Bait or Lure: Bucktail w/pworm or pink finess
Water Depth: unknown
Water Temp.: 70's
Information : Arrived at Island beach State Park on friday night and fished
the north Jetty in Barnegat Inlet. I think that it is a lot better than the
crowded Barnegat light house on the south jetty! Arrived at 6:00pm had
nonstop weakfishing action near the tip of the Jetty. Most fish were 16-20
inches. Fished low tide at about 1:30am and hooked up a nice 30 inch weak on
a Bucktail with purple worm. Next morning had a nice pick on 16-22 inchers
until blues came in. Try the north Jetty it is alot less crowded!

Fishing Method: troll
Specie: Dolphin
Size: 15 lbs.
Bait or Lure: cedar plug
Water Depth: 90
Water Temp.: 78
Information : Mahi saved the day as none of the ussual lures produced tuna.
I never would have guessed dolphin would take a natural cedar plug flat lined
within 12 ft. of the transon-but they do! One was a 15 lb. brut that did 3
jumps as high as 5 ft. Only other action was skippys on a 3 inch green/yellow
jet. Nothing on green machine, red/white feathers, spreader bars, etc. An
easy way to flat line is bend a rubber band over the line and attach both ends
to your rear kleet. When you get a hit the ruber band breaks. Lighten the
drag, as there is not a lot of line out to stretch and absorb the initial
shock. I've been broken off 2 times this year on 40 lb. test. See ya out
there!!!!!!

about 3/4 mile off of Bay Head, Lavalette, Seaside and Island Beach. Croakers
had the run of surf for bottom fishing. Most were between 1 1/2 and 2 lbs.
If you have light tackle they make for a fun hook. Towards the afternoon we
hit a few wrecks and had a great times with sea bass. The sea bass activity
was hot and heavy at times. All told my friend and I left with 23 croakers
and 21 sea bass. Not at bad day at all. Tight lines.

False Albacore busting all the way down to Sea bright
Bluefish were right on thier tails so it was hard to keep a fly in the water
without a trace of wire.Blues were 2-4lbs
and at times you had to shout to be heard over the sound of all the blues
busting the surface.
Switched over to Blues out of frustration and nailed them in a big way on
topwater flies with wire leaders.

Fishing Method: Chunking
Specie: Blue Marlin
Size: 10 pounds
Bait or Lure: Butterfish
Water Depth: 600'
Water Temp.: 79
Information : Captain Phil Dulanie had the Marty Keegan charter from Warwick,
NY out to the Hudson Canyon Saturday and put together yet another great
catch. Chunking in 600 feet of water the Canyon Runner had steady action
through the night with a few surprises. First off, most of the fish we
chunked were Longfin, 7 altoghether, while we have chunked a few Longfin in
the past normally at dusk or dawn, we never had steady action throughout the
night with them. In addition we boated 3 Yellowfin to 60 pounds and lost 5
others. The second surprise came when mate Mike Zajak from Pt. Pleasant, NJ
hooked what he thought was a Mahi Mahi. When Vince Albrecht reeled in the
fish it was a 10-pound "Marlin." It looked identical to a Blue Marlin except
for an extremely long bill. Once developed, the pictures of the "Marlin" will
appear on our web-site at www.canyonrunner.com for those interested. The
"Marlin" was released unharmed.

four yellowfin to 60 lbs and then the bite shut off. Picking up to troll, we
were NOT rewarded with much (as has been the case lately) except for one
lonely longfin. Couldn't raise another one (in 5 hours) even though we had
porpoise and bait all over the place. We pounded a couple of pots to catch
some small dolphin (to 10 lbs) but . . . chunking is still the ticket!

was a very pleasant surprise to see these fish up this far north.. Real tough
scrappers, they fight a lot like blackfish, i.e. bulldogging all the way, and
hit with the ferocity of a weakfish.. I must've caught upwards of 40 fish,
keeping an even dozen nice ones for dinner.. Also a few short fluke, taylor
blues, and robins.. After all that, my arms are sore!! Great day on the water...

Information : Finshed up the chores around the shore house and got out on the

weakfish and 4 fluke but had to put the fluke back as they were all 13-14
inches. Although I haven't fished as much as I wanted this year the action out
front has been slow for weakies and fluke until now. Hopefully this is the
beginning of a good late summer season for the weakies.
Also, as did the crew of Bulldog on 08/20, I made a run to the Cigar nad
trolled to the 28 mile wreck on 08/15. There were a few boats but the action
was slow - had one knockdown on a deep running yellow squid but I was on the

over the horizon the ocean came alive. Tons of baitfish, Mackeral & Squid
plus several large feeding Porpoise and dozens of feeding Yellowfin slashed
thru the water under our lights. The charter was actually throwing their hook
baits to the Tuna. By 3 PM we had approx. 37 hookups on Tuna with 24 fish in

Specie: Black Sea Bass
Size: 14 keepers from 11'' to 16''
Bait or Lure: clam
Water Depth: 60-85 ft
Water Temp.: 71
Information : Was out again on the paramount..had another pick of
sea bass..everyone seemed to have at least 6...and
high hook was about 16 or 17....a bunch of people e-mailed
me this week for info about the paramount..especially bored
fluke fisherman sick of shorts....the phone # is (732) 528-8377
it sails out of brielle..it fishes for sea bass...8 am -4pm..every day
except weds...when it goes to the mudhole for ling
fishing is a pick..but there are keepers to be had
a 15-25 lb conventional fluke rod is an ideal set=up
just bring plenty of 6 to 8 oz sinkers..and #4- 2/0 hooks
I have also had decent luck on the atlantic highlands boats
sailing for weakfish...going on afternoon half day
trips on the sea fox..and getting 4 to 8 keepers from 18-25''
fishing w/ worms...but drifting like you do for fluke
good luck everyone..hopefully spetember will bring
more and bigger fluke...better sea bass fishing..etc.

Size: up to 80 lbs.
Bait or Lure: Butterfish chunks
Water Depth: 600 ft.
Water Temp.: 78
Information : Capt. Paul Regula had his Bounty Hunter out of Clarks Landing
Marina, Pt. Pleasant, NJ out to the Hudson Canyon for an overnight Tuna
charter with the Mike Kolakowski party. Trolling the West wall from the Elbow
down to the 100 square produced a big zero. The entire area was covered with
green water. Anchoring for the night in the square in 78 degree water, 600
ft. deep and chunking, we waited until 10:30 PM for our first bite a small
Swordfish, which we released. By 11 PM we had our first Yellowfin. The bite
got intense and we had 1 to 3 Tuna on at all times for a solid 2 hrs. The
persistant 25 to 30 knot Southwest wind made for tough fishing in 6 to 8 ft.
seas. By 2 AM we had 36 hook ups on Tuna, 2l our legal limit in the fishboxes
and released 2 Sharks. We left at 2:30 AM for the ride home. It was a very
good start for our first Canyon venture of l999.

Water Temp.: 78
Information : Captain Phil Dulanie and Mate Brad Burgess snuck the Canyon
Runner out to the Carteret Canyon with the Steve Reily charter before the wind
begins to blow this weekend and were rewarded with an excellent offshore
catch. Trolling in the Carteret Canyon on the edge of the Blue and Green
bodies of water out on the edge, the charter fought and release 1 White
Marlin, boated a few Yellowfin to 50 pounds and dozens of dolphin. The action
however did not stop there. The first Blue Marlin of 500+ pounds showed up
around 1:00 p.m. and ate a Green Machine behind a bird. The fight lasted only
10 minutes however as the Blue Marlin won by jumping on the main line and
broking off. The Second Blue Marlin showed just as we entered the Green Water
and were about to pull the lines out ending the day. Burgess spotted the Big
Blue rising up to a Sea Witch/Ballyhoo combination, baited the Blue and
Dulanie gunned the engines setting the hook. The fight ensued this time for
30 minutes with the Canyon Runner winning as a Blue of about 300+ pounds was
leader, pictures taken and released. That makes for the 8th Marlin caught and
released by the Canyon Runner this year. Not bad for New Jersey.

vicious oyster cracker dominating the catch.. Moved outside to a lump off Sea

up off the bottom, but absolutely no fluke.. Called it quits about 12:30, w/ a

Also worked a pod of breaking fish off Bay Head, but didn't get any takers..
Could've been skippies, spanish macks, or albacore.. Did hear some reports of

really fun to fish for. they are a much better fighter than fluke and when you
think about it the ratio of keeper fluke is 1 out of 10 so you really don"t

Information : Another killer trip.
Left Brielle Saturday with the Ron Antonelli Fishing Team bound for the Hudson
Canyon for a chunk & troll.
Arrived to find some very green water. Trolled from The Bombs down the West
Wall. Following my Offshore Satellite Services temperature charts, I decided
to head for The Mouth and 100 Square to look for clearer blue water.
We found it and proceeded to work the area hard. The first decent bait I
found was around some pots so I just kept cruising them. Little by little the
bait came up, and following the bait were some decent marks on the sounder
which proceeded to follow.
We worked the area for a good 30 minutes when BAM, the two shortest flatlines
went off. I kept the boat at trolling speed and BAM, next two closest lines
went off, kept the boat moving and BAM, the two short riggers went off!
After one fish spit the hook real quick, we went Five for Five, all 100+ pound
Yellowfins! The plumpest and hardest fighting Yellowfins Ive ever seen. (and
the tastiest, too!) Ive never seen 5 fish of this size hit and all get landed
safely! A great charter crew who follows direction aided by a top-notch mate,
Danny Edmonds. Kudos to all!. We moved to the flats in the same area for our
overnight chunk and pulled in a couple of 80 pounders , a 60 pounder and one
35 pounder. We also caught and released a small Swordfish. Great job

Date Fished: 8-7-99
Location: l9 Fathom
Fishing Method: Trolling
Specie: Yellowfin Tuna
Size: 26.5lb
Bait or Lure: cedar plug
Water Depth: 112-120
Water Temp.: 78%
Information : Departed Mill Creek Marina, Cape May Harbor at 5:oo Am along
with the fleet. We were fishing the Breezy-Lee tournament limited to 50 miles
of the Cape May 2CM buouy.
This was fine as the Sea Tiger is only 23 ft with an ordinary fuel capacity of
115 gallon. We carried 16.5 gallon reserve which we later discovered wasn't
necessary.
Refueling with 15 knots at sea was an experience that my son Marc and
son-in-law Bill will never want to experience again.
We ran southj east about 33 miles at an avg of 18 or so knots. The south west
wind never materialized to a north west but shifted to north & east as wea
approched the lump. At 7:30 we had a hookup on cedar plug about 4 miles west
of the lump which was lost. At 8:30 and 9;30 were succesfule in boating the
two yellow fin. About an hour later a strkike on another rod literally ripped
the rod out of the outrigger and a line jam lost what had to be a nice fish.
This was a fun trip for an inexperienced captain & his crew.
The day proved fun & we ended up with second place in the tournament with the
two heaviest fish. First place went to May Kay with a 39 lb yellowfin. About
15 boats weighed in out of a field of 26 boats, but only two of us reported 2
fish.
