end up over six miles from original location and pulled into our slip at 9:30pm. We couldn’t be a 100 % on the identification of this shark but the tail shape leads us to believe it was either a Great White or a monster mako. We could never get good look at its head, it was always angled down. Sunday: On Sunday we fished the Northeast end of the Glory Hole. We setup in 200’ of crystal blue 69◦ water. There were whales on the surface and solid bait readings at 100’. At 9:30 the 30’ rod goes off and were hooked up to a 90 - 100# Mako, which was released after a short fight. We caught 2 additional Mako’s which were under the tournaments’ qualifying size of 66”. The weather was a little sporty by noon but by 4pm the wind dropped out and we had good ride home. In the 2 days of Mako Mania we fought a monster shark for 7 hours and caught 3 Mako’s not a bad weekend, if this sounds like fun, call us for dates and availability. Capt. Tom www.fintasticcharters.com

6/15/08
Capt. Tom reports:
Captains Tom Kelly and Richie Andrews gave the Bob Ott charter from Pt Pleasant, NJ a Father’s Day trip to remember, on the FINTASTIC. They started the morning snagging bunker outside of Manasquan inlet after filling the live well, they made their way north. An hour went by before they caught their first fish and then another as the sun rose the bass really turned on. The 12 person charter at one point had 8 fish on at once. The bass hit live bunker, heads, tails you name it. They landed over 25 bass and kept 17 for the table. Two fish weighed in at Clarks Landing came in at 38 and 44˝ # the largest this year on the Fintastic.

6/14/08
Capt. Tom reports:
Captains Bruno Giuliari and Tom Kelly had the Matt Detlet charter on the FINTASTIC for the Brett Bailey Mako Rodeo. We setup 55 miles to the southeast of Manasquan in clean 69 degree water, good bait readings, good drift and only 3 other boats in the area. With the table set we had high hopes for Mr. Mako, but we proceeded to catch and release 8 big blue sharks and a few bluefish which kept Matt and his friends quite busy. We’ll try again this weekend we’ll be fishing both days of Mako Mania. __________________ Captain Tom & The Fintastic Crew http://www.fintasticcharters.com (732)614-4181

6/12/08
Capt. Tom reports:
Captains Tom Kelly and Tom Savastano had the Stan Olszak charter on the FINTASTIC for and afternoon striper trip. Before heading back to Manasquan from the Highlands Captain Kelly threw his net and loaded the live well with bunker. We worked our way down to Asbury where the fish finder lit up with readings. We put her on the drift and had non stop action with Stripers from 18 to 30#. Stan an avid surf fisherman couldn’t believe this type of fishing.

6/11/08
Capt. Tom reports:
Captains Tom Kelly and Joe Patsco took the Marty Aberelle charter on the Fintastic for a late afternoon bass trip. Anchoring in 25' of water the trip started with a good blue fish bite and as the sun went down the bass really turned on. They end up chunking over 30 bass ranging from 20 - 27 # with the largest fish weighing 33#. They kept 18 bass table and released the rest to fight another day. The Fintastic is moving from the Highlands to Point Pleasant today and has some open date availble. We will be sailing from Clarks Landing Marina in Point Pleasant until December and then off to Morehead City, NC. This weekend we will be fishing the Bret Bailey Mako Redeo shark tournament and then back to Bass fishing on Sunday. __________________ Captain Tom & The Fintastic Crew http://www.fintasticcharters.com (732)614-4181

Kyle Alteri reports:
The morning trip failed to produce any stripers for the Tim Bethea group but they had lots of sea bass and some ling to make up for it. The stripers were on in the afternoon as the Jon Harding family boated 8 bass up to 34lbs. Many, many others were lost or missed.

6/24/09
Kyle Alteri reports:

Canyon Runner Sport Fishing

June 28 2009
Adam LaRosa reports:
Capt. Mark DeCabia took the 32' Regulator and Damien Romeo for a couple days of tournament shark fishing and had some of the best sharking we've seen in a long time. They ran about 45 miles southeast of Manasquan around the southern end of the fingers on day one and released 1 mako 100lbs, 4 browns, 2 duskys, and 7 blue sharks. They also had two threshers swimming around the boat during the day. With all that life they decided to head back there on day 2 and the fishing was even better. They proceeded to release one 90# mako, a 200# thresher, 8 blue sharks 3 browns and 1 duskys. Towards the end of the day they caught another thresher and this one they put in the boat. It was 189#. In 2 days of shark fishing they only had 1.5 hour lull.

June 26-27 2009
Adam LaRosa reports:
60 Ritchie Howell Canyon Runner 6/26-27 – 58 Yellowfin/15# Mahi/193# Mako w/Pics Capt. Phil Dulanie and newly minted Capt. John Timken (Congratulations John!) along with Brad Burgess and Adam LaRosa took out the Dr. Pat Cuozzo (Fairhaven, NJ) and Jay Garvey (Southern, NJ) on the 60’ Ritchie Howell Friday to Saturday. They headed to where the 48 was finishing up and immediately got into nice yellowfin. Putting the lines in just inshore of the tip of the South Toms canyon in 400 feet of water they trolled 100 yards and nailed a 40 pound yellowfin. Three of the next five yellowfin were 30-35 pounds and then the little ones showed up. Over the next 7 hours from 12:30pm to 8pm they caught a total of 45 yellowfin with 9 in the 25-30 pound range. Dr. Cuozzo’s son Jonah (12) caught the bulk of the fish and is getting everyone mounted according to an agreement reached before they left the dock!!! The bites were coming on everything obviously but the bigger fish were eating 6” Canyon Runner Rainbow Squid Bars. The little fish were crushing the ballyhoo as we went thru four 12-packs on the trip. We set up in 500 feet of water just south of the South Toms Canyon on a drift that took us just inshore of the tip of the Carteret Canyon. During that drift we nailed a 193# mako one a skipjack filet. Up on the troll in the morning we headed back up to the north by the south Toms and started picking away at the small ones again with another 13 yellowfin including 2 more keepers before we finished off at 8am with 58 yellowfin including 11 between 25-40 pounds and a 15 pound mahi.
60 Ritchie Howell Canyon Runner 6/25 – 8 Yellowfin 25#-30# Capt. Phil Dulanie, Capt. Mark DeCabia - and brand new Capt. Mike Zajac that finally got his tickets after 11 years working with us took out the Damien Romeo charter Thursday for a day troll. With the reports of bigger fish in the Carteret we headed there and had the boat up on the troll at 6am. By 8am we already had 4 nice 25-30 pound yellowifn in the boat. 2 were caught on the northeast corner of the mouth and 2 were caugth on the west tip. All the fish ate Canyon Runner Green Machine Bars and Rainbow Squid Bars. The nice water they were fishing in the Carteret moved out so they headed south to the Lindy and found the nice water again at the northeast corner of the Lindy. As soon as they got into the 68 blue water they found the yellowfin and pulled 4 more. They finished the day troll with 8 yellowfin with
60 Ritchie Howell Canyon Runner 6/24 - 5 Yellowfin Day Troll Capt. Phil Dulanie, Capt. Peter Doran and John Timken had the Pete Guaditis charter out on our 60' Ritchie Howell for a day troll Wednesday and with no water temp shot and no reports took a shot at the Lindenchol and worked the area with another boat. We went south to the Spencer after working the Lindy and the other boat went north to the Carteret. The Carteret was the place to be. We caught some skippies and between 1pm and 3pm had 5 yellowfin to 30 pounds all on Canyon Runner squid bars and ballyhoo. Capt. Mark DeBlasio had a turn around overnighter on the 48 Viking with Capt. Mike Zajac and Deane Lambros. They left the dock at 2pm with the Phil Lang charter and ran to the Toms canyon right where they left them the day before. Not getting there until 6pm they made the best of their few hours on the afternoon troll with 11 yellowfin to their credit. They continued to work the nice 62 to 68 degree break finding the yellowfin on the warmer side. Canyon Runner Rainbow Squid bars, Green Machine bars and ballyhoo produced best. They moved down the line to set up for the night on the drift but their night was uneventful. They got back up on the troll by 5:30am and ran back up to the North and immediately started picking away at yellowfin. They trolled up into the Toms and had their best action of the day. When the dust settled they had 38 yellowfin with 8 nice ones to 40 pounds the rest were released.

Adam LaRosa reports:
Capt. Mark DeBlasio, Capt. Peter Doran and Ryan DiBaggio took the Tom Little charter out on the 48 Canyon Runner on Wednesday to Thursday and headed right to where the 60 Canyon Runner was finishing up for the day. They put them in the water at the Carteret and pick a couple yellowfin in the 27” to 30” range before the bite slowed. The moved up the line and found a hard 62 to 68 degree break and put together a nice pick of yellowfin from 4pm to 8pm catching a total of 20. 4 of the yellowfin were in the 30-40# class and the rest were small. The fish ate mostly Canyon Runner rainbow squid bars and ballyhoo. They set up in the deep where the break was for the night and did not have a touch by midnight so they picked up the lines and moved up into 60 fathoms. From 2am to 5am they had 3 makos - releasing a legal size mako and losing 2. They stayed on the drift until 8pm and came home.

60’ Ritchie Howell - 6/19-20 – 20+ Blue Sharks/16 Tiles/Big Mahi Capt. Mark DeBlasio and Capt. Joe Miele with mates John Timken and Ryan DiBaggi took the Paul Pedretti charter offshore Friday into Saturday. We did not head back south as we felt strongly the fish we were catching had moved out with the water. Instead we knew good water was moving into the Hudson/Dip area so we headed in that direction. We were right about the water. As soon as they got just north-east of the mouth they had the nicest water we've seen so far and had two 15# mahi in the boat within 10 minutes of fishing. The water got up to 69 degrees but the warmer it got the less life they had. However they decided to shark up in that nicer water hoping for a mako. What they got was over 20 blue sharks and then lost count but no makos. Up on the troll in the morning they moved down to the west wall of the Hudson without a touch so they started drifting for tiles and put the chum back out. They picked away at 16 tilefish up to 8 pounds but no more sharks.

48 Canyon Runner – 6/19-20 – 167# Mako/Mahi/1 Yellowfin Capt. Phil Dulanie and Capt. Mark DeCabia with mate Deane Lambros took the Carl Bloomfield charter offshore Friday into Saturday. We did not head back south as we felt strongly the fish we were catching had moved out with the water. Instead we knew good water was moving into the Hudson/Dip area so we headed in that direction. We were right about the water. As soon as they got to the mouth of the Hudson they had the nicest water we've seen so far and had a 20# mahi in the boat within 10 minutes of fishing. The water got up to 69 degrees but the warmer it got the less life they had. The moved back to the cold water and nailed a 25# yellowfin in 64 degree water. They had good life there so they stayed the night and picked thru 6 blue sharks to nail a 167# mako. The charter needed to be home early on Saturday so they trolled just a couple hours in the morning with no bites and came home. We’ve been stuck at the dock due to weather now since Saturday night but plan on going tonight on a day troll and then hopefully fishing back to back to back overnighers thru the weekend so let’s keep our fingers crossed for good weather and finally for a water temperature shot with no clouds!!!

48 Canyon Runner Capt. Mark DeCabia, Capt. Mark Garretson and mate Ryan DiBaggio had out the Pete Cozzolino charter Monday to Tuesday on the 48 Canyon Runner and had a little work cut out for him but put together another great catch. Not leaving the dock until 3pm they arrived at the South Toms/Carteret Canyon area at 6:30pm and did not get a bite on the short troll bite that they had. They did however make up for it at night with a nice 110# mako caught along with a few blue sharks. Up on the troll in the morning they had a quick shot of 40 pound bluefins catching one and releasing one but then no other action. A move south down the line proved successful as they found the yellowfin up on top. In the last 3 hours of their trip they caught a total of 26 yellowfin with 2 - 40 pounders mixed in along with 3 - 25 pound fish and the rest were small in the 24-28 inch range and all released. They finished up the trip with 28 tuna with 4 – 40 pounders 3 – 25 pounders and the rest 26-29 inch fish that were released plus the second mako of the year. Pictures should be forthcoming tomorrow. Finally – I just wanted to let everyone know we have 2 spots left open for an rare Sunday/Monday open boat trip on our 48 Canyon Runner. The date is July 5-6 and the cost is $750 per person and that includes the tip. Please email me at adam@canyonrunner.com if interested.
60 Canyon Runner 6/15-16 – 4 Yellowfin/4 Bluefin/2 – 130# Makos! Capt. Mark DeBlasio took the Frank Perillo charter out on a canyon tutorial trip leaving the dock at 8am Monday morning and arriving at the south Toms Canyon at Noon. They got up on the troll where the 48 Canyon Runner left them biting on Monday morning but did not find the same life. They picked away very slowly on fish moving south to the Carteret Canyon and back north while staying on the 100 fathom line. They finally move into 50 fathoms inshore and never really found the same water they had the day before. The afternoon troll bite saw 8 tuna come to the boat. They had 4 bluefin all around 40" and 40 pounds. They also had 4 yellowfin with 3 kept in the 30" class. The bluefins were still all over the purple/black Canyon Runner Squid Spreader Bars and the yellowfin ate Green Machines and Green Machine bars. At night they drifted in 50 fathoms between the Toms and Carteret and nailed a 130# Mako released another mako of about the same size plus 6 bluesharks. At 7am they stayed on the drift as a big 300# mako was circling the boat but they could not get her to bite.

Adam LaRosa reports:
Just a quick heads up to anyone still on the fence about starting their 2009 tuna season - Capt. Phil Dulanie is back offshore after being on the Injured Reserve most of last year with no less then 5 bouts with pneumonia and seemingly has not lost his touch just yet. He is running a Sunday/Monday overnighter and with some usual intel from our 60 Canyon Runner basically stopped right on the yellowfin and bluefin bringing 19 to the boat in the first 2 hours and fishing up the afternoon troll with close to 35 tuna (25 yellowfin and 10 bluefin). They also called me just before mid-night noting that our first mako of the year was in the boat! With 40 tuna in only half a trip obviously everything they put in the water got bites but the bigger fish (40-50 bluefin) ate the purple/black Canyon Runner Squid Spreader Bars. By the way - this was an open boat trip and we have our next one scheduled for July 5-6. We have three open spots left open on this trip. The cost is $750 and that includes everything including the TIP. Please email me at adam@canyonrunner.com if interested

Adam LaRosa reports:
Well so it begins - Capt. Mark DeBlasio and Capt. Mark DeCabia along with John Timken took the Mike Tucci and Dr. Mark Smith charter out Saturday on our first canyon trip of 2009 leaving the dock at 9am and found the yellowfin shortly into the trip. They started up at the Toms Canyon putting lines in around Noon and worked south where around 3pm they went 2 for 3 on yellowfin. They ended up moving a little further south and started picking away at a decent pace. Catching double and triples with a fairly steady pace. They started to mix in a few bluefin ending the afternoon troll bite with 5 bluefin in the 30-50 pound class and 15 yellowfin with 6 that we kept from 30-33 inches and 6 we decided to release but they were keepers. They had most of the fish right on the 100 fathom line. They set up at 9:30 for sharking/swords but only had a blue shark to show for their efforts by the morning. The morning troll bite however did not disappoint as around 7:45am Sunday morning they began picking away at some nice yellowfin putting another 12 in the boat with two 40-pounders kept and the rest released. Again, almost all of the fish were in the 30-33 inch range with a few shorts but we only kept a total of 8 yellowfin for the entire trip despite catching a total of 27. We also kept the one bluefin we were allowed and released the other 4. According to the guys black/purple 9" Canyon Runer Squid Spreader Bars and our Canyon Runner Rainbow Spreader Bars accounted for most of the fish as they were feeding on 9" squid. But with 32 tuna to their credit and bunch others lost ever lure in the pattern at one point or another got crushed. ALSO WE HAVE ONE SPOT OPEN ON JUNE 29-30 IF ANYONE WANTS TO JOIN US ON AN OPEN BOAT TRIP

Adam LaRosa reports:
Guys – below is our last inshore reports of the year. On Saturday we ran offshore with our first overnighter of the season and go everyday now until mid-October. They are beating up on the yellowfin and nice 50# bluefin as I type this. I’ll get up a full report tonight but the tuna are here!
48 Canyon Runner – June 8 - 3 bass to 35 pounds Capt. Phil Dulanie and mates Ryan DiBiagio and Deane Lambros had the Scott Miller Charter out for a day of striped Bass fishing. The boys started right out front with the bunker schools right out in front of Manasquan Inlet. They ran south off Mantoloking, finding life but no bites. They than ran north just offshore of the Red Church and put 2 in the boat. The bite died and they continued to work in inshore and off, southward. Around 2 they put a nice 35 pound bass in the boat off sea girt. That was all the action for the day.
48 Canyon Runner – June 6 -2 bass Capt. Phil Dulanie and mates Ryan DiBiagio and Deane Lambros had the Scott Miller Charter out for a day of striped Bass fishing. The boys started right out front of Manasquan Inlet with the bunker schools but there were no bass under them. The guys got two bass all day and missed a few up by the Red Church. It was a hard day, as we really could not get a bite going at all.

May-June 2009
Adam LaRosa reports:
Despite the lack of reports we've been busy for the past 2 weeks inshore fishing on the 48' Canyon Runner while getting both boats ready to start our offshore canyon season. Rigth now it looks like it will all begin Saturday or Sunday depending on weather. Tuna have been caught within 100 miles of Manasquan Inlet and we are booked everyday starting Saturday on both boats - so it begins. But first, here are a bunch of reports from the last few weeks.
48 Canyon Runner June 8 – 3 Stripers Slow striper fishing during the morning continued on Monday as the Rich Alverado charter with Captain Phil Dulanie on the wheel and Ryan DiBaggio and Deane Lambros in the cockpit only scratch away at 3 bass during the entire trip. It seems that the afternoon bite is the way to go over the last few days.
48 Canyon Runner June 7 – 150 Sea Bass – 75 Keepers The Crew of the Canyon Runner took their kids fishing on Sunday and enjoyed some of the fasted action on Sea Bass in years. Ariana (9) and Alexa (6) daughters of Adam LaRosa were joined by Mike Zajacs son Ford and daughter Megan, Mike Vitielo’s son Bryce and Chris Hempstead’s clan too numerous to mention. They left Manasquan at 7am and by 10:30am had 75 keepers in the box and release just as many. Fishing a wreck 14 miles to the south in 80 feet of water Ariana LaRosa was the pool winner with a 3.5 pounder.
48 Canyon Runner June 4 - 18 bass limited out lost another 15 bites. Capts. Mark Debaliso, Peter Doran and mate Ryan DiBiagio had a the Tom Romondi charter as a charity trip. This group were talented angler which paid off in spades for them. The boys ran north to the Red Church area and put the baits in. Not more then 10 seconds went by and rod was doubled over. They put 11 in the box by 8am, and ran down the beach 2 miles to make bait. They ran back and got back in a steady bite, finishing with 18 for the day. The fish ate at all depths. Live bunker bunker were the key to get bites today. The biggest bass came in at 38 pounds.
48 Canyon Runner June 1 - 4 Bass Capt. Phil Dulanie and mates Ryan DiBaggio and Deane Lambros had the Guy Biondi charter for a day of striped bassing. The boys broke the inlet and headed north just out front. Seeing boat after boat after boat all hooked up and bunker flipping the surface. They pulled in and joined the fleet. They had all there action on top going 4 for 6 on Nice striped Bass. The bite lasted an hour fr0m 6 to 7. That was all there action for the day. They worked north to Asbury Park, and then south making drifts and they just could not get a bite going. The Bassing seems hot one day cold the next two. We will keep working at it until canyon Season begins, which is just around the corner.
48 Canyon Runner Report May 31 - 3 Blue Fish 64 Sea Bass Capts. Mark Deblasio, Peter Doran and mate Ryan DiBiagio had Lenny Demontagnac charter for a day of striped bass fishing. The boys went north south and offshore to fish and found nothing. The fish were biting early but there never got in on them. The key today was to get there early with bait already or you will miss the bite. They also trolled but to no avail. The boys ended up wreck fishing off 14 miles south of Manasquan and were able to get some beautiful sea bass in the boat.
48 Canyon Runner Report - 150 Sea Bass with 50 Keepers plus 2 cod – May 25 Canyon Runner Crew members Capt. Joe LaRosa, Adam LaRosa, his two daughters Alexa, Ariana, John Sakoutis Sr. and his 6 year old son John Jr., Capt. Mark Deblasio, and His son Mark Jr, Capt. Mike Zajac, his son Ford, Capt John Timken. All got in a fun trip to cap off a great Memorial Day weekend. They choose to fish the local wrecks off Manasquan. Catching 150 seabass and 2 cod. They only kept 50 keepers and released the rest of the shorts. They anchored up and got into a great bite bring in 2 fish at a time during some points.
48 Canyon Runner Report 8 Bass – May 24 Capt. Phil Dulanie and mates Ryan DiBiagio and Deane Lambros had Ed Picards charter for a day of Striped bass fishing on Sunday May 24. The boys went on the look out for bunker but could not make bait. Fortunately they had bunkers from day before still in the live well and drifted off Mantoloking. Finding bunker schools on the surface they were able to make bait, and in the process went 3 for 8 on nice Bass in the 36-41 inch range. After the bite ended Capt. Phil then got a call from Canyon Runner crew member Capt. Billy Rowan that the Bass were coming up off Sea Girt. So they brought the lines in and ran just offshore. The boys were in awe to what they saw. 1000’s of bass were busting bunker just offshore. Unfortunately the boys went a dismal 5 for 20 on their shots. They could not believe how lazily the bass were eating the baits. At the end of the day they ended up just off Spring Lake with fish in the box and a happy Charter and Crew they ended with 8 fish in the box.
48 Canyon Runner Report 1 Bluefish 0 Bass – May 23 Capt. Phil Dulanie and mates Ryan DiBiagio and Deane Lambros had Dave Guisse charter from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and Washington DC for a day of Striped bass fishing. Upon clearing the inlet the boys found pods of bunker breaking the surface. They loaded the live well and started to fish right off Manasquan. The boy’s worked everywhere and in between Manasquan to the Shrewsbury rocks. On the rocks they did catch one bluefish on a jig three cranks off the bottom, but even they did not want to cooperate. They did have one real nice run off which was unfortunately lost.
48 Canyon Runner - 80 Sea Bass with 40 Keepers in Half Day Trip – May 22 Canyon Runner crew members including Adam LaRosa, Capt. Mike Zajac, Capt. Phil Dulanie. Ryan DiBiagio, and Deane Lambros got out for a crew trip for sea bass on Friday for a short day of fishing before getting back to the boats to get them ready for canyon season. The guys fished two wrecks and only found dog fish on the Sea Girt Reef. We ran offshore to 65 feet of water and found a slow pick catching about 80 Sea Bass while putting about 40 keepers in the box and were back at the dock by 9:30am to get back to work.

Adam LaRosa reports:
Guys: I thought I'd put up a post today just to let people know we fished that finger of gulf water in the 1000 Fathom of the Washington Canyon yesterday. In that I'll bet the boys out of Ocean City, MD would like to know what we saw, and since a few guys down there are actually planning to go this weekend, I wanted to put up this report more for you guys then anything else. On Wednesday, we were on our way up from Oregon Inlet with our 60' Ritchie Howell and were about 20 miles inshore of that water with perfect fishing coniditons so Capt. Mark DeBlasio gave me a call on the SAT phone and we decided he should at least look it over. He and mate John Timken spent 3-4 hours trolling from just south of the tip of the 100 fathom line of the Washington due east out to the tip of the finger of water when the temp jumped from 62 to 66 degrees. He continued to move southeast to the hotest water and found 69.9 degree water by 4pm. He picked at mahi and skipjack all day but never had a tuna bite. He pulled into Manasquan Inlet at 11pm last night. We plan to start fishing offshore on both boats on June 10. We are booked everyday on both boats with overnight canyon tuna/mako/sword trips in June so hopefully plenty of good reports will follow. (AND PICTURES!) That said we are only going to go if there is 68 degree or warmer gulf stream water withing 120 miles of the inlet. Our only hope right now is that nice eddy just southeast of Hydrographers. It has move about 25-35 miles in the last 8 days and if it stays on that path we have a shot of getting some of the slope water that will be pushed up in front of it by June 10. If not we will cancel those charters until the tuna arrive. We only have about 2 dates left open on each boat in July, a few trips on the 48' in August, and a few trips open on each boat in September and October so if anyone is still on the fence about booking a trip please call or email now. We wish everyone up here and safe and prosperous 2009 canyon season!
