Boat Name: Sea Hunter
Date Fished: 4/29/03
Location: Sandy Hook ocean side
Fishing Method: bottom
Specie: Winter Flounder
Size: up to 2 pounds
Bait or Lure: clam
Water Depth: 20'
Water Temp.: cold
Information : I fished both trips on the Sea Hunter today. Fishing was a pick in the AM with most of the action on clams. We fished the ocean by the nude beach. The whole fleet was there. Captain Rob tried a few minor changes of position which got some extra fish on board. It was a sunny, warm, beautiful morning with no wind. I got 5 fish incuding one 2 pounder. This was a typical catch. I had hotdogs and beers and jumped back on for the PM trip. The weather turned with a brisk south wind cooling off the water and a strong current calling for more weight to hold bottom. Despite the conditions a pick started again with a nice flurry of action during the last hour of the trip. Again Captain Rob shifted the boat to increase the action. I wound up with 7 more fish which was typical again. On both trips skates ran about 20% of the catch and there were virtually no shorts. The fish were mostly nice sized and fat, a nice change from river fish. Captain Rob and Duffy did their usual great job! Duffy's filleting is a work of art. I'm going to enjoy the flounder dinners. I'll probably go out on a private boat this weekend for one last shot at the flounders. As Duffy said today "this is the beginning of the end" for spring flounder.

Water Temp.: 45 to 48

A couple were caught in the chocolate milk, well inside the bay and a couple were caught out at the shoal. Water still 45 to 48 degrees.

Specie: Tautog
Size: 14+
Bait or Lure: clam and greenies
Water Depth: 58+
Water Temp.: cold
Information : Went out on CR on Saturday. 30+ fares made the rail room nice for a beautiful day on the ocean. Talk about smooth as a bathtube! Made a few moves in and around 85 feet and had a decent pick of tog. More bites on clams then crab for me but a few guys (sidewinder from NY) really banged them with the crab. Me - I just can't get this tog thing down! Little white chin bastards were there as evident from the sharpie from NY, I missed atleast a dozen decent hits. I either swing too early or too late and kept comming up with no bait. Frigin toggin! @ keepers and 2 shorts. Well it was good to be out on the water after getting blown out last Sunday. Pool winner was about 7 pounds. Few nice keeper cod caught as well. Should bust open inshore within 2 weeks. Happy Easter!

Bait or Lure: Worms/Clam
Water Depth: 8 - 14

Information : Took the 07:30 hours trip on the Capt John's from Keyport, New Jersey. This is one great boat. I have not fished this boat recently as it was serving as a ferry since September 11, 2001. Fishing was rather slow, my buddy, Offshore Al and I each caught two keepers. One of the other anglers gave us his lone fish, so together we have enough dinner for four. As always, a great Captain and crew. All-in-all a first class act. I just wish that more New Jersey head boats were like the Captain John's. Nigel -------------------------------------- So Many Fish, So Little Time ><))))*>
