Fishing Method: SURF
Specie: Striped Bass
Size: 26"
Bait or Lure: CLAMS
Water Depth: ABOUT 5 FEET
Water Temp.: NOT SURE
Information : I caught the first one when the tide was coming in. I was talking to my
wife when suddenly, we realized that the rod was in the surf and out of the sand
spike. I ran into the surf, fortunately I managed to catch the rod while the fish was
pulling it away. My wife caught the second striper and gave the rod to a little boy
named Mario. He was with his father and was working very hard, baiting his own hook
and casting like there was no tomorrow, that we were rooting for him to catch a fish.
Just the look on his face while reeling in the fish and finally landing it, made our
day. Other bass of the same size were being caught by other anglers. It rained on us
but all in all it was a perfect day at the shore.

hot lure so far this year. Went over to the Verazano Bridge and got into them pretty
good for five minutes until we got booted off by the Coast Guard. Ran over to Hoffman
Island and casted around the structure there and picked up a nice fat 32" on eight

Boat Name: Norma K III
Date Fished: 04/09/02
Location: Off shore Pt Pleasant Beach
Fishing Method: Bottom
Specie: Tautog
Size: 3-10 pounds
Bait or Lure: Rock crab, green crab
Water Depth: Not sure, but not very deep
Water Temp.: around 46 degrees
Information : At 6:45 am we pulled into the parking lot of the Dauntless only to find
out they the party boat was in N.Y. getting new engines. Therefore we jumped on the
Norma and set out for some Blackfish. The day was filled with huge swells and the
morning drops produced only about ten blackfish for the entire boat. By noon i had
only one and it was about three pounds. By afternoon i discovered a bait that worked
like a champ. The rock crabs were molting and their soft shells were exactly what the
fish wanted. Myself and my friend switched and then went on a tear. Caught about
seven keepers in one hour, and pretty soon everyone on the boat followed suit.
Overall we brought home a dozen good size Blackfish and their were lots of big fish
caught. It could have been more action, but nobody argued the size of the catch.
Caught a tiny seabass-THEY ARE COMING SOON! Hats off to the crew for a good first
trip aboard.

Water Depth: 15

Information : I went to the inlet and tried jigging for shad but had no luck. The
fish were there but I just did not get them. If anyone is really good at catching
them I would like to hear from them and possibly get a few tips. I have been using a
store bought rig with about 5 hooks and I put a sinker or small diamond jig on the
end for weight. I then cast it out and jig two or three times and then reel in a bit
and repeat the procedure and jig again. I watched the other guys who were catching
some fish and thats what they seemed to be doing. Any help would be appreciated. I
would like to catch some for fun and bait.
Thanks
