Information : Working hard everyday to put a catch together. Some very nice keepers coming in the past few trips....today started out with 2 fish at 18 and 16 pounds right off the bat! loads of readings, thought we were in....Bluefish took over so we moved...each drop had a couple fish, then bluefish..made 5 drops before we found a pile that wanted to bite....Had them going good till two boats thought I was a wagon train, kept going around me in 10 foot of water!! Thanks Guys, your lack of knowledge is not appreciated...Made one last drop in the bunker school, had 4 more very nice fish to finish out the day....Afternoons so far have been decent fishing, Friday was very good, Saturday the bite lasted about an hour and a half then nothing. Clams are impossible to come by the next few days..Huge swell in the Ocean has kept the guys at the dock..Once we use what we have in the freezer, I'll have to switch to Bunker for a Trip or two.....whatever it takes..........capt.ron

Boat Name: Sea Hunter
Date Fished: 04-29-06
Location: Raritan Bay
Fishing Method: Clamming
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: 39"s
Bait or Lure: Clam Bellies
Water Depth:
Water Temp.:
Information : Made 2 drops.
First drop was in the vicinity of the 11A buoy. Took a while for the fish to find us and even when they did it was slow. 3 bass were caught, 1 of which was a short as well as 3 bluefish. I didn't have my first bite until a hour into the first drop and I was caught totally off guard thus missing the strike.
Pulled anchor and circled around a bit looking for bait/marks. Finally anchored up to the northwest of our first drop. Action was somewhat better. I had another bite and hooked up solidly with a 30". After rebaiting with 2 fresh clam halves it didn't take long before I felt a few soft taps. I waited until I felt a little weight and drove the hook home. Fish pulled drag for a good 15-20 seconds all the while moving away from the boat. It then started to run up the side. I hooked up in the port/stern corner and fought the fish all the way up the rail finally bringing her to the net on the bow. Bass taped out at 39"s and weighed #23. Good enough for the pool. I had one other pick up afterward that I missed.
12 keeper bass for the boat (4 others besides mine over 17 pounds), 3 short bass released and perhaps 10-12 bluefish in the #4-7 class caught

Location: Barnegat Bay
Fishing Method:
Specie: Winter Flounder
Size: 18''
Bait or Lure: blood worms
Water Depth: 9'
Water Temp.: 50
Information : the most excitement we had all day was with the weather. The forcasted northwest 10-15 turned out to be a good 20+ out of the north, making the bay an interesting color of white caps and dirty water. Thus the fishing was poor except for one very large flounder and a handfull of smaller but legal size fish.It was a good day to tell stories and hope the next day would be better.

Date Fished: 04-09-06
Location: Western Raritan Bay
Fishing Method: Anchor/Chum
Specie: Winter Flounder
Size: Up to 16"s
Bait or Lure: Sandworms, Clam Strips
Water Depth: 8-10'
Water Temp.:
Information : Jason and I fished aboard the Misty Morn today along with 2 other fares. Captain and mate also fished for a total of 6 anglers. 9 flounder in total were boated with 7 of those being keepers. Fished the very far corner of the bay, actually it was more like the mouth of the Raritan River as we spent most of the day about 100 yards east of the railroad bridge. I had 1 keeper while missing my only 2 other bites. Jason as is his norm (especially on this boat as he always seems to win several pools a year on this boat) won the pool with a 16"er that was caught on the first drop within the first 10 minutes. Clam strips caught 6 out of the 9 flatties with sandworms acounting for the other 3.

Information : what a difference a week makes, we again launched at ship bottom and headed north against a stiff north wind and thought that we would get some shelter behind that same island as before but the wind was not the same and we were buffeted alot and in three hours my partner lost the only baits this day .not sure what took them but it took both worms off his WF rig. we then left to get some kind of shelter from the wind but again the tide was against us but we made it safely back behind the bridge and tried south and again came up with a blank might have had something to do with the low temps and the all day rain on saturday.oh well better days are ahead and maybe we had to pay for the trip the week before .the shame is that that is what I was compaining about before when they decided to restrict our WF fishery that with no bag limit that rare day you find a good concetration you could get a decent amount to make up for those days like my two out of three trips for WF in 06: 1st: 2 WF for 6 hours fishing /1 doz bloods 12$,6 qts chum 3$ each ,18$ /gas, rigs, etc $ . 2nd trip : one and a half doz bloods 19$ ,10 qts chum ,30$ ,gas, rigs, food, gas for truck, drinks,$ , this was the good trip we limited out in less than 3 hours and left them biting ,with no bag limit we might have gotten 10 or 15 more but on our next trip to the same spot we drew a blank and we spent just a much money as the week before and I know thats fishing but just how much sense does it make to come down on us recreational fishermen who they said were not taking more than 3 per cent of the quota ended up with a 2/3 loss of our season and a 10 fish bag while NY enjoys a 15 fish bag and a longer season is beyond me ,the same as allowing ANY fyke netting of those prespawn WF doesn"t seem to be too smart . how is that fair ? these laws are already affecting the tackle shops because of the new 10 fish bag limit I will never have a reason to buy more than a half dozen bloodworms on a trip and my fishing partner will only buy more if we plan to fish for stripers as well. that combined with the loss of our fall season is a major economic loss for a state that is already in dire straits. tony knight

Information : Thanks for the Trenton report Bernie M.I was wondering if they getting any up there yet. My freind has been fishing down at mays Landing the last couple of days and doing pretty good. I fished the point the last couple of days and had some success, but they were all shorts. Not that it matters much right now, but catching a keeper would have been nice. Then again catching fish is always good. Tight lines everyone.

Information : Today was a different story. Starting out in the sunshine, which lasted about twenty minutes until it got cold from the wind and rain,we caught four fish that had to be worked for. Moving three times trying different depths and bottom did nothing for us, only to wind up back at the same place we started.Just an off day,but I was happy to be fishing.I will stay with the flounder for at least another week.

Information : hid behind an island to get out of the wind and found a good concentration of WF ,we got our limit in only 3 hours .I think the key was to chum very heavy until the tide slowed then the bite went wild and we left them biting . I guess the new 10 fish bag limit saves us both time and money ,after all with a 10 fish bag limit we have no reason to ever buy more than a doz. bloodworms again.we doubled anchored and used two chum pots and pounded our sinkers often and our rigs all had either corn beads or grubs

Information : Read all the amazing reports about the flounder fishing in shark river that took place during last week. A few of us fished this past Saturday from about 10:30 to 14:30 and caught absolutley nothing. We kept an eye on the private and rental boats that were fishing in front of us and observed 1 herring come up the entire time we were fishing. Another disapointing trip sparked by the reliable fishing reports. Tonight the family will feasting on spagheti and clams and fish sticks compliments of a trip to Foodtown
