Bounty Hunter Sportfishing

07/30/10
Captain Paul reports:
The Mick Pirolli charter was on board the Bounty Hunter on Friday and Capt. Paul cleared the Inlet into a calm ocean. 8 miles off it was a different story as the NE wind had the ocean rolling with 4 to 5 ft. seas. We decided to come back inshore and at 2 miles the ocean was calm. It was a strange weather pattern which I am sure surprised many people. Paul decided to give it a second go and although the ride was rough we finally got to the Seabass grounds. The first hour we had rough sea conditions and a very slow bite but the wind dropped out by mid morning and the Seabass started to fill the box. The guys picked away and finished up with over 100 Seabass up to 3 lbs. in the box along with 6 Ling. My Aug. 9, 11, 17 & 19 Open Boat Bluefin Tuna trips are starting to fill up. Get in on the Tuna action. E-Mail or Call me at 732-323-8700 to reserve your spot.

07/29/10
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul had long tome Bounty Hunter supporter Mark Lukenda and his group on board for a day of Seabass fishing. After the south winds that blew thru the night and the remaining heave we did not know what conditions to expect. Again as was the case on the last trip we got off to a slow start. The water temp. had dropped to 70 degrees and the Seabass were slow to bite. As the day went on conditions started to improve and the guys fishing thru a few heavy downpours put together a catch of 81 fish which included 11 Ling. I will be sailing Open Boat Bluefin Tuna trips on Aug. 9, 11, 17 & 19. These trips will be to the Mid Range grounds 45 to 60 miles Offshore. We will be Chunking and Jigging only. E-Mail or Call me at 732-323-8700 for more info or to reserve your spot.

07/27/10
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul ran another Open Boat Seabass trip on Tuesday. On board were regulars Rich, Phil & Doug. Joining them were first timers Marc, Barry and Don. The morning got off to a slow start as the Seabass were slow to bite. We made a few moves and the guys had to work hard for the first 30 fish. We saw plenty of shorts but very few keepers. From mid morning on things started to get better and the Seabass started to pile up in the box. At quitting time there were over 100 fish in the box which included 5 Ling and one 22" Fluke. Great bunch of guys to fish with, lots af laughs and plenty of BB. I still have openings for the Aug. 2nd & Aug. 4th Open Boat Seabass trips. E-Mail or Call me at 732-323-8700 to reserve your spot.

07/24/10
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul had the Brian Williams charter on board the Bounty Hunter on Saturday for an abbreviated Seabass trip. We got off to a late 9AM start and by the time we set up on our first stop Ocean Motion had taken it's toll on the charter. By noon the Bounty Hunter looked like Motel 6. We called it a day at 1PM but not before a few of the determined anglers struggled thru and put together a catch of 40 Seabass and 1 Fluke. I still have openings for the Aug. 2nd & Aug.4th Open Boat Seabass trips. E-mail or Call me at 732-323-8700 to reserve your spot.

07/23/10
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul had the Hal Hall charter on board the Bounty Hunter on Friday and the great Seabass fishing continued. With no wind at all Paul decided to drift the spots and it worked out well as the charter put together another catch of 125 quality Seabass up to 3 lbs. 4 spots are avail. on my Aug. 2nd Open Boat Seabass trip and 5 spots on the Aug. 4th trip. E-Mail or Call me at 732-323-8700 to reserve your spot.

07/22/10
Captain Paul reports:
It was another good day of Seabass fishing on board the Bounty Hunter as Capt. Paul's Open Boat customers put together another fine catch of Seabass. Rounding out the crew were Steve, Bob, Barb, Keith and Mike. We got an early start and found the big fish on all 4 stops. The bite lasted until Noon and it was enough time for us to put together a limit catch of 125 Seabass up to 3 1/2 Lbs. I will stick with the Seabass as long as they are around in good numbers and size. 4 spots are still avail. on my Aug. 2nd Open Boat Seabass trip and 5 spots are avail. for the trip on Aug. 4th. E-Mail or call me at 732-323-8700 to reserve your spot.

07/19/10
Captain Paul reports:
The Paul Billy charter was on board the Bounty Hunter for a Bluefish/Seabass Combo trip. The Bluefishing in the AM was an absolute Hack as we ran all over the Bluefish grounds in search of the Blues. Several stops to try chumming was a waste of time as the Blues were not to be found on this day. At 10AM Paul decided not to waste any more fishing time looking for the Blues. We ran the 15 miles in to the Seabass grounds and set up on a pile that gave up 50 nice Seabass and one 20" Fluke. Everyone in the charter went home with a bag of Fillets. I am running Open Boat Seabass trips on Aug. 2nd & Aug. 4th. E-Mail or Call me at 732-323-8700 to reserve your Spot.

07/18/10
Captain Paul reports:
Igor Melnichenko was on board the Bounty Hunter along with his friends Vasili, Boris, Vladimir and Marina. It was Boris' birthday trip and they all celebrated at a party the night before in true Russian style. We got an early start and unfortunately by 10AM ocean motion had taken it's toll on the group. The white flag went up and we made a hasty retreat back to the dock, but not before the group had put 30 nice Seabass in the box. I am running Open Boat Seabass trips on Aug. 2nd & Aug. 4th. E-Mail or call me at 732-323-8700 to reserve your spot.

07/17/10
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul had the Chris Despo charter on board the Bounty Hunter for a day of Seabass fishing. Joining Chris were his buddies Vance,Joel & Tim. This was Chris' last fishing trip as a bachelor as he is taking the big step at the end of the month. We got off to a slow start on our first drop but the 4 man charter got hot on the next 2 stops. By 11AM we were boxed up with a limit catch of 100 Seabass up to 3 lbs. along with a couple of Ling and a couple of Blackfish. Along the way we released 3 Codfish. We called it a day early returned to the dock, filleted the catch and enjoyed a few cold beers with Chris and the boys. It was a perfect ending to a perfect day. I will be running Open Boat Seabass trips on Mon. Aug. 2nd and Wed. Aug. 4th. I will stick with the Seabass as long as they are around in good numbers and size. E-Mail or Call me at 732-323-8700 to reserve your Spot.

07/16/10
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul had the Rob Zwickel charter on board the Bounty Hunter for a day of Bluefishing. We got to the grounds early and had the Blues on Ava's within a few minutes. When we broke out the chum and switched over to bait it was non stop action. You could have caught all the Blues you wanted. The charter put 40 fish up to 12 lbs. in the box then released fish for an hour. We called it a day at Noon with a full box and the SE wind starting to kick in. My July 22nd & 27th Open Boat Seabass trips are now filled. Thank you to all that called.

07/14/10
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul ran another Open Boat Seabass trip on Wednesday. On board the Bounty Hunter were Rich, PA Doug and his wife Jen along with Jay, Tim and Tom. We started the day in a pouring rain a brisk SE wind and a big heave. Not the best of conditions but the crew did a great job and boxed over 50 Seabass on the first two stops. By mid morning the wind dropped out and the rain stopped and we finished the day in improved conditions. The final tally for the day was over 100 Seabass up to 3 lbs. along with a couple of Ling. My July 22nd & 27th Open Boat Seabass trips are now filled. The July 21st trip has been cancelled.

07/12/10
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul ran another Open Boat Seabass trip today and on board we had Steve, Rich, Phil, NJ Doug and PA Doug. We spent the day working the rough bottom and despite the residual heave from yesterday the fishing was good. We saw more short fish today then we have seen on previous trips but the guys picked away at the Seabass and put together a nice catch of 100 Fish which included 7 Ling. 4 Spots are still avail. for my Open Boat Seabass sailing on July 21st, 2 spots are open for the 22nd and 4 spots are open for the 27th. Get in on the bite while the Seabass are still around. Call me at 732-323-8700 to reserve your Spot.

07/11/10
Captain Paul reports:
The Shaun McGookin charter had a good day of Bluefishing with Capt. Paul aboard the Bounty Hunter. We located the Blues 20 Mi from the Inlet and dropped the chum bucket on their heads. We had our first fish on within minutes and the charter enjoyed a nice pick of Blues up to 12 Lbs. We finished up with over 30 Blues for the day with the charter keeping 24. We called it a day at Noon and started for home. 4 Spots are still avail. for the Open Boat Seabass sailing on July 21st. 2 spots are avail. for the 22nd and 5 spots are still open for the 27th trip. Call me at 732-323-8700 to reserve your spot.

07/09/10
Captain Paul reports:
The Chris Cameroni charter joined Capt. Paul on board the Bounty Hunter for his first Bluefish trip of the year. We found the Blues 15 mi. east of the Inlet but they were scattered over the area with no big concentration of fish. Chumming worked best for us as we had them good on bait in the morning. The charter boxed a dozen fish up to 12 lbs. lost as many and released fish for a while. When the bite turned off we spent the rest of the morning seaching and Jigging but did not have much success. 4 Spots are avail. for my Open Boat Seabass sailing on July 21st, 1 spot is avail. for the 27th and 5 spots for the 28th. Get in on the Seabass bite while it lasts. Call me at 732-323-8700 to reserve your spot.

07/08/10
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul ran another "Open Boat" Seabass trip today and the fishing could not get any better. On board were Norman Schawger his wife Patty, Sam Mathews, and Jim Eastwood and his wife Joan. The early morning bite was slow but with the rising sun the Seabass turned on. The 5 people on board put together a limit catch of 125 Seabass up to 4 lbs. along with 10 Ling. This was a great group to fish with and we are sure all will return to fish the Bounty Hunter again. I will be sailing Open Boat Seabass/Fluke trips on July 21, 22 & 27. These will be the last Open Boat trips for July. Get in on the great Seabass fishing while it lasts. E-Mail or Call me at 732-323-8700 to reserve your Spot.

07/06/10
Captain Paul reports:
The weather was hot and the Seabass fishing was good for the Open Boat customers on board the Bounty Hunter. Capt. Paul made a couple of early morning stops to look over some new grounds but he was not impressed so we began Rock hopping our way to the north. Again, we had no wind, drift or current so we drift fished all our spots. The Seabass came slowly but the crew managed to put together a nice catch of 90 Seabass up to 3 lbs and 6 Ling. Surprise of the day was a 5 1/2 lb. Fluke landed by Bob Long on a Seabass rig. I still have a few open weekend days avail. for charter in July & Aug. Now is the time to get in on the Seabass, Bluefish or Fluke action. Call me at 732-323-8700 to reserve your day.

07/05/10
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul had the David Knox charter on board the Bounty Hunter for a day of Seabass fishing. With no wind, current or drift anchoring was out of the question so we drifted on the first few spots in the AM. The Seabass bit pretty good early but started to slow down around 11AM. We picked on the last few stops and the 4 Man charter managed to put together a nice catch of 70 Seabass up to 3 lbs. and 1 Cod under less than favorable conditions. A stop to give the Fluke a try off Elberon only produced several shorts. 1 spot is still available for my July 12th Open Boat Seabass/Fluke Combo trip. E-Mail or Call me at 732-323-8700 to reserve your Spot.

07/02/10
Captain Paul reports:
The Mick Pirolli charter joined Capt. Paul on board the Bounty Hunter for a day of Seabass fishing. Getting an early start we had a nice pick of large fish on our first 2 drops putting over 60 large Seabass in the box. We then encountered a midday lull and only picked away at the occasional keeper. However the bite turned on towards the end of the day and the 6 man charter finished with a big flurry ending up with a limit catch of 150 quality Seabass up to 3 1/2 lbs. and 5 Ling. Several Blackfish and 1 Cod were released. 4 Spots are still available on my July 12th Open Boat Seabass trip. E-Mail or Call me at 732-323-8700 to reserve your spot.

06/30/10
Captain Paul reports:
The Seabass bite continues on the Bounty Hunter. Capt. Paul had the Hal Hall charter on board the Bounty Hunter and although Hal could not attend today's sailing due to a business commitment he sent his "A" Team to close the deal. We got off to a good start despite some nasty sea conditions this AM. A snappy north wind with a screaming current out of the East made for some difficult anchoring conditions. Despite the conditions we picked pretty good and after the wind dropped out and the current subsided the bite was on. The 5 man charter put together a limit catch of 125 quality Seabass along with 3 Ling and one 22" Fluke. We also released 3 undersize Cod. 5 spots are still avail. on my July 12th Open Boat Seabass/Fluke Combo trip. E-Mail or Call me at 732-323-8700 to reserve your spot.

06/29/10
Captain Paul reports:
The Seabass fishing continues to be good for Capt. Paul and his customers on the Bounty Hunter. Today Paul ran another Open Boat Seabass trip and on board were Mike Mayerczak and his buddies Rob, Steve, Otto, Joe and Long Time Bounty Hunter supporter Mike Frenzel. We got an early start and found the Seabass eager to bite. We made 3 moves and the Seabass bit well on all 3. We seen more shorts then we have seen recently but they did not stop the boys from putting together a 6 man limit catch of 150 quality Seabass up to 3 lbs. These fish will not be around much longer so now is the time to get your crew together and book your own private charter. Can't get a charter together? Then get on my July 12th Open Boat Seabass trip. Call me at 732-323-8700 to reserve your spot.

06/27/10
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul had long time Bounty Hunter supporter Don Yowell on board the Bounty Hunter for a day of Seabass fishing. We anchored on 3 rock piles and today the fishing was easy. We pulled 75 quality Seabass off the first pile and another 75 up to 4 lbs. off the next 2. Don also boxed a 22" Fluke. The 6 man charter was boxed up with a limit catch by 1PM and we headed for home to get started on the filleting. I still have 5 spots available on my July 8th Open Boat Seabass trip. E-Mail or call me at 732-323-8700 to reserve your spot.

06/26/10
Captain Paul reports:
After 2 days off to complete some overdue maintenance Capt. Paul sailed with the Angel Colon charter. On board with Angel were Arthur Spadafore and his young son AJ (AJFISH13). We had no problem filling the Well with 35 pieces as the Bunker schools were thick from Belmar down to Lavallette. Finding and catching Stripers was a bit more difficult. AJ and his Dad gave it a maximum effort as they fished on dozens of Bunker schools from Belmar south. Unfortunately they never got a touch. This was the last Striper trip for the Bounty Hunter until October. The July 6th Open Boat Seabass/Fluke trip is now filled. I have 5 Openings still available for the July 8th trip. E-Mail or call me at 732-323-8700 to reserve your spot.

06/23/10
Captain Paul reports:
Capt. Paul did a rare 3/4 day Seabass trip with the Mike Lewis charter. Mike had sons Michael, Ryan and their buddies joining him for the day. We started the AM hitting a few Rock piles and picked away, boxing some nice keepers on some spots while only seeing shorts on others. We worked our way north and had the same thing. Nice size keepers mixed in with a lot of shorts. It was a day with a lot of moving and working hard to put together a catch. Mike and the boys finished up with a respectable catch of 75 quality Seabass and a couple of Ling. I have days available in July for Fluke, Bluefish, Seabass and Mid Range Bluefin Tune charters. get your crew together and give me a call at 732-323-8700 to reserve your day.

Miss Margie
Charter Boat

07/25/10
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today we drifted for fluke off Island Beach State Park.We had a good drift and caught fluke consistantly throughout the day. Mostly shorts today but decent fishing none the less. When the drift was steady so was the fishing.A good day on the water for all.

07/18/10
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Our first fluke trip out fro the season brought a few fish into the box. With a steady pick of sea bass and fluke throughout the day we managed some nice keepers of both species. On any given day at the reef you could have a decent to pretty decent catch at the end of the day. We did enjoy a good drift and good seas.

07/13/10
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Today my charter enjoyed some good sea bass fishing. The 3-5' seas and a little rain did not discourage this group from staying with it all day long. Fishing was consistant on all wrecks with some nice sea bass, porgies and a limit catch of black fish.At the end of the day everyone went home with a nice bag of fillets and happy.

07/6/10
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
The last two sea bass trips have been a little slow for us.Both Garden State reefs have had few fish for this time of the year. Although we manage a decent catch by the end of the day I am hopeing for some better fishing on the southern wrecks into July. The bonus fish on our last trip was a 5+lb sea bass caught on the Barnegat Light Reef.Fluking is improving on that reef as well.

06/21/10
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
TOday we started our fishing north of Barnegat Inlet and worked our way back home. The fishing in calm seas was pretty good until the afternoon when the south current started rip. All wrecks had some pretty decent sea bass and some large ling for a bonus. At the end of the day we had a decent catch and a great day on the water.

06/12/10
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Fishing at the GSN was just OK. Tee sea bass bite was slow for most of the day with the cold water and constant southerly breeze. We picked away on two different wrecks with about the same results. The weather was great and it was a good day on the water. As the water warms up the fishing to the south should improve with great results.

06/04/10
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
The first trip on the new Miss Margie went well. The wrecks east of Barnegat Inlet all had decent signs of life but with the cold water and a south wind it was a slow pick for most of the day. At the end on the trip we had a mixed bag of cod, ling sea bass and blackfish.

05/13/10
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
As I reached the bay waters in the mako the temperature had me a little concerned but the flats had crystal clear water and the bass and blues were very hungry. The afternoon produced none stop action with both species of the biggest kind. The blues are some of the largest I have seen in years and are not shy of anything. The new "Miss Margie" a 38 Henriques El Bravo will be in service in a few weeks and ready to fishing.

04/24/10
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
Fishing the wrecks south of Barnegt inlet worked out well for today. The taug fishing was a little slow today but we did manage a limit catch by noon as the bie stopped all together.A few larger fish were put into the box today but mostly the size average was around four lbs.On the way back home we trolled some nice keeper bass that we saw swirling on the surface along with a fair number on big blues. The weather was great making for a perfect day on the water.I will switch over to bass fishing at the end of the month until the sea bass season opens.

04/11/10
Captain Kevin Delanoy reports:
We made our first trip of the season for blackfish and had good results. Fishing on the GSN was pretty good for most of the day with a few slow times. Most of the fish were big with only and few a the minimal size limit. At the end of the day we had 20 fish in the box with the average size at 5lbs. It was a good start to the season and should only get better.

Fisher Price III Sportfishing

07/31/10
Captain Derek Bielitz Reports:
Had the Eric Baeri charter out this morning for some bottom fishing. Drifting around structure for the day produced non stop action with sea bass and some ling. Only problem was most of the sea bass were short. Ended the day keeping 38 sea bass and 6 ling up to 3 lbs.

07/29/10
Captain Derek Bielitz Reports:
Had the Scott Gallion charter out this morning for some fluke fishing. Unfortunately we did not see the fishing that we have had due to lack of drift. Bouncing around on the rough bottom and in the channels produced a slow pick of 7 keeper fluke to 8 lbs. The guys dragged large strip baits and bounced bucktails all day and gave it hell. Hopefully things will get back to normal over the weekend. __________________

07/27/10
Captain Derek Bielitz Reports:
Had out John Murray and his wife Jamie this morning for some fluke fishing. Bouncing bucktails and drifting large strip baits on the rough bottom, the crew was able to put 8 keeper fluke in the boat up to 8 lbs. We will be sailing open boat this coming Sunday 8/1 for fluke. We will be departing the dock 6am and returning sometime after 2 pm. Price is $120 per person. This includes all bait, tackle and tip for the mate. We will supply your first two bucktails and then will have them for sale on the boat. For more information and reservations, please contact Capt Derek @ 732-861-3394.

07/25/10
Captain Derek Bielitz Reports:
We were able to get out both days this weekend on our open boat fluke trips. Saturday was a beautiful day to be on the water to escape the heat. Bouncing around on the rough bottom bucktails and large strip baits produced 18 keeper fluke to 6.10 lbs. Sunday was almost identical to the previous day. Setting up where we left them, the crew managed to pick away through out the day boating 18 keeper fluke to 8.5 lbs on bucktails and strip baits again. We saw better quality fish as we had 9 fish that were 4 lbs or better.

07/20/10
Captain Derek Bielitz Reports:
Had the Ted Metzker charter aboard this morning for some fluke fishing. Headed right out to the rough bottom. Bouncing bucktails and drifting large strip baits the 4 man charter fell one fish short of a limit. The crew landed 23 keepers to 6 lbs with around 12 of those fish averaging 3 to 4 lbs. We also had a few sea bass to 3 lbs mixed in with the fluke. We will be running open boat this comming Fri 7/23, Sat 7/24, and Sun 7/25 for fluke. We will be departing the dock at 6 am and returning around 2 pm. Price is $120 per person. This includes all bait, terminal tackle and tip for the mate. We will supply your first two bucktails, then will have them for sale on the boat. For more information and reservations, please contact Capt Derek at 732-861-3394.

07/10-11/10
Captain Derek Bielitz Reports:
Fished the Sandy Hook Bay Anglers tournament this weekend. Decided that we would fish the rougher deeper water looking for one fish this weekend. Saturday was a beautiful day out on the water with light wind and cloud cover. We had the right conditions where we were with the six man crew managing to put 28 keepers in the boat to 8.6 lbs. The fish were all caught on bucktails with stripbaits. Made the run to the weight scale and tied the first place weight putting us in for second place. Left Sunday morning and planned on fishing the same general area as we knew there were some good fish there. A big se groundswell and lousy conditions made for a tough day. Bouncing around on different areas of hard bottom, the 6 man crew was able to put 16 keepers to 5 lbs in the box. Unfortunately we were unable to find a bigger fish but still had a good time. We still have dates available throughout the month. Now is the time to take advantage of some great summer time fluking and bottom fishing. For more information and reservations, please contact Capt Derek @ 732-861-3394.

07/06/10
Captain Derek Bielitz Reports:
Had the Gary Faultz charter out this morning. Decided to take a shot at the bass fishing and then go fluking afterwards and it was a good choice. As soon as we got to where we have been fishing the past few weeks and got the baits in the water, it was non stop. The 4 man group tallied 13 keeper bass keeping there 8 fish limit up to 32 lbs and releasing all the rest. We had a few blues mixed in as well. Once we started to lose the tide, we went and gave the fluking a try. After a slow couple drifts the guys wanted to head home and try to escape the heat.

07/02/10
Captain Derek Bielitz Reports:
Had the Paul Rubbe charter out again today for another great day of fishing. Started off bass fishing this morning. Drifting live bunker this morning put 5 bass in the boat this morning real quick this morning. Deceided to try anchoring and drawing the fish to us and boy did it work. Within 45 minutes three of us put another 15 fish to the boat up to 30 lbs. Keeping only our limit plus one bonus fish with all the bigger fish swimming away to fight another day. The bite died and we made a run to try some bucktailing. In a few hours we put 9 keeper fluke to 9 lbs in the boat plus a few sea bass and released a bunch of shorts. A beautiful day on the water with good friends and the fishing couldn't of been any better.

07/01/10
Captain Derek Bielitz Reports:
Had the Paul Rubbe charter out this morning. Heading to the same area we have been fishing it didnt take long to find them. Within a few drifts we had our 6 fish limit of stripers to 32 lbs. Made a few drifts in the bay for fluke with the bucktails and managed one keeper around 3.5 lbs and a bunch of shorts.

06/24/10
Captain Derek Bielitz Reports:
Had the Pete Romer charter out this morning. Was able to make bait easy and fished very local this morning. Found the readings we were looking for and as soon as baits hit the bottom it was game on. The charter limited out on the first drift and then played catch and release for the rest of the morning. Total for the day was 21 keeper bass to 24 lbs. We still have some mornings and afternoons available in June and July for striper trips. We will be fishing for them as long as they are around. We are also now booking fluke and bottom fish trips throughout the summer months. For more info and reservations, please contact Capt Derek at 732-861-3394.

06/22/10
Captain Derek Bielitz Reports:
Had the Marty Noll charter aboard this afternoon. Found some marks locally so started drifting. The fish were spread over a large area. The charter managed to box 5 bass to 29 lbs along with several bluefish. We will be running open boat this coming Sat 6/26 and Sun 6/27 for Sea Bass and fluke. Price is $120 per person and this includes all bait, tackle and tip for the mate. For information adn reservations, please contact Capt Derek @ 732-861-3394.

06/18/10
Captain Derek Bielitz Reports:
Ran our open striper strip this morning. Fishing was slow overall with the group only boating 2 keeper bass to 20 lbs along with several bluefish. The afternoon trip with the Jeff Dinger charter was a completely different story. Made some bait down the beach. Stopping on some readings, the charter had a few bass blowups and some bluefish bites. A short ride south put the charter into non stop action with all bass. They ate live bunker, dead bunker, swimming plugs and popping plugs. The group managed to land 16 bass to 45 lbs only keeping 5 for the table. Jeff's sons at age 11 managed to land fish of a lifetime at 45 and 42 lbs.

06/17/10
Captain Derek Bielitz Reports:
Had the Steve Soos charter aboard this morning for some striper fishing. Was able to make bait on the outside today and ran down the beach to fish some bunker pods. The hard NW wind made the drift to fast to stay with the bunker schools. Anchoring on some structure the charter managed to box 3 bass to 20 lbs while missing several other bites in tough conditions.

Megan Beth Sportfishing

07/25/10
Captain Dan McGivney reports:
Crew of Larry,Pete and Brian were on board as well as Jan and Joann . Crew decided to go Sea Bass fishing. Stopping on the first drop we managed a ling right away. Made a couple moves on the wreck and caught a couple Sea Bass. Then no bite at all. Second stop produced some fish every where we droped . As the wind died out we went on the drift and we caught a few on the Drift. . Made a move with in a 1/2 mile and got nothing. Last stop of the day we finaly had a steady pick with some nice keepers. Also had a small Polock and a winter Flounder released. By days end we had 60 nice Sea Bass in the cooler. Great day on the water with a nice group and lots of fun and laughs.

07/16/10
Captain Dan McGivney reports:
Mike Ryan family was aboard the Megan Beth for a day of Sea Bass fishing. Heading off to our first stop in calm seas ,the first drop produced steady action on keeper Sea Bass. Slowed up a liitle and adjusted the anchor we had a good bite going, Sea bass,Cod,Ling,Conger eels,Blackfish. By 11:00 Am in the wind was coming out of the SE on and we lost the bite. Moving into another spot we first picked a few Sea Bass then we got off the spot, by then the wind was howling. Have a hard time we decided to drop on one more spot , no good ,had three sand sharks and a sea robin. Wind ruined the day. By days end we had 60 keeper Sea Bass ,1 Cod and 15 ling in the cooler. Damm SE wind...

07/11/10
Captain Dan McGivney reports:
Regulars,Lou,Jo,Don and Dennis, were aboard the Megan Beth for a Bluefish /Fluke Combo. Headed up to the North where we had fish the day prior and reports from the East were slow on Saturday. We were welcomed with a huge ground swell and a north east wind. Did not read much all the way up to the rocks. Settled in on the drop with some readings. Had a Bluefish right a way and a nice Fluke on a Butterfish chunk. Then it died. No current and no bite. Moved around a little bit had some sea bass and a few Bluefish. Trying a couple spots on the way home only produced some throwbacks and some Sea bass. Days total was 1/2 dozen Bluefish, 3 keeper Fluke and 1/2 dozen keeper Sea Bass. All and all a slow day..

07/10/10
Captain Dan McGivney reports:
Paul Gotlick and crew were aboard the Megan Beth for there annual Blue/ Fluke trip. Heading up to the north hoping for some fresh bunkers ,we found no bait until we got off Long Branch. There was some blues working on rain fish. Woud up picking four blues as the fish were on the move. Going on the hook we had another 14 blues and plenty of swings and misses. Tide droped out and so did the bite. Managed two nice Fluke on bluefish hooks . Going on the drift only produced one more keeper Fluke and a few shorts and a couple keeper Sea Bass. No wind or tide//

06/26-27/10
Captain Dan McGivney reports:
On Saturday we fished the Mako Mania/JCSA tournements, On board were ,Lou,Joann,Russ,Steve and John. Running to the SE 54 miles we had plenty of life, whales, tuna, blues, birds feeding on sand eels and butter fish. All the conditions were right all we had was a blue shark, plenty of blues and a small mako that swam around the boat but dropped the bait and we never saw him again. On Sunday Tony Glover and crew were aboard for a Sea Bass trip. Stopping on some local spots we had a steady pick of Sea Bass .Wound up with about 24 keepers ,some ling, one short fluke,a couple of small blues, and about 20 black fish all which were released. One ling was a huge one and weighed in at 5.3 lbs. Great day to be on the water.

06/19/10
Captain Dan McGivney reports:
Open boat crew consisted of Doc,Pete,Shawn,Dan,Tom and George. Heading up North there were bunker right outside the inlet. While putting 3 dozen bunkers in the well, we had one bass pick up a snagged bunker ,but the fish dropped the bait. Moving a few miles north there was a small fleet working some bunkers schools. Sneaking in we got a few live ones out and had two more run offs. line broke on one and second one line jammed in spool. Bite was over with in the hour,it did not last long. Headed up north and dropped in on a rock pile. First fish was a bluefish bite off and then we finelly got a bass on a chunk, Worked a steady pick , and ended the day with 7 keeper bass and 1/2 dozen bluefish. Dropped about 8 others and released 3 short bass in around the 25 inch mark. Nice day on the water

06/12/10
Captain Dan McGivney reports:
Wilkins and Crew were aboard the Megan Beth for a day of bass fishing , Heading out a little later then we wanted .We found the bunker just to the north of the inlet. With the bait spread out and tough to snag. A center console Contender pulled up an cast neted a bunch, my luck Jay the mate from the Renagade was on board and gave us all the bunker we can use. Thanks again!!! Off to the fishing grounds. Headed north and found some bird activity, only small blues chasing the rain fish. Got to the rocks and it looked like a parking lot with about 100 boats. Got settled in on the anchor ,not the spot I wanted . First 1/2 hour with no tide Tracy Mascilak got the first fish, with a help from mate as the fish ran up to the anchor the first fish was fought off the bow and was 28 lbs. Next hour and a half slow,as boats started to head off to switch to fluke or sea bass we made a move to a better spot. Had a couple quick pick ups and dog fish, bluefish bite off we managed a 29 inch Bass. Stuck it out and we had another fish 24 lbs on a live bait . Mike Desilva did a great job as the fish were stubborn and wanted to head under the boat and up the line. Days end 3 for 8 on the bass. Tough conditions wind against tide and a bumpy ride home.

06/05/10
Captain Dan McGivney reports:
Crew of Jim Sabo, Doc and Cock Robin Pete were aboard the Megan Beth for a live lining bass trip. Left the inlet at 5 AM and found the bunker right outside the inlet. Loading up the live well with bunker in about an hour it was off to the fishing grounds. Looking off Asbury we read a few with ,but not enough to stop on. Went up a little further an anchored up on a drop off. Bite was on ,the first fish was taken on a chunk, then we got one on live bait. Had a steady pick all day and crew caught thier limit as well as the captain and the mates share. Fish were all from 29 inch up to 20 lbs.Release a couple shorts. One bluefish taken and a couple bite offs as well as a couple Sea Bass taken when baits dropped to the bottom. Great day on the water for us..

05/31/10
Captain Dan McGivney reports:
Jisu Noh and crew were aboard the Megan Beth looking for Striped Bass. Heading North of the inlet we found the bunker a couple miles from the inlet. They were not thick and we had to work hard to get our baits. After a couple hours we had a couple dozen bunker in and were off to go fishing. Stopping at a couple spots on the way up and despite birds working we had no takers at all. Heading back to a drop off where we had the Saturday we anchored up. With in 15 minutes we had our first fish in the boat. Did not have a touch for the next couple hours. Then we boated three more in the next 1/2 hour. By 1 :00 PM we started back on the troll and tried a couple spots. We managed 5 Bass in the 15 lb class and one Bluefish. Nice day on the water and a great crew.

05/29/10
Captain Dan McGivney reports:
Jim Sabo and the doctor party were aboard the Megan Beth for Striped Bass live lining trip. Catching the bunker just North of the inlet, we snagged 30 and put them in the live well before heading up to Asbury to drift the bunker. We read a few fish but had no takers. Moving to a local drop off, we anchored up and chunked and put live bunk out in the slick. We had a slow pick landing 7 bass in the 15-20 pound class and missing 8 run-offs. It was a great day on the water with a great crew aboard the boat

Canyon Runner Sport Fishing

7/28/2010
Adam LaRosa reports:
Canyon Runner 7/28 – 5th Blue Marlin of the Season/13 Yellowfin/16 Bluefin and a White Marlin Capt. Mark DeBlasio with Capt. Ryan DiBagio and Capt. Deane Lambros in the pit did not like what they saw in the heart of the Hudson Canyon on Monday so doing their turn around trip they ran a little further south. They had the Kevin Grant charter on board from New York. Arriving at the 100 fathom line they saw a lot more bait but did not have a bite until just before dark when they had a nice 7 bagger of yellowfin all in the 50-60 pound class. They turned around and picked 1 more before setting up on the chunk. On the chunk they had squid around the boat all night and picked away at the yellowfin putting another 5 in the boat during the night bite and losing several more. The morning troll did not have any action with tuna but that was more than made up by marlin. First came a white marlin that tried to eat a ballyhoo trolled deep off the bridge and missed. Capt. Mark dropped the bait back and we were hooked up. A quick fight, a tag and a quick release and we were back up on the troll. The next bite was a blue marlin under the same sceanario – missed the long bridge rod on the first shot – Capt. Mark dropped back the bait and the fight was on. This lasted slightly longer but the blue was finally brought boatside billed, hook taken out, great pictures taken and off she swam. But the trip wasn’t over yet – feeling the need to find even more action the Canyon Runner Crew decided to run inshore and look for some Bluefin action. They found it! In 1 hour or so the boated 16 bluefin keeping a 56” fish and a 40” fish and tagging and releasing 14. Making it a total of 29 tuna for the trip – not bad guys but not 30!!!! By the way - that makes it our 5th blue marlin to be brought to the boat and officially released since July 7 – not a bad 3 weeks for New Jersey. Today’s blue was around 375-400 pounds. We caught blue marlin in that class, one 600 pounder and one 700 pounder. While today’s blue was caught on a ballyhoo 3 of them have been caught on new Canyon Runner lures we’ve been field testing and will introduce this winter – they seem to be working just fine. Pictured below is the Peter Schoels Charter from last week – our first charter to nail a Blue Marlin and White Marlin in the same trip this year – I’ll get today’s pictures up shortly. Canyon Runner 7/27 – 13 Yellowfin (4 Tagged and Released) Capt. Mark DeBlasio with Capt. Ryan DiBagio and Capt. Deane Lambros in the pit ran off to the Hudson Canyon at 5am Monday morning. They stopped at the inshore Bluefin grounds and quickly picked a 35 pound Bluefin but did not see enough to spend much longer there and ran off to the West Wall. Trolling all day was a slow pick with a nice bite just before dark and they ended the afternoon with 7 yellowfin in the box. They picked a few on the chunk and a few in the morning troll to end the trip with 13 yellowfin – they tagged and released 4 keeping only 9 for the table. I wish we had room for everyone who is calling for trips but we are basically completely booked up for August with just 1 date left open. It looks like we are looking at a traditional canyon season so we should have fishing well into October. But don't wait until then to book - please call now and secure a date - 732-272-4445.

7/27/2010
Adam LaRosa reports:
Capts. Hook, Mike Zajac, Joe Miele and Phil Dulanie loaded up the Mike Fasciglione charter on the 60’ Ritchie Howell and headed off to the Hudson Canyon Monday morning. They arrived in sporty conditions but with the Seakeeper Gyro turned on as soon as we started trolling it seemed flat calm to the group. The fish was weird. The quickly had a nice white marlin release and boated a nice wahoo and then lost another at the boat when it bite through the leader but that was it – no tuna on the troll. Setting up at night in 500 feet of water they hoped to put some meat in the boat – and boy did they. The night started out with a quick flurry of tuna going 6 for 6 in short order before mid-night. It slowed up until a squid down 100 feet on 60# flouro took off in the mouth of swordfish. The fight lasted for 1.5 hours as they couldn’t put too much pressure on the fish. It took us around the bow several times when finally they got it within gaff range and suck the hook. The fish was about 160 pounds. The morning troll was a slow pick with the boat going 2 for 3 and finishing up with 8 yellowfin in the 40-70 pound class, the nice sword, the nice wahoo and a white marlin release. The big variety of fish is what keeps the boys wanting to go out to the canyon edge and see what will bite next as you never know when fishing the deep! They are already back offshore again today on the troll (Tuesday) but moved south a little looking for a few more. I'll get pictures up shortly.

7/23/2010
Adam LaRosa reports:
Canyon Runner 7/23 – 16 Yelowfin (9 on Chunk) Capt Mark DeBlasio with Capt. Deanne Lambros and our newest captain – Capt. Ryan DiBaggio (congrats Ryan) in the pit took out the John Deno group with George Becker and Todd Zuccone on as well on an open boat trip Thursday to Friday. They left Manasquan in some sporty conditions but ended up making it to the 100-square area of the Hudson by 3pm. Trolling there did not produce the bite they had earlier in the week so they know it was time to look to where the fish had moved. A wiggle down the edge and across to the west side was successful as the quickly had a 4 bagger. Working that area into the dark they nailed 2 more yellowfin at 9:30pm on the troll and immediately set up there for the night. The night bite produced 9 yellowfin on the chunk and the morning bite produced another single for a total of 16. Only 12 were kept with 4 released to fight another day.

7/21/2010
Adam LaRosa reports:
On Wednesday, July 21 both Canyon Runner boats ran offshore to get back in on the tremendous bite we’ve been having. They left at 1am and arrived at the Hudson Canyon in the deep around sun-up. They started catching fish immediately and it never ever let up. A dozen by 7am, 20 by 8am, 30 by 9am and so on and so on. In the mix was another blue marlin caught on our 60’ Ritchie Howell. This is our 4th blue marlin in 10 days and the 3rd on the Ritchie Howell. This fish ate a Canyon Runner Streaker in Green and the group made quick work of the fish getting the official release in 25 minutes. The Peter Schoels charter was on the Ritchie Howell and finished up at 4pm with 25 yellowfin and the 375-400 pound blue marlin – not to mention a white marlin as well. Capt. Phil Dulanie, Capt. Mike Zajac and Capt. Hook made up the crew. While the Ritchie was playing with marlin inbetween 25 yellowfin the 48’ Viking with Capt. Mark DeBlasio on the wheel and Ryan DiBaggio and Capt. Deane Lambros in the pit was just crushing the yellowfin. They didn’t have to lose time fighting billfish and had a much faster pick of yellowfin. They finished up with 44 yellowfin to their credit in about 9 hours of trolling. Obviosuly these fish are eating anything. Our normal patter of 4 Canyon Runner Spreader Bars and tons of ballyhoo and big single lures is all we are putting out but there is not much thought to it with 69 total yellowfin to our credit for the day and probably close to 90 hooked. One very important thing to mention – we only keep about 14 yellowfin on each boat and tagged 35 and released them back to the seas. If you are waiting to fish – don’t wait any longer. We are now fully booked on one boat until mid-September and only have 4 dates open on the other in August - so if you'd like to get in on the action with us please call ASAP - 732-272-4445. The canyons are on fire again – and inshore ain’t bad either. Capt. Mark DeBlasio took the John Dale charter out Saturday morning and ran right back to the Bluefin grounds by the Chicken Canyon. Putting out the way way back ballyhoo and a planner rod it didn’t take long until one of the ballys on the way back was eaten. This fish was a real one. The fight carried on for a very long time with John on the rod for most of it and ended up 2 hours later with an 80 inch Bluefin laying alongside the boat. The fish was fought on a Penn International 50VSW and swam away fine. They also picked a 35 pound Bluefin in there as well. They motored out to the Hudson Canyon and worked out to the 100-square area to find a nice break and a ton of fish. In very short order they had 11 yellowfin and 1 for 2 on white marlin. They finished up the afternoon troll tagging and releasing yellowfin with a total of 24 fish with many tagged and released including the white marlin. In release mode already they decided to focus on swording at night and only put out one tuna rod – well that rod caught 5 yellowfin at night and they caught another one on a spinning rod and popper right at daybreak when the yellowfin were breaking all around the boat. More interesting a boat next to us that did not do well on the troll worked the chunk bite hard and limited out on the chunk. These are all big yellowfin on the chunk “just like the ole days DAVE” – so if you miss chunking yellowfin get out there NOW!!! Of course watch the weather. Up on the trolling the morning the amazing fishing continued. They trolled fish all morning actually running away from yellowfin that were feeding on the surface to look for a big-eye. That didn’t work – they caught another 14 yellowfin before 8am and ended the trip with 38 yellowfin (22 YELLOWFIN WERE TAGGED FOR SCIENCE AND RELEASED). The yellowfin were all over our Canyon Runner Spreader Bars in Rainbow Squid and Green and Rainbow Green Machines and large ballyhoo and very large jet and single lures.

2 great fish for a total of 20 minutes trolling on our way to the canyon. - Leaving the dock at 8am Thursday morning Capt. Mark DeBlasio took an open boat charter with Mark Novembre and Dave Middleton out on the Canyon Runner. They arrived at the Bluefin grounds by the Chicken Canyon and once finding the life put out the lines and within 10 minutes of trolling had a bite on the way back ballyhoo. 1 hour later the 72 inch fish was at boatside. They put back out the lines and 10 minutes later had another bite. 1 and a half hours later a 74 inch was put in the boat and off they went to the Hudson Canyon. That fish was 200 back at the dock. Arriving at the west wall around the bend they had 4 yellowfin before dark with 2 nice ones and a couple rats. The night bite did see 1 nice yellowfin boated. Up on the troll in the morning they had two shots of fish going 3 for 3 and 4 for 4. They also went 1 for 2 on white marlin. The yellowfin are eating Canyon Runner Spreader Bars and lots of ballyhoo. Adam LaRosa reports:
Sorry for the compilation of several reports in one but we’ve had a busy week and I wanted to get all these out there before the weekend. Starting with the latest first, on Thursday, July 8 Capt. Phil Dulanie, Capt. Mike Zajac and Capt. Hook took out the Tom Bileicki charter on our 60’ Ritchie Howell. They left early morning for an extended overnighter and ran to the southwest corner of the Hudson right back where the bite was hot. Well it wasn’t that day – trolling all day they picked away at only 3 yellowfin before being called in by our other boat 10 miles further south. By the time they got there that bite was over so they stayed for the night. The night was again uneventful but the morning was far from that. Trolling from 4:30am to 9am they boated another 11 yellowfin and tagged and released 2 for a total of 16 yellowfin in the 40-70 pound class. Continuing on the 60’ Ritchie Capt. Mike Zajac and Capt. Hook took out the Derrick Rodberg charter Sunday to Monday to the Hudson only to see the great action completely died out. Trolling with Derrick’s two sons and their friend (9 year olds and 11 year olds) we had fun with mahi and a nice yellowfin very quickly to get the kids settled in but then they really got to experience offshore fishing. Nothing happened the rest of the afternoon troll. The night bite – which ended up being one of the prettiest nights in the canyon was eventful in the fact we boated our first yellowfin of 2010 on the chunk when it ate a dead squid at 50 feet. The morning boat saw another couple mahi but no other tuna. The last trip on the 60’ was on Monday-Tuesday, July 12-13 with the Damien Romeo charter. Due to the drop off in the Hudson we headed to the Lindy are and had an interesting trip. We trolled 1 yellowofin and 1 longfin in the afternoon. At night we nailed a 120 pound mako and a mahi. Up on the troll in the morning we nailed a nice white and saw a bunch more. 5 flags for 5 fish. Not great but interesting. The final trip I need to update on is one on the 48’ Viking with Capt. Mark DeBlasio with an open boat charter. Leaving the dock around noon on Monday July 12 they headed to the Toms Canyon to spread out the fleet and look around. They found some fish and had 4 nice yellowfin in the boat by dark. The night bite was dead again. In the morning the Toms was also dead so they put it on the troll to the north and worked up to the Hudson. They picked away again and put 3 more yellowfin in the boat. It was getting late and Capt. Mark wanted to look around inshore for Bluefin so they headed towards the Chicken and as soon as they found whales they put out the lines. That only lasted 10 minutes when they had a triple header on 57-58 inch Bluefin. They put one in the boat and dropped the others for a solid trip with 8 nice tuna from 50 to 100 pounds.

Capt. Mark DeBlasio took the Todd Kingsbury charter out to the Toms Canyon Sunday to Monday and enjoyed our second blue marlin in just 4 days. Trolling the afternoon bite Capt. Mark with Capt. Deanne Lambros and Ryan DiBagio in the cockpit picked away at 3 yellowfin on the west side with the tuna coming in a single and double bite and missing a few others. The water looked good so out went two big lures for a marlin or a big-eye – and one was found. Eating a 14 inch purple jet a 105 inch blue marlin put on a show for the group before being brought boat side for pictures, measurements and release. She swam away fine. The night bite saw a tiger shark and not much else. The morning troll saw another single yellowfin and a quad so the group ended up with 9 nice yellowfin a 400 pound blue marlin. Nice Job Boys!!! Adam LaRosa reports:
Capt. Mark DeBlasio had a couple trips in the middle of the week on the 48 Viking and continued to beat up on the tuna. Fishing Tuesday-Wednesday with the Kevin McDermott charter from Pt. Pleasant, NJ/London, England we saw our only tough trip of the week. But in the end, this trip among all others saw the crew work harder. The made it to the Hudson around 4pm and spent the afternoon looking but not catching. The night was spent the same way with only a small mako swimming up to the boat but not taking a bait. The morning troll was also looking slow as they just couldn’t buy a bite. Finlly Capt. Mark and crew decided to leave the fleet that was picking away and go find their own fish. They did – stretching the trip out a few more hours they find their own school and picked away going 8 for 12 on nice yellowfin and salvaging the trip and making for a very happy charter. Doing a later turn around trip leaving the dock at 8pm with the Anthony Bevaqua charter on Wednesday Capt. Mark DeBlasio tried to hang a nice mako by stopping short of the canyon. That did not work as they only released a few blue sharks but did not see any makos. Up on the troll in the morning fishing down the line from the Hudson they found a really good bite. They quickly nailed a double of longfin and a triple of yellowfin and were sitting on five fish during a short lull in the action. That didn’t last long as at 9am a big-eye exploded on a blue/white Ilander ballyhoo combo down the middle and the battle was on. 2 long hours later they had the 69 inch – 202 pound big-eye in the boat. They didn’t stop there as the pick continued into the afternoon with the charter nailing another 9 yellowfin. The yellowfin are eating rainbow Canyon Runner Squid and Green Machine bars and lots of ballyhoo. Most of the bites are in 500-800 feet of water. Guys - the fishing just doesn't get better. If you are sitting at the dock - go! If you are waiting to book a charter - book it now - with anyone - doesn't have to be us just go and don't wait any longer. As the last two years showed us while we had great fishing in June and July the last 3 years it slowed up in August and September so it could happened again.

Maybe Wednesday’s day troll on our 60’ Ritchie Howell tops the trips for the week – or maybe not – it depends if you like marlin fishing. With the Pete Guaditis charter on the boat, Capt. Phil Dulanie, Capt. Mike Zajac and Capt. Hook headed to the Hudson Canyon for a one-day trolling trip. Arriving on the west wall around 5am they started in on a slow pick of yellowfin putting 5 in the boat by 7am and 14 in the boat by 9am. With the charter more than happy with that many tuna they released another for a total of 15 and then put out some bigger lures Capt. Hook brought back from his 8 years in Kauai, Hawaii – it worked. Within minutes of having out some of the bigger lures an abalone shelled kona head got popped from the rigger but no one saw the bite. Mike reeled in that lure to check it out and as soon as it was even with the long flat a big blue piled on the green streaker and it was game on. Pete Guaditis fought her on a Penn International 50 and custom Canyon Runner rod from beginning to end and 1.5 hours into the battle she was along side the boat for pictures. Tossing the hook we removed from the mouth over her tail to get a measurement off the leader she taped out to 126 inches – not a bad fish – and Pete’s first ever so he went swimming back at the dock. Congratulations!!!

In a game of one up manship the boys on our 48’ Viking outgunned our 60’ Ritchie Howell on Monday-Tuesday by 2 fish. Capt. Mark Jankowski, Capt. Deane Lambros and Ryan DiBaggio, fishing with an open boat charter, left Pt. Pleasant for the Hudson Canyon and arrived at 10am right into a pod of yellowfin. The first lines in the water barely got wet and it was game on. Fishing the west wall all afternoon was non-stop action and they finished up with 22 yellowfin on the afternoon troll. All the fish are 40-60 pounds and trolling a 4 spreader bar pattern with mostly ballyhoo making up the rest of the 13 rod spread they had bites on everything. They moved over to the east wall towards dark to look for a big-eye but did not catch there at dusk or dawn – the night bite was non-existant. On the morning troll they went into release mode and released another 11 yellwofin, tagging most of them for the scientists. They did have a big-eye on for a short time hooked on the west well but eventually pulled it off. Pictures of this trip will follow once I get them off that camera.

Canyon Runner - We've Had Better - But Not Often - 31 for 34 - 40-70# Yellowfin On Monday Capt. Paul Dalik, Capt. Mike Zajac and Capt. Hook took the Mark Reber charter out on the 60’ Ritchie Howell and basically caught yellowfin from the time they showed up in the Hudson Canyon to the time they left. It's not the best fishing we've every seen but it ain't bad. Arriving in the afternoon on an overnighter they set up on the troll on the west wall and had fish on immediately. They worked double, triples, quads and much much more as the fish were destroying our Canyon Runner Rainbow Squid and Green Machine bars and eating every ballyhoo we put in the water. They ended the afternoon troll with 15 yellowfin in the box and already into release mode as the charter had all they wanted to eat. The night bite was non-existant and that was fine with them as they needed the rest. As soon as they put the rods out on the troll in the morning it was game on again and they spend from 4:30am to 9am releasing 50-70 pound yellowfin as it seemed a bigger class of fish were around in the morning. The boys were actually running away from the yellowfin looking for a marlin or big-eye but couldn’t shake off the hungry schools of yellowfin tuna. The came home with the 15 in the box and another 16 released with most of those released with tags.

Adam LaRosa reports:
Well it was about to happen anytime and Sunday was about that time. I’ve said for years – even wrote articles about it several times – don’t fish the calendar, fish the water. Well, the water’s been here for a month now. And with the water here we’ve been having very nice trips on everyone but one of the 20 canyon trips we’ve run so far since June 11. In fact, we’ve been catching between 6-12 yellowfin a trip all between 40-60 pounds – not to mention big-eye, makos, marlin and mahi. These are results on trips that we would have begged for last August-October. Well, now it’s really really good. Capt. Phil Dulanie, Capt. Mike Zajac and Capt. Hook left the dock at 9am with the 60' Ritchie Howell Canyon Runner on Sunday with the Steve McManiman charter. There was a very nice bite in the Hudson Saturday on the West Wall so we headed in that direction. We put the lines in the water right a Noon – by 4pm we were done. 27 for 28 on 51 to 59 pound yellowfin (they weighed the biggest and smallest – the rest of the fish feel right in between). Obviously with 4 hours of trolling catching 27 fish they were hitting everything. Our pattern included 4 Canyon Runner Spreader Bars and the rest of the rods were ballyhoo. The hoos did produce best though. We had basically constant action with doubles, triples, and quads the rule – the charter did great on the rods and the only fish “lost” was actually on the leader and an official release but we were trying to catch it. We boated a total of 21 and release 3 and tagged another 3 with special tags we’ve been given by NMFS. With the wind starting to howl at 20 knots and two of the charter a little under the weather they decided to pack it up and were back at the dock less then 10 hours from breaking the inlet. To top this – our 2 boats are out there again and in the afternoon troll today on Monday they had 33 yellowfin by 6pm.

It only makes sense that US Warriors dominate one of the ultimate warriors of the sea – and that’s what happened on Saturday. Capt. Mark DeBlasio, Capt. Deanne Lambros and Ryan DiBaggio took 6 real Heros – US Veterans (3 Marines, 1 Army and 2 Navy) – out on our annual July 4th FREE military trip leaving on July 3rd and returning on the 4th of July. This is the third year in a row the Canyon Runner has honored our Nation’s Veterans the best way we can think of by taking them to the canyon. Not only that but Vinnie Raguso (Sportfishingusa on most web forums) donated a great barbeque meal and Andrew Joyce took care of the drinks. We left the dock at Noon on Saturday and headed to the Lindenchol as we heard of some great trolling action down that way. We got there at 4pm and didn’t see much going on at the edge so we trolled out to the warm water only to have the yellowfin come up inshore on the bank. By the time we got in there we only pulled a couple yellowfin out of the bite before night fall. That said – the night was possibly one of the most eventful in a while. Drifting the deep we had no less then 4 makos to the boat with 3 of them over 200 pounds. All 3 of those makos were leadered and one was killed – right around 200 pounds. Of the 3 one was also right at 200 and the other was around 250. We usually don’t see 3 over 200 in a year – amazing to see 3 in one night. I think fate had something to do with that as the soilders on the boat had a great time battling these beasts. Up on the troll in the morning we nailed a nice white marlin and 20 pound mahi to finish up a 4 flag trip (5 including Old Glory). I just want to personally thank the 6 great men that we took out – “Sirs - You the Man!!!” Ryan Schall – Navy Dave Wessner - Marines Scott Alpaugh – Army Pete Proietto – Marines Laurance Harris – Marines Paul Gregeitis - Navy

Canyon Runner 7/2-3 – 6 Yellowfin and 1 Mako Capt. Mark DeBlasio and Capt. Hook with Ryan DiBaggio as the mate took the Greg Pennington charter out Friday to Saturday and found some yellowfin were we didn’t think they lived anymore. Heading to the Hudson as there was a decent bite in the square on Thursday that were 10 west of the west wall and heard not a tuna was caught all day. So at Noon they dropped them in there and trolled into the canyon. They fished the bombs to the tip and back and forth for the whole trip without moving any further down the line as they were picking away all afternoon. They caught fish on Canyon Runner spreader bars and way back ballyhoo Joe Shute combos and had 10 bites in all bringing 6 nice yellowfin in the 50 pound class to the boat. The night bite saw a couple mako bites with a small one released and a large one pulled off. Canyon Runner 7/1-2 – 1 Bluefin 90 Pounds 5 Yellowfin Capt. Phil Dulaine, Capt. Mike Zajac and Capt. Deanne Lambros took the Paul Pedretti family – including 20 year old daughter Kara out on Thursday to Friday on the 60’ Ritchie Howell and had a nice early season trip. Reaching the Chicken Canyon early in the morning they trolled for 30 minutes and nailed a nice 53 inch Bluefin on a Canyon Runner Mini-Mamba Spreader Bar. They then headed towards the southwest corner of the Hudson but inshore of the west wall they had all the life they could hope for so they put out the lines. Within minutes they had 2 yellowfin in the boat. No bites for a while had them pick up the lines and run down the corner. A few hours there saw 3 more yellowfin boated. Most of the yellowfin ate Canyon Runner Rainbow Bars and ballyhoo. The night bite was non-existent and the morning bite on the troll was dead. They left in the morning while only adding a mahi on the troll. Picture is both the Greg Pennington and Paul Pedretti charters including Kara Pedretti who caught her first yellowfin. Capt. Mark DeBlasio and Capt. Hook took the Carl Bloomfield charter out for an overnighter Wednesday to Thursday. Without a temperature shot it was a guessing game as to where the water might be on the edge. Capt. Mark headed to the Carteret to be in the middle of the canyons as I waited for updated cloudless temperature shots that never came as the cloud cover lasted all day Wednesday. Hitting the Carteret he headed south and had no life. He did finally nail a couple nice mahi and had some white marlin up in the pattern missing one and releasing one. At night they set up near the Lindenchol Canyon in 600 feet of water and had an eventful night. The first mako came around mid-night and fought hard only to succumb to the harpoon. He was 76 inches and close to 165-170 pounds. Shortly thereafter another mako of almost the same size put on a spectacular show jumping 4 times the last only in the cockpit. He two was captured but released unharmed. Up on the troll in the morning things got even better with the crew finally finding the yellowfin. There first shot came around 6am with a 3 bagger and then around 8am with a 5 baggger. The tuna ate Canyon Runner Mini-Mamba Spreader Bars, Canyon Runner Mini-Green Machine Spreader Bars and just good ole fashion ballyhoo. In addition to that action they had two Wahoo bite offs. Guys - we might have an opening this week on the 60' Ritchie Howell for Wednesday - Thursday. We are going to offer a high-end open boat trip avaialble only to 4 guys for the whole boat. Cost is $1,500 per spot (that includes the tip) but we'll take care of everything for you including grilling up dinner and drinks. Call me at 732-272-4445 if interested.

Sorry for the late report but I missed this one last week. On Sunday, June 20 Capt. Mark DeBlasio took an open boat charter out to the Hudson Canyon on our 48’ Canyon Runner and found a nice solid pick of yellowfin. The afternoon troll found 7 yellowfin boated among 11 bites. They set up at night for sharks but to no avail. Up on the troll in the morning the yellowfin bite slowed so they picked at 10 nice tilefish on the West Wall. The charter wanted one more shot at tuna so they ran inshore and nailed a nice 50 pound Bluefin and missed one other before coming home. The yellowfin were all nice fish in the 40-50 pound class.

Adam LaRosa reports:
With 10 canyon trips already under our belts this June we are starting to get well dialed in to what is going on offshore. On Monday-Tuesday of this week we were able to take advantage of a bunch of patterns quickly developing and put another solid catch together for out charters. On the 48 “Canyon Runner” Capts. Mark Jankowski and Hook Leconey with mate Ryan DiBaggio in the pit put an open boat trip (we now run at least one open boat trip a week but all are booked up well in advance so if anyone is interested in one of these please call or email now as the first available are not until later July). Leaving Manasquan Inlet at 3:30pm as they just got back from the canyon earlier that day, they knew they wouldn’t have time to make the edge to troll so they stopped in the eastern end of the Mud Hole as soon as they saw signs of life and quickly boated a nice 80 pound Bluefin. With all that life there they decided to shark for the night and had a ton of action with blue sharks, browns and duskys but no makos. Around 2am they steamed off to the Hudson Canyon to make it by day break as Capt. DeBlasio had marked big-eyes there the day before and they wanted to see if they would be on the feed. They were. At around 5am they hooked up on a Canyon Runner Rainbow Mini-Green Machine Bar (by far our favorite color combo for big-eyes the last 4 years). They were on a Penn International 50VSW and made quick work of the fish with Ryan DiBaggio sinking the harpoon less than an hour after hook up. The fish was a skinny 71 inch fish and weighed in a t 214 back at the dock. They continued to work the area for hours as they constantly marked fish – plus the boat next to them hooked a double header and caught both (congratulations guys!!!). However, no more bites were coming. They also found the yellowfin caught there Sunday-Monday had moved so they decided to go tile fishing. The bottom bite was solid with a dozen nice fish in an hour. With weary arms they choose to run inshore on the way home to try once more for Mr. Mako but struck out on them while catching a few more blue sharks and missing a thresher. On the 60’ Ritchie Howell “Canyon Runner”, Capts. Mike Zajac, Joe Miele, Deanne Lambros had the Joe Terranova charter out Monday-Tuesday and had an early departure getting them to the Hudson Canyon before Noon. They immediately had a nice 50 pound yellowfin in the boat and quickly thereafter boated a second. 6 more hours of the afternoon troll produced nothing so a vote was taken to really target makos and back inshore to the 40 fathom line they ran. Good choice. Their night was spent with 20 blue sharks released and a nice 170 pound mako dead in the boat. Up on the troll in the morning into the Chicken Canyon area they boated a nice Bluefin very early in the day but spent the rest of it looking at pods of Bluefin all over the surface but they couldn’t get them to bite again. They ran home at 10am so perhaps if they stayed longer they might have caught a few more. I HAVE PICS OF THE BIG-EYE AND MAKO WHICH I WILL POST LATER TODAY WHEN I GET THEM OFF THE BOAT

Capt. Mark DeBlasio, Capt. Hook, and Capt. Mark Jankowski took the 48’ Canyon Runner out with the Jack Gamill charter leaving the dock at 6pm Friday afternoon and running right to the edge. However, on their way out they saw tons of life in the Chicken Canyon area and made a note incase the canyons didn’t produce. They set up on the edge on the west wall in 650 feet on the drift and planned on sharking for the evening – until the deep sword rod went off and the fight with the gladiator of the deep was on. Unfortunatley, this time the sword won. With the Lindgren-Pitman disco light in sight the sword pulled off. The rest of the night was uneventful. Up on the troll in the morning they started a slow pick of fish in and around the west wall of the Hudson. Most of the bites cam in 550-750 feet of water. The favorite Canyon Runner spreader bar was a modified Mini-Mamba bar with a ballyhoo as the hook bite instead of the lure. We also had fish on Ilander/Ballyhoo combos. The yellowfin came in bites of 1 for 4 and 3 for 5 and they ended up with 4 yellowfin up to 50 pounds. They stopped for a while to tile fish and in an hour caught 12-15 up to 12 pounds. They then took a shot inshore to look around where they had life the day before. A few miles short in the area of the Chicken they had Bluefin rocketing out of the water and the first bait out was engulfed by a 55 inch Bluefin. A few minutes more on the troll and they went 1 for 4 on 40 pound Bluefin and called it a day. Capt. Paul Dalik, Capt. Mike Zajac and Capt. Deanne Lambros had the Dave Patrick charter out on the 60’ Ritchie Howell “Canyon Runner” and also had to leave at 6pm. They made the Toms Canyons before dark and set up a slick – and drifted no where in slick calm seas. They did though have a professional chef on the boat who fired up the cockpit grill and made “one of the best meals we’ve ever had on a boat”. Ribs, tuna tacos, quessidillas, steak etc. etc. was flying all over the cockpit as a few blue sharks were released at night. Up on the morning troll they worked the canyons both walls and started to pick away at 40-50 pound yellowfin. The bites came mostly in single with the day seeing the crew go 4 for 8 on yellowfin with once again Canyon Runner Squid and Green Machine Bars and single ballyhoo accounting for everything. Canyon Runner Yellowfin 6/17-18 - 12 for 20 – 35-50 Pounds – Pics Capt. Phil Dulanie took the 60’ Ritchie Howell out on Thursday with the Damien Romeo charter from Forked River, NJ and Capt. Mark DeBlasio took the 48’ Viking with the Peter Schoels charter from Weekawkin, NJ. With the success the day before down south off they went again for a 130 mile ride to the Poormans area. They started north and each boat picked a couple yellowfin in the afternoon troll. Both set up for sharking on the drift with the 60’ Ritchie on the back in 100 fathoms by the Poormans and the 48’ inshore of the tip. Both boats had various species of sharks throughout the night including tigers, duskys, blues and the 60’ lost a 125 pound mako at the boat when the hook fell out. Up on the troll in the morning the action was slightly better with 4 fish taken on each boat. Almost all the bites came in singles so it spread out the action but limited the quantity as we just couldn’t load up the rides. Our Canyon Runner Spreader Bars caught the most to the point where both boats had out 5 and 6 bars respectively. Mini-Green Machine Bars and 9” Purple/Black Squid Bars produced best. The fish were loaded with 9” squid. All the yellowfin were between 35 and 50 pounds. Nice fish on the troll.

Hitting the Baltimore Canyon he found 68 degree water and more bait then he’s read in years. He also found some fish. The first shot was 2 for 4 on 35-40 pound yellowfin. He worked that area for a while to no avail and trolled further south down the edge with no other luck. The night bite saw a bunch of blue sharks but I think we overran the makos. The morning, now down by the Poormans, saw the guys go 3 for 6 on 35-40 pounders before 6am and then 3 for 6 on 45-50 pounders are 10am. They had a couple other shots that didn’t come tight and had to leave early to start working their way up the bank again to shortern the ride home. At one point they were 135 miles from the inlet. The bites came on Canyon Runner mini-rainbow Green Machine bars and ballyhoo. Let it not be said that we won’t run to where we have to put our charters on fish!!! I just hope they move a little closer – please! The boys are supposed to get me pictures tonight - if they do I'll post tonight.
